Seeing Red

The queen of epic plot twists is back with yet another—bold, highly addictive, fast-paced, in-your-face—suspense novel riddled with delicious tension and an underlying sexiness. I dare you to even attempt to savor this one. No matter how hard I tried to pace myself, I just couldn’t do it. I devoured her words like a bag of my very favorite guilty pleasure—sweet, ooey-gooey, melty and warm peanut butter M&M’s.
Whether you’re a diehard Sandra Brown fan, like I consider myself to be, or if she’s a new to you author, I’m pretty confident her latest offering will have you seeing anything other than red. Well, I guess I should add a disclaimer—unless you’re a reader that gets a little heated when you find out you’ve been duped. Lets be honest though, does that ever happen? I mean, who wants a predictable plot?
John Trapper, the brazen and rough-around-the-edges guy (yum!) at the heart of this story has been seeing red since the day hewas forced out of left the ATF. Once a top agent and now a washed-up private detective with a stubborn streak, he's estranged from his famous father and wallowing in his reputation of being a burnout that couldn't hack it. His biggest source of contention, the questionable circumstances surrounding the tragedy that thrust his father into the limelight. The Major became a national hero after an award-winning picture was captured of him rescuing a group of people, including an innocent 5-year-old little girl, in the aftermath of a hotel bombing; think cover of TIME magazine memorable. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the bombing is approaching and Kerra, a well-known national news reporter, is looking to land the interview of all interviews—a sit down with The Major. The problem, he’s stopped all appearances and become somewhat of a recluse. Is Kerra's only chance at getting to The Major through Trapper?
Attempted murder, kidnapping, a host of shady characters and my personal favorite—smart and snarky banter—made this unputdownable. While the entire storyline is intriguing, it was Trapper and Kerra together that left me giddy with anticipation. The intensity, innuendoes and Trapper's bluntness . . . I just couldn't get enough. The tension was taut, the ride was wild and the ending was gratifying. Sandra Brown, the author that loves to flip the script, nails the perfect balance of suspense and romance again. As if I had any doubts; there's a reason she's one of my favorites.

As a LONG time Sandra Brown fan, I was beyond excited to get this ARC.
BEYOND.
So let me just say that I am so, so, SO relieved to have enjoyed this thing.
For real though.
I have been reading hardcore since I was nine years old.
And I started picking up books by my favorite classic romance authors when I was 12...my mother passed away that year and romance and fantasy novels offered an escape from pain that no 12 year old is emotionally equipped to face.
I'm not trying to get emo here or anything, I'm just laying the scene for you all...and explaining why a father would buy his daughter dirty romance books at age 12 LOL...He obviously had no idea what he was buying and he just wanted to make me happy.
But anyunderagesexing.
These authors - Linda Howard, Johanna Lindsey, Judith McNaught, Heather Graham, Julie Garwood, Jude Deveraux, Virginia Henley, Bertrice Small, Elizabeth Lowell, and of course, Sandra Brown - well, they were my squad, man.
They and their stories gave me an escape from life and made me feel like I had something to look forward to - as reading does for us all, no?
Needless to say, 23 years later, some of these authors have sadly passed away...some have stopped writing entirely...and some are putting out books that are just plain crap, quite frankly.
Now, I am not a published author. Obviously LOL.
I can only imagine how difficult it must be to come up with story after story, year after year.
So it brings me total and complete joy to still love the contemporary offerings of one of my all time favorites.
In Seeing Red, while the plot did have some slow points here and there, the characters were well fleshed out and the story moved forward at an exciting pace. Brown keeps you guessing until the very end.
You understand the characters and their motivations and it is ALL by showing and never telling.
In short, Brown is just a master storyteller.
I will always be a total Brown fan and as long as she puts out book, I will continue to read them.

So I’ve been on a SB binge for some time now. The truth is, I had to take a break from contemporary romance for a while. Stories became repetitive, plots worn out, endings predictable, characters flat, emotions fake, writing styles simplistic and clichéd. Or so it felt like it.
Ever seen Groundhog Day? If you have, then you know what I'm talking about. Lather, rinse, repeat. The same story over and over and over again.
Or maybe, I’m the problem. I see a hyped book on my feed and I can’t resist. I buy it and hello disappointment...
So what’s so special about Brown’s books?
Honestly? Nothing. They are just good. Good meaning great, NOT average. The woman just knows how to write good books. You see, I don’t really need headless creatures, WTF plots ofsupposedly epic proportions, whips, chains and some earth-shattering, weird shit in order to enjoy myself. I don't need to be shocked to like a story. I just need a good ole story: a well-written story with well-portrayed characters and a strong, plausible plot.
And I know that, when I open a new SB book, I’m getting a non-recycled, super interesting story with a diverse set of characters: an intelligent, strong heroine, a yummy hero with the just right amount of possessiveness and sexy brooding and a rich gallery of secondary characters.
Ironically, I used to avoid romantic suspense and thrillers because there was not enough romance in them. But Brown’s books are hot as hell. Sure, there may be less romantic elements in them but there’s that underlying sexiness and delicious tension that a lot of romance books lack despite explicit sex scenes. You know that saying, it’s all about quality, not quantity.
I love Brown’s writing style. Her vocabulary is rich, her storytelling compelling. And I always learn a new word or two. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I learned English in school as a foreign language. And what better way to learn new words and improve your reading skills than through your favorite pastime?

