I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

This sounded like an exciting premise with a whole cast of magical creatures and at the center a romance between a charismatic vampire and a woman with an unknown magical background. I enjoyed the story. Chiron and Lilah’s attraction was immediate and fast, but a mating in the magical world doesn’t need a whole lot of build to make it work. I also was intrigued by Lilah’s mysterious background, her magical origins and how it all tied into Chiron’s search for his master.

I laughed at Levet, the gargoyle sidekick, clueless antics and his bungling of the English language.

I think I’d have liked this more if I read the previous books and had more of a foundation instead of jumping in at book thirteen, but I did still have fun.

A triumphant return to this much loved series about Vampires and all the associated immortals they exist with. I wasn't exactly sure how Chiron and his previous actions would fit but happily my favourite Vampire King is magnanimous enough to admit to mistakes and give Chiron valuable information. Now Chiron is no fool but does agree to take Levet with his affinity for magic with him as he searches for someone who has been lost for a long time. However winding up in a hidden, magical hotel in the Everglades isn't exactly what Chiron had in mind but with a beautiful, mysterious owner named Lilah perhaps Chiron is exactly where he's meant to be ?
I love that I never quite know just what this authors imagination will dream up next and this crazy hotel was very unexpected. Chiron might be unsure about what Lilah is exactly due to the mysterious magic reverberating around but theres definitely something not quite right. Luckily there's always Levet to rely on but with brandy that needs drinking will Levet save the day this time ?
As much as I liked the lead couple for me it's Levet that steals every scene he is in. Chiron is so loyal and determined to rescue his imprisoned master Tarak but the author cleverly dangles supporting characters that mean already I'm longing for more. I'm reluctant to give away the plot involving Lilah but will say there's huge clues if you breathe in (hint) about exactly what magic is being used and this was fun, exciting and such a wonderful way to while away a few hours.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Chiron is a vampire who has made an empire of world wide casino hotels. When the possibility of his missing master has been found, Chiron follows the clues, with Levet’s help, to a small Everglade magical retreat where he meets the most memorizing young woman, Lilah. Chiron doesn’t know if he can trust Lilah or if she is responsible for his missing master.

Lilah has spent her entire life at the estate and dreams of traveling the world but breaks in her memories and a magical nanny convinces her time and time again to stay.

Mystery, mayhem and lots of sexy is just what this book reader wanted and got from Darkness Returns. She had me with Levet so all the rest just made for a magically fabulous read.

I received this ARC copy of Darkness Returns from Kensington Books - Lyrical Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Darkness Returns is set for publication April 16, 2019.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

This book had two strikes against it to begin with. 1) I don't normally jump into a series at #13. 2) I don't particularly care for the paranormal/fantasy genre. So, why am I get this book as an ARC and am actually reading it? I really like Alexandra Ivy and clicked before I realized this was a Paranormal and not a Romantic-Suspense. My bad. I'm reading it for a couple of reasons. April was a slow month and I figured I needed to shake up my normal reading taste and I like Alexandra Ivy. Once I got past all the prior history and different characters and demons interacting with each other and got to the mystery and romance of the story, I found I really liked it. I'm never going to be a Paranormal fan, but I do appreciate a good mystery and romance and Alexandra Ivy is a pro at writing that.

Chiron is a Rebel Vampire who has made a fortune in the human world with his world-wide chain of resorts and casinos. He has been on his own for centuries after the last vampire king banished him and his master, Tarak, mysteriously disappeared. Now, the new vampire king, Styx, has given him a scroll and a guide, the gargoyle, Levet (who sounds like Danny De Vito in my head) that could lead him to his master. It leads him to a demon hotel cloaked and deep in the Everglades, a mysterious paradise owned by a beautiful woman, Lilah.

Lilah has lived her whole life within the enchanted hotel grounds. Her parents were killed by a demon plague and she has few misty memories of them and her childhood. Running the hotel is her life until a very sexy vampire and an annoying gargoyle show up as guests, guests with a lot of questions about the history of the place and a penchant for snooping in places they shouldn't. Someone at the hotel is watching and doing their best to keep hidden that which Chiron seeks. As Chiron encounters the lovely Lilah and their desire for each other threatens the enchantment surrounding this place, he knows that Lilah is his future, if he has one.

