A lovely guide! Emotionfull has a very good collection of ways to help your mental health. Unfortunately, I know most advice through years of therapy so I'd recommend this more for people who are more inexperienced
Disclaimer: I’m a trained mental health therapist.
I’m impressed with this book! When the author stated she was twenty in Intro, my youth bias immediately set in. After acknowledging that, I read the book with an open mind.
PROS: This book covers many topics and tools that I’ve used in therapy. Lauren provides clear examples, actionable steps, and insight from her own mental health struggles. The disclosure of her own mental health struggles gives her more credibility and increases the chance the reader will identify with her.
Discusses solutions and action steps. Chapter 9-When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed, very well done and should be helpful to anyone struggling with anxiety or pandemic life.
CONS: The book font. A cleaner serif or sans serif should’ve been used. The font detracts from the content IMO. The font is not the best choice for a self help book.
Overall, this therapist is impressed. This book would make a great supplement to therapy. Love all of the actionable tools. Buy it.
A beautiful, soft but powerful book that will comfort and support so many readers. Lauren Woods has started with her own experiences but built so far from there; she learns by building community with others because she's so eager to share anything that has helped her in her own mental wellbeing, and this book is the product of all that learning. Like a kind friend offering a warm mug of tea and a supportive ear, Emotionfull provides a safe, validating space for anyone struggling with their mental health to gather some resources in their journey to a happier relationship with their brain.
This is a fantastic book to get you started learning about mental health for yourself or others!! There are tons of great tips and resources in these pages and Lauren has done an amazing job making everything accessible, understandable, and relatable. I especially love that it’s very easy to read a short section at a time and still get through the book quickly. OR that you can choose a topic that feels relevant in the moment to you and just read that piece. I just loved this and will be recommending it to all my clients. 💖
This is such a cute and helpful book that addresses multiple different types of emotions from anxiety to overwhelm. Highly recommend this book to anyone who needs immediate help with their emotions ... but often times has no one to talk to directly. The author gives useful strategies and exercises to execute to take care of our emotions.