Calling all Sandra Brown fans..!
A bombing at the Pegasus Hotel in Dallas 25 years ago forever changes the lives of father and son. The father, Major Franklin Trapper becomes a hero in the eyes of the world. While son John, known to all by Trapper, is left behind in more ways than one. Now, on the anniversary of the bombing, Kerra, a reporter in Dallas wants to interview the Major. But with no access, she approaches his son Trapper to hopefully open doors to his father.
Her motivation for the meeting is more than just an interview. She has her own connection to that fateful day.
Trapper does not want the Interview to take place. He fears it will once again place the spotlight back on his father - putting his life, and likely Kerra's in danger. The burden to keep everyone safe is now squarely on Trapper’s shoulders. Which is difficult when he believes the guilty party was never brought to justice in the first place.
The perfect amount of suspense to keep the pages turning with just a bit of romance for those that enjoy a little heat between the pages. As Always Sandra Brown delivers both perfectly. Easy to follow and lots of action to hold your attention. Great surprises you'll never see coming! Highly recommend for all Sandra Brown fans!

This is a story that is full of suspense and thrills, set in Texas with a washed up, seeing red, private detective, John Trapper, who quit the ATF prior to being fired. Kerra is an up and coming TV journalist with a secret history that goes back 25 years to the bombing of the Pegasus Hotel in Dallas that claimed the lives of so many. John is the estranged son of Major Franklin Trapper, a man who became a national hero when he was captured in an award winning photograph bringing out a child and others from the chaos of the bombed Pegasus Hotel. Kerra approaches a reluctant John to smooth the path to interviewing the Major who is now a recluse. He refuses until he learns of Kerra's secret, which persuades the Major to agree to a televised interview. This event turns out to stir a hornet's nest as Kerra barely survives a scenario in which the Major is shot.
John whose life at 11 years old years old changed radically with his father's fame, was investigating the hotel bombing whilst working at the ATF, his certainty that there was more to the bombing than was uncovered led to him parting ways with the ATF. He now renews his interest in the case looking to protect both his father and Kerra, now targets for shadowy ruthless figures. After a difficult beginning, John and Kerra join forces as they attempt to evade the attempts on their lives and other desperate dangers. They are the focus of attention of both the local police and other law enforcement agencies such as the Texas Rangers and the FBI. Aided by the shady lawyer, Rime Carson, John investigates amidst a host of suspects, betrayal, deeply buried conspiracies, whilst trying to stay alive and finding his relationship with Kerra deepening to become significantly more serious.

After looking at Sandra Brown's books so many times I have finally taken the plunge and read her new upcoming book Seeing Red and have now read my first romantic suspense in a very long time. I usually shy away from anything romantic but curiosity got the best of me and I gave this one a try and I am glad I did.
Seeing Red is a suspenseful, sizzling web of conspiracies, plenty of suspects and motives with danger lurking behind many twists and turns and as usual for me I never saw anything coming. It has some heat and tension in there to keep things hot on the romantic side of the story.
When I first met Trapper he intrigued me with his so charming but dangerous vibe and he did capture my attention when he meets strong, I am going to tell you a secret Kerra and I could feel the heat between them, but that was enough heat for this non-romantic soul. Things got a little too heated for me and I found myself skimming over the steaming parts. Even though I skimmed over those parts the plot to this complex story demanded my full attention and there was no skimming allowed there.
Sandra Brown does a good job keeping those twists and turns coming and keeping them interesting right up to the shocking end. I am sure that will keep the best thriller detectives working on their detective skills. I highly recommend Seeing Red for romantic suspense lovers. However for this non-romantic I rate it 3.5 for my enjoyment.

