I thought turning 18 would make me a free witch, but now I am staring a death sentence in the face...
I should have listened to my uncle when he told me not to go to that party, but it was the party of the century. And I had spent way too much time being the mopey emo witch girl whose parents had died serving "the man". I wanted to let loose. But I didn't take the risks seriously.
Not all paranormals are good, and many have sinister plans best served by an unsuspecting witch who had a lot too much to drink.
Next I know it, I am begging for my life after having been turned into an abomination against my will; an illegal blood witch who is too dangerous to live. All I can hope is that the fact that my father died in the service of the very people that hold my fate in their hands now still means something to them. And they will show me mercy.
Though, going to their academy to be trained to die just the same as he did is a rough definition of mercy.

This book had a lot going for it! The story sounds interesting and everything started at a steady pace from the beginning but I just can't get over a few small but very important things.
1) The writing style. Maybe it just isn't for me and if that's the case I'll gladly admit defeat. However, the lack of contractions anywhere was hard to swallow. The lack of contractions in the dialogue killed me. Everything including the main character's inner monologue sounded robotic and rehearsed. It's just not what I want a novel from the point of view of an 18-year-old girl to sound like.
2) This book would have really benefited from another round or two of grammar editing. I'm not a stickler for grammar. I can overlook a lot but this book pushed me to the edge and kept right on going.
Lastly, 3) In what world does the main character live in to be this naive and just plain stupid when going out "clubbing". The first rule of clubbing is to not accept pre-opened drinks and/or drinks that you haven't personally opened or seen the bartender open/pour. Does she not have access to movies, tv shows or books? How come Vivi never told her this? Women should look out for women. What can I say I like a sprinkle of realism with my fantasy.
This is book one of the Paranormal Hunter Academy and follows the main character Riley as she has just turned eighteen. She has lost both of her parents who were Paranormal Hunters, her father ended up being killed on the job and his wife shortly after. Since then, she has lived with her uncle and cousin. After her uncle lost his brother, he hasn’t really been interested in getting her any training for her witch magic, even though most witches start proper training at sixteen. Riley isn’t that bothered either, as she doesn’t see herself following her parents roles and becoming a hunter.
On the night of her eighteenth birthday, there is a huge party going on at the local Indian reservation, where rules on magic and its use are a lot more relaxed and where the Magistrate don’t have as much influence. She gets a lift with some others and catches the eye of a male in a hoodie. He invites her to get a drink and have a dance with him, but little does she realise that this will be the end of her life as she knew it. Her uncle had warned her not to go to the party, as not everyone may be trustworthy. Not all paranormals are good, some are evil or practice black magic and then there are also demons, which the hunters chase down and kill.
Having one drink too many, has left her with a death sentence. She has been changed into a blood witch, a type of witch who are not ever allowed to survive. They have a tendency to blood lust and violence and are deemed too dangerous to be allowed to live. She wants to run, but didn’t manage to recover from her drunken night in time and her uncle found her. He immediately realise what she has become and takes her to the Magistrate headquarters, where she will be put on trial and probably killed immediately.
Luckily for her, her dead father’s record as a hunter may have some influence on her behalf with the Magistrates, there to give judgement on her. They give her a choice, enrol at the Paranormal Hunter Academy immediately or be put to death! After she graduates, she will be a hunter for the rest of her life, working on their behalf. So, either be killed now, or just wait till she finishes at school and then be killed hunting down demons, like her father. Not much of a choice, but at only eighteen, she certainly doesn’t want to die just yet!
Once at the academy, she makes one friend who is also the same as her, but was born like that. He also has no choice about attending the academy and has a mother who is on the run, as she is also a blood witch. Another guy there seems to have an interest in her, but after what had happened to her the last time she got friendly with a bloke, she isn’t very keen to get involved. He keeps up his interest and finding out he is the son of a Magistrate, makes her even more wary, as surely his father won’t be exactly happy with their relationship!
Add in a demon and even an angel and the storyline gets more intriguing as the reasons someone changed her into a blood witch get closer to being revealed. There is lots to get you connected to the story, great characters and a well disguised plot still to be uncovered, good friends, romance and even jealousy leading to severe injury. Tempers may fray, but Riley needs to contain her anger as her new condition could be deadly. I loved this book and can’t wait to see what the main set of characters get up to and how much is revealed about Riley and why she was changed and what her role may be. I look forward to reading the next book in the series as soon as possible. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

