Captain of my heart by Karla Kratovil was about a sea captain and a pirates daughter. Jack the sea captain is asked to take Vivian the pirates daughter to England for her to marry and also be safe from her dads enemy. It was a great beginning I loved the journey to England but when we get to London it was a bit slow for me but then it picked up about 70 percent in the book. I wasn’t able to put it down from that point on. In fact it was a 3:00 in the morning read. I got no sleep. 😂. The characters were really solid and well developed. There was suspense, action, and romance. I ended up loving this book.

This is book took me out of my comfort zone and I actually enjoyed it.. and I will definitely be rereading it..

I'm not a fan of pirate/privateer stories.. I actually tend to avoid them.. I can actually count on one hand the amount of books and authors who have been able to capture and hold my attention with a pirate/privateer story.. and just those, this one held my attention throughout the entire story to the point that I stayed involved an entire day just to finish it..

The way Karla Kratovil did this story I absolutely loved it!

Jack and Vivian meet when he takes her to England at the request by her father and sparks are instant despite the fact that they shouldn't have feelings for each other because her father excepts her to find a gentleman and become a lady.. however a year apart does nothing to dim that spark.. if anything it makes that spark even stronger.. and now that they are at a house party.. they can't avoid their feelings nor can they avoid each other.. and what's more they don't want to anymore..

From a ship to a house party with a tad bit of espionage, and slow burn.. you can't help but fall in love with this story and the characters..

I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Loved this story of sea captain Jack Aston and pirate's daughter Vivian Jamieson. Brought together by Vivian's father, and warned to not get involved, these two cannot stop their attraction. Intriguing story that keeps you turning the pages.

I received a free copy of Captain of My Heart in exchange for an honest review. This was my first time reading a book by Karla Kratovil, and I was pleasantly surprised. She did a great job with plot and character development without being over ding the drama. It was always about Jack and Vivian. Even the dramatic scenes were well introduced and quickly resolved. It was a great pace, and I absolutely adored Jack, and his in wavering feelings for Vivian. She was certainly a handful, but Jack was just what she needed.

Overall, this was a quick and easy read that I would recommend to friends and family. I am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Kratovil.

As a favour for the pirate who once saved his life, jaded sea captain Jack Aston agrees to ferry the man’s outspoken daughter from Jamaica to England. While her spirit and daring captivate him, he must keep the petite spitfire at arm’s length or risk her becoming embroiled in his latest mission for the crown. Vivian Jamieson is not happy being shipped off to England to visit her aunts, even if it is to protect her from her father’s enemies. She may be a fish out of water in the London ballrooms but she’s a natural at espionage. Together she and Jack track down a traitor and battle a murderous pirate.
The first book in the series, it was originally released a while ago but has been updated. I loved both Jack & Vivi, their chemistry sizzled but he was trying to be a gentleman! Absence does make the heart stronger Then things ramp up when the villain appears. A well written romance with wonderful characters, a fast paced story, sizzling chemistry & great grovelling. I thoroughly enjoyed it

Loved this read! I did not want to put it down. And a major plus that Vivian's free spirit and independence and unladylike grit felt genuine as opposed to a female mc who THINKS she's tough but fails to back it up. I thoroughly enjoyed hers and Jack's chemistry, and I cannot wait to read both Andrew and Caroline's stories!

When Robert Jamieson’s nemesis is released from prison, he sends his daughter to London to keep her safe from his clutches. Captain Jack escorts Vivian on his ship, but when feelings start to blossom between the two of them, it’s a boulder they can’t stop from rolling down a hill. She is sucked into Jack’s mission, into the very heart of danger. Full of secrets, danger, and love, Captain of My Heart is a book you won’t be able to put down once you pick it up.

This was one of those books that you feel sad at the end because it ended. I was pulled into the story and never wanted to come back out. The book was filled with intense scenes that had me holding my breath. I loved the interactions between Jack and Vivian. There was great chemistry between them. The slow burn romance was perfectly paced, with adorable scenes that had me laughing and smiling like an idiot.

I loved Vivian’s character. She’s feisty and can handle her own. She has the mouth of a sailor and an unyielding spirit always up for adventure. Only she would be brazen enough to punch a titled lord. Which, by the way, she did a few times. And not the same lord either.

What a great story! This is definitely one of my favorite books that I have read this year.

