An imaginative, emotional debut novel for fans of Ann Patchett about one woman's fight to save her daughter from repeating a deadly fate.

What if you had one chance to save someone you lost?

Isolated in the aftermath of tragedy, Erin Fullarton has felt barely alive since the loss of her young daughter, Korrie. She tries to mark the milestones her therapist suggests--like today, the 500th day without Korri--but moving through grief is like swimming against a dark current.

Her estranged husband, Zac, a brilliant astrophysicist, seems to be coping better. Lost in his work, he's perfecting his model of a stunning cosmological phenomenon, one he predicts will occur today--an event so rare, it keeps him from being able to acknowledge Erin's coinciding milestone.

But when Erin receives a phone call from her daughter's school, the same call she received five hundred days earlier when Korrie was still alive, Erin realizes something is happening. Or happening again. Struggling to understand the sudden shifts in time, she pieces together that the phenomenon Zac is tracking may have presented her with the gift of a lifetime: the chance to save her daughter.

Unable to reach Zac or convince the authorities of what is happening, Erin is forced to find the answer on her own, Erin must battle to keep the past from repeating--or risk losing her daughter for good.

Although I am a fan of realistic fiction, I am always drawn to alternate realities or time travel. ALso vampires but that has no bearing on this book LOL

I was immediately drawn to this story which centered around one moms attempt to save the daughter she lost 500 days ago.

This was an entertaining read and I enjoyed the chapters focused on Erin and her quest to save her child. I could feel her desperation and despair. I thought the chapters centered around astrophysics were too technical and scientific for my taste and would have preferred a more "dumbed down" version but I appreciate the author's attempt at covering the complex subject.

Overall a great debut and I will read more by this author.

Thank you Alcove Press and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

Erin Fullarton is doing her best just to survive day-to-day. Eighteen months earlier, her only child, 6-year-old Korrie was killed, and Erin has struggled ever since to move forward. Her marriage is in a shambles, with her husband recently moving out to give her the time and space she needs to recover. As she tries to gird herself to face this, the 500th day since Korrie’s death, Erin receives a phone call from Korrie’s school, saying that Korrie has a fever and will Erin please come pick her up. Erin soon realizes she’s shifting back and forth between present time and 500 days ago, “The Day Of”. In a race against time, Erin strives to see if she can change the events of that fateful day.

A wild ride full of “what if’s” and quantum physics, I was completely engaged as I rushed to the end in just two evenings after work. One finds it hard to believe this is Ms. Hope’s first novel. Bravo!

Erin Fullarton may just have that opportunity to save her daughter Korrie’s life. ⁣

Since the tragic death of her daughter 500 days ago, Erin has been living an empty life full of grief. Erin is estranged now more than ever to her husband Zac - as he loses himself more and more in his work as an astrophysicist, and is about to make a phenomenal breakthrough. ⁣

Erin receives the same call she received the last day Korrie was alive a year and a half ago. This changes everything as Erin discovers that this may be her chance to make everything right in her world and bring her daughter back.

This debut novel was written so beautifully. The writing of Erin’s character really resonated with me as I read this book. As a mother myself, the grief, loss and emptiness that Erin felt through her despair and desperation was so well written. When Erin was given a sliver of hope, a chance to bring her daughter back, this really tore me apart. This story was suspenseful and thrilling, that captured my attention. Written so beautifully with an emotional and creative plot, I really enjoyed reading this amazing novel. ⁣

Fantastic!⁣

WOW!!! Catherine Wallace Hope, the author of "Once Again" has written an intriguing, captivating, suspenseful, and edgy novel. The genres are Science Fiction and Time Travel. The timeline for this story is mostly set in 2020, or 2021 and goes back to the past when it pertains to the characters or events, or black holes, waves, or white holes in time travel. The author describes her dramatic cast of characters as complex, and complicated.

Erin Fullerton seems likes an empty shell of herself after a tragedy. Erin's husband Zac immerses himself in his work as an astrophysicist. Erin's therapist has advised her to put a timeframe to mark the milestones for the event. It is the 500th day since the loss of their young daughter Korrie. It is also a significant day for Zac in his work, where he predicts something phenomenal will happen.

Erin constantly replays and ruminates about the day that she lost her daughter Korrie. She wonders this summer day 500 days later what she could have done differently. In a flash, it is now winter and snowing, and the phone is ringing from the school Korrie was in.

There are twists and turns, unpredictable changes, and phenomenal action. This gives me the feel of the movies "Back to the Future", wherein some scenes you just have to get it right, or else. It also has the 'taste" of Groundhog's Day. I would highly recommend this page-turning novel to readers.

