Maray is an ambassador's daughter who has recently been displaced due to her father's work. Stuck in this new city of Vienna, Austria, she decides it's time to get to know her surroundings. Little did she realize it would lead to the adventure of a lifetime.
When Jemin saves Maray from a Yutu attack, he mistakes her for someone he used to love an respect. It isn't until he takes her back to his world that he discovers she isn't who he thought she was, and now he needs to protect her from those who would use her for their own devices or kill her for existing.
Over the time they spend together, they discover where Maray fits in the royal court and what she means to the people of the Austria of this parallel world. They discover a conspiracy of epic proportions and secrets that none of them could have believed. And throughout their adventure, Jemin and Maray find solace in each other and an attraction neither had planned. As they fight their way through the darkness that threatens both of their worlds, they find allies in unlikely places and hope in the strength or their friendships.
The worlds this author has built are intricate and beautiful even as their dark underbellies are revealed. The characters are vivid and colorful and intertwined in ways that are unique and exquisite. There is a sweetness in Maray's naïveté along with a resilience in her willingness to learn and become what she was meant to become. And Jemin is the perfect protector and friend, one who holds a power of his own and becomes a steadiness in Maray's life that she needs. The secondary characters are just as dazzling and distinct, and they each hold a special place within the story.
It is bright and intelligent, and it's a story readers of any age can enjoy. The worlds are complex and beautiful and filled with profound messages throughout. It was absolutely sensational, and I can't wait to see what comes next for these characters. Such a wonderfully written adventure.

This just bored me. I wanted to finish it but the characters were just so blah and the storyline moved so slowly because of the forced instant love connection between characters that was attempted to be subtle yet it was stuffed into every page. WE GET IT.. they're horny teenagers who are attractive. Got about halfway through and gave up

I enjoyed this book immensely! The world building was great but my favorite was the character development. I'm so invested in these characters and how things will unfold for them. They were rich and engrossing! I read a lot and sometimes find it hard to find something that pulls emotions out of me but this book did! I'm really looking forward to the next installment!

After posting on Instagram about an opportunity to review her upcoming novel, I OBVIOUSLY jumped at the opportunity. A fantasy and multiple world exploration novel? What's NOT to love about that plot. After receiving my copy a few weeks ago, I finally got around to reading it ... and finished it in a day. Though I have a few woes to mention below, I think this is a great start to a VERY intriguing story.

