The Defect Correction Center isn’t jail. It’s worse. At least, that's what Raven has been told. For the most part, she's been trapped in the same cycle of visiting her cell, then her Therapist, then her cell. But, suddenly, people are going missing every week. Suddenly, things take a turn for the worst. And she realizes that she has to get out, before it's her turn to die.
So this book is definitifly better then the first one. The writing has improved, the informations are well spread out and the story actually has plot this time around . Ravens arc is really well done Could it have been better ? - Sure, but what we got is good . Kampê 's arc surprised me too . She actually become a character thats more then background noice. The rest of the cast however was just that. There. They could have been taken out completly and nothing would have changed. Or maybe something would have changed. It would have been better. There is this kinda Plot Twist that some of them are part of. Does it surve any purpose ? No but it makes you go: ....ok??? So if thats what you're into: cool.
The reason that made me give this book 3 stars though was the plot holes (again). Some of them are caused by the fact that Unchain is the Sequel to Defy but most are just an Unchain thing. The hole * SPOILER* prison break scene *END OF SPOILER* doesnt make much sense. Our antagonists were doing so well , almost like they had gained some brain cells since we last saw them. UNTIL the climax where they lost all of them again. *sigh* There are so many scenes in which Im questening wtf is going on on page Im sure I lost brain cells myself. There is this really emotional scene that just left me feeling nothing because everyone was acting like a toddler it just through me out of the scene completly. Which is sad because the scene and the book had potential. I enjoyed a lot of it - especially the first part - but there was to much illogical stuff going on that made me face palm so hard it could be felt through the multiverse that I could not give this book a higher ranking. Lets see how the next one does. Im actually hopefull this time around.

This series is such an unexpected surprise. Kayleigh goes all out with heartbreaking characters, horrible inhumanity, and the bond that people carry in hardships. This book had so many beautiful scenes and there was a lot of good friendship built between the characters. I loved it so much. I am anxiously awaiting book three. The epilogue for this book set up a new premise perfectly and I can't wait!
That ending had me screaming for more ngl... but I have to confess, I really hated Raven. She barely reacted to Fas dying, didn't even bother helping, and then acted like she was the victim. Some of her internal monologue made me CRINGE. I would have liked to see more character development, better bonds with the other rogues. Apollo and Obsidian were honestly the only interesting characters, and they should have had more scenes together. I was completely confused with Apollo's history, along with the entrance of Astris, and the creatures with claws that were apparently Fae. Unchain could have been so much more better.