A fast paced novel that I couldn’t put down. Iclov d the idea of this book and the parallel between what was happening to Erin in line with sacs work. Erins story was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the comparison of the days between the two main characters but I would have liked a little less science and more description of what the science meant in reality. Having said this I would recommend this as a good read

Totally fascinating and engaging! Read most of it in one sitting because once I got into the heart of the story, I HAD to find out how it would all unfold. The physics of it made my head spin, in a good way. I enjoyed thinking about the possibilities of the universe and time and the ripples of our personal choices, all while immersed in Erin’s heartfelt journey. LOVED how Wallace Hope ended it. One of the most unique novels I’ve read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ONCE AGAIN has a fascinating and imaginative premise. Five hundred days ago Erin’s daughter was taken by an abductor from her school and Erin Fullarton is still drowning in grief, barely making it through each day. But suddenly, instead of being June outside, it’s snowing, and she slowly realizes she’s been plunged back to winter almost 18 months ago – the very day of her daughter’s abduction.

However this is no Groundhog Day concept where time simply unfurls forward again. Instead time is skipping - going forward, and backward, in what seem like random increments.

Erin doesn’t understand how or why she’s landing at certain points during the same day, but only one thing matters: she has a second chance to save her daughter Korrie. Of course, no-one believes her about what’s happening. Which means she’s on her own to try and prevent her daughter being abducted, abused and killed - ONCE AGAIN.

There’s an almost sci-fi like scientific explanation for what’s happening to time (which is rather fascinating), but the core of the story is Erin’s fight to reach Korrie- when time itself isn’t stable or predictable. The novel is well-written, fast paced, and it kept me immersed and engaged.

One last note: a trigger warning if the mention or hint at abuse is too close to home for you (nothing on screen but we see the abductor’s point of view on how he views the child/ children in general at several moments).

If you have ever had a child or loved a child, then buy the book and carve out some time to read it because this story will wrap you up and not let you go. The story is a fascinating blend of moments that are deeply relatable, intriguing, infuriating, wildly curious, immensely disturbing, and overall the kind of book that makes you realize that it may have been at least a half hour ago since you last breathed.

If this is Catherine’s nascent first-published-novel, I cannot wait to see what is next in store!

Once Again is a captivating debut novel from Catherine Wallace Hope that I really enjoyed.
What if you could go back in time to correct a devastating life altering event?

Erin lost her 6 year old daughter Korrie 500 days ago. It's been 18 months and she is understandably still grieving. That's the thing about grief, it is fluid, not static. The story alternates between two timelines starting June 20, 2021 and ending with June 20, 2020. A reverse storytelling if you will and that alternating timeline was brilliant.

Erin's husband Zac is a astrophysicist that has been working on a special project which sets the course of events that gave Erin another chance to go back in time.

This story has components of time travel, magical realism, sci-fi and so much more.

I couldn't put this book down, it was that good! I really was guessing until the very end. It was like a movie that played out in my head as the time was ticking down on the timeline.

The characters were expertly written and the topic of grief especially the grief of a mother losing a daughter was complex and well developed.

I highly recommend this book!

Once Again is a page-turner of a book about a woman crushed by the loss of her child in the worst way a parent can imagine--who is suddenly given what seems, against all knowledge of reality, a chance to go back and change the past.

Erin is married to a physicist who is studying a black-hole convergence which he believes will reveal truths about time. He doesn't know how right he is. Erin gets caught in the waves, which give her a chance to change the events of one fateful day.

I did not follow the science, but I never do (that's not my gift! Ha!). I was totally willing to go with it; Erin's struggle to save her child is gripping at every level, and Zac's humanity shone through. I devoured the book in just a couple of days. I loved watching how the various actions rippled forward through time--and resolved in a deeply satisfying way. One thing to be aware of for those who might be triggered is child abduction.

What a creative and inventive debut novel!
I was immediately pulled into the story and could not stop turning pages to find out what would happen.
Erin Fullarton is devastated by the death of her young daughter Korrie.
Her therapist suggest she mark the milestones, today is her 500th day without Korrie.
Zac, her estranged husband handles his grief by burying himself in his work. An astrophysicist with an important experimental event that keeps him out of touch the entire day.
When Erin receives the same phone call from her daughter's school that she got the day Korrie died, she understands that something strange is happening. Time seems to be shifting, giving her a chance to go back and save her daughter.
This sci-fi, time travel mystery was captivating and heartbreaking. Full of action and twists.
The characters were realistic and engaging.
I didn't understand all the science, but it didn't detract from the story.
A very extraordinary and emotional read.

I loved how the different days were compared for the main characters. It was an interesting take on the timeframe.

