Adam Caron has everything he could want. A brand-new contract with an NHL team, a nice apartment, the life he's dreamed about since he was a little boy. He has everything, except the name of the man he shared a drunken, blistering hot night with.

Etienne Brideau can't stop thinking about the night he spent with Adam, but he knows better than to think Adam will want him sober. People don't fall in love with gawky, rawboned, awkward Etienne, especially not men like Adam Caron, rising hockey star, with his stunning good looks and charismatic personality.

When Adam gets back in contact with him, Etienne doesn't let himself hope that they'll ever be more than friends. But the more entangled he becomes in Adam's life, the more he can't imagine letting him go, and when an injury threatens Adam's career, Etienne knows he's in too deep to walk away.

But Adam has secrets of his own, and more than just their life as a couple may be at stake.

Chapter 1: MC1 arrives at his new minor league hockey team, where we're introduced to 8 characters — with details of their hair color, eye color, skin color, height, and build. Pay attention, there may be a quiz later!

Chapter 2: Guess what! They're all gay! Well, one is bi, one ace. But on this randomly assembled NHL minor league team with a 15-man roster, *at least* 7 guys are queer. Oh, & they're coupled up! WTF, this is the first book in the series — is it connected to other books I haven't read? Am I supposed to already know these people?

Chapter 3: Didn't make it that far. So if there *is* a quiz, I didn't get to it. My ability to suspend disbelief crumpled under the strain, and I embraced the DNF @ 5%.

I needed a bit of fluff with a dollop of cute and sweet, and that's exactly what I got with Blindside Hit. Adam and Tenny were good together and for each other and, given that my head is done in with all that's going on in the world, I've not been able to settle on a book for long. So, I really needed this make me happy, feel good easy read right now.

WOW!!!

I loved these characters!!! God!! I wanted to cuddle up Adam, and Etienne is all heart! These two together worked sooooo well!

GREAT CHEMISTRY!!
HOT sexy times!
FANTASTIC hockey scenes!

Issues:
Some inconsistencies bothered me....
Waterskiing in Seattle? On the ocean? When it’s not warm?
Continuity....
What happened to the playoff run?
You can’t just drop storylines

Still. These guys were SO GOOD together and gave me SO MANY FEELS that I overlooked the blips and decided that, yes, this is a 4 star read!

I laughed
I cried
I read this in one sitting

My rec? Hell yes!

Reading mood and expectations can alter the experience of reading a story. Trusted GR friends' reviews gave me low expectations going in, and yes the first few chapters had storytelling flaws aplenty. But then the romance picked up, and it turned better and better the more I read.

I loved the main character and his particular insecurities about his looks - or rather, lack of good looks. Ugly in the eyes of others sure makes a different life experience, and that gave the story a dynamic I enjoyed, played off against the other MC as his opposite. I loved the slow-burn pace of the romance, and was hooked solid on the character growth they both went through.

I very much want to continue reading the other hockey books by this author, as they appear to be set in the same world as these lovely characters.

This just didn't work for me. The author seemed to be aiming for a moralistic story that beauty is whats inside, but really missed the mark - it was more a reinforcement of the shallow idea that people will overlook you or ignore you if you aren't Hollywood standard attractive.

Tenny was apparently 'ugly', Adam was 'beautiful', but Adam loved him despite of his appearance 😏. The part where Adam's team get him to wear an 'ugly' disguise then reveal himself was just reinforcing the idea that beauty is needed for people to see you, even when Adam talked about it with Tenny, he was reinforcing Tenny's belief he was ugly because he 'saw how it was for him'?!?! The visit to Tenny's dad was just another way of reinforcing that looks are valued more than the person and again didn't add anything except making me feel super uncomfortable and offended on Tenny's behalf! The dad shouldn't have featured at all, it was just another way to make Tenny feel bad.

There were also SO MANY side characters between the ECHL team, the AHL team and the NHL team, plus the dad's team members. The whole bit with the sisters fiancé was bizarre and again added nothing!