Pictures that capture iconic or heroic moments in time are etched into our consciousness, conjuring the emotions and trauma of an event, cementing it in our minds forevermore. The image of Major Franklin Trapper leading a small number of people from a bombed out hotel, captured his brave act of heroism, adding it to those iconic images, and catapulted him to enormous fame.
Now, years later, ambitious and dedicated journalist, Kerra Bailey has her heart set on interviewing the Major. But, he’s not answering her calls. As a last resort, she contacts his estranged son, Trapper, hoping he can help get her foot in the door.
Her plan works, despite Trapper’s blunt rudeness, but once Kerra gets her chance, it turns deadly when she and the Major are attacked inside his home. The logical motive behind the ambush must have something to do with the decades old bombing and the fear that Kerra’s interview might unearth long buried secrets and corruption.
Trapper, a former ATF agent, once on the brink of discovering who was behind the hotel bombing, that made his father famous, but also drove a wedge between them, is determined to keep Kerra safe, while hopefully solving the decades old crime that cost so many people their lives.
This story has a sophisticated plot, tapping on a few timely themes, solving not one, but two horrendous crimes. One, the cold case, which is long overdue for justice and the present -day crimes connected to it.
For Kerra, the interview with the Major, could make her a superstar, but it’s much more personal that anyone realizes. It’s personal for Trapper as well, but he doesn’t want to let on how worried he is about his father or how much he cares about Kerra.
As the pair join forces, they begin to uncover a shocking trail of greed, coercion, and abuse of power. The twists come at a rapid -fire pace, with skill and cunning precision.
There are plenty of thought provoking characterizations, all well-defined and full of conflict and festering resentments. The bad guys chilled me to the bone with their unapologetic lack of remorse, twisted and manipulative mind games, and lust for power and control.
The romance between Trapper and Kerra may be rocky, but it’s blazing hot! I loved the dialogue and banter between the couple, and despite Trapper’s lack of apparent sentimental charm, I couldn’t stay mad at him for long, and mostly got a kick out his frank appraisals and remarks.
Sandra Brown has romantic suspense writing down to a science. Her fans want and expect edgy plotlines and high -heat romance, and she more than delivers with this novel. But, even if you don’t enjoy reading romance, there is a perfect balance of the two elements, so that it will appeal to a broader audience and to anyone who simply wants to enjoy a good old fashioned thriller.
Sandra Brown is a ‘go to’ author for me, and has been for years. Her books just keep getting better and better!

Sandra Brown has romantic suspense writing down to a science. Her fans want and expect edgy plotlines and high -heat romance, and she more than delivers with this novel. But, even if you don’t enjoy reading romance, there is a perfect balance of the two elements, so that it will appeal to a broader audience and to anyone who simply wants to enjoy a good old fashioned thriller.
Sandra Brown is a ‘go to’ author for me, and has been for years. Her books just keep getting better and better!

It sort of pains me to do this review. Honestly, I was a l little disappointed with it. I guess, having read nearly 60 SB books, you have to have one or two duds. Not that this was a dud, per se, but it was a little disappointing. The Prologue was fabulous and maybe I was expecting the whole book to be as fantastic as that.
I never really warmed to either character. Not even Trapper who should usually tick my boxes. Alpha, asshole.
I am stealing your Trapper, Karen.
I had some family stuff going on and travelled to Ireland twice in the space of a week so maybe I was just too knackered to appreciate it. Saying that, it was nowhere near as good as ENVY, CHILL FACTOR or some of her other books so, honestly I don't feel bad giving it a lower rating.
I had sussed out some of the twists and turns. Usually SB has me on the edge of my seat. Not this time.
Sex scenes seemed a bit more friskier than her previous books!! Or maybe I am imagining it.
Sorry I cannot be more gushing about it. I think, this time, it was a case of "it's me, not you."!!
I'll get to bed early and get my mojo back soon.

Another fabulous read from the amazing Sandra brown!!! This was one hell of a read,even after writing so many books Sandra still has books that knock my socks off and seeing red had all the things I come to expect! Kerra and trappers chemistry was off the charts and both of these characters were so beautifully layered with writing that flowed flawless and plenty of action and intrigue!! Awesome storyline and the sex so HOT 🔥🔥🔥!! I've been reading Sandra brown books for years and very few writers are truly master's of their genre's but Sandra knocks it out of the park everytime!!! I won this from a Goodreads giveaway!!💖💋