About a year and a half ago, Erin’s 6 year old daughter was killed. Then all of a sudden Erin gets a phone call that her daughter has a fever and needs to be picked up. Erin realizes she’s being given a chance to prevent Korrie’s death from happening.

At times the book was a little too technical for me, but overall I truly enjoyed and highly recommend this book. The writing flowed well, and it kept my attention.

Erin Fullarton continues to grieve the death of her six-year-old daughter Korrie. Erin and her husband, Zac have handle their grieve in entirely different ways. While he has thrown himself into his work as an astrophysicist, she finds it hard to stop looking at the past. At the urging of her therapist's, this story begins with her marking the 500th day since Korrie's passing. While she wishes Zac could be with her to mark the occasion, he cannot as he is working on something very important. When Erin receives the same phone call from Korrie's school as she did on that fateful day, she realizes she has gone back in time. This is the story of one mother's attempt keep the past from repeating itself.

To be a hundred percent honest, I struggled to get through this book. While the story is jammed pack with action, and the concept of blending different genres is great, I found the alternating time periods hard to follow. Not only that, but the scientific aspect of this book was very in depth, and while integral to the story, I felt it was a bit too technical. There were also a few side stories and points of view I didn't find served a purpose in this story. I do give Catherine Wallace Hope huge credit for writing a very creative and imaginative debut novel.

When I originally picked up Once Again I wasn't aware the story would centre around the time travel aspect, and I continually struggle with these books. However, if you love imaginative fiction, stories centering on time travel, and/or science-fiction than pick this one up, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this debut novel.

Content Warnings: death, grief, child loss, child abduction, murder, drug use, mention of overdose, mention of rape and child molestation

This was a great thriller, and though it deals with some heavy subject matter (child abduction specifically), it's done well. The pacing never once lets up (except for the somewhat convoluted science bits, but I'm willing to concede they merely went over my head) but overall, well done. The story was emotional, engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. If you like fast-paced thrillers with high stakes and characters to root for, then you'll love this one. The author's use of description is beautiful, and she also does a stellar job of conveying grief, loss, and heartache in a believable and gut-wrenching way. Also, as a side note, the action scenes in this book were top-tier, and I thoroughly enjoyed them and the author's concise and descriptive writing style. I would definitely pick up another book from this author in the future!

Kudos to Catherine Wallace Hope for writing the most unique and creative book this year! I feel like everything has been so repetitive lately and Once Again was not. I liked this novel, for the most part, specifically Erin's chapters. But Zac's chapters just seemed to never end and really affected my overall feelings about the book. I understand that the scientific stuff was important in regard to the overall plot, but it was so detailed that it became tedious to read.

Besides Zac's chapters, this was an entertaining and action-packed read.

I'm fairly certain that everybody makes mistakes throughout their lifetime.  That no matter what your social standing is, be you rich or poor, or what your sexual orientation is, age or the colour of your skin, you are bound to make a mistake or three. I know I have, it's one of the many parts of our human make-up. Some mistakes are small and have no repercussions whilst others have far reaching consequences that affect not just the person who made the mistake but also others. Some mistakes can have lasting effects on someone's mental health resulting in feelings of guilt, remorse, regret and self blame. I'm sure many people have had moments when they have wished that they could go back in time and rectify some of their mistakes, I know I have but if I was given the opportunity to do so, I don't think I would want too. I have watched enough Sci-fi on television to know that messing around with the past can have a detrimental effect on the future and that playing around with the space/time continuum is not a very good idea.

The chapters of this gripping story mainly alternate between Erin and Zac and are set in three time frames 2020,2021 and 2022. Erin and Zac's marriage  fell apart after their six year old daughter Korrie was abducted from school and murdered. Five hundred days later, Erin has sunk into a deep depression and can't shake off her feelings of guilt and regret, the if only that keep running around her brain. Whilst Zac has thrown all his time nd energy into his latest ground breaking experiment. Then Erin suddenly receives a startling phone call from Korrie's school, the season's begin alternating between summer and winter and Erin gradually begins to wonder that by some miracle she has the opportunity to change time and rescue her beloved daughter before she is murdered. Erin's chapters were intense, gripping, had some heroine in danger moments and were my favourite parts of the story. Erin was a intelligent, feisty mumma bear who was determined to do everything in her power to get the opportunity to hold her daughter in her arms again.

I will be honest and admit that I struggled with all the science informatio during Zac's chapters. The information about black and white holes was fascinating and informative but it was all a bit out of my poor brains league at times. I did enjoy the banter between Zac and his work colleagues Mark and Jon but I most definitely didn't like their boss walter. Interspersed throughout the story was chapters that were voiced from the perspectives of Tom Drake who was one of the officers who investigated Korrie's abduction and also from the killer himself. The killer was a very unlikable individual and some of his thoughts were shockingly realistic and made uncomfortable reading at times.