This would have been so much better if it just focused on the struggle of working up to the NHL and Adam's health issues, and how they supported each other - this was really sweet but totally overshadowed. Being 'ugly' and 'beautiful' didn't even need to factor in, because not everyone is attracted to the same people anyway!

I liked this. And I would have read it much sooner had I realized BOTH MCs are hockey players! The focus is firmly on the romance, but the hockey parts were present and enjoyable.

Some things didn't feel as realistic as I like in the greater world-building, solutions always seemed to come a little too easily, and it got a little OTT on the sap, but friends to lovers is one of my most favorite tropes, and the author nailed that part.

Not sure I'm going to put any of the others on my TBR, but this was a super easy read that held my attention from beginning to end, and I have no regrets. (There was a time that wouldn't have felt like such a huge accomplishment...but, hoo boy, times have CHANGED)

Every once in while, when absolutely nothing on my TBR sounds good, I turn to the hockey boys to cheer me up. I can easily see coming back to this author next time that particular mood strikes.

“I love your face,” he said. I love you. I love looking at you. I’d only have hockey for about ten more years anyway, but you—I want to look at you for the rest of my life.”

I really enjoyed this. It was sweet and surprisingly emotional for a sports romance. Etienne and Adam are both hockey players and their romance features some of my favorite tropes: hookup-to-lovers, hurt/comfort, and grumpy/sunshine. Etienne is insecure because he’s been made fun of and called ugly his whole life. He can’t understand how a hot and popular guy like Adam could be interested in him. Yet Adam likes the fact that Etienne sees him for who he is and not just his looks or stardom. They go through some heavy stuff together—career-threatening injuries and family trauma—which gives their relationship real depth.

This author makes so confused that I don't know how to explain or review this. 😵❤

I loved this, I totally did, for the first 30% I thought that this was gona be a 3 stars read, then shit starting happening and suddenly I was crying because I was touched so much by all of it and then at the injustice of it, and at this point my brain was like: what the fuck is happening? How did she do it?!! Confused as hell I tell u!

Why was a 3 stars read at the beginning? Well the first part was badly affected by the writing and also by some confusing feelings that I think weren't delivered very smoothly. The characters had a very insta-love thing going on but they had their doubts, they had their issues that had to overcome so I was totally ok with it.

After thinking a lot my opinion is that this author has the power to create really good characters, with really firm personalities and with really relatable issues and insecurities. I also think she is a natural at making relationships seem real, raw and sweet, she creates couples that strongly complement each other and that's why she works and I'm always left loving her books even though there are problems on them.

THIS books isn't perfect but I have read some other of her works and I do think she has improved. I loved this because of Etienne and Adam and how they loved each other throughout the book (they got together early and never parted), so yeah, I'm seriously thinking of going through all her hockey stories.

I loved it! ❤❤🥰

MM Hockey Romance

DNF @ 37%

This book is soooo boring and odd like these two have a one night stand and when Adam tries to find Tenny after, Tenny will only text him because he doesn’t want Adam to see him in the light of day. Tenny thinks he’s ugly and that Adam won’t want him. So they have this weird texting friendship but then Adam gets a concussion and Tenny finds out that Adam put him down as an emergency contact. WTF.

Then Tenny nurses him back to health, helps him shower, shit and eat for 3 days. Intimately, helps a guy he’s only met in person once but has been texting with for a few months. Isn’t that a bit odd? I’ve been married almost 8 years and while I love my husband, him helping me shit, shower and eat would be hell so to do it with someone you just met? 🙄

Tenny is so in his head about his looks that it’s a bit much. Then there’s so much info being thrown at me, trying to introduce me to all these characters, what they look like, what position they play, who they are dating. I cannot. Yawn 🥱

DNF @ 50%

It is one am and at halfway I have no excitement about picking this up tomorrow so here we are.
The self-esteem issues of Etienne’s weren’t working for me, Adam’s concussion recovery was really unrealistic (tackling Etienne to the floor like three days post injury??), and I didn’t feel any chemistry between them.