The Pros
From the very first page, Steffort grabs your attentions as she pulls you into her magical creation. I honestly was SHOCKED with how fast I finished this book. There's just ... SOMETHING about Steffort's writing that COMPELS you do just read one more chapter ... until you realize you've finished it. The balance between enjoyable characters, an intriguing plot-line, the fascination of multiple worlds and a fast moving story help create this well-rounded YA fantasy novel that just KEEPS your attention until the last word.
The characters you are SUPPOSED to like are lovely, making this quite a treat for character oriented readers. Maray, our main heroine, is HILARIOUS. She's sarcastic, full of wit and faces dangers head-on even when she's terrified. I also appreciate how she simply just doesn't BELIEVE in the concept of another world right away ... it made her character much more relatable and authentic. Jemin, our main hero, is a bit of a downer but still manages to make me giggle with his quick responses. At the end of the day though, he's a genuine sweetheart. As for the rest of them, they're all so lovely. They all have their own unique personality traits and talents, making you enjoy each for different reasons. Steffort also succeeds at keeping the characters true to themselves through their behaviours, choices and traits.
Throughout the story, I kept thinking I have the plot pegged ... I was SO wrong. To be honest, there are a FEW things that you KNOW are going to happen ... but that's in every book in my opinion. But what BLEW me away was how Steffort kept having me guessing at what's to come. At the beginning of one chapter, I would think I had the WHOLE story figured out ... to realize I was wrong and began developing new theories. This was a lot of fun, since it seems rare nowadays to find a book where the plot isn't obvious.
The Woes
The writing style was sometimes odd and confusing. For the most part, Steffort's writing is wonderful. But there are a number of fight scenes that I found rather difficult to visualize or wrap my head around how EXACTLY it was happening. In addition, there are a few sections regarding the dialogue that felt oddly FORMAL but without the need to be. Phrases such as a teenager saying "I am sorry" rather than "I'm sorry", or using longer rather than short forms and "lingoes" that are more common to hear during mundane conversations felt out of place. It felt almost too scripted. This isn't ALL the time, but the times it does appear just felt awkward.
For the majority of the novel, everything felt too fast paced and linear. The story progression and plot just FLIES by, making it frustrating when you're actually intrigued by the characters and multiple worlds. It felt as though there were parts missing, such as Maray exploring more of the "other" world first and learning more about herself. The timing of the story is also INCREDIBLY short (I think a week or less), which doesn't give the characters much time to get to know one another and develop stronger relationships in a more realistic manner. If Steffort had timed everything out a bit longer and added some more "filler" content to provide room for character development and GRADUAL plot development, this wouldn't have felt as rushed.
Though this new world seems rather incredible, there's little world building elements to help expand on it. Personally, one of the best elements of a fantasy novel is the world building aspect; it's always fascinating to see how these magical and unique worlds differ from our own. In Two Worlds of Provenance, we're given a SMALL glimpse into this world. The basics are highlighted and seem spectacular, but the story doesn't divulge into it much more than "the facts" --- the settings are also pretty much limited to 4 or 5 locations, which includes both our world and the other dimension. There simply wasn't enough for me to get a full grasp of how wonderful this world truly is and how it functions.Note: This could ACTUALLY be seen as a PRO as well, for some people may not like the complexities of world building but still wish to read a fantasy novel.
Overall
Steffort's Two Worlds of Provenance is an enjoyable YA fantasy novel, providing readers with a number of interesting characters and a rather compelling story. Though the story feels too fast paced, the wonderfully crafted characters and writing style are reasons alone to give this series a go.

The Quick and Dirty: Girl finds parallel dimension where she is not only the heir to the throne but where her grandmother is the evil queen intent on keeping her power and bringing darkness to both worlds.
Maray is an ambassador's daughter who discovers that there is another world just beyond the mist in her town of Vienna, Austria. When she is saved from a Yutu (a wolf-bear type creature) by a border guard, he decides to take her back to the royal court because she is the spitting image of the queen regent. Jemin and Maray's relationship develops as he helps her navigate the palace and protects her from those who wish to harm her. Maray's true lineage is revealed and secrets are unearthed about the women in her family, the magic that runs through her veins, and what needs to be done save the two worlds from being overrun by the darkness.
This was a new to me author whose prose and story development I really enjoyed. The characters were compelling and I'm excited to see how Maray resolves the conflict with her grandmother in the end. My only qualm was that I was expecting the rescue of certain important character to be a bit more exciting but overall I thought it was an excellent read.

Opinions: Overall, I was impressed with Two Worlds of Provenance! It had a comfortable feel to it, in that it was the kind of book you'd buy at a bookstore, not a random freebie you found online. The plot and conflict was unique and captivating from the beginning (which was outstanding, I don't think I've ever read a better hooking sentence!) and the characters were reasonable and consistent. The first thing I look for when reading is the connection to the characters, which was almost instant in Two Worlds of Provenance; I was especially excited about the "military brat" status for I am also an expat. Steffort's skills in world-building were demonstrated throughout: Maray lives in the normal world which gives the book a "homey" feel but soon transports to another dimension full of creatures and magic. Steffort did a great job bringing the realms to life and transporting the readers into her world, which fills out the star rating to five out of five. The next time a friend asks what they should read, I will suggest Two Worlds of Provenance!
My Favourite Thing: The title does justice to the plot: Steffort's world-building was "out of this world." Both realms were creative, consistent, and engaging: the human world was comfortable and familiar to readers and the supernatural realm was unique, dynamic, and lively. Normally, the setting is "just the location," but in Two Worlds of Provenance, the setting is part of what makes the story so rich and meaningful.
My Least Favourite Thing: As a whole, Two Worlds of Provenance was fast-paced and intense. While this made for page-turning, late-night reads, there wasn't much difference between the rising-action and climax. Because the book is quite short, this element doesn't alter the rating I give it, but if the book were longer and continued at this pace, it would become bothersome and trite.