This is a cleverly written, unique blend of thriller, science and sci-fi that had two different endings, a this is what did and could have happened scenario. The cast of characters were a mixed bag of diverse, realistic individuals and some of the settings were beautifully and vividly described. I did enjoy reading this slick, intelligent debut and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.

I am struggling to write this review because I really don’t know what to say. It was one of those books that was so gripping, unique and powerful that I’m still trying to process my feelings. So…. I am just going to make this easy. This book is amazing. You have to read it, I’ve never read anything like it.

It’s about Erin Fullarton, who is trying to come to terms with the loss of her daughter, 6 year old Korrie. Estranged from her scientist husband, she takes every day the best she can, but she can’t get over the loss of Korrie and the mistakes she made on that fateful day her daughter went missing.
In the meantime…side story…Zac, Erin’s husband is a brilliant astrophysicist, perfecting a model of a cosmological phenomenon that will effect time. A project that just happens to be occurring today, on the 500th day since Korrie went missing. (Do you see where this is going?)
Oddly, when Erin receives a phone call from the school, exactly like the one she received when Korrie disappeared, and time starts to flash back to that fateful day, Erin realizes that this may be related to the project Zac is working on, and she may have been given a chance to change her daughters fate. Unable to reach Zac, Erin decides to deal with this anomaly on her own to keep the past from repeating itself.

Ok so don’t let the science fool you. This is not a sci-fi kind of book, there is just some science incorporated into it to make this brilliant idea come to life. If you’ve ever wanted to go back and change the past, Catherine Wallace Hope has written an ingenious book that gives you a glimpse of what that experience might entail, and the challenges and decision making involved. It’s a suspenseful family life drama, that kept me up all night, and made my emotions run amok. I loved it. I was so engrossed I read it in one sitting. I almost wish I could read it over again just to re-experience the anticipation of turning every page to reach the conclusion. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it. It’s not like any domestic/family life fiction you’ve ever read before.

I just would like to thank Catherine Wallace Hope,  Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours and Alcove Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Once Again by Catharine Wallace Hope
Available NOW!

This book was quite different than your typical thriller and I absolutely enjoyed it. Fast paced and action packed I was glued to this book from start to finish.

Ellen Fullarton lost her daughter, Korrie who was only 6 years old, 18 months ago. Ellen is doing her best just to hold it together. There is really nothing that can ease the pain of losing a child. She and her husband Zac an astrophysicist have separated in an attempt to save their marriage. As the book begins, Ellen is gathering all the strength she can muster to face the 500th day since Korrie died. The phone rings, it is Korrie’s school, calling to say Korrie has a fever and they need Ellen to come pick her up. Ellen is of course shocked and thinks this is a cruel joke until other things start happening, like the weather changing from a clear day to snow. Ellen soon realizes that she is reliving the day Korrie died in snippets and that it may have something to do with her husband’s big experiment that is taking place today. Unable to get in touch with her husband, Ellen is in a race against time to change the events of that awful day. This may be the only shot she has to get her daughter back.

The story is told in alternating perspectives between Ellen and her husband. I really loved Ellen and her resourcefulness. I connected with her as a mother. I did struggle a bit with the parts of the story told from Zac’s POV simply because they were full of physics.

Overall this book was a solid 4 star read! I enjoyed the originality of the plot and how fast paced the writing was. I felt like as I neared the end I was in a frenzy to get there. Thank you to @suzyapprovedbooktours and @catwallacehope for my finished copy of the book to review. It was genuinely a great book and I look forward to more from this author.

Once Again by Catherine Wallace Hope is a poignant time travel novel.

Erin Fullarton is still grieving the loss of her six year old daughter Korrie.  Athough they still love each other, she asked her husband Zac to move out but they communicate daily. At her therapist suggestion, Erin is trying to stop looking back so she is marking a sad milestone.  She would like Zac to be with her  but he is an astrophysicist working on a project that cannot be delayed. When she receives a shocking phone call from her daughter's school, Erin believes a cruel prank is being played on her. But when she notices the date and time on her phone, she is stunned to realize she has gone back in time to the date of Korrie's death.  Will this inexplicable trip back in time provide Erin the opportunity to save her daughter?

Erin is shaken by the realization that she might be able to have a second chance with Korrie. Unbeknownst to her, the time slips only last for a certain period of time. After she realizes this important detail, Erin tries to predict when the next time slip with occur so she can know where she needs to be at that exact time.  Much to her frustration, she is unable to arrive in time to stop the pivotal event from occurring. As the day wears on, Erin begins to despair she will be able to save her daughter, but she refuses to give up trying.

