Amplitude
By Dean M. Cole
The story picks up right where the 2nd book left off. Now that their world is reset, the nightmare will repeat, but this time, the duo hopes to get someone to help them shut down the other sites. Action packed and exciting. I did get tired of BOB saying "Captain Asshole" frequently. That got old quickly.

Mr. Cole is an award winning author and this book certainly did not disappoint. This is the third book in the series; however, I think one could read this book without reading the first two (there is enough recapping in the story). This story has everything one needs, robots, aliens, alien robots and even a love story!! There is even some hard science included. Full disclosure, I was provided an advance copy for the purpose of providing a review. However, I definitely will be purchasing a copy upon its release.

Necks! Taters! Endless caterpillars! And even mice. Or were they rats?

Finally Vaughn and Angela get the chance to set things straight and they even get some help. The way the whole thing gets arranged is pretty engaging - will they or won't they help? Bob was priceless. And the endless string of problems these people encounter is almost disheartening. Still, something in me said they'd be ok in the end and they were, for the most part. There were some interesting theories raised at the end, so it'll be fun to see what Dean Cole comes up with next.

RC Bray was fabulous, as was Julia Whelan, in their audiobook performances. I think I nearly died laughing at the outakes from Bray at the end.

With Angela’s successful reset of the timeline, she and Vaughn are now faced with new challenges in trying to stop earth’s destruction by the mechanical invaders. Angela and Vaughn are joined in their quest by the remainder of the ISS crew, a small cadre of NASA astronaut trainees with an eclectic mix of backgrounds and Vaughn’s previous copilot Mark. This installment in the trilogy explains several events from the perspective of other characters who were involved in the initial event that allowed the Necks to come through CERN, as well as following the group as they attempt to save earth.
With many stories the reader makes several inferences as to how it will end and the various events that might lead up to that presumed ending. Up to this book, this series has made this reader work overtime in making inferences and presumptions and then Amplitude went out of its way to ensure that each inference or presumption I made was thoroughly dashed, including making me question if the story had actually ended or if maybe I was seeing a vision of things to come.
This series has reminded me of the very first science fiction story I ever read, Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land. Dean Cole, in my opinion, ranks right up there with Robert Heinlein in the world of Science fiction authors. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Mr. Cole’s imagination. I received an Advance Reader Copy of Amplitude and chose to provide this review.

This was an okay finish to the series. I did unfortunately get bored with the middle part of the book, but enjoyed the ending. I also enjoyed the little snippets of Ex Force references in it, however sometimes thought Vaughn was a little too similar to Joe Bishop.

3.5 - 4.0 ⭐

This wasn't a bad conclusion to the trilogy. It was action packed, almost too action packed for my tastes. I ended up skimming towards the end. One life threatening situation after another is just exhausting and tedious, IMO. There are some new characters introduced to help Angela and Vaughn. I listened to the first 2 books and was a bit disappointed to learn the audio book will be a couple of months behind the ebook.

Although the main plot arc is concluded the story doesn't end. Looks like there will be another 'trilogy'.

This series gets more exciting with each book! Angela and Vaughn managed to reset the timeline going back to the point right before the invasion of the "necks". This time they manage to bring a little more help with them and try to prevent this from ever happening and to save humanity. Can't wait for book 4!

The narration throughout this series has been outstanding! R.C. Bray and Julia Whelan do an amazing job of bringing this story to life!

Loving this series. Now that I've completed the 3rd (but I don't think final) I MUST re-read the whole trio of books over again. I love the characters, the descriptions of the settings, the premise, and especially the ending. Keep 'em coming Dean!

SPOILER: I really like that additional characters have been added. Especially B0b the robot.

Dean's third venture into this series does not disappoint. After the frustration the protagonists have endured in Solitude and Multitude, Angela and Vaughan must now try to reverse the damage done by the no-necks. Thrilling read. Also read Sector 64: Ambush series by Dean M Cole - more work by a guy that knows what he's writing about and working it into our imminent future... and past!