Welcome to Vienna..... the other one :-))
Two Worlds of Provenance by Angelina J. Steffort is an interesting urban fantasy book with a rather unexpected premise. The story revolves around Maray Johnson, an American ambassador’s daughter who has recently arrived in Vienna (Austria) due to her father’s work. Maray’s mother is out of the picture and thus she feels somehow disconnected in her new surroundings. Nevertheless, she decides to explore the neighbourhood and gets transfer to a different dimension, and a very different version of Vienna, calling Allinan.
Once there Jemin, who having mistaken her from someone else, just saved her from an attack in Maray’s Vienna, discovers that she is in fact is a stranger to his world. Maray’s life is danger in this parallel world and it falls upon Jemin to protect her. Together they fight against that threatens both worlds, while their “forced companionship” evolves into real friendship and attraction.
During their quest to save both world before the portal between them closed, Maray and Jemin discover not only the real conspirators but also some important secrets about Maray herself…
It is a clever story, a very nice world construction, the locations in Allinan are complex, with both beauty and dark elements. Maray’s Vienna plays a much smaller role in the story however is gut described. All characters are multidimensional and distinct from each other, each adding a very specific trait to the story. While the book targets primary YA readers, there is also a deeper meaning in the narrative that will also appeal to a more mature readership.
This book ends with a cliffhanger, but not worries the next chapter is just around the corner, I can’t wait to read what happens next…..

To be honest at first I didn't know quite what to expect from a book with such a title starting innocently with a lonely birthday celebration in today's Vienna. The main character isn't even quite aware of the world surrounding her, not to speak at home in it, so what could possibly be the meaning of the enigmatic title? But Angelina Steffort wouldn't be herself if this riddle wasn't solved promptly - only to be replaced by a new set of questions. The reader is taken on a fast-paced journey ridden with a sense of wonder, foreboding and the hints of complicated yet intense emotions to come. What if there might be more to everyday life than meets the eye, what if, just underneath the surface, a storm is brewing and can hardly be contained any longer? And how do you react when you realize that you're the one unwittingly holding the key that might literally save the world(s) or open the door to disaster? The story drags you into both worlds so deeply that once the book comes to an end, you're both relieved to be able to surface and take a gulp of fresh Viennese air and impatient to go back and follow the struggles, decisions and events that will shape the worlds for good or bad in the (I hope) volumes to come.

This book was a nice delve into a fantasy realm. It has everything you would want in a medieval book: a evil queen, a princess on the run coming into her own and of course knights. Add to this the magic aspect that the characters have and the storyline was very enjoyable. The writing was easy to read and follow and while the characters lacked a little depth upfront, that was due to some twists in the book and is remedied by the middle of the story. All in all I am looking forward to the second book in this series so I can find out where this story goes next

Wonderful YA fantasy romance!
Reading this book was a wonderful surprise. Angelina has created a beautiful world with amazing twists and turns. I love that it is fast paced book that dosen't drag. I love love love the FMC! She is strong and doesn't take any crap. The MC is just as great and I loved reading his journey. There is a cliff hanger, but it isnt to bad. I am patiently waiting for the next book!!

Brilliant young adult story of a girl who discovers a whole world she didn't know existed and certainly didn't know she was destined to be part of. Likeable characters especially heck and Jemin. A despicable villain who you want to get what they deserve. Got fans of fantasy young adult this one if definitely worth a try. Looking forward to book 2.

I I loved The Wings Trilogy, so I was excited to see what Angelina J. Steffort could come up with next. This book did NOT disappoint!! Lovable, relatable characters, and a storyline that drags you into the world of Allinan. I can't wait for book two!!!