Zac and his co-workers are amazed at how well their project is going. But they soon notice little blips they cannot account for. Zac works on his formula in attempt to understand why they are happening. What impact will it have in the real world if they make alterations to their project's coding?

Once Again is a captivating novel with an clever storyline. The plot is quite unique and the time travel aspect is well executed. Erin's race to save her daughter is quite riveting. With plenty of tension, Catherine Wallace Hope brings this suspenseful novel to an edge of the seat conclusion.  I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this incredible debut.

Erin's daughter died five hundred days ago, and, attempting to follow her therapist's advice, Erin tries to find solace in the 500th day. But a phone call comes in at exactly 9:32 am, the same phone call that started it all that fateful day. Erin tries to reach her husband, Zac, an astrophysicist, but he's busy with a ground-breaking project at work. Erin realizes that she's alone to try to understand how and why time seems to be shifting back to that day. And, if these shifts keep happening, can she save her daughter? All she knows is she has to try.

I'm going to admit first off that a lot of the physics of this book was way over my head. That being said, the story line was riveting, and my heart was in my throat almost the entire novel. The writing had me from page one, lost me a bit during Zac's chapters, but brought me back every time Erin tried to figure out how to save her child. If I understood the science of this, I would have enjoyed it more, but it's important to note that, despite not understanding parts, I couldn't put the book down. I truly felt Erin's grief, her confusion, and her compulsion. I appreciated that Erin struggled to remember and understand everything her husband said to her about the loop experiment because it made me feel like I wasn't alone. This was just truly engaging and fast paced, and, if you know a little something something about physics, this'll definitely be a five-star read for you. And wait, this was a debut?! I'm on board for whenever else Catherine Wallace Hope wants to go!

What if you could go back in time and undo a tragic happening?

Erin’s daughter, Korrie died tragically, more than a year ago and since then Erin is trying to go through her grief, but she can’t. Her husband Zac seems to be coping with this tragic even easier than Erin. Zac is an astrophysicist, who strongly believes in a phenomenon breakthrough, and he has buried himself in his work since Korrie’s death.

But when Erin receives a call from Korrie’s school, the same call she received 500 days ago, she thinks the phenomenon breakthrough that Zac was talking about has happened. Will she be able to save her daughter’s life this time?!

This beautifully written debut novel is about dealing with loss, grief, and depression. The author did a great job with the amazing set of characters and plot. There are unpredictable changes with twists and turns. I enjoyed reading this creative novel. At times I found the science is too technical for me, but it didn’t stop me from wanting to read the story.

It was a very different thriller read for me, if you like a twisted thriller with a touch of sci-fi then it’s a perfect book for you to read.

Many Thanks to Suzanne Leopold and Catherine Wallace Hope .

I love time slip books in all forms. The time traveller’s wife, All our wrong todays and 11.22.63 are just a few of my favourites. They always have one thing in common, the chance to change something, and this is no exception.

This however holds between its pages not just a chance, but an exquisitely told raw account of a mother’s grief, depression and the aftermath of losing a child to their marriage. Erin is in therapy and barely holding things together while her estranged husband Zac buries himself in his work.

Now I was lost in the sciency stuff but it didn’t detract me from the story and I was so captivated that it seemed to just blend in effortlessly.

I felt every tear of Erin’s heartbreak and I really hoped for Erin to use the gift of the rare phenomenon and bring back her daughter Korrie. Now anyone who has read Pet Semetary by Stephen King or who has watched the film The Butterfly Effect knows that there may be consequences. The thriller elements to this book kept the pace and me glued to the pages.

The characters although very different are equally absorbing. As a mum myself I related to Erin in that I would do whatever it took to protect my children from harm. If that harm has already happened what parent wouldn’t want the chance to change it.

An intriguing book that captures the soul and all the little moments of time that are really important. One that will stay with you long after you close it.

What I loved most about this book was how easy it was to feel for Erin. From her desperation to have her daughter back, and how a person would react to every emotion that comes with a tragedy. The reality of her relationship with Zac after losing their daughter, and how different people deal with things that happen in life was written so well, it pulled me right in.

The only part of the book I struggled with was reading through all the physics of Zac's experiment at work but it didn't take away too much from the story. In fact the idea that these two parallel lives for Erin could be happening alongside his work is one of the things I really enjoyed about this story. Even with parts that were a tad bit more scientific than I understood at times, the creative way the author created this interwoven plotline was a huge hit for me.
