Bryan Davis is the author several speculative-fiction series, including Dragons in Our Midst, Oracles of Fire, Children of the Bard, Dragons of Camelot, The Reapers Trilogy, The Time Echoes Trilogy, Tales of Starlight, Dragons of Starlight, the Oculus Gate, Not So Famous Dog Tales, Astral Alliance, and Wanted: Superheroes.
Bryan and his wife, Susie, have homeschooled their four girls and three boys.
Bryan was born in 1958 and grew up in the eastern U.S. From the time he taught himself how to read before school age, through his seminary years and beyond, he has demonstrated a passion for the written word, reading and writing in many disciplines and genres, including fantasy, theology, fiction, devotionals, poetry, and humor.
Book three in the Echoes from the Edge series begins with Nathan and Cerulean exploring the dream world in search for Jack and Cerulean’s supplicant. But the dream world is a dangerous place for a human. Nathan finds Kelly there and is compelled to answer her pleas for help, despite Cerulean’s insistence that she is not the real Kelly. This sets the story into a non-stop adventure with our heroes moving back and forth between Red Earth, Blue Earth, Yellow Earth, the world between worlds, and the dream world. They have very little time to find Nathan’s father, find the real Kelly who got lost in the dream world, find Cerulean’s supplicant, and play the giant violin again before the three worlds are forever destroyed. Can Nathan do all this and remove the stone of judgment from his heart and truly love?
Wow. I have now read all three Echoes from the Edge books and my brain is still a bit sore. While they left me fully entertained in awe and wonder, I still don’t grasp how everything in this multi-dimensional fantasy world works. Were Patar and the supplicants angels and the others demons? Maybe they were beings of Davis’ own creation? Still, the imagery Davis created was beautiful and haunting. His characters each needed to face their own fears and trust that God would take care of them. This was the message I most enjoyed. That true love is more that a physical, emotional feeling. True love is sacrifice and forgiveness. They joy this kind of love brings to a life is music indeed. Recommended.
Unfortunately, this was probably my least favorite in the series. Now, don’t get me wrong; I loved it! But … not as much. The first book will always be my favorite.:)
This one, may I admit, had a different feel then the others. Well, it was actually a lot like the second one, but this one had a definite SCI-FI FEEL. YAY. I love sci-fi.
Nightmare’s Edge had a very lovely finish to the trilogy. There was lots of closure, and it was sweet and all.
Plot/Writing:
Ahhhh. Bryan. Davis. Books. Haha, you all knew that was coming!
Characters:
Nathan’s had a lot of character growth, and Kelly did, as well. It’s pretty cool to see.
And in this, you get to see that Nathan isn’t just a perfect little being (well, you can see it more so then the others), and that he has his own faults and humanly ways.
Daryl. Ahh!! She’s just brilliant!!!!
Problems:
There’s not exactly and problems with it, I just didn’t connect as well with it. But it was still brilliant!
Other/Summary:
Sorry, guys, that this was such a short and vague review! But I kinda forgot that I hadn’t reviewed this book, and I read it a few months ago … so, yeah.
Anyways, yes. This book has the same things as the others: mostly stuff about Kelly’s past (and her parents’, as well) would be the only thing to look out for.
I’d definitely recommend this trilogy to teenagers! Probably mid- and/or upper-teens.
In complete honesty, I liked the other books in this trilogy better, but I still enjoyed this one overall. On the low points, I felt this one dragged a bit, until the last one hundred pages or so, which seemed to absolute fly by. the other point was that I felt confused through parts of the book trying to remember features and events that had happened to the characters previously in the other two books.
Overall, the series is an incredible use of imagination and imagery. It takes you into a realm of reality that is different from anything a reader has experienced before, and then through out in bits and pieces, the reader is offered a deeper meaning to the entire story. It is creative and leaves one open to ask the right kinds of questions to learn about the ultimate adventure.
I definitely suggest reading the series in order. If you attempt to just read this book, you will be quite lost.
A great conclusion to an interesting series. Another world is thrown into the mix. This time it's the world of dreams. Literally, the place you go when you sleep. As the Three Earths come closer and closer to colliding Nathan most travel through the dream world in hopes of finding his Father.
The Story is non stop action except for a little portion where Nathan is beating himself up over something I don't think he ever did. Apparently, he somehow made Kelly feel unworthy of his love. But I didn't get that. Throughout the whole Cycle Nathan has never shown Kelly anything other than complete and unfailing love.
Any questions that really matter are answered well enough. Any Questions left over are really just nit picking I guess.
Because I read the third book first it took me a bit to get into the story, but once I did I was hooked! Action from beginning to end with strong Christian themes and great messages! It deserves a read!
Great series! Loved the way he finished it off. I wouldn't change a thing! Only, maybe I would let Bryan Davis know that sometimes he describes too much of the action parts of this book series. I don't need to know every single bit of emotion and movement and pain felt aches each and every character experiences throughout the story! It becomes a drag. I would sum it up more, if I were him. Action is great! Don't get me wrong, however, it can become a bore. Very nicely wrapped up.
This was the third in the series and absolutely wonderful. If you like science-fiction/fantasy, the trilogy is terrific and the characters are fascinating. You have to keep track of the different versions of the same characters because there are 3 versions of each at different stages in time, which is challenging, but fun.
AMAZING - a fantastic finale! One of those books that makes me wonder if we'll meet fictional characters in heaven someday. A powerful story about love, courage, grace, and sacrifice. Despite the still-somewhat-confusing physics involved, I loved the whole trilogy! Really amazing. And Nightmare's Edge was a good ending!
I really liked Nightmare's Edge! A great ending to the series, full of action, drama, faith and even a little bit of romance. The only problem I did have was with the supplicants and the whole "my beloved" thing. I understand what they explained and all, but it just seemed a bit... homosexual at times.
This series is one of the best series that I've listened to on audiobook EVER! Lots of suspense, and I find it cool that they use music as one of the main forms of communication. A lot of the different musical terms that were and are used in the story are ones that I know from my piano lessons! This story is very intense. If you like suspense stories, this is for you.
