Safety is a longshot, but it’s better than no shot at all.
Safe in the middle of a Gov Human military task force, Saree is content. No, she’s more than content; her new relationship with Ruhger makes her happy. But when an unknown enemy destroys one of their military escorts, Lightwave is back on the run.
With no idea who attacked them, they can’t trust anyone. All they can do is keep folding away, finding new systems and new cover identities. Especially when elements inside Gov Human military blame Saree and Lightwave for the attack and stage a takeover. With enemies on all side, safety is right out the airlock. Mere survival is a longshot…

A.M. SCOTT CONTINUES TO MATURE AS A CONFIDENT STORY TELLER Everything is gaining confidence and becoming more enjoyable for the reader as well. Things change in Scott's stories with a suddenness and a finality as a white rabbit and a little proper English Lady stepping through the rabbit hole on their way to tea with the Queen.
From the science perspective, I like the fold space methodology for long distance interstellar travel instantaneous then local orbits. This, I am to understand is from the theory that the universe folds like a Pringles Potato Chip. And I like the need for the well calibrated clock system and how a random act of kindness to some refugee child proved the unexpected consequence for the actions... In the fullness of time...The Time Guild and the First Human Clock Maintainer who is OTJ Training and one step ahead of the slavers trying to stay incognito while they figure out how to do what the aliens hope she will do and no one really sure she understood what she did not know... when chance played another important roll and she signed a long term lease on Lightwave just in time to realize that her "assistant" extra safety protocols woke an AI so she has a teen age kid all at once and a bunch of people who want to kidnap and control her... while she finds that she has strong feelings for the captain and several of the crew members and she becomes trained as part of the crew, they all are cross trained. Teams approach reminds me of Star Gate USAF Tac team small, proficient, cross trained, supported but things still go wrong enough to need fixing.
The entire canvas changes for the artist and Scott paint characters and events that are entertaining to explore and you did a wonderful job with this story. I had the good fortune to find this Lightwave Folding Space series after/as the last book was written (Covid 19 is mentioned in the afterword) and I was able to read like driving a performance car on a great road till I caught up to the line of trailers and campers which is where the story was being written so it worked perfectly for a metaphor for me.
I like the way also that the <<"Whatever that was"?>> puts just enough distance on the subjects to let us know we ain't exactly like us is we??
In one book I noticed a main character name and disposition change with one letter in the name... As of chapter 12 switch from the subservient stylist to the King name spelled with a "Z" to the scheming kidnapper of the scholar "L" and the switch was so smoothly done, I had to double check that the previously used name Zoarn did not reappear when Loran appeared. I don't recall mentioning that in a previous review but I noticed it at the time I hit chapter 12... I knew things were about to change and I didn't catch on right away so I really tip my ^nonexistent hat^ to you AM. Scott. However, my observation is more in the slick trick that Scott used to change character and purpose of someone in the story already to help take the story down the rabbit hole to a land of entertainment.
Lightwave Clutch Leader is part Houdini and part Bat Girl with just enough Bruce Lee and McGyver to keep it interesting.

Quinn should be a good read, I hope to see more of Hal and the other AI's too...
As daid before I lovedbooks 1-3...AM SCOTT did a great job. Sadly books 4-6 Were slow, ambling and I read each praying for the adversity, adventure, thrill, challenges, entrigue and more. I have been reading sci-fi since about age 8 am in my 60s. My first feast was on about 30 novels of my grandfathers. So I look for more than just made up words...I want plot, fully developed characters, excitement...I want to be driven to stay up all night reading the book. I have several communication degrees but my specialty all my life has been writing life blood to keep businesses running. Thus, I look to other authors to feed my other side of the spectrum. Finally Scott revived the energy and the breath of fiction as a living element in Book seven. Thank you AM SCOTT and scifi fiction Godess.
I would love to sit down for coffee or live chat to understand the drive and purposes of books 4-6....maybe I missed something in the great galaxy. After all the action in book 7....I am sad she is shutting down the saga on Saree and Rugher and the entire crew that I have learned to love. For curiosity's sake I will attempt to read the associated novels. I pray the energy from Book 7 are alive and folding.
I have one recommendation to avoid loosing readers after book three....consider combining, enhancing, and breathing a deeper story line and life that makes an exciting lifebridge to the last book. I know just my crazy opinion...an insomniac needed to be immersed. You fed me well with book seven. Sorry readers I don't lke many reviewers describe the characters, plots and secrets. I find reading a very important part of one's personal gratification. And I am not one that reads the last chapter first. I have met many in my years that do that. Sorry I think that is stealing from the author's brain work, intentions, and goals....you must walk the path or stop along the way. Book seven madevme glad I did not give up.
I really enjoyed this book! It primarily centers on Saree and Ruhger’s perspectives with less crew involvement. Sa’sa and other groups feature prominently in the story. There are continued exciting and imaginative escapes from beings intent on capturing Saree to use her clock tuning skills. There is a touch of romance, plenty of hard sci-fi and many “Easter egg” references for those who enjoy a lighter side of things. The plot is tight as it carefully introduces new story twists while tying up one loose end after another. A very satisfying ending to the Saree and Ruhger arc of the series!
Although the storyline flowed and the numerous characters appeared realistic, the frequent use of idioms was irritating. Food, repetitions and minor characters were used as padding
9/21/20 - 5 stars I have so enjoyed traveling with Saree, Ruhger, Hal and the Lightwave Folder "family." This story had some real twists and surprises, like where Galactica was located and how Saree and Ruhger escaped. Good to see General Kerr again too.
Longshot closes out the Folding Space series in a satisfying fashion. My only criticism is that the eventual encounter with "Galactica" is so short, compared to other, complex conflicts within the series. In context it makes sense, it just left me wanting more.
Kept me interested all the way to the seventh book. A great balance of characters, exciting plot, action, suspense all the way through. Can't wait for the next one!
