What do you do when your planet runs out of women? Send for takeout, of course.
Tarjen never expected to go to Earth again. The first time, he was there to protect Crown Prince Joran as he claimed his mate and returned her to Pyros. This time, Tarjen is on his way to claim a mate of his own.
He’s studied human courtship behaviour, memorized his match’s file from the Star-Crossed Dating database, and prepared himself for the moment he’ll meet his mate. He’s planned everything perfectly so that nothing can go wrong. Not like the last time they were here…
This book contains a single mother who doesn’t believe in happy endings and a royal bodyguard who does everything by the book – until the universe blows up the book, his plans, and part of a city block.
Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

I haven't read anything by this author before but spotted this book was free and so downloaded it. I enjoy sci fi romance with its different worlds and unusual aliens but sadly this book doesn't really embrace any of that. Tarjen is part of a race that believes the Gods have chosen Mates for them and seem to have an intergalactic dating agency here on Earth that helps find them . Aria is a single mum and hadn't really meant to sign up to join the agency but along with her sister and friend goes to meet the alien that she has been matched with. Tarjen has everything planned in his head but things don't quite go to plan or do they ? Ok this was a sweet romance with a hero that just didn't feel very real to this reader. There's lots of mention of the 'scorching' which is just a period of time engaged in sexual pursuits but the misunderstanding about what Aria has let herself in for throws up a few problems. A quick simplistic ending that honestly didn't convince me that the romance had worth. I just expected more although I accept its short so the author concentrated on giving the couple an easy resolution and a happy ending.
As far as the book goes it was well short and sweet. 2.5 stars. I was definitely expecting a more feisty single mom like the blurb led me to believe but whatever. At the end of the day, insta just wasn't my thing here. The entire book lasted a 3 day span and let me be honest, nothing really happened. It was all sunshines and rainbows and pretty little bows to tie it all up.
I stumbled upon this free short novella on Amazon while waiting at my doctor's office.
Aria is a reluctant mail order bride for alien Tarjen of plant Pyros as it seems, as always, Tarjen's plant is devoid of females after some catastrophic event and finds earth women amenable to them and their planet. Aria was coaxed into signing up by her sister Piper and friend Haley. The only difference in this story than a previous alien-mail order bride story I read last year is that Aria has a baby daughter whom Tarjen doesn't know about but falls instantly in love with her as well as her mother.
Once Aria and Tarjen meet they fall under the "scorching" and are unable to restrain themselves from their sexual urges. Somehow the scorching information was left out of the brochure, and thus Aria is surprised and unprepared as if she has no idea why she signed up for the program in the first place.
Lackluster, predictable, boring read. Hard to believe I could be bored reading about aliens, but this one was a real snorefest for me.
This continues the fun of Hayes' Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides series, and turns things up a notch in the drama department, to boot.
Thus far, the balance of the three tales that went before were Hayes doing her brilliant balance of humour, geekery, and sexy-sexy sizzle, and introducing us to three fiery aliens and their equally stubborn mates (who had no idea that (a) they were on a date with an alien, or (b) that the aliens mate for life and would like to take them back home to their planet).
After the first three tales ended with the potential for the aliens to come clean to Earth and make first contact—and start matching compatible women with their outnumbered male population back on their home planet. This second trilogy starts there, with Earth now aware there are aliens out there looking for love among the humans—though not with 100% of the details of what that means.
Enter Tarjen. A doctor we've met before in the earlier books, he is convinced he will not make the same mistakes his former alien friends did. He's going in prepared. He's read up on human customs, he's got this whole "dating" thing down to a foolproof plan.
And then anti-alien terrorists blow up the meeting hall where he's meeting his potential mate, and things go south immediately (not to mention explosively). I love the extra tangle presented here (and I can't wait for the alien dragon). As always, the spark makes things move quickly, but it's Hayes' worldbuilding, scorch, and humour that keep you turning the pages and giggling along.
Okay. I like the Pyrosians. They're a little domineering and sometimes clueless when it comes to talking about things with their new special lady friends, but they have a lot of heart. And sometimes fire. Which amuses me.
Tarjen and Aria have the usual bumps in the road to navigate. The lack of full disclosure on what the women of earth are getting into exactly leaves for some hurt feelings and the sense that their freedom is being stripped away. Which is a crappy thing to deal with when you're already dealing with almost being blown up by humans as it is.
But Aria and Tarjen figure things out. Eventually. Tarjen (and all the Pyrosians, I guess) have no issues with Aria having a plus one and, really, Tarjen falls for Melody as soon as he sees her. Because babies!
A little danger, a lot of sexy, and an unexpected flame or two. I like these guys. A lot.