Maray is an American girl living in Vienna with just her dad. Her mother abandoned them when she was young and they never got over it. When she stumbles upon a young man fighting a creature she’s never seen before, she saves his life. In return, he abducts her into another dimension straight out of a fantasy.
He has his reasons, Maray’s remarkable resemblance to the queen for one. But there are secrets in Maray’s family, secrets she isn’t quite prepared to learn.
What I loved:
Maray. She’s the kind of character one can root for. Smart. Capable. Funny. I love how much she challenges Jem. The writing style has an effortless quality that makes it an easy read. And the new world leaves you wanting more.
What was just okay:
It was hard to connect to the story in places and I think that’s because there are more than two POVs. Some modern language is used by the people in the fantasy dimension that it was a bit jarring.

An exciting opening to what promises to be a great series. With great character development and a fascinating world, it’s sure to delight young readers.

I havent read a fantasy novel this great in a while! Maray moves to Vienna with her father for his job but not all is as it seems. When she is taking a walk she encounters fog and out come two boys sword fighting in clothes that are not of this time. Maray embarks on a journey of truth. She finds out who she really is and why her mother left her all those years ago.
The slow rise of love between Maray and Jemin makes you want more for them. Jemin doesnt feel like he is worthy of royalty, so he fights with himself over his new found love for her.
Angelina created an amazing world and I cant wait to start the next book in the series!

The storyline is quite predictable, many moments were just flat out boring to me. Towards the end I was skimming the pages rather than reading and enjoying them because I wanted it to be over. Giving it two stars because I enjoyed two of the characters.

Mirror worlds and alternate realities are the setting for this fantastic fantasy novel by Angelina J. Steffort. Immerse yourself in a world that sits parallel to our own, yet is ruled over by a cruel leader, hellbent on destroying her own family for her continued reign. A great young adult read for 16+, this book will, without doubt, have you lost in its magic.
Two Worlds of Provenance follows 16-year-old Maray, an instantly likeable character, who believes that her mother abandoned her some years previous. However, on meeting the rude and irksome Jemin, she finds herself taken against her will to Allanin, a town running alongside her home of Vienna yet in a completely different dimension. The strength of this novel lies within Steffort’s well-explained plot line that slowly but surely develops - nothing is given away too quickly and yet there isn’t a period in the book where the reader finds themselves wanting. Instead, each chapter reveals a new twist, a shady character, a lie or a truth. Similar in construct to J.K. Rowling novels, Steffort has the reader slowly building up intrigue and questions through the initial half of the novel and then answers them in great detail at the same time as Maray deepens her understanding of Allanin politics and her true heritage. I did find the climax to the action as the book closed slightly underwhelming; the actual scene itself had a lot of potential but I just felt it was slightly short and resolved itself much more quickly than I perhaps would have liked. Nevertheless, the story leaves us on a happy cliffhanger; an initial reprieve from the darkness of the story line but with the reader suitably enticed for the sequel.
Steffort’s ability to create strong female leads has clearly shone through again: Maray is both vulnerable and headstrong, determined to forge her own path and make her own choices, and young readers will look up to the well-written heroine. In contrast, Jemin is initially dislikable and yet Steffort manages to weave her magic once more and take us on a journey as his character develops and changes in the perspective of the reader. There is of course, the more comical sidekick, and various villains that it seems Maray has little chance of beating, along with a fantastic helping of characters who aren’t quite what they seem. Other paranormal and mythical beings are incorporated into the other world of Allanin and much like other great fantasy writers before her, Steffort has developed fearsome and ferocious beasts that one can vividly picture and imagine haunting the citizens of the city.
This was my second dive into the world of Angelina and yet again, it did not disappoint. Steffort has the ability to whisk the reader away into another entirely-believable reality, and The Book Dragon is extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with her. A fully deserved four stars is awarded to Two Worlds of Provenance.

