The Aces #2

Adversary

Rate this book
Damsel in distress? Not anymore.

Hey b*tches, me again- Kiera, a.k.a The Cat. You remember those f*cking bastards over in the Alloy Kings MC?

No? Well, let me give you a little recap.

I was going about, minding my own damned business, when the bastards decided to hit The Aces MC—my newest allies—where it hurt the most. Some sh*t went down, and now here we are facing a long, hard battle. Yes, that innuendo was totally intended. Anyway! With my four sexy as f*ck men at my back, we not only have the other motorcycle gang to deal with but now my past and all the hell that comes with it has decided to come to play. Fun, right? Wrong. We’re officially starting our move against two of my most hated enemies and their merry mob of minions. Can we stick together long enough to handle three major players, or will we crumble under the pressure?

But I’m not the thief who became famous at 15 years old and survived the mob’s hell in my past just to lay down and let us fall apart when the going gets tough.

Our adversaries won’t know what hit them.

I’m The Cat, and soon enough, they’ll learn that I’m not alone.

Ok, so here's the thing about this book, it's not a bad book but it's not exactly great either. I am not enjoying how the story is developing and it doesn't feel like she has the time or equal feelings with all the men. it feels very lob sided which makes me sad. I don't feel Keira or any of them have really had any character development and now even the sexy scenes are a bit boring. While I don't mind suspending reality (that is why I read after all) I just feel like it's a little too far fetched for me. I am going to read the final book but I definitely won't be going on to see the next trilogy about this bunch. The high light of all of this for me is Chase, I adore the man to bits and just want more of him.
This is my honest and unbiased review.

Adversary is a gush-worthy follow-up for Rival, the first in Macey's MC RH series. This second installment digs deeper into the hostility between Kiera and her father, Frankie 'Smokes', as well as the ongoing storyline of creepy Jace and what lengths he might go to in order to get Kiera under his thumb. Frankly, I think Jace doesn't realize that he's trying to bite off much more than he can chew, but it's okay. I'll just laugh when she cuts his balls off instead of just kicking them, next time.

There are also some new characters showing up who might be friends or ultimately foes. Not sure yet, since they could honestly go either way. I think Kiera and the guys are smart enough to make these new interlopers into a tool to be used, but I suppose we'll see!

Kiera is still fierce and fiesty, and she's taking some big risks in opening herself up to rely on other people beside just herself and Chase. It's fun watching the guys run in circles because they're finally sharing themselves with a woman who doesn't take any of their sh*t. Chase still remains my favorite- not because he's the easiest for Kiera to get along with, but because the mix of crazy whimsy & underlying darkness is most intriguing to me, and he's the one I'd most like to spend the day watching. Speaking of his darkness...there's a fun twist that promises to add some more steam to the next book as well as some more ball breaking the other guys' ways.

Stone, Garrett, and Brooks are all still delightfully delicious in their own ways, but I did get pretty annoyed with them at times. However, this was in a good way despite how weird that sounds. I was mad at them when I was supposed to be mad at them, so, to me, that means Macey is playing her cards (and her readers) very well.

Overall, the story is continuing well, and the action is easy to follow and lacks fluff. We get what we need, and it's still blended in with a mix of what we want: some action, some steamy s*xy times, some relationship drama, some twists, and an ending that will definitely have you wondering what will happen next. Don't worry, though. Macey is VERY nice to us and gives us the first chapter of Enemy to make up for playing with our hearts.

Get ready, we all know Kiera's going to have those claws out in book three.

A fantastic second book for the series. It's definitely a new type of book for me, since I had never read anything biker related before this series. I only gave it a chance because I had been enjoying everything else by this author, and I'm glad I did!

Chase is still my favorite, especially with the new information we learn about him in this book. His crazy is just too much fun! Garrett is my second favorite, Stone is kind of irritating at this point, and Brooks is kind of meh. He's really just there and not as interesting (to me, at least.)

But after that ending, I'm kind of unsure how I feel about any of them except for Chase.

I look forward to the next book, though! I like how this series has so much action, and the romantic relationships seem to develop nicely (even though Stone is annoying and Brooks is meh). (IMO).

Violence, Rage and Thievery

This is not an easy or comfortable read, there is plenty of violence and rage and there is discussion of child abuse. If these things cause you anxiety, please don’t read this book.

Despite being an uncomfortable read in places, this book is gripping. The wonderfully flawed and difficult characters interact in a way that captivates me. I don’t want to like them because they are so angry and have a violent response to most things, but I can’t help feeling empathy for them as more of their history and back story is revealed. It becomes obvious why they behave in the way that they do, especially Keira.

In this book we see Keira and Chase becoming more involved in the activities at the Aces MC, despite the distrust and dislike of many of the patched members. Boss, however, has a firm handle on his club and we see him in all his presidential glory, as opposed to his normal easy going and affable self.

