Kindred Spirits

Adam used to hit nine, ten parties a week. But now that he's realized that there's more to him than just his physical shell of a body, he can't believe how shallow everyone else is being. He's just about to ditch Jennifer's lame party when she introduces him to her brother, John. Whoa. John is older than the guys Adam normally hooks up with, but he totally gets where Adam is coming from. John is reluctant to get with a stranger, but sometimes two souls see something in one another--and there's just no stopping them from connecting. Kindred Spirits is a 3700-word standalone short story, approximately 8 pages long.

Author and artist Jordan Castillo Price writes paranormal sci-fi thrillers colored by her time in the Midwest, from inner city Chicago, to various cities across southern Wisconsin. She’s settled in a 1910 Cape Cod near Lake Michigan with tons of character and a plethora of bizarre spiders. Any disembodied noises, she’s decided, will be blamed on the ice maker.

Jordan is best known as the author of the PsyCop series, an unfolding tale of paranormal mystery and suspense starring Victor Bayne, a gay medium who's plagued by ghostly visitations.

This a short story by JCP. Adam, fresh off of a seminar about chakras and sixth sense is at Jennifer's party. Jennifer introduces him clearly older and more conservative brother, then asks him to keep him company while she runs off to play hostess. The story goes from there.

I kept waiting for something to happen, since Adam and his over the top spiritual chakra mumbo jumbo thing was weird. I didn't see that coming though and I have to admit to laughing out loud.

Always a pleasure to read anything by JCP!

BWA-HAHAHAHAHA! I love this ending and totally did NOT see that coming!

Adam is a weirdo - talking about his soul talking to him and doing readings and all kinds of asinine hoodoo nonsense. I didn't like his character at all and he totally annoyed me. John on the other hand was quiet, shy, and I liked him a lot. This story was hovering around 2/2.5 stars for me but the ending really reeled me right back in. You go, JCP! Love this!

This was a fun short. A very short, short. Adam made me smile because I know so many people that speak as he does. Nothing breathtakingly new, but that's not what its for. It's intended as light entertainment and thats exactly what it is. Nothing deep or thought provoking, but still well-written. Definitely worth the few pennies it costs for the smile it brings.

I really enjoyed this story, and I did kind of wonder if it would end how it did, but perhaps it's my priest fetish that encouraged me to look for it, to pick up the little clues.

Definitely glad I read it, though I would have read it long ago if I'd known why John was so hesitant.

Adam was a lot more intuitive than I though he was going to be with the whole soul thing. The ending was a bit of a surprise and I wished there was more. John really piqued my interest and maybe one day there'll be a story for John?

I saw the end twist coming so the whole thing was moot. Adam was a bit of a flake and I felt sorry for John 'coz he has some issues to sort out. *shrugs* Didn't really work for me.
