Hot Mess

Fate. Destiny. Karma… She’s mine.

It all started with a broken heart.
And a breakup party.
Rock stars. Circus freaks. And a bachelorette party.
Too. Much. Booze.
An embarrassing tattoo.
And a twist of fate.

Her name was Danny.

I thought she was The One.
But then I lost her.
And I never thought I’d see her again.
Now… I’m a mess.
I’ve had my heart broken—more than once.
And my band's broken up.
I’ve sworn to myself that I’ll never fall in love again.
Time to focus on new music and my new band.

As soon as I sober up from my latest breakup party…

But then there she is.
Standing in the rain, looking at me.
My dream girl.
My destiny…
Danny.
I missed my chance with her once.
Maybe this time… I’ll get it right.

This book is really really really no kidding long. I do not mind long boom if the story is really engaging. Unfortunately engaging is not for this book. The first 70% of this book is only telling about the character separately and its really dragging. I think the author is introduce the characters and develop the character development. But because it is told separately, I lost interest.

When Ash and Danika finally gets together, the sex is hot. But in my opinion not dirty enough, considering Ash's sexual preference. The sex is vanilla. I want more dirty BDSM or something more crazy. The story plot is flat. No drama/ twist.

Overall, I am bored listening this book.

Epilogue???

I love Jaine Diamond’s books and have long anticipated Ash’s story in this spin off series from the Dirty books. Really loved that all the characters are still around. I’ve missed them. I was so happy that Ash finally got the girl, Danica; who deserves 100% of Ashley’s devotion!!! Was, therefore, a tad disappointed in the epilogue as I see trouble ahead. Given Danica’s insecurities of Ashley’s attraction to the opposite sex, I was left frustrated. Does Ashley really love her? Has he learned nothing from the past? She shouldn’t have to share. Am nervous, and not in a good way and will have to wait a while to see how this plays out as the next book will be Xander.

Hot Mess lives up to the name. It IS a hot mess, or rather HE is lol. It's Ashley Players book. Yes THAT Ashley! Yes the same one we've been (trying lol) to patiently wait for his happily ever after. Okay yes I did love that Amber and Dylan got together, but not at the cost of Ashley's happiness. And I might still be a tiny bit still mad about it. Ok no I haven't totally forgiven Jaine, but boy did she make up for it! She outdid herself!
Ashley Player is just that. A player. Boy,girl, both ,didn't matter with him, until roses, rain and Chinatown. Annnd maybe a few drinks... And who can forget the zipper situation. O.M.G.! That part ALONE was worth reading this book. I'm still laughing as I write this.
Now, if you enjoy a good rocker book, start at the beginning of the Dirty books. Get to know the characters. Fall a tiny bit in love with each of them. (Jesse and Katie...swoon!) . Orrrrr if your like me and have followed this series, you'll DEFINITELY want to read Ash's book. It was Soooooo worth the wait.

One more thing....don't read this IF you don't want a spoiler hint, buuut.....I'm warning you....don't peak....last warning................... Matt....his book willllll be VERY interesting. Hmmmmm. ;)

If you’ve met Ashley Player in the Dirty series, then you’ve been waiting with bated breath for Ash to finally get his happily-ever-after! I know I have!

Ash has been through the wringer between the breakup of his band and multiple romantic breakups. He’s a mess—a Hot Mess. But so damn likeable and loveable and you just want him to find happiness in life and love. And at last he does!

Ash and Danica are magic. Pure magic. They’re smart, funny, snarky, and ridiculously talented. And holy hell, sexy AF. I loved them together. Loved that while Ash and Danica were more than just their sexy times in the bedroom—that they shared a deeper connection, something real. Something lasting. And I cannot wait for more from this Players series! Will we finally get DJ Summer’s story next? Fingers crossed! ~ Missy, 5 stars

This book is exhausting 😴 😭 This book is Hella Messy. Too wordy. And I hate when the author reintroduces previous characters from previous books. Ugh!!! So disappointed 😞

I loved this book.

Now, I don’t know if I loved it because I’ve been wanting to read Ash’s story since like 3 books ago or this one is genuinely that good.

