Brooke Douger has a knack for helping others with their broken lives, which explains her interest in criminal psychology and profiling. She convinces her childhood friend, Jacob, to move to Tampa after his latest fiasco, where he finds a job at a legal firm, which is defending Zach Barton, a rich, young entrepreneur who is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend. When Brooke has to provide expert testimony in Barton’s trial, Jacob and Brooke end up on opposite sides of the courtroom. As Brooke prepares to testify, she discovers a pattern of violent, impulsive behavior in Barton’s past, eerily similar to those of the Surfside Killer, the case she has been asked to help profile for the FBI. Brooke is swirling in dangerous waters with the killer lurking on the fringe of her life. Who will be his next victim? Will Brooke’s knack for profiling be enough to keep her safe?

Page-turner, scary, spine-tingling, riveting.

I loved this book, perfect mixture of suspense, and court room drama. I literally couldn't put the book down, finished it within 24 hours. I'm hoping there is a book two! The main plot centers around Brooke Douger, her friend Jacob, and later a love interest Kevin. At the end of each chapter an unknown character provides haunting detail about the murders he's committed. The descriptive details gave me the chills.

The writing style's easy to follow, with a point of view shifting between characters at each chapter. Every chapter had me guessing, and I"m still wanting to know more, in a good way. The story takes the reader into a mystery of whodunit. I found myself taking notes, trying to remember tiny details about each character along with the court case with the hopes of figuring out the criminals real identity.

The ending was perfect, just enough to make me wonder what will happen to the characters, but then knowing enough feeling satisfied. I cant' wait to read more from Leanna Floyd, she's on my list as one of my favorite authors.

I will be posting my review on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and my blog account.

Over the Borderline by Leanna Floyd

I am voluntarily reviewing this ARC.

This book grabbed me at the first page as it jumped right into the mind of a killer. This is all new to me as my choice of book is usually centering around romance, so I was nervous to try something new. I’m pleased to say how much this book drew me in.
There are several intertwined stories happening here, linked by a murder case. Jacob is on the criminal case as defense for the rich, entitled, murder suspect. His best friend Brooke is a psychiatrist assigned to the prosecution as a profiler expert. Then, there is a serial killer on the loose. We don’t know anything about this killer other than his thoughts before, during and after taking a life. The sub story of Jacob and his on line girlfriend is a mystery in its own right. Then there is Brooke and her friendship with Jacob.
There was a lot of suspense. A lot of mystery. And an ending that had me gasping. I really loved this book, and maybe I’m a little
more open to thrillers now thanks to the story telling of Leanna Floyd.

I loved this book!!!!!!!! The authors detailed development of the characters had me emotionally invested to Brooke! So suspensiful! I really enjoy the different perspectives, especially reading from the serial killers point of view. Totally fascinating!!! Phenomenal read! The end leaves you satisfied with knowing who the killer is, but keeps you in just enough suspense that your kept anxiously anticipating the sequel! I need the sequel like yesterday!

Over the Borderline literally took my breath away! The story was Beautifully written, and it had me hooked from the first entry from the mysterious Surfside Killer. I also loved the court scenes spring led throughout the story. What really hit home for me was knowing that the author used the traumatic murdernof her cousin to inspire her writing of the trial. My heart ached throughout various scenes because I have experienced a similar loss, and I could remember the intense pain that I experienced. The characters were beautifully developed, and I could see myself being friends with the main character Brooke. I just found her to be so relatable. I found myself going back and forth between who the killer was, and I was floored at the ending. I loved how the author leaves the ending, and I cant wait for the next book. If you are looking for an amazing book that will take you on a suspenseful journey, I highly recommend this book

An edge of your seat, thought provoking thriller! I absolutely loved this book! From the moment the story begins, the characters pull you in immediately. Brooke and Jacob, the two main characters, are completely relatable and the reader is taken on a thrilling, sometimes heart pounding journey, with each of them. Leanna Floyd does an excellent job throughout the book of keeping you on the edge of your seat while also keeping you guessing at every twist and turn. The story flows so well and is beautifully written by an author who clearly has a deep understanding and knowledge of the psychological aspects of human nature. It’s truly a thought provoking read that you won’t want to put down once you start. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers!