From low magic witch to powerful Blood Witch? Since the deaths of her parents, Riley has lived with her uncle and cousin. Both parents were witches and demon hunters, but Riley doesn’t have a lot of magic and her uncle has always hoped she would have different choices in life than being a demon hunter also. But on her eighteenth birthday a demon forces her to drink his blood and she wakes up a blood witch, half demon and half witch. She is considered an abomination and will be executed. But the Magistrate decides to let her attend the Hunters Academy and learn to become a demon hunter, as her new powers would be beneficial. She makes a good friend, and has a boyfriend, but a magistrate named Adriel keeps singling her out, seems to have feelings for her, and she has feelings for him also, even though she also loves her boyfriend Kagan. But if she is a blood witch and supposed to be powerful, why is she having a hard time at the magic stuff? Then she finds out something shocking. She hasn’t been turned into a blood witch, but something more rare. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Like most 18 year olds Riley thinks she knows better than the uncle who raised her after her parents died. Turns out she should have listened to him because what happens to her at the party she attends should sign her death warrant but for some reason the Magistrate give her a second chance and she is sent to the Paranormal Hunter Academy where she has to hide what she is. She doesn't know why but suspects it may be because of her who parents were. She is snarky and not always the friendliest but I really liked her and felt so sorry for her with the mess she has got herself into and the position it has put her family in. But everything is not quite as it seems and she may not be what she thought she was after all. As the book continues the plot thickens and there are wonderful characters who will intrigue you and crawl into your heart.

I downloaded Blood Witch as a free ebook from Amazon. This book was an example of a promising story-line pulled down by lack of a good edit: poor grammar & spelling, and continuity issues.
For G & S, there were many instances of wrong tense usage (wipe=wiping, fills=filled), spelling (tome=time, tun=turn, sue=use, hm=him, form=from), as well as missing words, odd phrasing (almost as if the sentences were translated incorrectly from a different language, lacking contractions).
POSSIBLE SPOILER: . . . An example of continuity issues are the "roommate" who has possession by her bed, so Riley selects the other one--strangely there is never a mention after that of meeting her roommate, and she acts likes she's in a single-occupant room. My 2.5 rating is rounded up because there is so much potential, even after the abrupt ending, for a good series. A proper edit would easily have boosted this book to a four or five star rating.
Riley lives with her uncle, seeing how her parents are both dead. She wanted to go to a party on her 18th birthday, but her uncle told her no. She went anyway (with her cousin) and found herself being dazzled by a charming, good looking guy who danced with her and gave her a funny drink. She woke up in the morning, abandoned by everyone, and found that she had been turned into a blood witch - something that couldn't be tolerated - would be killed immediately. Her uncle found her and took her to the authorities who gave her the option - die or attend the Hunter's Academy. She chose to live, of course, but life was not going to be easy. There are so many twists and turns in this book, which makes it impossible to put down.
This was the second book I've read by Rae Hendricks and I really enjoyed it. I found the first book (Almost Dead) I read of hers hard to get into, but I believe that's because this isn't my usual genre. I did enjoy Almost Dead when I read it and found the way Rae writes brilliant and Blood Witch didn't change my opinion at all. I found Blood Witch much easier to get into and I enjoyed it even more than I did Almost Dead. Rae's brilliant, descriptive, captivating writing drew me into the story and made me feel like I was living the story with the characters. Definitely recommend and can't wait for book 2!

Blood Witch is much like other stories of this genre, with the drama of young adult relationships infused with the supernatural that brings complications. In this book, Riley is your typical 18-year-old witch until she sneakily does something her Uncle forbid her to do, and of course, there are life-changing consequences. She ends up at a school for supernaturals, where she has not only to figure out who she is but what. Riley finds her BFF, gets her first boyfriend, takes down a bully, and falls for an angel, all in her first few months at the Academy. There are a couple of surprising twists in the story, and some deep secrets to reveal in the next book. This one ends with a steamy cliff hanger, so reading Aurora Witch, book 2 in the Paranormal Hunters Academy series, is a must.