As the group become more involved they all practically move in together as they start to explore the possibility of a committed relationship. However, people seem to keep turning up uninvited and causing problems.

I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series, even if I have to wait a few more weeks to read it.

I'm realizing that A.J. Macey can really do no wrong as far as her books are concerned, because I've loved every single one I've ever picked up. So many contemporary romances are predictable and comfy, but Macey has a knack for taking that idea and spinning it on its head.

Here's the thing. Typically, when a writer creates a badass female character, she's a bitch in the worst kind of way and she's TOO girl power "I don't need no man," and I end up really not relating to her because she's alienating and the guys she attracts are wimpy and annoying. Kiera, however, is the most incredible of badass chicks in that she knows who she is, she owns it, and she surrounds herself with guys who respect her and appreciate her badass nature, but still challenge her. This book is full of drama, twists, creeps, and brilliant one-liners, and I couldn't inhale it fast enough. Kiera is sharp as a tack and hilarious, the boys are just as funny and dangerous as ever, and I can't wait for the book 3.

Kiera aka The Cat, her little assassin - Chase and The Aces - Brooks, Stone and Garrett are still trying to bring down their enemies. The Alloy Kings and anyone else that gets in their way. Book 2 continues in the same action-packed, kick-a** way the first book started and hot damn it doesn't let up even after that cliffhanger ending!!! So good i cant take it! The taster made up for it slightly, lol. Still bloody hell it made me dying to find out whats gonna happen next? Fan-f**king-tastic! That's all i can say

Revenge, stake-outs and steamy sweetness

Oh Brook! Oh no no no...You fool.

Our girl is back and at a time she needs her guys most, Brooks destroys it because he is always thinking the worst!

I thought book 1 was action-packed, but book 2 is where it is at! We get to know more about Kiera's secrets and what her dad did to her when she was little. They finally go into action and put their rival MC Club out of businesss...I'm pretty sure. Now the only threat is Frankie, Jace and all they stand for. Can this relationship hold while under crossfire? Can Kiera rely on her men by her side or will they ruin it?

This series is awesome. I'm still craving more character development. It seems more insta-lust/love to me more than anything. Not that Im complaining, but it would still be nice to have more relationship. I'm ready to dive into book 3!

*Overall 4/5
*Heat? 4/5
*No triggers
*First person POV
*Ends on cliffhanger

This trilogy has layers.

I have to say I love meeting Cira in this book. I knew there was something about Chase that was slightly odd. However Kiera continues to impress me with her fiery personality. The guys disappointed me by only seeing one side of a situation. However, Kiera didn’t give them a chance to think clearly before she fled. They have to grovel hard to fix this. TW/18+ 4.25/stars

great read!

So this one I felt was a little slower of a read for me but it was still great! I wish the relationships would have grown more but as I reached the end everything made more sense. I am excited for the final book in the trilogy! I’m just saying Chase and Ciar are all she needs

A.J. Macey did it again!🔥

Once again, A.J. about lit my Kindle on fire!!

Keira and the guys are back and at it again! Kicking ass and taking names, y’all.

I was a little bit worried that there was no way this book could live up to the first. Thank goodness, she did not disappoint! This book was phenomenal. From the very first page, I couldn’t put it down. I had this book finished within a few hours.

From the characters, to the story & world building, and even the transitions it was seamless. There was even more depth to the story which led me to even more curiosity to Keira and the guys’ pasts. Although, A.J. does answer some of that curiosity, it just seemed to stoke it higher.

There were PLENTY of steamy scenes, and some I am still holding out for! (If you’re reading this A.J. Pleaaaase some M/M and Group scenes, girl! You’re killing me over here!)

The ending of the book was fantastic, and I had SO MANY things to say about it. Luckily, A.J. helps tide us all over with the first chapter to book 3!

Needless to say, if you haven’t read this book yet, READ IT RIGHT NOW! If you haven’t started this series yet, what are you doing?!

you WILL NOT be disappointed.
It truly is amazing, it’s a 5 star read all the way around!

This was everything I knew book 2 would be and more! I absolutely love Kiera and her men and have been not so patiently waiting for Adversary to come out! Let me tell you it did not disappoint and if possible I am even more pumped for book 3. Kiera is still a fiesty kick
a$$ fmc, and her men... oh man just when I think I can't swoon more I do! I don't want to give anything away, but there is a little addition in this book that was amazing and can not wait to see more of. There is lots of action and excitement as well as sexy times! There were times I wanted to strangle some characters and the cliffhanger will have you reeling! This book has everything you could possibly want from a MC based romance and then lots of extras that make it truly original and top notch! Don't hesitate! Grab this book now and you won't be disappointed!!

Kiera is battling a lot of demons which makes how strong she acts even more impressive. She's a great female lead - smart, strong, able to put emotions aside but not utterly ruthless.

