Albatross: Albatross Series #0.5

Rate this book
From her market booth on Darya’s busiest street in the middle of winter, Noelani hears the ocean hit the sand like the incessant chime of life’s eternal clock.

She tries to block the sound from her mind, but it pulls her back, until suddenly she’s twelve again, kneeling by her little brother’s broken, blue body, screaming, begging him to wake up.

The memories have haunted Noelani for twelve years, though she’s tried her hardest to forget, to atone for her mistake. She hadn’t been watching her little brother that day he got his wings. Instead, she’d been watching Kit, her crush. Her little brother was dead, and it was all her fault. That was why the Goddess never granted her wings, she was sure of it.

She lives alone now, isolated, secluded, too afraid to step outside unless it is to sell her jewelry in the market so she can keep her house that is far, far away from the shore.

When Kit unexpectedly shows up in Darya again, all grown up but as insufferable and handsome as ever, Noelani has to face her past, her fears, and her guilt. Will Noelani keep hiding in the dark, or will she finally face the sun and grow her wings?

This is a prequel to the upcoming fantasy romance series, Albatross, which will take place centuries after this novella's time setting. This is a stand alone novella, but can be read to understand the Thalassa family curse better.