After finishing When Darkness Ends I was really sorry to see an end to a series I have followed and enjoyed for years. So imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw Darkness Returns and realized there was more to come. Darkness Returns was a really enjoyable read from beginning to end. Chiron is a vampire that was banished by the former Anasso and whose master was imprisoned. After receiving a scroll from Styx, Chiron sets out to locate the prison that his master is being held. This leads Chiron and Levet to a hotel hidden with magic and owned by the lovely Lilah. I really enjoyed this one, nothing is what it seems and I loved the twist and turns. I loved how the author introduced new characters and I can't wait for Tarak's book.

The 'Guardians of Eternity' series has always been one of my absolute favorite reads. ' Darkness Returns' is the continuation of this series and lives up to my expectations.
In the beginning my two favorite characters begin the story (Styx and Viper) and of course our favorite gargoyle joins the cast of characters.
This story is about Chiron given a map to where his master has been imprisoned. He comes upon a hotel cloaked in a magical barrier. There he meets Lilah a beautiful young maiden who has magic all around her. With the help of Levett he searches for Tarak. The hotel hold many mysteries the reader comes to learn and who Lilah truly is.
Ms. Ivy has done it again with her Guardians and am excited to read the next installment.

Darkness Returns by Alexandra Ivy is book 13 in the Guardians of Eternity Series. This is the story of Chiron and Lilah. For me this was a standalone book since I haven't read the previous books yet.
Lilah has spent most of her life behind the enchanted walls of the hotel where she is at. Chiron is a vampire who master was taken a long time ago and while looking to get him back he has made a living in the human world. When he has clues of finding his master leads him to meet Lilah. But is she trust worthy? Attractions between the two are hot but there is mystery around Lilah.
Exciting Read.

Reading that the Guardians of Eternity series was coming back had me so excited. Darkness Returns was a great addition to a series that I absolutely loved. It was not my favorite though. It is still a good book in an amazing series.

Vampire Chiron enjoys spending his time running his numerous Dreamscapes Spas, Resorts, and Casinos. They've made him a very wealthy vampire. Chiron has had a good life for the most part. Even though centuries have passed he still carries the guilt over the loss of his master. After so many centuries Chiron is skeptical when the Anasso Styx approaches him with an ancient and spelled scroll that might hold the key to Tarak's whereabouts.

Owning a hotel that caters to the paranormal beings of the world keeps Lilah busy. With its magical barriers and spells it also keeps her protected and hidden from the world. Her ogress keeper Inga has kept her company for as long as she can remember. Her memory or lack there of is just a few of the problems that she doesn't notice or question until vampire guest Chiron starts asking questions that puts both of their lives in immediate danger.

In the previous Guardians of Eternity books readers knew what the big bad evil was. This is a new tale in an older series. Clearly the foes are going to be new. The lack of knowing where this was headed (other than a mated happily ever after) made it so it took me a bit to get into. The abrupt (not a cliffhanger) ending has me curious about the mental state of a certain vampire. A little searching has shown me that he will have the next book in the series. Crazed vampire promises for an entertaining read.

Of course the legendary hero Levet is on this journey. He's up to his usual.

It's been a hot minute since I read this series but I fell right back in with some familiar faces and a brand new story line. The author always brings a bit of a twist and this book read like one mystery after another just waiting to be solved.

Chiron the vampire has been in exile since his master betrayed the previous Anasso. He has made a name for himself in the human world but the supernatural folks are well aware of him as well. Given a pardon by Styxx, he heads out to find his master.

The story that unfolds is not even something you could guess. No spoilers here other than things are never as they seem. Lilah and her hotel are so unique but something is not right with the setting. So much magic flowing through her land.

Did I mention that Levet comes along by request of the king to help Chiron in his task? Yeah, great moments right there. Lots of little tidbits left out there hanging at the end of this one. I have a feeling there will be more good things to come with this story line.

He has existed outside the order of the Guardians and trusts no one but Chiron has created an empire of resorts and casinos. Using the peace offering given him by the new vampire king, he sets out on a quest to find and free his master, only he never expected to find a lush paradise owned by a mysterious and mesmerizing woman.

Chiron and Lilah are two very strong, alluring characters that easily compel readers to read their story which is full of some powerful electrical chemistry and scorching passions. The romance is on the sweet side but has a few obstacles that stand in the way Chiron’s mating which causes quite a bit of intense emotional turmoil especially since Chiron’s quest is reminding Lilah just what her life is missing.

