“Pineapple Puzzles” earns 5/5 Jellybean Puzzle Pieces!

Ok, what do you think of when someone says Florida? Retirement communities? Alligators in a swimming pool? Convalescent homes? Murder? Amy hits us with her best shot with a series of murders that just may be too clever to actually appear to be a murder. Leaving puzzle pieces at the scene of the crime has law enforcement on the trail of the serial killer dubbed the “Puzzle Man.” Charlotte, with her adopted uncle Sheriff Frank and her PI mentor Seamus, is trying to gain experience and hone her detective skills and finally become an official PI herself, but this may be a greater challenge than she is prepared for. And when it appears a second killer may also be active, Charlotte is going to have to up her game. It is a page-turner and I was so engaged by the clever cat and mouse between “Puzzle Man” and his victims, the second killer, and law enforcement. What an ending! Of course, I am again entertained by the “55+” characters, especially Aunt Carolina, who offer comic relief, and Charlotte and Declan continue to work on their relationship with an ex as the monkey wrench in the deal. Hooked!

A clever and complex cozy with the quirky characters that live in Pineapple Port. Charlotte, Declan and Declan's uncle, Seamus, must find the serial killer and stop the murders. I read this book as part of Ms. Vansant's boxed set.

Even though I loved books 1 and 2 in this series, I have to say this is the best one so far, and this just goes to show that Amy Vansant is only getting better at her craft. It's beyond me how she manages to come up with such hilarious characters, pets and situations. The come backs are that something else and the hairless cat in this book alone was enough to keep me howling as I turned the pages. There's just so much in this book to keep you laughing. The awkwardness between Charlotte and the horrid Stephanie for one. The book has many twists and turns, typical of Amy Vansant's style. I'm a big fan and have read everything she writes and this series is my favorite. I only wish she could write faster! This is a delightful read that can be read as a standalone, just like all the others in the series. I'd recommend it highly to anyone who loves a good laugh, Golden Girls humor, and a cracking good cozy mystery plot. I could say it doesn't get better than this, but to be frank I expect Mrs Vansant would prove me wrong with the next volume!

Word of warning that this not a cozy, per se, despite the cuteness of the cover. There were gruesome situations that were unexpected. I simply can't remember the first book being so; maybe the second one is (I somehow skipped over it but will be going back).

In contrast to the above are the fun personalities and antics of the mc's senior 'family'. They provided much needed comic relief and I found myself laughing out loud a few times.

Good twist near the end, which I had vaguely suspected.

One drawback was the constant use of semi-colons where commas were needed. This tended to pull me out of the story.

I didn't see this twist coming! You can't get much better than this, and the series stands to get even better. I couldn't put it down.

4.5 stars - This one was a bit darker than the others in the series so far (but not too dark, it's still chicklit/cozy lol), getting a glimpse into the mind of a serial killer. I found this mystery to be more exciting, with some twists and surprises along the way. That being said, the story leaves many things unresolved, ending in a somewhat awkward and unsettling fashion, in my opinion. Hopefully this is just setup for future books in the series.
I still love the whole Pineapple Port gang, including the new addition of Carolina, but nothing has made me laugh out loud as much as the first book, which continues to be my favorite. In the next installment(s), I'm hoping to see more development in the Charlotte-Declan relationship. Looking forward to seeing what adventure awaits Pineapple Port next!

I was disappointed in this third entry into the Pineapple Port Mystery series. It is very dark and gruesome. The murders are full of blood and gore. I would not consider this a cozy mystery at all. It has all the same characters but without the humour, quirkiness or romance. Instead the focus is on characters that are mean, malicious and cruel. I found the ending especially disappointing. I am guessing that some of this story will continue. It was only my like of the regular characters that redeemed any part of this story. I have always enjoyed Amy's books but this one was a big miss for me.

I'm really getting hooked on this series, the books just keep getting better and better!

I like how each of the books is a stand-alone mystery, but all the characters and their storylines continue to evolve in each book.

Stephanie's storyline was unexpected, but like her mother, I should have seen the signs earlier!

This installment was a bit problematic for me, but I adore the cast, and found the storyline to be unique and thrilling at points so I'm still 5 staring it.

I love that Charlotte is having to work at being a PI. Being observant, finding clues, etc. isn't coming easy to her and it makes the storyline so realistic. She had a crazy career idea and is having to work for it. Each mini case around the port that she gets is simple yet, a learning experience. I excited to watch this skill of her develop as the series goes on.