I did laugh when Adam texted the MoMA instead of his mom though.

It’s 42% and the whole book thus far has been about Etienne’s obsession with being too ugly to date Adam. Come ON!

Yeah Adam got a concussion cuz he’s half blind in his left eye. Maybe needs to quit hockey and go into art… what is it with gay men and art????

The writing isn’t bad at all, but I just can’t wrap my head around a grown man who is a talented hockey player, who is dating another hot hockey player who’s been chasing him like crazy, having seen his “ugly mug” day in and day out, but said ugly hockey player can’t get over his looks.

Come ON! What is wrong with you!!

I can’t any more. There’s so much to be proud and confident about to be so stuck on his mug.

This was a cute story and I enjoyed it, but I think that has more to do with being obsessed with MM hockey romance than the book itself. The action starts very quickly as if it were a novella. The middle gets bogged down with extra characters and side plots that were a bit baffling and extraneous, making me question why they were included at all (Adam's sister and her husband, possibly they will be addressed in future but it was difficult to tell). The end was quite abrupt and felt unfinished after all that happened to slow the pace in the middle.
I liked the writing and thought the book was interesting, but don't feel inclined to go on to read more in the series.

4.5 awesome stars!

I’ve found another hockey author I can stalk! *cackle cackle* the question is, how come I didn’t find this author sooner?!? This was brilliant! Much better than some other hockey romances I’ve read before. Definitely going to devour the authors back catalogue 😆

The characters had depth. The characters definitely were likeable. Etienne, as insecure as he is, is still very likeable. I loved both the characters. I can’t believe I don’t even find perfect Adam annoying and thats definitely to the credit of the author. Balanced him really well, I’d say! 🤩

I really like this author. Definitely keeping an eye out for more of her work 😍

Hockey romance with communication? Yes, please.

I loved the relationship between Adam and Etienne, I loved the humor sprinkled throughout, and enjoyed the story, including the flow of it, and read it in only a few hours.

I had a couple of niggles, but they're small things: Adam's sister's confession, on her wedding day, that was just dismissed without letting the reader know how that went, and the ending felt rushed to me, though we get a nice happy for now ending. I would have liked a little more romance packed into the very end.

In all, I really enjoyed 'Blindside Hit' and will definitely pick up the next in the series when it comes out.

Fun and fast. Was this a realistic depiction of what a hockey team would be like. I would hope so but frankly I don't think so and it would be really surprising for almost everyone in any group to be gay. However, I didn't mind those things at all really because it allows for different sorts of conflict beyond just your teammates maybe being homophobic.

The relationship between Etienne and Adam started from almost the very beginning so if you like books that jump right into the relationship, you'd probably like this. I liked how they work through their issues with each other like adults and there were never any big miscommunications or fights. Some of the tension comes from very similar issues multiple times in the book with the plot line of a reoccurring injury but it was never so bad as to seem repetitive.

The side characters in this were also great and it seems like more about them will be explored possibly in later books. There are some mysteries about certain background characters that don't get resolved during this book that we don't even get many hints about but it wasn't such a problem that it distracted from the rest of the story.

I would definitely read more books set in this universe if more come out. I think this book was a very solid sports romance and I think the books could just get better and better from here.

I was on an MM hockey binge for a while there and then finally took a break. Then I randomly came across this book on my Kindle suggestions and BAM, right back into MM hockey. I really loved this. "Ugly" heroes are kinda my thing and this was a great addition to that trope's goodreads shelf. This series hasn't been followed up on which was pretty disappointing though.

I learned the author has a new pen name, following some drama, which might explain why she's been absent for a bit. Tierney Rose.

Fantastic - I want more!!