This potent and exciting plot is full of suspense, action, romance and unexpected twists that grabs the readers by their imaginations and hold them hostage as the actions that take place in this fast paced plot promise to bring about some challenging events to come for the Guardian world. The author has brought back her creative and fascinating world full of vampires, shifters and magic and added some wonderful new elements and intriguing new plot that puts the future of the Guardians in the hands of one rebel vampire who must choose between loyalty and love. While the story concludes with a happy for now ending, it also provides an intriguing set up for the continuing story that is ensures readers have to know what will happen next. Oops, I didn’t mention that Levet is back and up to his usual – finding heaps of trouble and causing readers to LOL.

When I requested the book for review, I was not aware that it's book 13 in the series and I thought that was book 1 or something. I should have checked it on goodreads and I don't know why I didn't. I didn't have a huge problem at understanding what was going on, but I felt like some pieces were missing and that I would have enjoyed the story a lot more if I knew what was going on. There is obviously some story that led to our characters to where they are now and I would have liked to know more of it. To be fair, the author did a great job of explaining what was going on and why Chiron and his friends were there. The fault lies on my side and that's the reason why I didn't give a lower rating to the book. 4 stars is what I would have probably given to the book if I knew what was going on from the previous books. The reason why I didn't go for 5 stars is mostly because I was bugged by something we found out about Lilah's past when she got her memories back. I would have liked a little bit more exploration on the person she used to be and how she changed. Overall, the book was good and I will continue the series given the chance!

Chiron may be Vampire King but he's humble enough to know when he's made a mistake. With his newly acquired information he and the new sidekick, who was foisted onto him, Levet the Gargoyle, are going on a roadtrip, searching for the prison of Tarak. Tarak has been incarcerated for decades due to the machinations of the previous Vampire King and Chiron intends to put things right.

Led to a supernatural friendly hotel in the middle of nowhere, Florida, Chiron and Levet meet the lovely Lilash who has secrets buried deeper than even she knows. Oh, and her former Nanny is a bit of an Ogre with anger issues LOL!!

Lots of well written secondary characters although Levet does kinds steal the show! New magic sources are involved - which I did not see coming! Great read!

REVIEW: DARKNESS RETURNS is the thirteenth full-length instalment in Alexandra Ivy’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY paranormal romance series. This is hotelier and ancient vampire Chiron, and hotelier Lilah’s story line. DARKNESS RETURNS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: WHEN DARKNESS ENDS was originally intended to be the final book in the author’s Guardians of Eternity series but the storyline ended with a happily ever after –for now, so it was the end of that particular arc. Now it appears Ms. Ivy will be continuing to focus on her Guardians of Eternity with a new story line arc.

Told from several third person perspectives including Chiron and Lilah DARKNESS RETURNS follows ancient vampire Chiron as he is tasked by the Anasso Styx (King of the Vampires) to find the vampire Chiron once called Master and friend, a male whose whereabouts are currently unknown. When the reigning Anasso discovers an ancient scroll, Chiron and the gargoyle Levet are called in to help locate the key that will hopefully free Tarak, the missing male. Strong magic and a veiled resort brings Chiron face to face with his future-enter hotelier Lilah, an immortal woman of unknown origins, and the woman Chiron knows to be his mate. What ensues is the search for the key; the discovery of magic and secrets, and the potential fall-out as the truth is revealed.

DARKNESS RETURNS is a story of betrayal, secrets, lies and loss. Lilah is unaware of the true nature of her past, a past that has been wiped from her mind and her thoughts. Chiron knows his Master is still alive but our hero must battle between head and heart when freeing Tarak could place his mate in mortal danger.

Alexandra Ivy introduces a new species or two to her world of the supernatural, species I suspected early on in the story. Levet’s inaccurate use of words and euphemisms is priceless and fun; the return of Viper, Styx and Ulric lends connection, cohesion and familiarity to the current story line. The premise is captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters are colorful, dark, and dangerous. DARKNESS RETURNS ends on a cliff-hanger, you have been warned.

The Story in 4 Sentences or Less: Vampire Chiron has made a fortune off of his resorts and casinos in the human world but sine the betrayal and imprisonment of his master, Chiron hasn’t trusted anyone and lives on the fringes of vampire society. Then the new vampire king gives him a scroll that could free his master and that scroll leads him to a demon hotel run by a mysterious woman named Lilah. With no memories of her past, Lilah spends her time in her enchanted estate and even a powerful vampire like Chiron can’t figure out who or what she is, all he knows is that he’s drawn to her and that could be dangerous to him and to his master.