First off, I would like to sincerely thank Netgalley for the rare and precious ARC! I don't get them often, so imagine my thrill when I saw this baby!
I will start out by saying that I am a huge fan of Sandra Brown and her gritty romance murder mysteries. But I want you to know that I'm not going to slap a 5 star rating up there just because I love the author's previous books, and because I am grateful for receiving this early release. (even though I am! ...grateful that is.) I going to do it because she has yet again delivered a gripping and emotionally charged story that led me down the primrose path, thinking I had it all worked out and then once again pulling the rug out from under my feet.
This was a very unique and intriguing storyline. One that would make a gripping movie. The kind you can on get from SB.
Loved the characters. Even though I'm not a fan of reporters or newscasters of any kind, Kerra Bailey still managed to get under my skin and provoke a bit of empathy. Although I would have like to strangle her boss.
John Trapper definitely didn't disappoint. He was classic, Sandra Brown alpha male down to his very core. And even to the very last sentence of the book he had me completely entranced. He was the typical tragic hero with more pride and intelligence than any one man should possess. There were some rare but fabulous sex scenes, and more than enough sexual tension to satisfy.
If you were following my updates... there was a moment there when I thought I had it all figured out. And I was already dropping my rating for making the story so transparent. But then things started to unravel a bit. Now I wouldn't say that it was a WOW-type of blow your mind kind of ending, but it definitely caught me off guard. And for that reason, I'm giving SB full marks on this one.
So, in an effort to keep this review spoiler-free, I'm going to end it there. If you are a SB fan, you're going to love this one. If you're not familiar with her books but love a good murder mystery/romance story, you'll soon find yourself a SB fan. And you'll have plenty of great books to look forward to.

Damn … spoke too soon!
No sooner did I close my review of Sandra Brown’s thriller OUTFOX with the effusive praise,
“I’ve officially added Sandra Brown to my short list of authors guaranteed as a go-to solution to lift you out of a reading funk or to fix the downside after-effects of DNFs, wall-bangers, or simply suffering through a depressing or disappointing 1- or 2-star dog!”
than I feel like I’m left with little choice than to rate my latest Sandra Brown reading as the very 2-star dog I was talking about!
SEEING RED is “too” - too long, too slow, too complex, too ugly and too angry. There isn’t a single character in the entire novel (including the obvious lead male and female who are endlessly entwined in Sandra Brown’s inevitable sweaty underlying romance) that will evoke even a modest amount of understanding, sympathy, or mental support. The lead male, a disgraced ATF agent forced to resign his position before he was actually fired, is a sarcastic wise-ass whose words never reflect the slightest measure of common sense, compassion or serious understanding. But, unlike Nelson DeMille’s John Corey, for example, the sarcasm is wasted because it’s never funny or witty. It’s Don Rickles’ style hate on steroids. He also happens to be a self-entitled dirtbag with a steamer trunk full of emotional baggage, a narcissistic misogynist who thinks foreplay and sexual assault are interchangeable activities, and (IMO) a rapist who thinks lack of dissent is consent (if indeed he ever concerns himself at all with such a pointless issue as female consent).
And as to the female lead of the piece? Well, suffice it to say that her self esteem seems to have taken a vacation as she accepts this male crap and ultimately comes to welcome it.
How about the plot? Well, we’re talking some serious, truly despicable, and entirely loathsome criminality here that is spread out through a significant portion of SEEING RED’s list of characters. But, for my money, nobody is really brought to heel and made to pay in a way that I would see as just and meaningful.
Sandra Brown is a prolific author. There’s no doubt about it and much of her work, as I’ve stated previously is top-shelf thoroughly enjoyable romantic suspense. But I should have known and recalled that when you write so many books, it’s a logical inevitability that something will be the best and something will be the worst. The only question is how bad that “worst” will be. SEEING RED has to be on the list of possibilities.

Seeing Red is a romantic suspense that I didn’t find romantic or all that suspenseful. Maybe my expectations for this were too high, but I didn’t fall in love with either of the characters of broadcast journalist Kerra Bailey and former ATF agent John Trapper—maybe this was why I didn’t feel the heat between them or much care if they got together.
The premise was intriguing enough: Kerra is interviewing Major Trapper (John’s dad), who was catapulted to fame twenty-five years earlier when he helped rescue some folks earlier from a hotel bombing when there is a shooting at Major Trapper’s home. John Trapper acts as a guard for Kerra in case the shooters discover that she survived the incident.
There were a few nice twists and turns, but not enough to keep me furiously turning pages in anticipation of what was going to happen next.