Yes it’s long and I can probably see where some people are coming from in saying that not much happened for it to drag that much, but.... I wouldn’t have it any shorter, actually, can I please have some extra scenes from the future where they are disgustingly happy and have a dozen kids?

The male MC is so flawed in my opinion. In a good way though.
He is vulnerable and sensitive but at the same type he can be selfish and entitled, but where does all the good and the bad come from? The innate need of giving and receiving love and acceptance.
I guess he just felt real, rock star status apart, leaving aside his cockiness, he was insecure and a true underdog in that universe that the author created.

Had to resurrect a music career - check
Had to get over multiple breakups(broken hearts) and one very significant one - check
Had a tough, neglectful childhood - check

Now as for the female MC - she was perfect for him and that says it all. I felt as if the star of the book was Ashley though. I really truly liked Danica and can’t imagine a better girl for him but Ash did kinda steal the show, and this book would have worked even better if it was written only in his POV

What kind of ending was that!?!?!?

Ash wants love and has had problems in all of his relationships. During the book we know he' s bisexual and has had both women and men. Ok great but the point of the book was him wanting to love and be loved. He finds that with Danika. Great story, couldn't wait for the HEA but instead we get Matt the new band member he wants to sleep with. I'm at a loss. So now he wants the love of his life and a random guy because the guy is hot? I'm so mad at this ending and I hope in whatever future book concludes this story Danika dumps him and actually finds someone that loves her.

Hail to the book gods!!!! Ash finally gets his perfect woman…now to just find the man that completes them both.

Omg. Ash has been in the background of the entire Dirty series getting his heart stomped on multiple times. The guy falls easily and hard and it was tragic to watch his heart get pommeled in excruciating detail by Dylan and Amber in Dirty Like Dylan. Oh, how I disliked that book.

But here he gets redemption. Not only is he my absolute fave character of this entire world, he gets the girl who makes him better, stronger and kinder. To himself and to others. Danica is a delight.

After a bit of a shaky start where he actually made out with her twin sister (four years prior) these two orbit each other and made me so happy. They spend time together and really get to know one another before taking it further.

And there’s been a lot of reviews hating on how they but seriously…if you love Ash you know he’s not gonna mess up anything with Danica. He won’t do her dirty. He finally knows what love is. So anything they are going to do they’ll do together.

They clearly talk about his bi-sexuality in this book. Danica is curious and he helps her understand what makes him tick. She’s no wilting flower either. She has needs and wants and many many questions. Any confusion, jealousy or concern she has is both honest and relatable in any relationship. It felt organic to their relationship. As Danica so eloquently says…
…how can you truly care about someone if you don’t know their whole heart?”
I’m skipping the other band members and going straight to the last book!!

ETA: So, I’ve just finished Flames and Flowers. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. That review to come.

Overall I liked it. I have felt so bad for Ash through all the Dirty books, and it was great see his HEA. However, the book was ridiculously long. It should have been half the length. I was also pretty ticked off at the epilogue. WTH was that? I might feel different if Matt’s book was next and we got some explanation soon, but nope! I enjoyed it though. Loved how much the Dirty family played into it as well.

Hmmm I was loving Ashley and Danica as a couple… until the epilogue. It’s like Ashley, regressed, maybe? I don’t know. Just felt like his waiting to tell Danica something important felt shady. He said he was going to be open and honest. But I wasn’t digging that ending and my rating reflects it.

I loved catching up with the Dirty characters & to find out more about the new band mates.

4.5 stars When I discovered that Ash was getting his own book, I was positively thrilled. I fell in love with this rocker when he was first introduced in this author’s Dirty series and my adoration towards him continued to grow with each scene and book he was written into. The poor playboy rocker was always falling in love, but never being loved in return or in the way that he deserved. I just knew what whoever he ended up with, male, female, or both, would be special, but I also knew it wouldn’t be an easy road either.

Ashley Player is literally a hot mess in the he is hot, gorgeous actually, and he is falling apart. He has survived multiple heartbreaks, the break up of his band, and is coping with it all with drinking and breakup parties (seriously, I love the idea of a breakup party). He is surly at times, but really, he is just someone who loves and needs to be loved equally in return. How could I not consider this bad boy to be one of my favorite rockers?