I absolutely enjoyed this sea-faring ex-pirate captain’s daughter and the British gentleman turned enterprising captain and spy romance. Oh my! It’s both pirates and espionage set amongst the ton with one very spirited wild lady who is not afraid to take any measure that needs to be taken to accomplish what needs to get done. Renowned ex-pirate Captain Robert Jamison needs to get his daughter, Vivian “Vivi”, away from Jamaica and safely in England away from his enemy Pierre Dubois. He tells her he’s sending her and her companion Gabrielle to her aunts to have a season to find a husband and he’s called in an old debt owed him by Captain Jack Aston to get them safely there. It’s an instant attraction that grows once the close proximity of the ship settles around them but Jack must remain true to his mission to see Vivian safely to England and he believes she deserves more than what he has to offer. By the time the ship reaches England Vivian’s heart is fairly already Jack’s but thinks maybe it’s all one-sided so she compromises with friendship through letter writing as he sails away. There’s just something special about handwritten notes and as the intrigue with Dubois picks up and Jack’s family responsibilities bring him back to England and his espionage role finds him doing surveillance at his own family’s house party with Vivian in attendance, the intrigue and the romance begin to explode off the pages. The chemistry between Jack and Vivian is electrifying and undeniable and I could have read more of their adventures together for many more hours. Some of my favorite scenes were his first glimpse of her, the rescue on the boat, the first kiss, the purchasing of the puppy as an apology, him interrupting her dance lesson and all the scenes with his little nephews were adorable. I thought the book to be well written and flowed easily with plenty of action and dialogue to keep my attention from chapter to chapter, beginning to end. As a warning it does have its steamy moments and these sea-faring characters did not filter their words with often land-clumsy, injury-prone Vivian spouting quite a few choice words in the English variety of her own.

I’ve discovered a new fondness for fatherly matchmaking, and the craftier they are, the better!
For this reformed pirate dad, it isn’t his main concern, but it would be a very welcome side-effect...

Vivian – 22, born and raised in the Caribbean, force of nature with fairy princess looks, swears like a sailor, comes with a sketchpad, 2 left feet, breeches and a deadly aim.
Jack – 32, runaway blueblood with nine lives, dashing sea captain, self-made man, occasional spy, comes with slutty little glasses and a sudden appetite for forbidden fruit.

When she’s shipped off to London under the guise of a Social Season, he’s her father’s hand-picked delivery boy – and it just so happens Jack owes his family a long-overdue visit anyway.
Ship shenanigans are always a hoot – close quarters, simmering attraction, storms and heroic rescues – and this voyage delivers!

Vivian and her adopted sister (who gets her own very sweet sideline romance) safely in England, Jack takes to the high seas once more. Nothing like a stiff sea breeze to clear a foolish, impossible, all-consuming infatuation, right?
But she writes him – for a year – and he answers. I love epistolary hearts slowly entwining!
And V’s season is a diverting disaster with a new BFF bonus 😉

Then mom calls him home, the Crown wants a favour and a house party is thrown. Plus, don’t forget, there’s still a vengeful pirate on the loose. The rest is for you to discover!

This book is a debut novel re-release; it still has a few firstborn hick-ups, but boy, oh boy, was it excellent, delicious fun! It’s not perfect, but it felt fresh and cheeky the way only debut novels do – and that gorgeous clinch cover alone was enough to convince me to pick it up.
I laughed, swoonfully sighed, yelled “idiot!” a couple of times and held my breath as the thrilling end unfolded. I loved the way I forgot where I was while reading, and that’s really all I look for in a good book.

Bonus: the other two books in the series are re-releasing this year as well, and I can’t wait!

Captain of My Heart swept me from sun-soaked Jamaica straight into the glittering chaos of the London Season, & I loved every minute of this island-hopping, spy‑tinged, pirate-adjacent adventure.

Vivian “Vivi” Jamieson is an ex‑pirate captain’s daughter who can out-swear any sailor, trip over her own hems, & still charm every man within reach. Captain Jack Aston; once a gentleman, now a ship captain, shipping magnate, & occasional spy - owes her father a life debt. He’s supposed to deliver Vivi safely to her aunts in London…...not fall headfirst into feelings he absolutely cannot act on. (Spoiler: he has them. In abundance.)

Their chemistry sparks long before they reach England - all smoldering glances, accidental closeness, and Jack’s “I must remain honorable” nonsense that fools no one. Vivi’s heart is already his, while he convinces himself she deserves a man with fewer secrets and a father who wouldn’t kill him. He sails away but agrees to write. And oh, the letters - nothing like long-distance yearning to turn a captain into a puddle.

Once espionage, danger, and one determined villain crash into the story, the romance goes from simmer to full boil. House parties, surveillance missions, stolen moments, dance‑lesson interruptions, and a puppy purchased as an apology (10/10 groveling). His scenes with his nephews? Adorable. Their first kiss? Fireworks. The rescue at sea? I clutched my imaginary pearls.