I’ve just recently started picking up Sandra Brown books again. I still remember her steamy romances from long ago – they were STEAMY!!! Now her books are more suspense and thriller than romance, at least that’s what I thought while reading Seeing Red.
Seeing Red was definitely suspenseful and thrilling. I loved the plot, and John Trapper kept me guessing more than once. He was fantastic – I truly loved him. He always had a plan. I never knew what was coming next, or what he had waiting in the wings.
This book had me on the edge of my seat for most of the time. I never knew who I could trust. I was second guessing everyones motive – it was a NAIL BITER for sure.
I loved the plot!!! It was masterfully crafted. Suspenseful, and highly entertaining – which is exactly what I’ve come to rely on when reading a Sandra Brown novel. Her books never disappoint. If I listen to the audiobook, or as it was in this case, reading the ebook, I can be assured that I’ll be sucked into the book right away. Her books are never slow paced. Even though this relationship was rather slow burn – the plot opened with a BANG and that’s how it continued.
Of course I wished there would have been more sexual tension. There was for sure a good amount of mutual attraction, but did the couple steam up the pages? No. They slowly came together towards the end. I thought it fit the storyline, but I would have loved a little bit MORE.
Like I said, I still remember her steamy romance novels and miss them quite ardently.
But otherwise this book was a HIT, right where it counted. It was the perfect novel for a rainy afternoon, for a sunny day at the beach, or just a lazy day in bed. It gripped me, and didn’t let go until it was done. I can honestly say that Sandra Brown’s books have been one of my more highly anticipated novels throughout the last couple years. Because her name guarantees thrilling and captivating entertainment, perfectly crafted plots, and immaculate writing on top of fascinating and truly likable characters.

Fucking genius!
It shouldn't come as a surprise having read a few Sandra Brown's before and yet I'm still amazed at how she nonchalantly places the pawns and makes me suspect every character in the book. By now I guess she would become somehow predictable... except she's anything but. She more than deserves her titles of 'Queen of plot twists' and 'Queen of Mystery'.
Only 30% in and my mind was already reeling with possibilities! A fast pace, twists and gasping out loud inducing revelations throughout the book made "Seeing Red" dangerous for my blood pressure! As much as I wanted to slow down and enjoy my reading time, I had no choice but to inhale those +400 pages, eager to know WHODUNNIT, damnit!
Sandra Brown, once again, made me doubt each and every characters and scheme to most inconceivable theories, constantly reevaluating every hypothesis.
You like a good romantic suspense? THIS IS YOUR BOOK. It starts with a bang, hooks you in and keeps you on your toes!
Bonus : A brooding and obstinate hero with a scruff opposed to an honorable and determined journalist, Sandra Brown builds up sexual tension like NO ONE ELSE. Banter, sarcasm and antagonism is a hell of a cocktail and she serves it burning hot, with sex scenes becoming the culmination point to a thoroughly built attraction. Seductive, provocative... Perfection!
She keeps you engrossed in the investigation but the attraction between the main characters feels so potent you almost want to forget about the whodunit and focus on the romance between Trapper and Kerra.
I loved how rugged and cynical the hero—John Trapper— was, a man's man, exuding confidence and nerve but also so much charm—I you like heroes coming across as jerks! The banter between him and Kerra or his friend, Carson, was truly hilarious, and I truly fell for his brand of humor: dark and caustic.
Recommendation : EXTREME

OMG! You all are in for a treat!! Seeing Red just jumped to quite possibly my favorite Sandra Brown book to date. Let's just say I'm on a major book high. Ms. Brown has outdone herself with this mixture of suspense/thriller, mystery, and romance. I have so many passages highlighted and mainly for their humor. The straight-faced banter, sarcasm, and f@ck you's are just too much fun. And the characters! Please allow me to introduce you to John Trapper and Kerra Bailey...two equally spitfire, hardheaded, and passionate people who will steam up your e-reader like nobody's business. Sandra Brown has outdone herself with Seeing Red and now that I've finished it and know the outcome, I'm going to have to read it again from a new perspective. I can't wait!!

Sandra Brown is another favorite author of mine. Her writing is FABULOUS. I was patiently waiting for Seeing Red to be release and praying it would be as intriguing and enthralling as her other writings. I am here to tell you that SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
If you enjoy reading Romantic Suspense, SB has to be one of your top authors. She is truly the queen of suspense and crazy twists and turns. And she never disappoints with her leading men. John Trapper was a classic. He was burly, surly, sexy and a bit of a jerk. A perfect alpha male.
The leading lady, Kerra Bailey, had her hands full with this guy. It didn’t take long for the sexual tension to build and become taut. What did take a bit of time was the sex scenes. But if you are a fan of SB then you know the wait is worth every fucking minute!!!
I won’t say much about the plot as not to give anything away. What I will say is I was sucked in right from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down. The mystery, the suspense, and the twists came together perfectly. All the secondary characters were great. I very much enjoyed Trappers buddy Carson. When he was on the page he added the humor.
As much as I was guessing early on, I did figure out the bad guy somewhere around the 70% mark. BUT I didn’t have all the pieces pulled together. Sandra Brown was still able to throw in a fantastic twist at the end that I didn't see coming.
I JUST LOVED IT!!! A must read and it comes highly recommended!!!

