Luca is the oldest son of a mafia boss and she will be his queen. This is the start of an amazing new series with plenty of drama, suspense and steam. The story is quick, and the characters have lots of layers. I loved it!

Devil’s Pawn is the prequel that tells the story about the Varasso Mafia family. Every week, without fail, family meals are held on a Sunday. It begins with Valentina marrying Angelo Varasso, the head of the crime family that he inherited from his predecessors. Valentina and Angelo have three sons before Valentina’s death in a car accident. At the time Luca was 15 years of age, Marco 13 and Alessandro just 7. Not long after, they are introduced to Gabriel, their 12 year old brother and his mother, their fathers mistress for over a decade. The story then turns to Luca’s love life when he is in his 20’s. He met and fell madly in love with Alana, the nurse that treated him after an altercation. It continues to explain the series of events that lead to Luca turning into a cold hearted killer. (Your heart breaks for Luca and tissues are recommended). It is a well written and thoroughly enjoyable read. The characters are each unique and interesting. It’s a reasonably short story that packs a punch and leaves no questions unanswered until the very end. Absolutely fantastic!
* Fallen Knight is the next book in the series and continues Luca’s story.
* Cruel Prince continues the series with Marco’s tale.

Taken, locked up, knocked up and falling in love.............can it have a happy ending?
Devil's Pawn is the prequel to the Varasso Brothers series by Sophia Reed. This is the first book I have read by this author so I was not sure if I would like her writing style. But the book description looked like it could be nicely dark and more than attention getting, if done right. Well this author has knocked it out of the park with this short introduction to the Mafia world of the Varasso brothers.
This story is about Luca who is the first born son and heir apparent to the Varasso mafia family based in Philadelphia and Alana. He is expected to get married and have children to carry on the line. Well he gets half of it right as he and Alana do get pregnant but he is leery to get married as he believes his family has a curse on it. The book is left with a cliffhanger in order to set-up for Fallen Knight.
This was a really well written and engaging story with nice characters, even when I wanted to kick some butt I still liked them. It will be interesting to see what happens with Luca and Alana as they deal with the changes that are happening in the Varasso mafia family.

Devil's Pawn introduces the Varasso Family. Angelo and Valentina had the beautiful Varasso Brothers, Luca, Marco, Alessandro and thanks to an affair Angelo had, Gabriel was brought into the fold. Though this family is believed to be cursed they are a force to reckoned with and you can expect only the very worst if you mess with any of them. Family and Loyalty comes above all else. Blood means more than anything with the Varasso's and they protect each other with a fierceness that is comparable to none. Valentina died when the boys were young leaving them with an angry, ruthless Angelo. Luca is the first to find his love Alana, a nurse at the clinic. They were happy for a time but then the Varasso curse reared it ugly head again and turned everything upside down. This family sees tragedy, sadness, upheaval and love that knows no bounds.

This book is the prequel to Sophia Reed’s The Varasso Brothers Mafia Romance series.This short dark mafia romance gets your attention on page one and is an emotional rollercoaster til the last page. It features Luca, first born son and heir to a Philadelphia mob boss to the Varasso mafia family, and Alanas, who he impregnates with his child but does not marry. This book ends in a cliffhanger which prepares you for the next book in the series entitled Fallen Knight.

Though not read in order, this gives you an understanding of who Luca Varasso the man is. His devastating loss and being one of the Princes and eldest of the Varasso siblings has shelled him as a feared and respected leader. With his tragedy, he has gone on hiatus from the demands of his father.
No spoiling, a short read but an understanding of the Varasso family too.
Again, don’t need to read this book in order to the series.

This is a quick dark read that introduces the reader to a new series by this author. We are introduced to Alana and Luca and go through a rollercoaster of emotions with them. This is a deliciously dark read and I’m heading straight into the next book.

Luca is the heir apparent , and k ows there is drama, death, in his family and that's why he was fighting for falling for alana , but the heart wants what the heart wants. This was a gripping on the edge of your seat , ride and it was worth the price for admission. I highly recommend it

This book give us a preview into the life of Luca Varasso the eldest son to the Varasso mafia family. With such a crazy action packed look through what happens on one Sunday after during the family dinner. We see tragedy and new life to bring us upto speed ready for book one.

I was curious so decided to read this. It was short but gave sufficient background to the Varasso family. I will definitely read the series.

New author for me. Hrmm, this did not catch my interest, but it is a prequel. I may give the first book a try.

Synopsis does not match what I read.
In addition in the box set it is titled incorrectly as, 'Cruel Prince'. As noted by my daughter who is currently reading the box set versus individual books, as we both prefer box sets. However, we read at different speeds.