I was hoping for a bit more of Jace but it was enough. Definitely upping the creep factor.

I don't want to give away any spoilers but we meet a new character that I may love just as much as Chase 😂

So. Good. Ugh!

I love Keira and Chase and the other guys kinda...to be honest the MC members really ticked me off towards the end of this book, but Garrett, one of my faves was the worst disappointment of all. So yeah thus book has all the highs and lows and I adore it! If you haven't started this series you're seriously missing out.

Omg where to start with this series. A strong strong, sassy, feisty, badbutt female lead. Is she maybe over the top, Yes but in the best, best possible way. I am a huge simp for females who don't need anybody but themselves. We also know I'm an even bigger sucker for psychopaths. We have an assassin in this book, that kept me laughing out loud the entire book. I fell for him head over heels. Then add three alpha bikers, one which happens to be her stepbrother and we have my dream book series. This series is steamy, action packed, with betrayal, amazing reveals, trauma & murder. You will never get bored with this series but you have to have an open mind to the impossible and really let this book take over. Keira needs her revenge and will have you fuming mad for her to get it. This is definitely fast burn and steamy, steamy, steamy. Everything happens for a reason, each book you get deeper and deeper. Relationships get stronger, get tested and things really build. I absolutely love this series. I don't want to say to much because I always believe going in blind is the best way to experience a book. ❤️😘

WTF

I agree with Ciar. They aren’t men they’re little boys. You’ll know when you read the ending.

Anyways aside from that.

I loved this book. It captivated me and I couldn’t put it down.

I love Kiera she’s such a fierce bada** warrior and ugh you just can’t help but want her as your bestie.

I love Chase. He’s always there for her in any and all capacity.

I love the other three as well but they messed up. Especially Garrett.

I can’t wait to see how this chapter of their lives end.

Here is the thing, I was interested in the first book and in this second installment things weee rather intense, so much was happening at the same time that the relationships kind of wend on the sidelines. I still think that there is one that stands out among the rest and I love the deadly ex assassin to bits. With G. there is definitely history, but with Brooks and Stone the connection is not really developing for me. Of course, there is plenty of lust taking place, but I just thought that by now things would have developed on the emotional forefront as well.

This gets three stars because of the ending. Like seriously. I’m supposed to believe that those three idiots believe that Kiera would betray them that way? SERIOUSLY????!!!! Like no. Just no. That’s just a whole lot of BS is my book. I thought about giving it two stars because that ending is terrible. It makes no fricking sense. None. Zip. Zero. So little sense at all. I’m just completely disappointed. My enthusiasm for reading the last book has waned. Like no. This is not how it should go. Soooooo disappointed

Intense

This series is getting more intense with every chapter. I love the diversity in the different characters and how they work together. We learn some major things in this book and everything is building up to that finale. The different POV really make it possible for me to be in the head of certain characters and that ending had me reeling. Boy, am I angry at those men. We're going to need some major grovelling!

Holy Hotness

Kiera is such a fun spunky character and with her ride or die Chase her life is never dull. He is the 1 man to see her in all her glory and devastation. She is finally enjoying her MC's and their life style but things get complicated fast. She is even realizing how much Brooks, Garret, and Stone mean to her. Can her 3 Mc's truly love her like Chase does? Or will they let her down and break her heart.

okay?????

Can’t believe the reason for not trusting the Cat by MC officers. Garrett was there when Cat interrogated the accountant before and She did mention that she would contact me if we need any info so why that would course such a drift. There is no depth n the plots or preparation for retribution. Everything was shallow even the MC characterisation is shallow. Skipped pages and read it in half an hour. That’s all

Adversary

Lots of action in this one. Poor Kiera stayed bruised from her near mishaps with that bastard Jace. Chase is still my number one guy, well, Ciar as well. Everything was great until the guys all doubted Kiera🤦‍♀️ with the flip of a switch. That sh!+ came out of the left field. Their reaction was completely out of character. But good for Kiera not putting up with it. They better be prepared to grovel.

I am enjoying this series.
Kiera is super interesting to me and I’m very invested in the takedown of her father.
But the guys. 🤣

Did not hold my interest i got bored. I am not going to be finishing the series after this book i just got disinterested. The guys were not unique enough from one another other than Chase but little assassin for a grown man made me gag. Calling a man little anything just is not cute. She got boring and predictable and only had a trusting loyal relationship with Chase. Others are subpar relationships

Love Kiera. I get all her trauma and her walls. Woof. Can’t wait to see her bloody revenge.

Chase. Ugh where even to start with him?? Love a sexy, softy assassin with an alter ego Ciar. Honestly those 2 are soul mates if I’ve ever read about them. So authentic and so real. 💋
Garrett- I want to throttle and strangle him. He redeems himself with the Ladder but ugh.what a dick.
Brooks- yup still love him and his sexy Pres ass.
Stone- yeah on the fence..