Danica is caring. Almost too caring according to her sister. She tends to put others before her to the extent that sometimes she puts them ahead of her own desires. That being said, I wouldn’t consider her a doormat or wilting flower and I love that she is so kind hearted - that she isn’t spoiled or self-absorbed. She truly wants to know and understand Ashley and she loves him with her entire being.

I found Hot Mess to be quite entertaining. It has a bit of humor - oh goodness the zipper incident and the tattoo! - and some very hot scenes between Ash and Danica. I really liked how this book wasn’t just about their relationship, but it also incorporated the formation of Ash’s Superband and what all went into it. It was also great seeing all of the band members and their significant others from Dirty. My only issue with the book was that it was rather long. I wouldn’t say there was any one particular part that dragged because it did move at a good pace, but I do feel like a lot more happened in the last third of the book and perhaps it could have been shorter.

Hot Mess is the first book in the Player series and it can, in theory, be read as a standalone - you will not be lost if you haven’t read this author’s other books. However, I do recommend reading the Dirty series first, especially Dirty Like Dylan to get the full experience. This rockstar romance fully lived up to my expectations which I had unintentionally set pretty high. Ash continues to remain as one of my favorite fictional rockstars and I am excited to see where this author takes us next. I received an early complimentary copy of this romance all thoughts are my own.

QUICK NOTE: Words cannot describe how thrilled I am/was to receive an ARC of Hot Mess by Jaine Diamond. I am a HUGE fan of the Dirty series and have been looking forward to Ash having his own story since at least the middle of that series. This guy loves so freaking hard that it was almost painful to see him get so invested/connected to the people in that series and then the other person went and got their own HEA, leaving Ash on the side. I am so happy that Jaine took her time with this book and made sure that Ash gets exactly what he deserves in a way that suits him perfectly!

Ashley Player is a rock star without a band, without a SO, and without a purpose. Basically, he is a Hot Mess. That is until his friend and ex-girlfriend Summer comes up with a great idea- they should form a super group with amazing and talented musicians and go after the world. This becomes his purpose and his focus until he sees HER. A case of mistaken identity and one of the sweetest (kind of naive) leading ladies that we have seen in this world is now front and center of Ash's world. He hasn't done sweet before, but maybe that was the problem....

All in all, I cannot give this book enough stars. It is ABSOLUTELY 5 outta 5 stars. If you read the Dirty series and you know all about our amazing main man here, you will completely fall in love with this book. If you haven't checked out the Dirty series (WTF is wrong with you?) I recommend you doing so before checking this out because it goes into a lot of details about the characters, but it is NOT required, it just made the story that much sweeter for me! I knew that there was a lot of heart behind this man, but nothing prepared me for all of the emotions I would feel reading this story- thank you Jaine Diamond for giving Ash the story that fits him perfectly! And HECK YES that this is just the start to an amazing new series with some super hot musicians-- bring it on!!

I was all set to give this book 4 stars. I loved Ashley and Danica and I was so happy Jaine gave them a HEA after she’d put Ash through. But then that epilogue. So I went and read Matt’s novella.

***Spoilers***

I was happy with just Ash and Danica and didn’t want them to turn into a throuple with Matt. I was already mad because I liked Ash with Dylan and Amber and Jaine demolished that. Then I got happy with Ash settling down with Danica. Now I’m supposed to believe that Danica just magically decided she was up for a poly relationship? And after such a big deal was made about not getting romantically involved with the other band members? Just no. Jaine has given me severe whiplash with characters I really liked and I’m just done. I like MFM and MMF books. I just don’t like the constant changing of minds and throwing me for a loop at the last minute. It makes everything feel disingenuous. No more of her books for me.

I loved Ash in the previous books and hated he kept getting his heart broken. So I really wanted a great relationship for him, an intense and special one. But Danica was just so nice. And boring. She let everyone walk all over her and never had any backbone. No sass, no feistiness, which I love in a main character. I guess I wanted more connection, and I never felt it between them. I still enjoyed it, until the epilogue. What the hell was that? This was just an ok book for me.