This was a different take on Demons, Angles and Vampires. Riley has lived with her Uncle since her parents were killed. She is now 18 and wants to go to a party, but her uncle won't let her. So she does what all teens do and goes anyway. But what happened to her? Will her family forgive her or will she die for it? What will the Academy do to her? Can they help? Can any one help? Why does she have feelings for some men that she should not?

When Riley snuck off to a paranormal party for her 18th birthday, she did not think for a minute that it might be the last birthday she ever celebrated. An encounter with a hooded stranger could mean a death sentence unless she agrees to attend the Paranormal Hunter Academy and train to become a slave Warrior for the Magistrates like her dead parents.
This promises to be an exciting series and I am looking forward to book two. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary. My only complaint is that it ends with a giant cliffhanger.
This book is not what I usually read, but I really enjoyed it. The characters were awesome and had good background information so you could see who they were. I would definitely recommend this book to readers who want a good book that isn’t so serious and is a good read for when you want to relax and just enjoy a good read. Although, I have to admit that I spent a long night up trying to finish it because I was so enthralled!!

It’s so much fun watching all of the changes that are going on with Riley. There is a lot of drama with guys, but it is interesting. Riley thinks she is a blood witch from demon blood. It turns out that she isn’t, but what is she? And how does she find out the truth? I can’t wait til the next book to see if Riley can control what she is and if she finds out the whole truth.
Blood Witch by Rae Hendricks is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading and can not wait to read the next book in this wonderful series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about magic, fantasy and paranormal romance.

Blood Witch is a fun and fast-paced read. I finished it in one sitting. I look forward to the rest of the series this book is a fantastic start and Riley is a fun MC with a big learning curve and plenty of trouble. The book is well written and has an interesting world. I received this book from Booksprout for an honest review.
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. I LOVED THE STORYLINE AND CHARACTERS. BOTH ARE VERY WELL WRITTEN AND DEVELOPED. THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK IN THE SERIES AND IT WAS A GREAT START. IM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THE NEXT BOOK AND WOULD RECOMMEND READING.

This book had some of the worst spelling and grammatical errors I have come across. Isn’t it someone’s actual job to catch these things before they get published? Not to mention the weird and confusing phrasing throughout the book and some of the rushed narrative. It is highly unlikely I will continue reading this series.
I stopped reading at 55% of the book. It has definite promise, but there were too many instances where editing was needed for me to keep going. Notably, wrong words were used in place of those that should have been there.

I really enjoyed reading Blood Witch. It is an interesting storyline with an innocent "love triangle." The writing style confused me in the beginning with the author's use of "do not" and "can not" and then switching to "don't" and "can't". Other than that, I felt the story progressed nicely and am looking forward to reading Aurora Witch.
I enjoyed this book I want more, I will be buying the next book in the series, the only think I was not a huge fan of is the love triangle I just feel like they are played out but overall the book is very good and would definitely recommend it.

This is a phenomenal read! I couldn't put down!! It's been on my TBR for a bit and so glad I got to it!!! I devoured it! Rae writes a fabulous world with fantastic characters!!🥰🤯🤯 Does have a cliff hanger as it's part of a series!

This is a good start of series with interesting characters. I am not a fan of insta love so I wish there was a little more build up to the relationships in this book but overall it was an agaging storyline that kept my interest and I am interested in seeing where the story goes next
Sometimes breaking the rules and going out to have fun has unintended consequences. Riley finds this out the hard way and now her very life is on the line. Great start to a new paranormal academy series

I liked this story about Witches, Demons and Angels. I twas not the typical good vs evil story but instead focus on Riley a witch from a good bloodline who ends up getting a surprise at a party and ending up attending the Paranormal Hunter Academy not as a witch but as a Blood Witch who escaped being executed. The story was interesting and had a bit of a mystery to it as Riley studies at the academy. I loved the characters in the story and the friends she makes. I liked the pace and the mystery and the ending was a great twist and sets up the next story wonderfully. It was pretty clean with just some heavy kissing too. I was hooked form the beginning and read it in one sitting.
This book hits the ground running. It explains the history as it goes but it can be difficult if you don't read paranormal books often. But the story is good. It gets intense toward the end. Then leaves you wanting the next book. Which is what it's supposed to do. I'm looking forward to the next one.