Read it! You won't be disappointed!

Dean Cole's latest novel Amplitude exceeds his already high standard. With the third book in the Dimension Space series, the saga of Angela and Vaughn continues. The reset of the timeline brings new challenges and an expanded cast of characters, including Vaughn's friend Mark, some ISS crewmembers, a number of "ass cans" (astronaut candidates), and BOb, a robot with an attitude, to resist the invasion of the Necks. OK...make that a robot with a real attitude.

Amplitude, with its additional cast, does a great job of letting us see some past events from alternate viewpoints, as well as continuing the story moving forward.

The books in the series just keep getting better, and this bodes well for the next one, which amplitude does a good job of setting up.

Disclosure: I received an advance copy of the book in exchange for suggestions and an honest review. I will, however, buy a copy of the book on its release.

While this is the third book in the series I feel like it's also the best of the series. Yes the first part is a partial rehash of the end of book 2, but there is more there that wasn't gone into at the end of book 2 and that truly enhances the book.
Like all the previous books the action is non-stop and keeps you guessing as you're reading.
To me the best addition to this book is the addition of new members to get through the crisis and by far the addition is that of BOb, the smart mouthed robot! Truly a comedic addition that this book uses wisely and at times has you laughing out loud.
If you haven't read books 1 and 2 you should, because you're definitely missing out.
Buy this.
Read this.
Enjoy this.

An excellent ending to the first Dimension Space Trilogy!

The story becomes more complex and intricate with the introduction of new characters and more details about the Necks' invasion is revealed. The story and characters developed at a nice pace, and the only disappointing part of the story was the ending. No - I mean literally the ending, as I didn't want the book to end! Fortunately there will be another Dimension Space trilogy, so good times all around!

If you have read the first two books in the Dimension Space series, the third installment won't disappoint. If you are checking out the reviews of this book to see if it's worth starting this series, I highly recommend that you do!

Amplitude is an awesome ride!

Humanity had its collective butt kicked to extinct in Solitude, we manage to fight back in Multitude, but two people can only do so much.

Amplitude, did not disappoint, Dean has expanded the scale quite dramatically for the final part of the trilogy all my questions are answered, the story arc soars and comes to a really satisfying conclusion. No spoilers from me.

It has love death and robots (as well as easter eggs, grenade launchers and a black ops spec osprey) buckle up 😁

What a spectacular journey!

Dean M Cole has created an amazing Multiverse for this series. Full of well realized characters and written at a level that would make a pole vaulter jealous. This blend of scifi and action was a pleasure to read. From beginning to end, you will not stop turning the pages until they are all gone, and then you will want more.

Dean, you have done it again.. Book three had me on the edge of my seat. The way you explain everything I can picture it like I am there! You remind me of Arthur C Clarke and the Rama Books he wrote... Top marks again, a must read on all three books. Hoping a screenwriter takes these and we see movies down the road.. 10 out of 10 Dean...

About 200 pages too long.

This was a fine piece of escapist SF. The “quest” pieces were a bit redundant and could have used the services of a good editor. I will, however, read on! Characters were good and dialogue, not awful, but again redundant.

What a wonderful way to end the trilogy. This story was both, more expansive than the previous two novels (which is always wonderful) and it was also longer (got to love a big book) and finally...it fulfilled the promise from the author to the reader...that a satisfied ending was achieved.

Of course, there is more to come...and I am here for it. I really love Commander Angela Brown (still tickled when I hear the UPS commercial), and Captain Vaughn Singleton. They are the OG characters...and they still hold sway in this story.

The additions of the other ISS astronauts/cosmonauts was cool. It gives weight to the original story in Solitude. Also the addition of the four others was also genius. Thanks to the four others...who were wonderful additions to the overall team. Without them, the book would not have worked as well as it did this way. Loved them...even the Brit (by the end). Ugh.