Not for me

I tried to like this book but it totally wasn’t for me and I ended up skipping through to see if the story got better. I even read ahead to the ending, which was weird and not a HEA.

Personally, I don’t read gay/bisexual romance. I like my heroes alpha male or at least very protective and definitely heterosexual. That’s not being prejudiced, it’s just what I enjoy reading when I read for escape.

For those who are into that type of romance, you might like this. My reason for the low rating is because the book description didn’t match the book. The hero doesn’t really want the girl, he wants some random guy who isn’t even part of the blurb. If you want to write in this genre, please clearly state it so potential readers know and can make an informed decision.

WOW!! Soooo I just finished hot mess! HOT!! Scorching HOT!! I absolutely loved this book. I have been a fan of Ashley Player through the books in the Dirty series and was so excited to receive an Arc for this book. I loved Ash’s story sooo much. I stayed up to 4 am to read this book and that is something I rarely do unless the book is one I just can not put down. Jaine you have outdone yourself again. I fell in love with Ashley even more throughout this book. He is the most damaged man who loves deeply, feels deeply and lives his life on his terms. He got everything he deserved in this book. Thanks for letting me read this and I have to stop now or else I will be spewing spoilers. Five huge stars for this book and I can not wait for the next book in the series!! ❤️

This book was just the best I've read since Jessie and Jude 'a books , which are my favourites . I love the characters from all the previous Dirty books appearing at various points in the story. You don't need to have read the other books as this can easily be read as a standalone. It just helps if you have as you understand a bit more of the back story.

What's not to love about Ash ? I like his chemistry with Danica it's sizzling and she's just the perfect girl for him. I loved her just as much.
I was hooked from the beginning of the book . I really didn't want to put it down once I'd started it. I can't wait to read the next one and see how the new band is developing. I can see this series being just as addictive as the Dirty books were

THIS IS A MUST READ... Raw and Steamy as Hell

Thank you Jaine Diamond for letting ARC ‘Hot Mess’ but this honest opinion of book.

Just Yummy..... OMG!!! this book is a panty dropper.
I have always loved Ashley Player from the ‘Dirty’ Series. He has always been that brooding mysterious bad boy, but this book shows so much more. Honestly be prepared to set urself up for Author Jaine Diamond, an amazingly written new series based round Ashley player Adventures. I know I can not wait to read the next book in ‘Players’ series.

It was a delicious read. Ashley Player has been unlucky in love and it is great to see him find someone who is devoted to him. I really have a soft spot for this character he appears in four books of The Dirty Series which I highly recommend reading prior to reading this so you can get in on all of Ash’s escapades. I was in the middle of another book that I was enjoying when I got a notice that I got an advanced copy of Hot Mess... I had to put it down because I couldn’t wait for this book. I was not disappointed! He is so sexy, vulnerable, and complex. I am always wanting more!

Years ago Ashley Player had a break up party and made out with a girl that he thought was his dream girl, he even got a tattoo of her name and asked her to marry him. She gave him a fake number though and disappeared and he hadn't seen her since. Now a few years later at another break up party he sees who he thinks is his dream girl outside a bodega buying roses but she once again runs off. The plot thickens when the girl he ran into at the bodega ends up being the identical twin sister of the girl he made out with. He sees her again and discovers all this a few days later when he shows up at her work.
Danica offers to give him a free consultation to decorate his apartment in the city and he schedules one with her. During that time both are attracted to each other despite the fact that in the beginning Ash tries to be an asshole to her. Danica insists on it being kept professional and Ash realizes he made out with the wrong sister. Danica is super nice and considerate towards him but has a problem hooking up with him because she knows her sister got to him first.
Eventually the two give into their feelings and then after he is no longer her client they start dating but Ash's old insecurities about not being enough may just get in the way, as well as Danica's ex-boyfriend Carter and her insecurities about him liking her sister.
This was a great book! I'm so glad Ash finally found someone who loved him for he was and put him first. Danica was the perfect nice, sweet girl for him. She was constantly doing nice things for him and by the end of the book was putting him before everyone else. I was happy that Ash and Summer were putting together the super group and can't wait to read about the other members of that group.