Now to the problematic stuff.

The entire Stephanie storyline is so hard to buy. I kept thinking "but why" throughout most of her chapters. I am not looking forward to her being a main character. Who just casually lets their crazy cheater ex come over, or speak to them?? I've been puzzling over this since she appeared in the last book, but now it's clear that her being allowed to stay had to happen because she needed to be in the picture to be in this book. After the scare in the last book, any logical person would have ex communicated her, not just giggled off her crazy behavior.

The added POVs to give the reader spoilers were also ugh for me. It's like the book couldn't decide who was the main character and what the main plot line was. Is it adorable Charlotte, hunting down her port mysteries. Or is it Stephanie ?!?

While I loved the shocking reveal in Jamie's storyline, the connections revealed between Stephanie and Jamie were over the top for me. Like it was done for pure shock value.

I don't know, this book book left me with thoughts. lol I know I'll continue onto the next because i am curious who is lead, and the cast gives me a good laugh, but this book, and any where Stephanie's over the top storyline dominate won't be favorites of mine.

I'm also now rooting for Charlotte to leave Declan because no one has time for someone who can't push off an ex. She deserves better.

Book Three in the Pineapple Port Cozy Mystery Series starts in a bar with a scene between "Alex" and Pat Conley, semi-retired railroad worker who now makes wooden jigsaw puzzles in FL. We later see "Alex" entering an Alzheimer's Home, for an "encounter" with champion crossworder Roger.
Meanwhile, in Pineapple Port, Charlotte is working on getting enough hours to get her private investigator's license, now spending more time with Sheriff Frank, as Uncle Seamus hasn't had much business lately, but still truly working with both. She goes to see a dead body with Frank, but Charlotte's discovery of a sick cat- a hairless cat no less- under the bed leads to the discovery that this isn't a heart attack, & the death of the man's wife two days before also probably wasn't natural causes.
The whole Pineapple Port cast & crew gets involved in this book again, although to a lesser extent than in the two prior books. It seems that as Charlotte is getting more experience, she needs less "creative assistance" from Darla & Mariska. There is the new character of Mariska's visiting sister, "Auntie Caroline," and Declan's ex Stephanie becomes a truly disturbing part of their lives. But the big issue is the apparent return of notorious serial killer, the Puzzle Killer, along with a possible copy-cat.
This is another fun, exciting chapter in the series, but I urge readers to start at the beginning with book 1, otherwise a lot of context will be missing. There are a lot of twists & turns before the end, and the author leaves room for much more to come. But this book kept me engrossed from beginning to end. There were surprises, & I can't wait to read the next installment.

The third in the series of Pineapple Port and the characters are much the same. Before I go further, I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. I am also part of the author's street team that promotes the series.
Amy has again written an interesting story. There is a murder out there who is killing people and making them look like accidents. Then, so that people know, the killer is leaving pieces of a puzzle behind as a sign that it is them doing it.
Charolette, our hero, is trying to figure out the person doing the killing as part of her training for being a private eye under the auspices of her neighbor the police chief and her boyfriend's uncle, Samus, who was a private eye at one time. Telling you much more of the story gets to giving clues to how it ends.
The one gripe I have about this, and it is the reason it only got 4 stars, is that the ending did not wrap things up. Someone who should be in jail is not. I suspect that is so the author can set things up for a future book but I am old school and like my stories not to be continued. Still, it is not a bad ending, and I have seen a lot worse than this in stories that I have read lately.
I recommend to anyone who wants a fun, light-hearted mystery. Though the series has been promoted as a Cozy, I would not recommend it as a Cozy. It is not bad, just there are some things in it that do not fit in the Venn diagram of what makes a Cozy.