Also, the banter between Bob and Cpt. Vaughn was hilarious.

That was/is something that I really loved about this trilogy. The humour was "on point". It shows what military people do all the time...in high stress stituations. They call it gallows humour. A tight bond of men/women doing impossible jobs...when in the thick of the problem...use levity and humour to ease down the tension...so they don't go insane (under the pressure).

In this story, that was captured perfectly. Also, the pop culture things that were added ARE exactly what we all do. So, yeah...loved that.

Overall, this is an adr3eniline rush for sure. Loved every minute of reading this book.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

5 *'s for this book, 4 *'s for the series.

Pros: Highly original. Don't recall reading anything like it or hearing about anything like it. This 3-series story arc was interesting in concept and I felt his execution was well done. I found his plotting to be excellent. His logic seemed tight, and he covered the questions I had from time to time. From this standpoint, he certainly had my interest. And I'm very much looking forward to the next set in the series. So to be clear: the stories are worth reading, and I plan to continue to do so.

Middling: His characters mostly sounded different and most sounded like real people would. But I'd like to see him flesh out some of the supporting characters a bit more. A number of characters felt right on, Rachel Lee for example. I felt that Bingham was overdone: I'm fine with irritating characters, but Bingham still would have been a professional, else he would not have risen to the rank he did.

Cons: The first book contained more profanity than I cared for, nor did I share his rude humor. A little goes a long way, and the best writers rarely resort to it. However, subsequent books contained less of both, so I was less distracted by it. Nor would I accept that this is how military people talk. Many do, a lot don't. My personal years in service did not experience much if any profanity from officers. I admit in battle situations, profanity would likely be the case - but he didn't use much of it at those times. Others may be titillated by it - but after 60+ years of reading books - it just gets in the way of the story for me.

Each book has been better than the last, though all have been good and worth reading. Kudos to the author for such interesting ideas.

What an amazingly fun ride this series continues to be. This book was simply amazing! I love every single second of this audiobook. I loved that the author will let you end your ride hear however, I know all of us that have continued this far into the series will definitely not and will be moving on to the fourth installment when released. Our main characters were great. The new characters that were introduced were great as well there’s just so much that you love about them and they all fit together so nicely. At times I thought this book should be labelled a comedy because I was laughing so hard at the one liners. I mean, a football bat really… Still laughing. This series is way too easy to love and then you add 2 narrators with such 5 star reputations that it cannot get much better. Simply put, their performance definitely add something to this already great series.oh lets not even get in to our friend Bob, the battle operations bot. Holy smokes, so cool but gosh darn Hilarious. Thank you so much for the outtake real at the end of the story as well that was a great gift to everyone that has stuck with this series through the three audiobooks. Who thought a science-fiction book would give me a whole new outlook on life. And answer the question to what if… Capital LOL

Amplitude (Dimension Space #3) by Dean M. Cole

Post-apocalyptic SF has never been my cup of tea, but Cole made me a believer -- at least in this brand of it. This is more cerebral than I expected -- it starts off as a series of physics and engineering problems during and after an effective global extinction. We’re treated as well to an interesting look at the logical after-effects of almost all the humans vanishing at once. Humanity’s abrupt demise quickly turns out to be the least of the survivors’ problems.

This was well-paced and the plot was alternatively fun, grim and challenging. The characters have some depth, although this is definitely an event-driven series. Cole also takes a strong shot at at least pretending to respect physics even as his characters do some wild things. I'll admit that my enthusiasm for the faux physics started to wane a bit by the time I got to this, although it's well written enough that it wasn't a problem to get to the end.

The series continues with Magnitude (2021) and Fortitude (2022), as yet unread. Well worth the time.

Fantastic ending to the Dimension Space trilogy! I pretty much inhaled these books as audiobooks and the narrators were fabulous. I love how this last book was able to include a wider cast of characters as well.