It was so great to read another book from Jaine, I loved her Dirty Series and judging by this first book the Player series is going to be just as good. Rockstar Ashley Player was a character in the Dirty series as a friend of the band Dirty. At the end of that series he had lost all the people he fell in love with and it seemed there was no HEA on the horizon for him.

But fate had other ideas for him. He had never forgotten a girl called Dani who he met at a ski resort in Alaska and in a night of drunkeness proposed to. She vanished after giving him a wrong number so he could never find her. Four years later while out partying with his friends he sees her outside a store and talks to her, but she vanishes again. He finally tracks her down and shows up at her office only to find that she is not the girl he met but her identical twin.

You have to feel sorry for the poor guy, he is so confused, he has been played by one sister and now he is wondering if the other sister will do the same. Danica on the other hand is totally entranced by Ashley and wants to know him better, but she is afraid that he really wants her more outgoing sister not her.

Jaine gives us a guy who is broken after being hurt so much. He has a hard time trusting anyone, but he knows deep down that Danica is different, and that she is not her sister, but he has to leave his past mistakes behind and Danica has to step out of her sister's shadow. I'm not sure that this was meant to be a slow burn romance(haha!) but after the incident with the zipper there was no choice! They had to take the time to bare their souls and trust each other before taking the next step. What a build-up to the main event! Wow that was scorching hot!

I can't wait for the next book in the new series because I need more about Ashley and Danica. Jaine is an amazing writer of rock romances. She writes about people who are really down to earth despite their fame, and I love that they are based in Vancouver so everywhere is familiar making the books even more entertaining for me.

If you love rock star romances get on board with the Dirty series and now the Player series. These stories give you such a great insight into the life of rockstars. Thanks Jaine for another amazing rock romance!

3.25 stars: rockstar mess

My relationship with Jaine Diamond is new and tentative. I read Dirty Like Me and really enjoyed it, then read Dirty Like Brody and wanted to throw myself into a vat of acid and not to come out as joker. I shiver to think about Elle and Seth's story - wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole -, and Dylan's just wasn't incentive enough. Now maybe Zane's tho.

So, Hot Mess... I liked it. Didn't love, but liked it.

What I liked:

- Ashley. He was great to read about. We get to know him better than Danica and that's fine with me, he was by far more interesting, had more depth to his person.

-Danica. I started thinking she was bit unseasoned but then she went and did one of the most touching declarations I've read recently I can't not love her.

"[...]I'm so drawn to you...I couldn't pretend not to want you to be anything different than what you are. I'm so excited, every day, to get to know you just a little bit more. I feel like I'll never fully understand you, in the very best way. That there'll always be so much more of you to discover and to love. There's just too much of you to love. I'm not leaving."

Damn, girl... who wouldn't love to hear this???

-The balance between mcs individual scenes and them together. I feel like I've read way too many books there are either too focused on the mc relationship or stuck on the internal dialogue and you barely see them interacting. Jaine made me feel like I knew them separetaly well just to make sense of how well they would work together.

-I do have to thank Jaine Diamond for killing the insta filter I put on rockstar life. My 30 yo tired ass can't even try to romanticize this lifestyle. Sounds exhausting, unhygienic and plain confusing. Can you imagine trying to manage this many relationships and relationship drama on top of one another? Its not for the introvert. Same for being bisexual. If Ashley's messy life is any indication I'll stop regretting being a boring straight.

What I didn't like:

-Dirty fanservice. To me, not a fan of the series, they just appeared too much.

-TMI. Poor Danica, even I felt like I knew too much of Ashley's sex life.

-Epilogue. Couldn't leave well alone, Jaine?

It does not get better than this. I swear I highlighted half the book, because it was giving me all the feels! I have been waiting for Ash's story since A Dirty Wedding Night. And it was SO worth the wait!

Ash begins this book, beautifully broken. He's swearing off love, refusing to be hurt again. And by the end, our Ash is whole - really for the first time since we've known him. ::heart eyes:: Ashley Player is a romantic, and I'm not sure he knew it! Watching him go from perpetual bachelor to a man who takes care of his woman gave me goosebumps.