Wow, I loved this book. I enjoy a good puzzle and I would say most mystery fans do but I loved the way the killer puzzles out a way to kill someone and make it look like an accident, very inventive but the author wasn't done, she then added in some twists to throw you off. I read the book and gave it a four star rating because I enjoyed but it is a whole different experience listening to it, now it's a five, despite knowing how it turns out I couldn't stop listening. The characters are what makes this a loveable series and the one i turn to when I need cheering up because I know the author packs her little adventures full of laughs and mischief from ex girlfriends, serial killers and even unusual pets. Bring on the next book.
There have been a number of deaths in the Pineapple Port area that have been ruled as accidents, with one worrying detail. A puzzle piece is found at the scene. Is the famous Puzzle killer back? And what happens when two serial killers are in town and want to start a game? Charlotte and the Pineapple gang are going to have to keep there wits about them if they don't want to get caught in the middle of a deadly game. And with Declan, Charlotte's boyfriend, ex girlfriend involved and passing on secret messages. Can Charlotte keep her man as well as her life?
I really liked the narrator and thought she added something special to the reading of this story.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

It really isn't a big surprise that nasty Stephanie turns out to have ties to a serial killer. Is she one too...? Not much to wonder at in the end. She is the kind of ex girlfriend you love to hate, and it looks like it was no accident she ended up that way.

The mystery of the Puzzle Killers is a pretty twisted, edge of your seat story as it unravels. Not a lot of romance to this story, but quite a bit of suspense.

It begs the question : what happens to two girls orphaned or abandoned. Is Charlotte's loving circle of friends and family as crucial to who she becomes, as Stephanie's twisted shattered family is key to her and her development?

Or would their natures have been the same no matter the nurture surrounding them?

A voluntary review. I started reading this series with an arc copy, and have enjoyed the many finds on Amy Vansant's axpreaderland.
A great way to find deals and info on lots of cool genres - and great forums like Amazon's Kindle Worlds.

Declan didn't seem to do much to help Stephanie learn to value love without hurt. Maybe Charlotte should learn from her example, but does she really know how dark Dylan's ex truly is?

We can only hope Charlotte gets by with a little help from her friends - and trusty Dizzy!

An action packed read for murder mystery fans!

Not the resolution I was hoping for

Interesting and scary, especially for Charlotte. Two serial killers on the loose and she is on the radar of both. This is the first story where they didn't get it right and we'll have to contend with a murderer in another book or more....

There were definitely twists to this with more involvement from new and / or secondary characters, and yes, the wacky seniors are still involved, but less than the previous books. Charlotte's supposedly paying job pretty much ends up hosed, and I'm not even sure she gets to count the hours. When Seamus gets hired to look into the possible return of the puzzle killer and Charlotte is tagging along with the Sheriff on a separate case, that appears to mimic the same killer, he decides to partner with Charlotte in exchange for information sharing. Things get really crazy when Stephanie approaches Declan with a similar request to have Charlotte partner with her and her client to share some information as there is a direct link to Declan and Charlotte somewhere in the mix.

Three deaths, with several more as the story progresses, and the tally seems to be getting steeper from book to book.

I’ve been getting some of the Pineapple Port books free via Freebooksy. I didn’t get them in order and it didn’t matter. There’s a bit of an introduction in each one without it being boring. I jumped in on book three and didn’t feel like I was lost. I’ve since caught up from book one and it filled the story in well.

I find the characters to be mostly charming and I’m a little obsessed with the Pineapple Port retirement community and the folks who live there. I’d like to move in between Charlotte and Frank. The mysteries work and I’m always looking forward to the solve, but it’s the fun writing and charming characters that keep me reading. Things get just “wacky Florida” outrageous enough but are balanced well with the interesting people in the Pineapple Port community. I love the way Charlotte and her friends and work together and I feel like I know them all.

I purchased Pineapple Puzzles A Pineapple Port Mystery: Book Three by Amy Vansant and this review was given freely. Read March 2017.
The scene is set with recently retired Alex from Philadelphia, PA meeting the bartender and famous wooden jigsaw puzzle maker Pat. A gruesome killing spree ensues with a puzzle piece left at each scene. Charlotte who is interning with Sheriff Frank to gain hours towards her PI license becomes embroiled in solving the mystery of the puzzle killer but also has to contend with the return of Declan's less than nice ex the lawyer Stephanie. Action packed and sometimes gruesome with comic relief from a hairless cat, the sheriff's dispatcher Ruby, Declan's new employee Blade, and the ladies who love Charlotte.

The author has come up with a marvelously convoluted plot for her already constructed characters to play against, and the results are amusing. Once again, everything revolves around Charlotte, Declan and Sheamus. When you throw Stephanie into the mix, the plot line begins to wrinkle a lot. We can add in Simone in the retirement community next door and the plot wrinkles start to knot up. There are an awful lot of bodies piling up around Pineapple Port, and some of them have died in creative ways. At the bottom of it all is the Puzzle Killer, who has been operating for many years and who always leaves a calling card of a jigsaw puzzle piece around the corpses left behind. Throw a naked hairless cat into the mix and you have a plot line as wrinkled as the cat's pajamas. I loved this book!