Like It? Hate it? Love it? Why? It’s been awhile since I’ve read Alexandra Ivy, and man have I missed her books! I need to catch up with this series but I do recognize a lot of the characters from her earlier books and it was like having a reunion with friends. Very deadly, dangerous, older than dirt in some cases friends.

And Levet. Oh Levet I love him so much! That interfering, charming, magically impaired gargoyle is up to his old tricks again and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. He really provides the humor needed to keep Darkness Returns from being too serious. Actually, Levet does that in any and all of Ivy’s books that he appears in.

As old as Chiron is he’s got a youthful sense of humor, he and Lilah had great chemistry and I enjoyed their flirty banter. Of course, being a Guardians of Eternity book there’s plenty of sexiness to go around but there’s also a genuine romance between the two characters that I enjoyed.

While this book is technically a paranormal romance, there’s a big question throughout most of the book: Who is Lilah? Some parts of the mystery I was able to puzzle out myself but there were a few things that caught me completely by surprise and that’s not common for me. Darkness Returns feels and reads like a brand new book in a series but at the same time it is loyal to the previous books and characters and of course longtime readers like me. The book also felt like Chiron and Layla’s story was interwoven with an even bigger plot which I’m all for. As long as Levet comes along for the ride because he is honestly one of my favorite characters ever.

Click It or Skip It? Click It. Whether you’re an old fan like me or a newbie looking for a great PNR read, Darkness Returns is what you’re looking for. I can’t wait for the next book.

Wooooohoooo!!! The Guardians of Eternity are back!!! I am so freaking happy!!!! After reading Cyn and Fallon's story, I thought it was the end and I was sad but lo and behold it wasn't and we now get more awesomeness from Ms. Ivy! Again, I cannot get enough of Levet! I absolutely adore that gargoyle, he is beyond funny, Lol. In this next excellent read we have vampire Chiron and his beautiful mate to be, a witch named Lilah. Unbeknownst to Lilah she has been under a spell for centuries and Chiron seems to be the one who can bring her out of it. But at what cost? Chiron is given a scroll that may lead to the place where his leader, Tarak has been imprisoned for the last five centuries! Yeesh!
We briefly get a glimpse of Styx and Viper (love them!) and Levet is tasked in helping Chiron track down where Tarak may be and that is where he finds his mate, in a hotel made to be under a magical spell. Filled with adventure, humor, action, a bit of suspense and a new tale being woven, we are introduced into more fantastic future reads about the Guardians of Eternity! The ending begs more attention and hopefully we get more Levet and Inga, the Ogress in the next book. I hope this series never ends! Love it to pieces!!!! 4.5 stars*****

P.S. We also have Ulric, second in command to Chiron and his very best friend who I found rather intriguing and hope this wolf get his HEA in upcoming books.

DARKNESS RETURNS (Guardians of Eternity Book #13) By Alexandra Ivy
I have followed this series since Alexandra Ivy started it. I was surprised when I found she had finally added another book, as it had been a long time. I am glad she did, this is an entertaining read. This is the 13th book in the series and it still seems as fresh as the 1st ones. You do not have to have read the previous books, but they would give you some background that would be helpful. Alexandra Ivy always creates a great world for her well developed characters no matter which genre she is writing about.
Levet the gargoyle, is back to torment Chiron the vampire and Ulric the werewolf. When Styxx the Anasso, discovers new information that leads him to believe Tarak is imprisoned and not dead, he calls for Chiron knowing he will go in search of him. The search leads him to the Everglades where he meets the hotel keeper named Lilah and knows he has found his mate at long last. Many things seem to be coming between them. This book has intrigue, drama, hilarity, great characters, a solid story line, and chemistry. I enjoyed this book enough to give it 5 stars.

A strange island hidden by magic... A search for a long time missing vampire, a full blooded were, a half-breed orgess and a beautiful woman... But what is she... The magic is so thick around the island that is where Chiron is hunting for the key to unlock and save his friend who has been held captive for 500 years. This was a great book and loved the mystery of the key and who doesn't love a bit of Levet?

Darkness Returns by Alexandra Ivy is another thrilling and compelling instalment in the Guardians of Eternity series.

Feeling overwhelming guilt for having a part in his master’s disappearance and imprisonment, Chiron accepts a magical scroll from Styx that will lead him to a key that will free him.

In search of the key, he is led deep into the Everglades where the magic is potent and this is where he meets Lylah.

