Either way, I woke up in Hell, and that's not even the worst part.
It turns out, this Hell is being terrorized by an evil Wraith King, who also happens to control a portal that could bring me back to our world.
So here I am, preparing for battle against an army of ten thousand wraiths, Hellhounds, and sorcerers.
Even with a succubus and an army of warrior elves by my side, I still don't know if we stand a chance.
Warning: Wraith King is a medieval portal fantasy intended for mature readers 18+. It contains explicit relationships with multiple women in a harem, as well as medieval warfare, nudity, and sensuous warrior females who find Jon to be different from the men of their world. And while Jon finds himself having more fun in Hell than he would have imagined, the dangers are real, with blood, violence, and epic battle scenes galore.
Fun book! A bit dirty, BUT FAR LESS SO THAN I THOUGHT LOL
This book is a really fun, very short, heroic fantasy read. It is DEFINITELY a 17yr+ “type” of book, but it is NOT simply a “sex book” in the style of a serialized fantasy novel. What it IS is a clearly written, straightforward “racy romance fantasy novel,” written in a serialized form which fits the Amazon Prime release principles. Also, a damn good read.
You can read the book, ding to dong, in a sitting (3-4 hours..,) then pick up Book 2, which is already published in Prime. If you are looking for Doestevsky, look elsewhere. If your soul craves candy, and a feel-good distraction from the daily nightmare of Cthothian corruption we are ALL living through in “real life,” this is as good a way to distract from a “real” nightmare, which apparently has yet seen bottom, by describing a fictional one that one moves quickly through, heroically, almost accidentally lol, towards what seems a brighter tomorrow.
Punctuated by the occasional teen boy fever dream of sex with elves, succubi, etc. Oh, and dragonlslaying ;)
Fairly standard, but good Transported to another world, Hero of prophecy, sex scenes. light harem (multiple lovers, no wives). This book has a likeable MC, who is not ridiculously overpowered. Some interesting world building. The female characters are not two dimensional, but they keep the back story to a minimum. The author tells us this is a matriarchal world, but then doesn't develop that idea.
Our protagonist Jon wakes up in another world full of elves, wraiths, and assorted demons. Why the author chose to call this other world Hell is a mystery. I imagine because the Wraith King lived there. Our boy Jon gets involved, deeply involved I must say, with several of the elven females and a succubus he happens to rescue. Always a good thing to rescue a succubus. Anyway, the wraiths and elves have been fierce enemies for millennia. As long as Jon is stuck in Hell looking for a way back home he may as well help the elves in their perennial war. In between gallant acts and heroic feats, there is always R&R with the ladies. An excellent start to a new series. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I have just finished book one of this the series and it was exell. The characters are well done and written so you want them to succeed in their efforts. Jon finds himself in He'll with no idea ow he got there he seems to have magical powers but no idea how to use them. I'm anxious to read book 2!
I really enjoyed this book. Interesting take on calling this world Hell. Enjoyed the build up of the MC slowly developing his powers. Well paced read. Looking forward to reading book 2.
As required by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and Audible.com requirements, I am disclosing that I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request. I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.
“Wraith King” was initially released two and a half years ago with a solo narrator (Chris Graves). The audiobook has been re-released with duet narration. Melanie Hastings does an absolutely fantastic job. TJ McKenzie effected an odd (to me) accent, which took awhile to get used to. I’d previously listened to his narration of Apocalypse Core, and I preferred the voice he used for that book. Interestingly, TJ is the announcer for each chapter change, and he uses his “normal” voice for those. So TJ uses Wraith King as an opportunity to show he can do multiple male voices; not a bad thing for a voice actor.
The story follows MC Jon after he awakes in a medieval world replete with non-humans. There’s an evil necromancer who, during the course of his centuries of power, has transformed the world from a lush, green paradise to one actually called “Hell”. Jon frees a succubus and an elf from slavers, earning their gratitude and lust. Jon vacillates between wanting to find a way to return to New Jersey, and wanting to help his new friends and the last stronghold of free elves defeat the evil necromancer. Now, personally, I’ve been to New Jersey, so staying to help the elves would be an easy choice for me. J/K…J/K….no hate mail, please!!!
The plot does sound similar to many other isekai adventures, but given that the story was published on Kindle in July of 2019 I credit the author with writing something rather unusual and creative for the time!
Wraith King has held up well as a story and I’m glad that the new audiobook treatment gives it the modern polish it deserves. Book 2 is currently available as an audiobook, and I’m looking forward to Jon, Ilana (the succubus) and Nya (the elf) enjoying their night camping as they march to save elf guard Syn from her captors! There’s a total of four books available on Kindle, and I hope they all get some audio love. 5* for Wraith King.
Obviously a lot of people liked this book. I found it to be the literary equivalent of a 15 year old's wet dream with thinly veiled stolen scenes from Lord of the Rings (the movie, not the book). First book ends on a cliffhanger. By the end, I didn't care what happened to any of the characters. I found them all to be extremely two dimensional. Unless you're really into unbelievable sex scenes (seriously? You open the sneaky sneaky gate to go destroy your enemies and have a long sexual encounter while standing there with the sneaky sneaky gate wide open while your city is under seige??) and lots of tropes, this is not worth any amount of money.
The book has a very simple plotline and kind of reads like a first draft the the beginning of the story being a bit two dimensional. The main character and supporting cast get better fleshed out as you read it, but at the same time the plot becomes a bit confusing and snaps back on track with quick explanations of plot lines. Not a bad book just more like first draft attempt at times.
I really enjoyed this read, the characters were interesting and well-developed, the setting has a lot of potential and I really like Jon’s relationship with Nya and Ilana. I hope they find Syn in the next book. That and Jon finally has his way fully with Nya. If you like fantasy and erotica, then this’s for you.
This is good book with lots of both romance and action. It is also epic in scope and therefore features a lot of struggle for the MC. Allergen alert: strong women
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
Great, evocative writing, here! Many of the recent works that I've read have been good but, lacking in detail. Like the difference in watching a show on an old black and white TV versus watching it on a 4k curved UHD screen with full cinematic surround sound. I really enjoyed this work by Mr. Porter. He has created a rich, fun fantasy world.
This was a fun enough read with a really interesting premise and world that our MC finds himself in. The ladies he meets along the way are developed somewhat but not quite enough for my liking. I got through each book fairly quick and I was definitely entertained, although the narrator was a bit cringe at times.
I really enjoyed the setting of this story. It was entertaining and fun. The author did a really good job setting up the Orlando and his characters. I am ready for the next book.
Great sword and sorcery epic. Origin story as one man from our world hurtles into a land called Hell and becomes involved with Dark Elves and an Succubus. They think he is the promise of a Ruler to defeat the Wraith King, while Jon thinks he's ' just another guy'.
This was a great start to the series. The story develops very well and the character development is detailed and balanced well with the action. I'm definitely impressed and looking forward to the next book!!
The was a great opening for a new story. Pacing is nice and the characters are well thought out. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of this series.
Again it distracted me from the yawning oblivion that will one day consume all living creatures, but I feel maybe the time could have been better spent.
