My first book in this series. I’m learning English and it was very useful book. Easy words and interesting story. Like the exercises in the end of each chapter.

Listened to an audio version. I ended up finishing most of it in one night.

Doyle is a really good writer. The words flow so easily out and are pleasurable to hear even when the characters aren't engaged in their case. He writes, not types.

The racism that popped up about halfway through was bad, though; very British colonialist, very 19th-century. The only bad guy who dies was the black guy who is portrayed as an animal that has to be put down because he's so dangerous and savage (literally). Stuff like this ruined a good part of the story which was otherwise very well-written and engaging.

Not as good as the first. Lost me a little when the story turned to India. Book began with Sherlock Holmes injecting himself with cocaine because it helped with keeping his brain sharp and focus. Crazy!