Started heading for a 5, but the it lost any intrigue

I was really enjoying the murders and the way they were set up also the man stalking Charlotte and breaking into her apartment to lie in her bed. Freaky and perverted. Then the part where they had a safe place for Stephanie was way too predictable. But, instead of the hunt being on the the puzzle killer or to find out what Stephanie knew. However, it all basically stopped with Declan and Charlotte being overheard talking. Where does Blade fall into all of this and who wouldn’t make sure he was gone before talking about him again. Disappointing.
All this said, there were laugh out loud moments in the book which I enjoyed very much.

I requested, and received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I requested this particular book because I am familiar with other books by this author and wanted more. Here, then is my honest review.
Pineapple Puzzles by Amy Vansant is the third book in this series. It is fun and exciting. The humorous twists and turns in each of these mysteries, and there are several different ones in this book alone, make this a really fun read. I love the characters and the examples of clean, loving relationships that stand the trials and tests of time. I really love this fun, clean book and am happy that there are always more.

I received this book as an ARC, I will not show up as a verified purchase.
As Charlotte is training for her PI license, a serial killer known as the Puzzle Killer shows up in Pineapple Port. Stephanie, Declans ex is targeted by the killer, she winds up living with Charlotte putting everyone in jeopardy.
With two serial killers trying to better the other, there are a lot of deaths. Can Charlotte uncover the Puzzle Killer, or will people close to her be put in danger and possibly die also.
Many many twist in this story, with what cannot really be called a cliffhanger, but you know the next story will be crazy.

The puzzle killer returns to Pineapple Port. With Charlotte continuing to work with Frank her adoptive father and sheriff she’s getting closer and closer to have enough hrs to get her PI license. When puzzle pieces start showing up at crime scenes Frank realizes the puzzle killer is back. In this book we learn more about Stephanie’s background and why she is the way she is. We also learn that Mariska has a sister who comes to visit. The characters get more and more quirky and funny with each book! This book has a surprise ending that I didn’t see coming! I highly recommend this book and this series! If you are looking for a light, funny read then this is the book for you!

A good mystery. Charlotte is called to a death scene by Frank. It looks like natural causes until she finds the cat. Declan continues to act like an airhead. Stephanie doesn't seem to add anything positive to the story. Lots of misdirection throughout the story. While the reader learns about the perpetrator, the good guys are clueless. Perhaps the intent is to clue them in, or drag things out, in future stories.

Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Haunting. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

Pineapple Puzzles by Amy Vansant
Charlotte is back to entertain us, this time in a struggle for Declan’s attention due to an ex girlfriend appearing. So she has to try and outwit Stephanie and save Declan from crocodile tears as well as solve one or two mysteries along the way, AND find a home for a hairless cat she has been landed with. Another greatly enjoyed book from Amy Vansant. I bought this and the review is my own. Excuse me while I quickly open the next Pineapple book 4 Pineapple Land War!

I've read the first three books in this series and loved them all. They are cleverly written and the stories weave around mystery, humor, and light romance. There are enough twists to keep you guessing and engaged to the end.

A twenty-something woman who fancies herself a private investigator, living in a Florida retirement community with senior citizens as co-investigators lead to hilarious situations. Very enjoyable reading.

I hated giving this such a low rating but I couldn't even finish it. I even put it down for a while and thought maybe when I went back to it that I would enjoy it more but I didn't. I've enjoyed her other books but was disappointed with the writing in this one. I was excited that the story line of this book was darker but the writing made it almost unfunny comical. Hoping the next book is better.

A killer called the puzzle killer was doing away with people in the strangest weirdest ways. It just seemed so easy how it was done. A attorney found out that her birth mother was the puzzle killer. In the meantime someone texted the killer and put a challenge to her . Kill someone before I do . If you lose you must kill your daughter. We think we know who it is but at the ending do we really know who the puzzle killer was.

2 odd murders related to puzzles don't seem to be connected, until the ex-girlfriend shows up with a warning for Declan and Charlotte that they could both be in danger, add to that the plant thief, a suspicious girlfriend and a strange new guy trying to hit on the ladies and you have a whole lot going on that doesn't seem to be related but is, lots of unexpected surprises and startling family connections lead to finding a murderer. Great read.