If you enjoy reading Romantic Suspense, SB has to be one of your top authors. She is truly the queen of suspense and crazy twists and turns. And she never disappoints with her leading men. John Trapper was a classic. He was burly, surly, sexy and a bit of a jerk. A perfect alpha male.
The leading lady, Kerra Bailey, had her hands full with this guy. It didn’t take long for the sexual tension to build and become taut. What did take a bit of time was the sex scenes. But if you are a fan of SB then you know the wait is worth every fucking minute!!!
I won’t say much about the plot as not to give anything away. What I will say is I was sucked in right from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down. Do I even need to write a review for this?
I mean, It's a Sandra Brown book. Isn't that a review in and of itself?!
This one here checks all the boxes of your typical SB book:
☑ A woman, just going about, living her life, then all of the sudden finds herself thrust in the middle of a shit storm, where she has to be constantly looking over her shoulder and be aware of everyone around her.
☑ A handsome, suspicious, short-tempered asshole man, whom no one seems to trust, that our lady gets infatuated with despite him being a major Jerkface.
☑ Not a single character is to be trusted. You never know who is gonna jump out of fucken nowhere to do some backstabbing business.
☑ Plot twists coming at you out of the left field.
☑ Overall and everything considered; an awesome read.
The reason this didn't get a full 5 stars was that in comparison to her other books, this wasn't as good. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't up to par as to what I've come to expect from SB books.
As per usual, with SB you can't really pinpoint the real bad people until the very end. You pretty much suspect every single character at one point or another..

Having said that, at no point throughout the whole book, did I suspect Trapper of being a bad guy. Yes, he was an asshole - as all the main guys in SB books are - but that was all.
In all of my favorite Sandra Brown's books, with Chill Factor at the top, I had to second guess myself about the main characters multiple times. I'd suspect them, then I'd think, no way! Then I'll suspect them again, then I'd find a way to justify their actions.. and so on and so forth. Not the case here.
That being said, I still very much enjoyed this read and I look forward to my next SB book.

Action packed and full of suspense. Besides I love Sandra Brown. This one was very intricate and harrowing.

I thought the whole plot of this book was really good. So many twists and turns. It had me questioning myself at every turn. Now the bad news....I did not connect with any of the characters. The H was such an egomaniac that he needed a foot up his butt. The h was just ok for me. I truly love SB and usually connect with at least one of her characters, but not this time. I give it 4 stars for the storyline and suspense.

So yes, I'm crazy happy!
A new release by the incomparable SB is reason enough to celebrate. And a return to familiar territory -- Brown's beloved Texas -- for another tale of romantic suspense, along with a set of new characters just adds to the excitement. Once you start this book, I doubt you'll be able to stop. Back in true form, locked and loaded with enough firepower to please the most discriminating reader, the reigning Queen of Romantic Suspense gives readers another smart, suspenseful -- and unpredictable page-turner.
The two main characters, John Trapper and Kerra Bailey, are equally well-drawn and vividly portrayed. They are intelligent, stubborn and strong individuals. Both suffer the residuals of a tragic past from early childhood. And each is determined to unravel the mysteries and find answers to the remaining questions surrounding those circumstances.
Like so many others that came before him, our new hero, Trapper, jumps off Brown's ruggedly-handsome hero-shelf with his own brand of moody alpha-ish male, darkly sexy good looks, and an attitude that is intensely complicated. Trapper is a bit rough around the edges, holds his secrets close, and after being forced to leave his job as an ATF Agent, is now a down-on-his-luck private investigator -- and kind of an all-around mess -- who can be found too frequently these days bellying up to a bar with a stiff drink in his hand, and that's where Kerra meets him for the first time.
A popular television journalist, Kerra Bailey, who's a bit of a spitfire, is an equal match to our male lead as she steps up onto the soapbox. She's also got her own very personal reasons motivating her to succeed in getting the interview with the elusive Major Franklin Trapper.
Both Trapper and Kerra are funny, witty and interesting -- likable and endearing. I was comfortable with both, although it took a bit longer to warm up to the gruff and irritating John Trapper. I definitely enjoyed this match-up.
Trapper is more than reluctant in agreeing to help the determined reporter, but Kerra isn’t the type to just give up without a fight. Armed with incentive that she hopes will hit its mark, Kerra pulls it from her arsenal of persuasion and places it in John's hands. This just might be the tipping point that pushes Trapper towards joining forces with the pretty television journalist who has definitely caught his eye.
If you're familiar with Sandra Brown’s books, you know not to expect a crap-ton of hot sex scenes. She's a genius at the build-up though. The sexual tension alone sets the pages ablaze. And she makes it count when the “doin’ it” finally happens! You can expect a few glorious moments between Kerra and Trapper.
There is an interesting array of secondary characters that play essential and key parts to the story. Among them, of course, is Major Franklin Trapper, along with a slimy untrustworthy lawyer, and the elite Texas Rangers, the FBI and local police, all of whom are involved in the search for the possible suspects and the truth of what happened the day the bombing occurred. They all play a role in keeping the pages filled with surprising chills and thrills, while the action ramps up with a wild chase across the State of Texas that includes a few stolen borrowed vehicles, a death count that is mounting, and enough twists and turns to easily get lost in.
Prepare yourself though, because just as you begin to feel comfortable with your thoughts and conclusions, WHAM! You're hit smack dab in the face with that oh-so-unexpected "gotcha" moment, and you'll never see it coming. Oops, she did it again!
Written from multiple points of view in third person gets the job done in an easy pace with a distinctive voice for each. The dialogue is always believable, convincing and relatable, and nobody delivers those one-line zingers with such impeccable timing as this author. Fantastic writing, cleverly enticing plot, and a ride that's a little rough and wild at times. But isn't that what we expect from a Sandra Brown novel?

