Meet Bobby Reynolds, a sweet faced boy who turns into a devastatingly handsome man. But what is on the outside doesn't reflect his internal desire to maim and murder. After his mother discovers him murdering the family cat, Bobby is shipped off to an asylum run by a horde of catholic nuns. However, The residents of Wayside Manor may be haunted by more than their own mind. Will Bobby find peace and solace at Wayside? Or will he succumb to his dark desires and lose his soul's last chance at redemption?
Wow! Roxana is an incredible story writer! I truly appreciate her research and attention to detail in this book. The first chapter was a shock, but I stayed for it!
This was a book that I didn't want to put down! The first chapter was the hardest to get through, but as the story progressed, I was hooked. The characters were all interesting and the story was suspenseful. I found it really unique and unlike any other horror novel I've read in the past. Rathbun weaves so much detail into her writing, I felt like I was there at Wayside standing in the halls. I love how the book progresses far into the future, but Rathbun does not focus on how the world has changed; she keeps the mood and the story flows. There were some twists, but nothing felt cheesy or forced.
The one thing that bothered me about this book was the obvious lack of proofreading. There are many grammatical and spelling errors, and not to mention there is no chapter 15! I hope that there will be more editions of the book with corrections, because I do feel like the little mistakes did take away from the story, especially when the spelling of names changed throughout the book.
Besides that, I greatly enjoyed this story and felt intrigued by Bobby's dark and twisted journey through time. I was left with such mixed feelings; I still can't decide if I sympathize with him or if I despise him!
This novel is by far one of the most suspenseful, dark, and engaging stories I have ever read. I love supernatural thrillers and horror, and this one is up there in my top ten! Rathbun weaves very real, very dramatic characters into a intricate, otherworldly plot so effortlessly that I found myself fully immersed within the story. My imagination running rampant with the excellent visual description. I highly recommend you read this novel, just not before you go to bed!
Very good book, flows well, one of those books that once you start you can't put down till its finished. A bit gory in parts, but it really helps you to understand the mindset of the characters