Lylah’s past and who and what she is, is cloaked in mystery. But the fireworks that spark between them is more than obvious.

Are they fated to be together or is this all a big magic trick?

Consuming, spellbinding and addictive, this book takes a hold of you and doesn’t let go.

I want more Chiron. I loved his character. He is alpha-male, protective, trustworthy and loyal.

Lilah is a sweet and caring character. I was surprised by her history.

I have read several books in this series and although I have missed a few of the most recent releases, reading this book is like coming home again.

The touch on previous characters, Styx and Viper makes me want to return and reread their stories.

Levet, OMG! I have a missed him. He is the most unique character! He is comedic and cute all in one.

From laugh-out-loud moments to edge of your seat suspense, this author has a way of writing that engages the reader and keeps their rapt attention to the very end.

Not only does she write compelling main characters but secondary ones as well.

I want stories from almost every secondary character in this book from Ulric, what a sexy wolf, to Inga, Levet not to mention Tarak. I’m absolutely obsessed!

A phenomenal paranormal romance that can’t be beat.

I received an ARC via NetGalley of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I would highly recommend reading the other books in this series before you read this one just so you understand events that are spoken of that happened in the past. It has been almost 4 years since the last book in this series and I honestly thought that it was over. And then this one comes and let me tell you, it does disappoint and just reminded me all over again why I love this series to begin with! I love that we get to see a bit of Styxx because who doesn't love that vampire?? Chiron is on the hunt to find his master, Tarak, and free him. Unfortunately for him Levet has been sent with to help him, and we all know how much the men love Levet LOL! Chiron is led to the Everglades and a meeting with Lilah. This book has quite a few twists and turns and I loved every minute of it! Chiron is loyal to the point of almost excluding what could be the best thing for him. Lilah was definitely the biggest surprise for me! I definitely wasn't expecting to find out what I did about her! And then you have the side characters that are introduced and it all just reminds me of how much I truly love this author! I can't wait for not only Tarak's story but all the new characters that are introduced as well! Another great read in this series and I can't wait to see where this storyline takes us!

The King of the Vampires- Styx- lived in a mansion in Chicago with other paranormals Styx mate is Darcy. Styx would move heaven and earth to please his female Styx was in his private study when Viper walked in who was also a vampire. Styx and Viper had been through hell together- literary. In the past they had battled the Dark Lord, evil witches, and dragons. Styx told Viper he was going away for a couple of days to Vegas. He was meeting with the Rebels. The Rebels were a clan of vampires led by Tarek who led an insurrection against the former Amasso-vampire king- after he’d taken command of the warring clans and consolidated them under his rule. At least that is what Styx had been told and believed after tarek disappeared. He said he was taking Levitt with him-Levitt was a gargoyle-. Who viper’s mate had rescued and Styx and Viper both couldn’t stand him. All vampires have individual talents and Styx’s was a blast of energy that could cripple his opponents. Styx shows Viper a thick scroll and said he had found out Tarek had not been exiled but held in a magical prison and the scroll held the location of the key to the magical prison. The scroll was a pack with a coven of witches which vampires hated to deal with. Chiron had stood by his master Tarek as the previous Amasso had driven the rebels fro their territory his master siad Tarek had turned into a traitor. But Styx had made a bad mistake when he dismissed Chiron , who’d been Tarek’s most loyal servant who had pleaded for help when Tarek disappeared. Styx said he had to release tarek. Styx said he was going to Vegas giving the scroll to chiron and hand over Levitt to help him find the magical prison. Chiron had settled in vegas and owned the Dreamscape Resorts and Casinos around the world. Chiron was the public face of the Rebels as far as Styx could see. Witches, magic, and hidden prisons were enough to put a vampire on edge. Chirons penthouse office was designed to make a statement. Wealth. Sophistication. Power. The three things that impressed the mortals he dealt with routinely. Chiron was going to try to find Tarek to release him if he had been imprisoned. Alric was Chiron’s personal guard. Chiron’s gift was he could delve into peoples minds. The vampires were the hardest to do that to but he believed Styx and that it wasn’t a trap. Chiron was making Ulric stay behind and run his business but he would take Levitt. Levitt lead them to a demon hotel in Florida that is kept well hidden from humans. The owner was Lilah and Chiron wasn’t sure what she was. Levitt said he could sense the presence but it was impossible to pinpoint the exact location. He could sense it until he passed through the barrier of the hotel. He also said the magic was odd, almost Fae but not quiet. The gargoyle was puzzled, chiron said if Levitt failed him it would be the last thing he did. Chiron jad never experienced such an intense reaction as he did to Lilah. He isn’t sure if he can trust Lilah or if she had anything to do with his missing master. But he does know Lilah is his mate. Lilah has no past memories. She had spent her whole life at the estate but she dreams of traveling the world. Her childhood ogress nanny had never left her and she always convinces Lilah to stay every time she brought up leaving. Chiron and Lilah’s relationship develops quickly and that makes Lilah want to find out about her past.
I enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed how much nothing appeared to be. I chuckled a couple of times while reading this. Lilah and chiron had hot chemistry and I liked them together. I loved the suspense and action . This book grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept it until the end. This is a quick enjoyable read. This ended in a small cliffhanger and I hate any kinds of cliffhangers aso this did affect my rating. I did love the characters and the twists and turns of this book and I recommend it.