My recommendation is to go get yourself a copy and dive head first into Seeing Red with your eyes wide open. For the maximum reading high, that's the only way to read a Sandra Brown book.
Its sensitive subject matter will likely be a reminder to most readers of past horrors perpetrated upon our beloved country and so many innocent lives lost. For me, it triggers memories of days that were filled with the sights and sounds of suffering and sorrow brought about by angry, revengeful and heinous evildoers that came far too close to home. More so though, it reminds me of the resilience and good of so many kind and generous relatives, neighbors and friends who were there with willing hands to help and provide aid to those in such unimaginable need.
In February 1996, on the day that motions for change of venue filed by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols came before the District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, I sat in the courtroom with a group of judicial employees and watched and listened in stunned silence. The faces of so much anger, hurt and devastation surrounded us. And across the aisle sat the evildoers responsible for the deaths of 168 people, including 19 small children in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. One showed no remorse -- McVeigh even smiled and joked with his attorney during the proceedings. The whole experience sent chills throughout my body, and it is forever ingrained in my mind. With the bombing of a building full of innocent people predominantly the focus here, the effect of this book was so much more personal and real for me than I imagined it would be.

Twenty-five years ago, a Dallas hotel was bombed, and many people perished. Major Franklin Trapper led a group of survivors to safety and became a national hero. The Major was a media darling, receiving awards and doing may interviews, until suddenly he dropped out of the public eye. Now TV Journalist Kerra Bailey wants an exclusive with the Major who isn't taking any of her calls. So, she approaches former ATF Agent John Trapper, the Major's estranged son, and asks for an introduction. When the interview goes horribly wrong and unknown assailants target both Kerra and the Major, Trapper decides to use Kerra to help track down the gunmen.
I'm never sure if I'm going to like Sandra Brown's books. Some of them work for me and others don't. I thought this romantic suspense story was pretty good. The romance portion wasn't terribly romantic, but I thought the mystery was very well done. The identity of the villain really surprised me. There were also a couple other twists that I didn't see coming.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Victor Slezak. I think he did a fabulous job with the characters. I especially liked Trapper's attorney friend who stood out. My rating: 4 Stars.

Sandra Brown is one of my all-time favorite mystery/romantic suspense writers so I was thrilled to get my hands on a copy of Seeing Red! She starts off with a bang with the first page, as usual, and I was hooked from beginning to finish!
Kerra Bailey contacts John Trapper when all her efforts to get in touch with his father fail. His father, The Major, is a hero, launched into the public eye back in 1992 when he led survivors out of The Pegasus Hotel bombing, an event that claimed 197 lives. For John Trapper this event signaled the end of his quiet, happy life when his father enthusiastically latched onto the celebrity his actions incurred.
As an adult, Trapper took up an investigation of the bombing when his examination of the facts led to serious doubts that the case was solved. This obsession eventually cost him his job at the ATF, so when Kerra shows up at his door asking for assistance he has no desire to help her.
Kerra has her own reasons for wanting an interview with The Major, more personal than professional. She’s determined to get the interview with or without Trapper assistance, but she can’t deny the pull she has to Trapper. In the middle of the storm that follows Kerra’s meeting with The Major, Trapper and Kerra try and manage the sexual tension between them, all the while trying to get to the bottom of things, staying alive in the process.
Sandra Brown is famous for here addictive writing. Her cliffhanger type chapters are a sure hook for someone like me. I just wanted to keep reading and find out how it all ended. Of course, she throws in twists, and turns. I suspected a few and was surprised by several. I love it when an author can keep me guessing!
The romance between Kerra and John was half of the attraction; deliciously antagonistic, and utterly sexy! I love Sandra Brown’s heroes! Trapper has a flash temper, a rude mouth, rugged and rough around the edges. Just the kind of antihero this reader loves! Kerra was principled, smart and determined; the perfect partner for Trapper to get to the bottom of these sinister plots.
Seeing Red is Sandra Brown at her finest, and I can hardly wait until she writes her next book!

