3...At this point in the series, I am obviously hooked on the characters, BUT this case was lame...EVERY detective series has this case, so it's due...still boring! Ice pick, come on!!
When a wealthy young man, from a well-known family, Vincent Craston, is murdered, the Craston family is shattered. However, wealthy families are known to have enemies, so the FBI at New Haven, Connecticut, deem it a shut case. But, when another young woman, Robin Scoville, was murdered with the same MO, the Special Agent in Charge, Rowan Sturman, reaches out to Brenth Meredith, the FBI chief at Quantico.
The MO: A single swift stab through the ear, with an ice-pick, through to the victim’s brain.
Riley Paige, with her partners, Bill Jeffreys and Jenn Roston, are rushed to Connecticut, to help solve the case. As they start searching for clues, nothing seems to fit. The two victims were stark opposite. While Vincent Craston was perfect from a wealthy family, Robin Scoville was an amputee, with a failed marriage and struggling to make ends meet. What could possibly be the connection and motive?
A lucky break points towards a possible witness to Robin’s murder, Wesley Mannis; however, he’s severely autistic. And whatever he witnessed that night had made him totally uncommunicative and he had withdrawn into himself.
Riley and her partners seem to be drawing a blank with regards to clues and suspects. To top it up, there is immense pressure from Niles Craston, uncle of Vincent, to solve the case on priority. As their attempts to get through to Mannis meets with resistance, none of the other clues seem to add up. Just when they thought that they weren’t progressing anywhere, the killer strikes again.
Who is the Is the killer? And what could possibly be the motive? Will Riley and her team be able to stop a fourth murder?
Fast-paced and well written, the plot had a lot of twists.
And it was a good read, like the others in the series. Loved the climax and the revelation of the killer.
5.0 out of 5 starsHOME RUN! May 29, 2019 Format: Kindle Edition Riley, Bill and Jenn have been given their marching orders....go to Connecticut, solve another series of murders and do it all by the book but orders are orders and this unique trio have good intentions. By the time they arrive on the scene there is a second murder and then a third. Mr. Pierce keeps coming up with some inventive ways to commit murder and this time it's by ice pick.
This writer knows how to keep you on the edge and not be able to put down the book until finished. I have read and enjoyed each and every story by Mr. Pierce and he continues to hold my interest, hit home runs and surprise me with each new story.
I was given an advanced copy of Once Shunned and was in no way compensated for my review.
Riley Page is still going strong! Her family ia still growing up and hound through the motions as another case falls into her team's lap. This case follows a killer that kills with an ice pick through the ear. Quick and very little mess.
It leaves them searching high and low for a lead. They get to a kid who is on the spectrum and has a very hard time conveying his thoughts to people. It leads Riley to a meeting with his therapist where he asks if she herself is on the spectrum. So many thoughts!
In thurs book Ryan has also convinced himself that him and Riley need to be back together, so he followed her to her case and causes a scene. Then in the end, Riley and Blain are faced with the question of will they continue on to get married or not. I can't wait for the next one!
Oooooooooooooooooo super surprise villain in this Book 15 of the Riley Paige series. This one I truly didn't see coming until Riley figured it out. A killer is striking victims with apparently nothing in common. The weapon here is an ice pick. There is one witness, and he is unable to speak about it. Riley's talents are tested here. I did enjoy reading her connect with the sole witness. As always, there are other stories going on in the background, and it is amazing how Blake Pierce keeps Riley sane.
To learn about these different disabilities. Is wonderful to understand what these people suffer. How they over come them to be able to interact with people on a daily basis. The other thing that impressed me is Riley's determination to always get the correct person involved for the murder's no matter what it take, even being stabbed to stop him from killing another innocent person. I highly recommend this book.
A killer targets people who aren't perfect because he has an old injury that made him a target. It takes three murders for the connection to become apparent to Riley and her team. The have trouble pinpointing the killer and poor Riley gets stabbed trying to question a suspect. Her ex husband inserts himself into the case and totally blows any chance of a good relationship with his former family. Blaine starting to pull away now too.

The story was good as usual. But there was the obvious usual Riley gets in trouble, Riley is the only one that can solve the case, Riley disobeys, crisis at home, etc. It’s always the same format. Additionally, why do we have an English narrator when the character is American? And lastly, this narrator is still terrible. I especially do not enjoy the saliva thing she does. I could live without her doing all of the rest of the books for sure.
These books are incredibly addictive and as you can see from my reading list, I am reading them at the rate of knots. I have been devouring this series and every other series this author has written. What I will note, is that the books seem to be getting shorter at the same price point and the editing leaves a lot to be desired. However, the stories just bring me back for more and more and more.
I really enjoy this series! Riley always has something interesting to deal with as she solves her cases, in this instance a witness who is autistic and can’t give her the information she needs. Look forward to the next one!
Once again, the Riley Page series is hard to put down. I've read 15 in this series and never disappointed. I still have issues with the grammar and mistakes, but I manage to enjoy the books regardless. Keep them coming!
I loved this one! A killer who can't stand imperfections in others or himself. A love affair that may not stand the test of a BAU agent's many brushes with death. I never get tired of reading about Riley Paige.
I have found that all of he Riley Paige series books are strewn with unnecessary editing errors. Missing words ... unnecessary words added in in off places ... words duplicated in the same sentence. Great books ... but sloppy editing. No excuse.
Once Shunned was one of the best books in the Riley Paige series. I kept going back and forth trying to figure out the killer. I'm definitely ready for the next adventure.
Riley has lots of demons to work through and a tough job. Also a complicated family life. Nothing is easy. But she solves the murder and gets back to her family. Good story. The killer had me guessing. Did not see him coming.
Well done Blake Pierce. Yet again another book had me gripped from start to end. I love how when I'm reading this series I feel like I know Riley personally. Well done
I thought that the parts of this book dealing with Riley's self-doubts, as well as the treatment of characters on the autism spectrum (while not perfect), were insightful.