Darkness Return by Alexandra Ivy is the 13th volume in her Guardians of Eternity series. After a 4-year absence, the author comes back with the original series that made her success and I must say this first volume in a new arc is a success.

The book begins with a conversation between two of the series’ most popular and powerful heroes: Styx (Darkness Everlasting) and Viper (Embrace the Darkness). Styx has a major problem when he finds proofs of another treason by the previous Anasso.
For those who’ve been following the series from the start, Styx has become Anasso, king of vampires, after the death of the previous one who was a big bad guy and who had duped most of his subjects including Styx. Through the volumes, Styx learned how much he was manipulated by his former master.
In Darkness Return he’s just discovered that his former master lied to a group of vampires who were considered traitors and who Styx helped to banish. Now, this group is called the Rebels. He’s got in his possession information that would allow Chiron, one of the Rebels, to find the clan’s chief who’s considered missing or even dead. And even if he doesn’t trust Styx, he decides to go and search for his master. For that he’s helped by… Levet, the famous. LOL. Because Levet is always able to find sealed portals and if the master is captive, this power will be useful to free him.

The action of the book begins when Chiron appears and begins his investigation. With Levet’s help he arrives in Florida, in a hotel which belongs to Lilah, our heroine. It’s the moment when the heroes from the first arc “disappear.”
We see really quickly the common thread of the story with bad guys from another species who could put all our heroes on danger, the previous ones as the new ones.
It’s not really useful to read the previous volumes to read this book but I recommend to first reading the other or none at all. Indeed, reading Darkness Returns then When Darkness Comes could only disturb the readers.
As usual with Alexandra, in addition of the romance, we have action, a well though plot, an ending where we have all the answers to the questions of the book and a little idea about the next heroes.

I was very surprised by Lilah and we can say the author keeps us on tenterhooks concerning her past. When we finally have the answers well… LOL. Read the book because it’s a much unexpected twist we have here.
The hero however is very transparent: we know what he wants and we admire his determination.
As usual, the attraction is immediate between our heroes and they yield quite fast with the idea it will not last. It’s the kind of relationship I love in romances and I wasn’t disappointed. There are not many sex scenes, which is logical as the heroes have a mission to accomplish.

To conclude, Darkness Returns is a very good addition in this series and I think that Alexandra Ivy has very well renewed her series. I can’t wait to read the next volume expected in August 2019.

Review:
Guardians of Eternity by Alexandra Ivy is a series that had been on my TBR list for a few weeks. Then, I see Darkness Returns on NetGalley and just knew it was fate to read this series. I’ve really enjoyed all of the books! They tend to get a little repetitive at times, mainly in the beginnings and descriptions, but I think that’s fairly common with most series. I mean, there’s only so many ways to describe “Tall, Dark and Handsome” for one specific character over 10 times, right?

“The current Anasso, Styx, was a six-foot-six male with the stark Aztec features of his ancestors.”— Darkness Returns by Alexandra Ivy

You get the picture, right? That being said, it really only is the opening lines that are like that in each book and the rest is golden! It seemed that the plot was beginning to lag a bit on the last few books, but with Darkness Returns, we see new characters and it’s clear that the plot is expanding into new territory. With new creatures, plots and villains(oh my!), Darkness Returns is a great addition to the series.