Very slow build clean romance, and plot given away too soon
16yo Maray gets a dagger for her bday - a family heirloom from the mother who abandoned her. While in Vienna she walks into another world and as mistaken for the queen (who hasn’t been seen in 20yrs but there are portraits), she is captured by a guard…aaaand her self-discovery and adventures to defeat immortal evil begin.
The plot had great potential but the whys and the hows weren’t fully explained and the main reveal was given away too soon. The whys and the hows were too sketchy for my taste aka I wanted a better explanation and didn’t get one - how did the villain get the idea for immortality, why no qualms about using a blood relative, why royal succession rules were not impacted at all, how & why & when did the MMC change his mind about the FMC (especially since this led to romance), how exactly would the villain’s evil world domination plan be even possible etc. Since the whys/hows were missing, that ate into character and plot development & failed to engage my emotions. As a result - I read it, but I didn’t enjoy it.
This is more a coming of age and discovering her powers story with a very slow enemies-to-lovers romance line added almost as an afterthought. The plot was given away mid-book and that’s what stopped me from turning the pages, tbh. From then on I skimmed to the end just to find out what happens but wasn’t really engaged with the plot or storytelling anymore. Sweet & naive 16yo FMC didn’t really show character progression and the point of MMC changing his mind about her (and his why) eluded me. A bit light on the plot as well - the whys of the villains and revolutionaries remained a mystery for me and I guess I like to know the whys behind the deeds above all. There was an emotional scene at the very end, but I felt the meandering to discover the evil and going to and fro between worlds was unnecessary.
The book is listed as scifi & dystopian, but it’s our real world in the present day vs the magical parallel dimension, so there is nothing dystopian in it (likely but imagined society evolution with great injustice). Neither is there future tech, BUT technically parallel universes strenuously qualify this as scifi.
I read the ebook when it was still titled Blood of Two Worlds, now it’s showing on Goodreads as Two Worlds of Provenance (and Blood of 2 Worlds as paperback & hardcover editions), so the author might have revamped it and done a new edition, no idea, confused.
Those who love YA portal fantasy with slow burn romance and epic-like (read: slow paced) plots might still like this one.

Decent police but Feels like story is missing parts
Possible spoilers….
I finished this book because the plot was interesting enough to keep me reading. However, I do feel this book could have benefited from more… story, description, world building, set up? I just felt that as you went along it was like the story skipped a head a couple pages. Best example of this was when Maray is talking with her dad and finally getting some answers about her family then all of a sudden Jemin is there when just in the previous chapter he had been back in the other dimension talking to another character not knowing where Maray had gone but needing to find her. Suddenly he is where she is with no explanation until a few pages later. In the meantime I’m like, “How the heck did you find her?!” Then he casually and quickly explains he tracked her by using this special crystal. This just created another question of how he got the crystal in the first place because we know from a couple chapters before it was last located back at the home of another character, Corey, and as far as us readers knew that is where it had stayed. Then, another few chapters later it reveals that he had taken it at some point in order to track Maray which you only learn by Corey finding some random note he left. I mean, really? It felt lazy and a lot like the author had written each scene separately in a random order then put them together without any thought to flow. Then, as the editor must have reviewed the story such plot holes and flow issues were pointed out but rather than writing out the missing plot points an explanation is randomly thrown in the middle of a chapter’s dialogue like, “Oh, and this is how so-and-so got to event/conclusion A” or “So-and-so did this because of (insert convenient but unexplained reason here).” Honestly, this book felt like it was still in rough draft mode. A fun outline for a story with the potential to be a really great book. It’s just not there yet in my opinion.