I just finished this book and wow! The author's knowledge in psychology helped paint a picture in my mind about the different characters’ quirks and pathology. I really liked seeing the inner thoughts of the killer and the way various characters' personalities were expressed. I liked the way the book flowed, and I found myself rushing to read faster because I just had to know what was going to happen next. The ending caught me by surprise, but going back over the details of the story, it all made sense. I was happy to see on the author’s Facebook page that she is currently writing a sequel to this book. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the sequel.

I used this as my "car book." anytime I found myself someplace and had to wait, I'd grab this book. It held up reading it over a few months. Gripping and well-written. (My only complaint is the formatting was hard to read in a hardcover book. I hope the publisher puts out a paperback because the print went too close into the binding, and I felt like I was breaking the spine to read the words.)

I won this book in a giveaway from the author. I love a good giveaway and am thankful and grateful! This being said, I'm going to present an unbiased review.

**Contains Spoilers**

What. The. Heck.

I read this in one sitting and was determined to get to a plot twist that would shatter my expectation. And then... the book just ended.

1. Jacob was clearly the SKK killer. Right? Right? I expected this from the very beginning.
2. Chapter 44 - What was the purpose of Hector coming to Tampa? What was the purpose of Hector meeting Juan? Is the author just tying up loose ends?
3. Is the author inferencing that Hector is Kevin? I am SO confused by chapter 44. Is this just a quick wrap up? That can't be the purpose of this chapter.
4. "'This will be good,' Brooke thought. Little did she realize how close she was to having all of her SSK questions answered." (p. 203.) WHAT? Brooke's narrative ends there. What? Yes, yes, we know that Brooke has had a secret, extremely misguided crush on Jacob. But why leave it at that?
5. What was the purpose of having Jasmine work for the government? Was it just to have a reason for her to be off of social media?

There's a lot going on in this book.
Not all of the story lines seemed relevant. Was the whole Alicia narrative just to illustrate Jacob's instability and obsessiveness? What was the purpose of introducing the car fire in Jacob's past?
It was all pretty far-fetched. The writing style, Kristin Hannah-esk attempting the crime genre.

Did I read the same book as the other reviewers?

Leanna Floyd was kind enough to send me a copy of her book, and I'm forever grateful that she did, because it was SO GOOD!
The thriller is about Brooke and Jacob, who have been best friends for a long time and end up working on the same trial on opposite ends of the courtroom.
You read from both Jacobs, Brookes and the Surfside-killers perspective, the latter talking about his murders while he does them. It is disturbing and intriguing all at once, you learn about the background of the characters and their relationships, while the tension slowly builds. The question in your head remains constant: Who is the Surfside Serial Killer? And Leanna lets you search for that answer until the last second, when it hits you like a bomb. A-Ma-Zing.

This book was outstanding! I was intrigued by her motivation to write this book (the murder trial of her cousin and her own death sentence working in a prison). I really liked the psychological components throughout the book, and I found the sections about the serial killer(s) fascinating. This is a book that has a lot of suspense and mystery, and I really enjoyed trying to put the clues together. I thought the ending was well done, but it did leave me replaying different scenarios throughout the book to piece together why the killer did what he did. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel, and I would definitely recommend this book.

This book could easily translate to the big screen. Floyd's obvious knowledge of criminal psychology shines through and her ability to weave a believable plot demonstrated further talent. I particularly enjoyed the complexity of Brooke and Jacob's relationship. The courtroom drama provided many dilemmas! Well done, keen for book two!