“Holy hell,’ he said in low tones. ‘I didn’t know this hotel was blessed with angels.’ Her Eyes has widened, as if she was equally stunned by the impact of Chiron’s presence. Then, they abruptly narrowed as Chiron spoke. ‘That’s not the worst line I’ve ever heard, but it’s close,’ she informed him.”—Darkness Returns by Alexandra Ivy

I hate spoilers, so I won’t mention any but I will say that Darkness Returns is well worth the read if you’re into paranormal romance. It’s the perfect mix between romance and fantasy with well thought out plot planning. I love Chiron and Lilah’s story and I hope to see more of them in the next book!

“Shh.’ He allowed his fingers to stroke over her cheeks, bending his head until they were nose to nose. ‘Look into my eyes.’ She released a choked laugh. ‘Isn’t that a little cliched?’ ‘You already know I have a fondness for cheesy lines.”—Darkness Returns by Alexandra Ivy

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC copy to read and give my honest opinion.

The gangs all here... Happen to love these guardian books as Styx appears in this one. After going through the old Anasso's stuff Styx realizes Tarak was not a traitor and that someone would have to go find him to undo the wrong. He gives the job to the only man to actually stand for Tarak and that is Chiron. Chiron is a hot ass vamp and owns more than a couple of hotels. Styx's last command is that Chiron take Levet, the annoying gargoyle, with him to help him find the key from the map and release Chiron's master Tarak. We all know that where Levet is, love is soon to follow.

What did I like? This is just a fun series. All can be read as stand alones but reading the entire series is fun too. Chiron and Layla are a cute couple but the relationship moves forward at lightening speed so the chemistry for me is at a low point. Levet really saves this book be cause he is just adorable and his horrible quips are just hilarious. This actually reads like a buffer book because several key things happen in this book that seem to be leading to a bigger story, kind of like a filler.

Would I buy this book? Yes! Someday when this series is actually done I'm just going to chain read it in its entirety. Its that good! I feel like I miss so much in between reading books because I read so much. The series is great and very entertaining!

Thoughts for the author? Smoking hot cover on this one...Love it! The book had a great feel but it felt like Chiron and Layla are just a small part of the story. The amassing of several characters in this book was surprising since your more dedicated to a couple usually. Still I enjoyed reading it and gave it four stars!

it's so nice to return to the Guardians of Eternity world, and Ivy quickly reminds you why as old faves Styxx & Viper display the wit and irreverently humorous banter is a such a part of the series as they introduce us to the new contingent of characters, the rebels, that upcoming books will center around. before long we meet Chiron as he's off to free his long captive clan leader with questionable assistance of fan favorite Levet. Darkness Returns includes much of the what has made this series so successful -- interesting, likable characters & plots with plenty of action & adventure as well as quiet time for a love story that balances "fated mates"/"the one" against natural resistance, doubt & fear to develop and grow. there's also a couple little twists and turns to help keep it all interesting. Ivy once again provides a great hero in Charon. He's all alpha power & attitude but never strays into over the top. somehow she always creates heroes that are passionate, dangerous and delightfully sinful, and match them with a heroine who is smart, caring, courageous & keeps him on his toes. Perhaps due in part to the sabbatical the author took from this series, Darkness Returns feels fresh while keeping true the feel of the series and leaves me looking forward to more. I would definitely recommend for fans of the series or as a starting point for new readers (though be warned you may decide to go back and binge on the prior books).

I’ve admittedly not been the best at keeping up with this series. I jump in and out, but they are usually easy enough to “catch up” on that it doesn’t really matter. If this is your introduction to this world, then I don’t think you’ll struggle at all. This feels like the beginning of a larger story anyway.

We meet up with Chiron, a vampire who is the owner of some successful casinos. All his undead life, he has been struggling with his master’s death only to come to learn that he was actually imprisoned all this time. Already late to the game, he goes on a journey to try to find him that (for some reason) means that he has to take a weird little gargoyle character who can sense magic. Their path is slowly leading them towards a mysterious “key” to unlocking his master’s prison. On the way, however, they end up at a magical resort for demons.

It’s at this resort that Chiron meets Lilah, who is a mystery all her own. Her overbearing ex-nanny has been helping her take care of the resort for as long as Lilah can remember, which actually isn’t very long. Chiron and Lilah’s relationship really moves quickly, all while Chiron’s partners end up uncovering a larger secret. There’s twists and turns, but we ultimately get to some sort of happy ending for these two lovebirds. Not everything is wrapped up here, though, and if you were trying, you could make an argument that this ends in a cliffhanger.