**spoilers**
Physicist Angela Brown and Army pilot Vaughn Singleton have figured out how to reset the timeline and start over a few hours before the giant energy wave sweeps over Earth and vanishes all people and animals. This time, armed with the knowledge of what is to come and also who/what is responsible, they are able to amass a team of people with special skills for their mission. What mission? The one where they stop the wave from ever wiping out humanity and also closing the wormhole so the sentient alien beings won't ever find Earth in the first place.

The team of 10 includes combat specialists, computer engineers, pilot, astronaut candidates, and a humanoid robot named B.O.B. I loved their banter and how this group worked together in a battle against all odds of success. Great trilogy that also includes a bit of humor, aliens, post-apocalyptic Earth(s), and a satisfying ending!

This book is greater than the sum of all its parts, but all of its parts aren’t that good. The series started out interesting with an interesting sci-fi thought experiment and has steadily become a military, action book with just enough sci-fi to complete the plot. I did appreciate that this entry in the series had less references to the tightening of annal sphincters to describe a tense situation. It’s very clear that the author is a helicopter pilot. Somehow being pilot is what saves the day every time. It’s a little forced for my tastes at points.

But hey, if that’s your cup of tea, then don’t let me stop you from enjoying this. This book is certainly good enough that many people will enjoy it, but it wasn’t what I enjoy. I made it to the end of book 3, so there are some high points.

Also the author totally ripped the new characters names from friends.

Before I say anything else, I really enjoyed this book. I am so glad I pushed through the second book (which I felt was much weaker than both the first and the third books) to get here.

They saved the world and the story I was hoping for is complete. My question is: Do I want to read the next book? And… I don't know. Book 2 zapped a lot of my goodwill, even though I liked the other two books. I suspect the real answer is: It depends. The story I came for is done. The next book, when it arrives, sounds like the start of a new series set in the world of these books and their characters. I think it will depend on the blurb: what is the new book/series about? From some of the things mentioned in the backmatter of Amplitude, I suspect that the new series may not be for me. But time will tell.

To say I enjoyed this story would not do it justice in any sense of the word. Dean, and likewise Bob and Julia in their performance, created a true gem with this release. This was a sequel that was well worth every minute of the wait, although that doesn't mean the wait seemed to go on forever.

The story behind the necks, the taters, BOb, Angela, and of course out favorite Captain ....... Watching the shifts between dimensions take on a path towards the ultimate goal of resetting the timeline was a thrill ride from beginning to end. I found myself sitting in my car, or taking the longer route home, just to get some more listening time.

Dean, Bob, Julia...awesome job and a great conclusion (for now) to this amazing series.

Man, I just don't know... it was entertaining, but like bad scifi channel tv show entertaining. It was like Bro-scifi. Very predictable, somewhat juvenile, and clunky writing. I don't want to give it a bad rating, because it wasn't pretending to be great literature, and I guess it did what it set out to do just fine.

With all that said, I will absolutely be picking up the next one if there is one. I'll probably cringe though the whole thing while sortof enjoying it, with no regrets.

Military SiFi

This trilogy was great from book 1 of the series to the 3! You will find it difficult to put it down. The characters were well thought out and made it a outstanding story to follow. Well worth reading if you enjoy a great page turner. I will definitely read Dean M Cole again!

This series was fantastic. The opening section of this book had me completely on edge and blew me away. The middle section felt like it slowed down, but that could be just a factor of the very strong opening. The end was great, but I would have enjoyed more time spend on the debrief.

All in all, a fantastic series however, and I'm excited for the next installments.

Good, Fast-Paced Story that actually has an ending (sort-of)

The Author gets a pat-on-the-back from me, for actually writing SciFi, wrapping up a bunch of military stuff into it that doesn’t seem too far off, AND mostly having an end to a Trilogy. [And, of course, The Author then lays out plans for a second, follow-up Trilogy ... oh, well ...]