This book is fun, fast, and full of heart, with enough action, banter, and steam to keep me flipping pages like I was racing the tide. Vivi and Jack are the kind of couple you want to follow for another whole voyage. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Breath-Taking Adventurous Pirate Romance
Don't miss this amazing love story. There is not one dull moment to be found.
Vivian is a pirate's daughter and not a girl that you can out fox. Intelligent, strong willed, and desirable especially to Jack.
Jack is a prate filling a request for an old friend. Take his daughter to England so she can find a husband. Sometimes things don't go as planned.
I found this story delightful and filled with excitement and the electrifying charismatic sparks between Jack and Vivi is fan worthy.
Their journey is filled with family issues, espionage, friends, mystery and of course passionate desire that captured my heart, but
just when you think the happy ending is here. Think again, there is much more to be solved,
The ending is extremely rewarding for this reader.

Our hero is sea captain Jack Aston who has an obligation to repay. He agrees to transport a pirate’s daughter from Jamaica to England. It is a difficult situation as she spirited and bold. She keeps him distracted. He is drawn to this little spitfire but has his own secret to keep, that he is in fact an agent of the crown. Vivian Jamieson is the daughter of a pirate who is being shipped off to England to visit her aunts and she is seriously displeased. She does not know that it is for her own protection. Her father has dangerous enemies. Jack and Vivian work together to overcome some obstacles along the way.
They also experience an immediate powerful spark. Even though her father is determined that she herself a gentleman husband and become a true lady. Over a period of time apart they collide again at a house party where they can't ignore their feelings or each other anymore. It is an exciting journey to their HEA. This is a fabulous read with a satisfying ending.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book, as this was my first time reading this author. I'm very glad I decided to give it a chance.

The story is well written and packed with action, engaging characters, and a wonderfully courageous heroine. Vivian immediately drew me in with her fiery temperament and zest for life. She is a character who refuses to be overlooked and brings energy to every scene she is in.

Captain Jack is equally compelling. Haunted by his past and determined to become a better man, he finds himself unable to resist his attraction to Vivian, even when they are separated by oceans. Their connection remains a strong thread throughout the story.

There are several plotlines woven through the book, all of which converge satisfyingly towards the end. Despite the complexity, everything flows naturally and kept me turning the pages to see how it would all come together.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author, as well as spending more time with this fascinating family.

I received a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. Vivian has grown up with an unconventional life with her pirate of a father. Now she is being sent to England to stay with her aunts and find a husband befitting the granddaughter of an earl. Her father has chosen Jack to escort her. I love that the characters actually had a chance to know each other and while their was an immediate attraction it wasn't insta-love. Vivian was a fun character brace and bold and not willing to let any man or woman get away with being a sucky excuse for a human being. Jack was sweet and I loved how he feel so hard for vivian. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

2026 edition. I really liked this one. A fun sea faring adventure. Vivian Jamieson is an ex pirates daughter and her father wants her to go to England to visit her family and to find a husband who is of a gentleman class and Vivian would rather stay in Jamaica. Her father calls in sea captain Jack Astons favor and asks him to escort Vivian to England. Jack is also a sometimes spy so with Vivian’s father’s enemy about things are about to get crazy. Can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Wow! This is my first time reading a novel from Karla Kratovil and I was not disappointed. Full of drama, sex and romance, what more can a girl want?

Vivian, the daughter of a pirate turned merchant captain is whisked away to England on her father’s orders, by the dashing sea captain, Jack Landon. It isn’t long before they develop feelings for each other and a roller coaster of emotions between them start.

You will not be disappointed if you read this novel.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a decent pirate romance. Vivian is the daughter of a pirate who sends her away in order to keep her safe from an old enemy. Her father entrusts her to Jack who is immediately attracted to her and fights his feelings. They both embark on a journey to England where Jack falls more in love with her bravery and beauty. They meet the obstacles ahead together.
Overall, it was nothing remarkable but a sweet, easy read.

A determined, outspoken and courageous herione and a dashing, secretive and principaled hero. Together their chemistry is fizzy and electric and it jumps off the pages so well. A classic tale of secrets buried not so deep, twists that keep you guessing and a love story that we are routing for. The dialogue between Jack and Vivian was lively and well paced. A great weekend read to forget your troubles and escape to a world of pirates and high English society.

This is a very steamy story about a pirate's daughter living in Jamaica and a sea captain. Vivi is very independent and strong woman. Her father gets Jack, the Captain to take her aboard his ship to get her out of Jamaica because a bad guy is on the loose. This book is slow burn as it takes a while for them to become a couple. But the wait is worth it. It also has a very sweet epilogue.

My first from this author! I have one more by this author I want to read too.

Overall this book was good and decently fun. I liked the setting and the premise. However, there were way to many POV switches and a lot of the action happened off page. Made me really struggle to connect with the characters.