Danica is such an amazing heroine. I found her extremely relatable, and found her saying things I would, and being as awkward as I am. She brings more humor and quirkiness to this book, and I adore it!! And MAN did she "get" Ashley. She was exactly the person needed to help begin the healing for Ash.

We also got a LOT more of DJ Summer in this book, which was also awesome! And if you've been looking forward to Jessa & Brody's wedding? YES! It's here!

The plot and character development were top notch, as usual. The supporting characters were all interesting and made you wonder where you'd see them in the future. The steamy scenes were hot and plentiful.

Favorite quote? "I'm missing a huge part of your heart. And how can you truly care about someone if you don't know their whole heart?"

If you haven't read Dirty Like Dylan, you really should read it first to get the most background on Ash, but you can totally read this first without being confused. You really should read the whole Dirty series first, though. ;) This is a love-at-first sight, mistaken identity, healing of a broken man, rockstar romance.

Ashley Finally Has His Story!!!

We’ve met Ashley in the Dirty series (which was outstanding in itself!!) and he sure has lived up to his name…Ashley Player. Now that his band has broken up and he’s has been on the losing end of many relationships that meant something to him he is again having his “break up” party. During the bender he runs into the girl that has earned herself a tattoo on his upper inner thigh…or so he thought.

Danica is the twin of the “tattoo girl” and Ashely swears there is something with this girl. It doesn’t stop him from pursing this beauty even if she isn’t the prior hookup. Danica is an interior designer who happens to not only be beautiful and talented she is also very kind. Ashley tells her upfront that he is never falling in love again and once she hears his track record that may not be a problem for Danica. Is she strong enough to accept Ashley for who he is?

As this relationship takes off Ashley is now pulling together a new band made up of stars in their own right. It’s nice to see that Ashley may actually be heading in the right direction. One rule he and bandmate and ex-girlfriend, Summer, made is that no one in the band gets together. Will this really ring true especially now that Matt has decided to join the band after pushing Ashley against a wall kissing him with everything he has? What about Danica?

I cannot wait to see what’s next in the Players’ series. Ms. Diamond’s books never miss a beat and are outstanding in the rock romance genre.

Ya'll this book was sooo worth the wait! Resident bad boy rocker Ashely Player and super sweet and overly nice girly girl Danica Vola may seem like complete opposites but believe me when I say that their chemistry together is off the charts H-O-T HOT! Throw in the mysterious "DANNY" tatoo, a twin sister and a bunch of exes and you'll find yourself not wanting to put this book down! This story not only allowed us readers to take a deeper look inside Ash's life, it also allowed us to see the early makings of his new band "The Players". Back to the important part though, Ash and Danica's love story (yes, I said LOVE) is absolutely perfect! These too, although different on paper, were made for each other. Ash is broken when It comes to life and love, feeling like a failure when it comes to both. Danica is a people pleaser who is trying to navigate through life with a twin sister and an ex whom she puts their feeling and wants before her own. Together Danica teaches Ash it's o.k. to be broken and that he deserves love while Ash brings Danica out of her shell and teaches her it's o.k. to put her own wants and feelings first sometimes without losing who she is. It's really a beautifully written story very fitting for Ash. Ash stole a piece of my heart in the Dirty series and I'm so glad he finally got his HEA. Ms. Diamond once again has hit it out of the ballpark and graced us with a HOT #1 read. I'm so excited for the other book to come in this series!

I love Ashley the most!

Kudos to Jaine for keeping him true to his sexuality - I was so afraid it would get swept under the rug! I'm not as forgiving as Ashley, as I still don't like Amber and Dylan after how they betrayed him in Dirty Like Dylan, and I still don't care about them as characters any more. Ash deserves EVERYTHING good and he seems to be getting there - I hope! Loved his story. I don't think it's quite over yet. He's got his woman, his new band and a HFN - as this series continues I hope we see his HEA.

Decent story

I’ve thought a lot about this and really struggled. I love to write a review but hate negative reviews because it puts me off reading a book.. I read this book as I LOVED the dirty series, but the ending just let me down.. i love a hea in a book but this one wasn’t for me. I read the Matt novella straight after before writing this review and I’m sorry but this isn’t my thing. If it was just left with Danica and Ash then it would of been a 5 star review from me, but it wasn’t.