After reading Thorn, I decided to give this series a try as well. I was really captivated by the synopsis, being a huge Shadowhunter fan. However, while I was reading the book, I soon realised that it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The idea of a second dimension where magic and bad ass warriors are real is great, but the development of the story had some flaws in my opinion. First of all, the whole thing about Maray’s heritage was pretty obvious from the start. If the main character looks like the queen in a story like this one, of course they are related. Secondly, the characters are rather flat characters and not very well drawn out. I really missed the connection I usually have with some of the main characters in fantasy stories. Because of this, I also didn't care much if certain characters developed a romantic interest in each other or not, simply because I felt little connection to them. Even the whole other dimension feels rather superficial because you don’t get to know more about it and about how everything works there (from the court life to everyday business).
But overall, the story was a bit exciting at times, made sense and was not really boring, so that is why I am going for a score of 3 out of 5 stars.

After having moved to Austria with her Ambassador father, Maray's world is turned on it's head when she inadvertently sees two young men sword fighting while exploring. She is shocked to discover there is another world in a different dimension, one she is very much a part of. She had always been a normal teenager until she is brought into Allinan and discovers she is in fact the heir to the throne. Her parents had kept this from her to protect her and Maray soon learns that her mother did not abandon her, as she previously thought but had left to protect her. Her maternal grandmother, the reigning queen if Allanin, has unleashed an evil, in an attempt to rule over both diamentions and unite them into one world. Maray also discovers she has magic and the realisation that her grandmother would capture her to harvest her blood to become invincible. Maray, with the help of Jemin, Heck and Corey uncover the conspiracy and how her grandmother has become immortal, thanks to her mother's blood. As she slowly acknowledges the facts, paramount is to find her mother and free Allanin from her grandmother's tyranny. It's an enchanting tale, transporting one to a Medieval era, very reminiscent of Camelot. Highly entertaining and enjoyable

This book wastes no time getting down to business. Coming fresh off reading the first 5 shattered kingdom novels from the same author it took me time to adjust to the difference in the stories pacing. Overall I really enjoyed the story and characters once I adjusted my reading pace. This is a book I needed to read a little slower than normal as the story moves quickly and it is very easy to miss things if you aren't careful. Jemin is probably my favourite of the chatacters so far as i feel like he has the potential for the most growth. Heck is great too but if im being honest his name is not my favourite and found myself thinking that everytime I read it. I am trying my best to not post spoilers but I really enjoyed the concept of the 2 worlds and how thet are connected. I am hoping we will get even more descriptions of Allinan and what life is like for all of the characters there. I of course will be devouring the rest of the series as soon as possible!

First, I love the character names in this book. Maray happens upon Jemin one night, and everything that she thought she knew changes. She has lived a life built around secrecy and deceit. He has lived a life of devotion to the crown. It takes a little while for the story to develop, but all the pieces soon fall into place setting the stage for an intriguing, action-packed book. It's filled with royalty, duty, honor, revolution, family upheaval, and political opposition. And, attempting to right the wrongs of the past; maybe a little love along the way.

Maray Johnson blames her mother for abandoning her family, but her father has done his best to create a loving family life. When the girl accompanies him to a diplomatic posting in Vienna, she is displaced into the parallel world of Allinan. The plot is exciting but bogged down by an awkward adolescent romance storyline. The book evoked for me the classic by Frances Hodson Burnett. In both stories the young protagonist asks about the qualities that make a girl a princess. For Burnett it comes down to kindness and generosity while this author emphasizes bravery. For both, ultimately it is a question of moral principles. More young teen than young adult.

Separated from her dad, in a new magical land she needs to find her place, find those she can trust and find her way home.
This was a sweet, clean tale that struck me on the younger side of YA. The ride was quick, the violence was distant and once literally on the other side of the door. There was even a first kiss. (Awwww.) That cover is just amazing, as are all the covers in this series.

This one had me scratch my head a few times, it was a bit confusing. Or maybe reading it at 4am wasn't very smart 😅
Anyway, I liked the background, the idea of a parallel world interconnected with our own, and the dangers that it implies.
I liked Heck and Jem, the two young soldiers that did their best to protect someone they detested at first.
Maray was very calm through it all (I would have screamed my head off) and almost always kept her head.
The villain was maybe a bit cartoonish? I only got a couple of glimpses so I could be wrong. And again, it was 4am 😅