If you like psychological thrillers, Over the Borderline will keep you guessing until the end... and even then you're not sure. Brooke Douger, the main character, is focused on becoming a profiler. When her dream job is offered to her by her professor and mentor, she finds herself across the room facing her best friend, Jacob, who is working for the defense. There are a couple of storylines going on, but at the center is the Surfside Killer. Each interaction, each conversation makes you think you know who the serial killer is. And then something else happens that leaves you in doubt. While Brooke is good at profiling, she may be too close to see the borderline personality traits in those close to her.

My Book Club had the pleasure of meeting Leanna Floyd after reading her book. We had a great discussion and a sneak peak into the next book-- I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

Absolutely riveting!!

Leanna Floyd has turned out an outstanding debut novel that draws on her experiences as a psychotherapist. Her characters are richly drawn. The suspense starts early, as she sprinkles the story with accounts from a serial killer as he dispenses with victim after victim. Mid book, the suspense intensifies as the side stories and main story, all riveting in their own right, begin to show signs of coming together. The last third of the book picks up a feverish pace, causing a part-dread, part-thirst for answers as the plot intensifies. I was kept guessing until the last paragraph and could not put the book down during the final few chapters. Keep your eye on this author. She's an impeccable writer with a gift for suspense!

A mess that was promising at the beginning and at the end it just disconnected me from this read.I wouldn't recommend this author. Reviews are very misleading and if you bother to check reviewers you will see this is the only book they reviewed. I gave it two stars but because of that I'm giving it one star.I hate Internet trolling and authors writing their own reviews to enhance sales for their mediocre work.

Great read with a gripping storyline!

The story follows the switching points of view between Brooke, a psychologist on the verge of achieving her PhD, and her best friend Jacob, who is trying to get his life back on track after a failed relationship. Both find themselves on different sides of a high profile homicide case. In the background, a serial killer’s body count is starting to rise.

Floyd very quickly sucks you in and keeps hold throughout with fast-moving dialogue and revelations. The question of whether the serial killer and the homicide case are connected tethers the story in a suspenseful way, and through it all the unnerving feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop plagues you. The homicide investigation and court case are handled well throughout the story, with Floyd’s personal expertise creating a very realistic and compelling whodunit with an unpredictable—but satisfying—outcome.

The dynamic between the main characters Brooke and Jacob is a realistic and interesting one. Brooke’s perspective as a psychologist measuring the interactions of those around her makes for a fun read and hero you can easily root for. While Jacob isn’t particularly likeable, his pursuit for a happily ever after in the digital world will be relatable for many. For both, I very much felt at arms length from the characters, never truly getting to know either one as much as you want to—which proved frustrating at first, but by the end is shown as a deliberate decision of Floyd’s. Very few of the characters weaved into the story are as they appear and serve as a reminder that the face many show to the world is very rarely the complete truth.

Over the Borderline contains an assortment of twists, balanced between a jumping POV, which keeps you hooked and culminates in a “what the” cliffhanger leaving you wanting more. 4.5/5 ⭐️

I am now in love with Leanne Floyd’s writing. This read flowed very smoothly and everything was easy to understand.

I loved all the knowledge that was poured into this book— made for an interesting AND intriguing read. The point of view from the so-called “killer” and Jacob’s along with Brooke’s was nice. You had two different worlds channeling around the same thing.

The court scenes were described wonderfully. When I was reading these parts, it felt like I was actually sitting in the room in the background, watching everything unfold in front of my eyes. Also, maybe I have an advantage because I’ve been in multiple court rooms due to my prior past of being in foster care. However, Leanna did a great job explaining everything and every detail. It wasn’t distracting— if anything, it was the icing on top of the cake!

The relationship between Jacob and Brooke felt very loving and that’s probably why I grew so attached to those characters; I use to have a best friend from my childhood who I no longer have so it felt almost refreshing to read their relationship. However, the twist at the end fueled my curiosity and excitement for the sequel!

This was a great read and I had to give it five stars because I just enjoyed it SO much.