I’ll admit that I picked this up sheerly because I have a fondness for hockey books. At the time I got it, this had no reviews and I’d never heard of the author, but the blurb looked promising and hey - hockey.

WOW. I could not put this down! The characters felt so real. I laughed, I cried, and I literally read through my fingers at one point when something traumatic happened. It was beautifully written and well edited. I am going to pretty much instantly get any others in this series that come out.

"It's still you and me, baby. I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere."

The first 20% felt shallow and rushed, then it got better but for me seemed it would keep lacking emotion and chemistry. Surprise! I've read thousands of books so far, many extremely tragic and heartbreaking, but my face is like stone when it comes to fiction and a very few (less than 25 now) joined the very restrict list of books that made my eyes wet, and this one has a spot. Etienne and Adam have true love going on.

Whoa! This went from 0 to 100, so fast I didn't even understand what was going. I didn't get any feels from them hooking up how they did. I only read the first few chapters, but it felt like some kind of alternate hockey universe where everyone was gay and wasn't even trying to hide it---which would be nice of course---but hard to believe here.

Still there?
Yeah, Etienne sent. Just swooning from how romantic you are.

I really enjoyed this one! Etienne is a rising hockey star who is very self-conscious about his looks. His self worth needs some serious revamping - enter Adam.
Adam is higher up on his career ladder and known as one of the best looking hockey stars, and under it all a really wonderful person.

Seeing their relationship develop and the struggles they faced was lovely, especially because sometimes they were just so wonderfully soft with each other.

“Whoa. Did your closet explode?” His lips twitched. “There are easier ways to come out of it, you know.”

Good humour, great friendships and some hockey thrown in. Hoping there will be more in the series!

“Fuck him, and anyone else who says you’re not good enough, not perfect exactly as you are. It’s you and me. Hear me? You and me. We’re a team, and there’s not a single thing I would change about you. Nothing. You are perfect.”

Etienne Brideau thinks he's ugly, because his dad has always said he is, and thus has pretty low self esteem. Adam Caron is super hot. They hook up. Adam is pretty drunk and doesn't remember "Tenny"s name and inexplicably is still thinking about him a ton. They manage to get together again. Immediately fall in love. Play some vague hockey. Then Adam gets a bad concussion and Tenny takes care of him.

Idk this was fine. Lots of trauma and working through it. It is pretty cute but not swoony. I wouldn't reread this for warm feelings.

Rating - 3.5 stars rounded up

This one had some elements I really hated (the extreme focus on how "ugly" Etienne was for the entire first half of the book) and some elements that I absolute loved (basically the entire second half of the book and Etienne and Adam's relationship in general - no miscommunication, falling for one another as friends via text first, and how absolutely fucking soft they get with each other near the end 🥹).

Adam is wonderful and goes through.... A lot 😵‍💫 (trigger warnings for vision loss, some serious concussions and injuries + more).

I am really enjoying this series even if none of the books are "perfect". The hockey content, the injuries, the realistic characters with flaws and insecurities, the side characters 👌👌

This was a really good read. I liked the characters and how they worked together
As it was my first book from this author, I didn't know what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The one thing I would love to read are the stories of the Freezers... because there are a lot of couples which I want to see more of

Really glad I read it and I will definitely read this author again

This was fine! By comparison it's actually pretty good, but between the rhythmless POV changes and a sudden flood of terms of endearment at the end, it fell a little flat for me. I thought the 'I'm too ugly' plot at the front was a bit much (Coming from an ugly person: Just live your life, Etienne, Jesus.) but watching two people committed to each other offer unconditional support through various life complications and miseries was nice. I also liked Adam's family quite a bit, which was also nice!

This story was pretty good overall, though I felt like it was lacking in believable connection between Tens and Adam. Their romance felt underdeveloped, like maybe it happened off-page and I missed it? It wasn't bad, it was more...flat. I was more intrigued by Eli and Noemi's clear dramatic happenings than much of Tens and Adam by that point in the book.