Trapper and Kerra. I enjoyed reading about these two, but wanted more romance. Being the romance thriller genre, I did not think it overly romantic. A solid 3 star read though, Trapper is ex FBI who left before being fired. Kerra is a well known journalist trying to get to the bottom of the Pegasus bombing, that she was personally involved in, losing her mother to. This is the usual bad boy protagonist, falling for the gorgeous lady. Kerra and Trapper work closely toward who was behind the deadly plot.

September 21, 2017I'm going to dnf the audio, and wasn't impressed enough to pay $13.99 for the kindle. I think I would like this in book format, so I'll check the library. Audio books are funny, because the narrator makes a big difference. To be fair, I just listened to an Emma Chase audio with a guy who sounded sexy with a hot accent. The guy reading this one had me picturing a guy in his seventies with greasy hair, lol. I'm not sure why. Kind of a snoozer too. Sometimes it's just better to read it yourself!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit! I have been a long time fan of Sandra Brown. Before I owned a kindle, started a blog, or had a goodreads account, I read Sandra Brown. I kind of feel like we go way back. I haven't read all of her books but I usually keep up with her annual release every year and try to squeeze in books from her backlist when I get the chance. I went into this book expecting a very entertaining story and those expectations were solidly met.
Trapper and Kerra were at the center of this story. Kerra is a TV journalist out to get the big interview that nobody has been able to get for years. She decides to enlist Trapper's help in getting his father to agree to the interview. Never mind the fact that Trapper is currently not on good terms with his father. Trapper's father, Major Franklin Trapper, became a celebrity when he was able to a few people during a deadly bombing that made headlines. The interview ends up becoming the starting point for a dangerous chain of events.
I really liked Trapper and Kerra in this story. They were both really smart and able to think on their feet. Trapper was a little rough around the edges but really cared underneath it all. Kerra was able to balance the need to get the big story with what she felt was the right thing to do. They had great chemistry with each other and I loved following them as they worked to get everything figured out.
This book starts off with a bang and I was hooked right away. I think that the choice to tell some parts of the story out of order at the very start of the book was very effective. There were so many different things going on in this book and I found myself working to figure out what was really going on along with Trapper and Kerra. I was never quite sure who could really be trusted and found myself second guessing some of the characters. There were quite a few twists and turns that I did not see coming.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. This book has a lot of action, a solid mystery to solve, and a great romance at its core. I can't wait to read more from Sandra Brown soon.

I don't usually go in for books that involve romance in any way, but I felt that the plot sounded so good that I would happily enjoy the romantic elements should the thriller aspects, well, thrill me! This was my first time reading a Sandra Brown novel, although I wouldn't be averse to trying some more of her work. Having published seventy-two books, with fifty-seven of those becoming New York Times bestsellers, Brown certainly has a knack for creating timeless stories that both excite and engage readers from all corners of the globe.
The plot is a complex one which just manages to stay on the right side of complicated. There are surprises and twists aplenty, and they come at you thick and fast. Despite the many twists and turns, the plot maintains believability and comes across as rather realistic in nature, something I always appreciate and believe is the sign of a particularly adept writer. The characters were well fleshed out, and both Kerra Bailey and John Trapper are likeable, affable, and admirable people. As the synopsis suggests, there is a little romance sprinkled into this thriller, but I must admit I found the sex scenes rather offputting and unnecessary - they didn't add anything to the story, so I couldn't understand why they were really there. I don't know whether my dislike for romance novels was at play here or whether others would share my opinion on the matter. There is also humour in the plot which adds another dimension to the whole thing. If i'm honest, I underestimated how much I would love this, but I won't make the same mistake again. I will definitely be acquiring more of Brown's work to read in the future.

At the 25th anniversary of the Pegasus bombing Kerra Bailey, a local reporter wants to interview the national hero Major Franklin Trapper, who saved along with others a 5-year-old girl from the building. The Major though had refused all interviews the past few years and Kerra’s only hope to meet the Major was through his son, John Trapper ,an ex ATF officer who now ran a detective agency. After the interview an attempt was made at Kerra and the Major’s life which led to a non stop action with murder, kidnapping , FBI , Texas Rangers and a shady lawyer all thrown in the mix.
This was a great romantic suspense by Sandra Brown that I finished in a few hours. It has a lots of twists and turns with a few surprises at the end. The sarcastic banter between Trapper and Kerra along with the sizzling romance and with non-stop actin makes this book quite an entertaining read that I would recommend to all mystery lovers.