I'm such a sucker for sci-fi it was a big pull for me and a big reason I started reading Ms. Hayes's stories, she creates such an exciting world it's fun to escape to. I usually shy away from... nope read it lol
But because of that reason, I just fell in love with this recent addition to a great series.
It's funny when you think you have it all planned, then fates throw a monkey wrench in your plan. We learn that someone else's happy may not be yours. Oh, communication sorely lacking hence the reason a few things went south, the fun; the passion the love all there and accounted for, but not easily received females are a stubborn lot :) So fab and fun, hot and sexy. Enjoy
Apparently I really needed to binge some short, quick and light hearted alien romances! I didn't love the FMC quite as much as the previous FMCs... I have never loved the miscommunication trope 🤷🏽♀️
Purchase Amazon Feb 10, 2019 Tarjen by Susan Hayes Genres: Adult, Romance, Sci-fi 2.75 Stars rounded up to 3
While this story is accurately written, it is, unfortunately, boring.
Starts out well with the female MC, Aria. Tarjen, the male MC, had some moments of interesting. Both fall flat.
This could have been a really good adult sci-fi, but there really just isn't enough world build, suspense, anything to keep you interested in the story.
It is a cute, sweet piece of 'Cotton Candy' fluff. 🍦⛅
Exciting and hard to put down, Tarjen and Aria are approaching their relationship with absolutely opposite intentions. Where Tarjen has planned their whole future lives together, Aria is only trying to find a way out of being matched. Before they meet face to face though, other factors are at work and they have to scramble to survive. Then it gets spicy and complicated. It's a great story, with wonderful characters, some new and some returning, excellent plot development and words that will find their way to hook into your addiction for some fantastic storytelling!
I received this book as a free read. It was so good that I wanted to write a review about it. I have read several alien/bride books, but this one was so much more involved with each of the characters personalities and feeling. Sometimes I get to read these books and it seems so one sided. Of course a lot of them are like abduction books where there were certain expectations on the males part as to what he expected out of his slave or whatever. This book was about two people that were actually trying to make a relationship work even though they were going through this mating fever thing. I think that this is the first story that I have read where the woman had a baby with her and it made it all the more interesting in how these two interacted especially with the misunderstanding that took place. I am so glad that books like this are being written. Yes, there is sexual scenes in the book but for me that was secondary to the real structure of the story.
Aria is the mother of her baby daughter Melody. She had caught her husband cheating on her before she knew that she was pregnant. One night after have a bit to much to drink both her and her younger sister Piper signed up on an app called Star-Crossed Dating Site. At the time they didn’t realized that is was with aliens. Aria was a licensed psychologist and she had met Haley as a client and then afterwards developed a strong friendship. Haley was a journalist and two years ago she lost her husband and the love of her life to cancer. Aria had been helping her through the grief process. Haley parents were not at all helpful for her. Her father had not approved of her marriage, and he kept making her feel inadequate by telling her the things that she was doing wrong constantly. Her mother kept setting her up with dates to get her remarried off again. All three women were together when they found out that Piper and Aria had been invited to the next Gathering the following month. Except that they had found a match for Aria, not that she was really looking for one after what her ex-husband had done to her and not done for his daughter. Piper was able to talk Aria into going to the Gathering and Haley decided to go because she felt that there was a story to be found in there. Aria was determined to turn her match down. Tarjen Rix a Pyrosian is one of the Royal Guard that protected Prince Joran and Princess Maggie who was now pregnant with their first child. The Prince called him in and told him the news that they had found a match for him on Earth. Tarjen couldn’t believe that it was happening for he had given up hope of ever finding a mate. So there he was with a group of his fellow men waiting for the Shuttle to come into the stadium at Vancouver carrying the Prince and Princess. He had the paper work of Aria and found her sitting with the other women waiting to find their matches as well. He saw that she had a baby and he was curious as to what was going on. When he read her papers it said nothing about a baby. They were looking for females for their planet because for some reason their female population was dying off and they didn’t have any true mates any more. Just as the Royal shuttle was coming in to land explosions started going off. He tried to keep his eye on Aria and each time he would spot her the crowd would swallow them up again. Then there was yet another explosion that threw him on his back as he saw her enter a tunnel. However the explosion closed of the tunnel from his side. Aria was in total darkness. The tunnel she had run into had both its openings on either end blocked off by rubble and debris. She checked Melody to make sure the baby was not hurt but there was no way out for them. Then she heard something and she called out a hello. Then someone asked her if by her name if she was alright and when he touched her should a blue ark of light light up the room for an instant and she knew then it was her match Tarjen. The journey the two of the went on through the rest of the book is something that should be read and not given hints of. I will say this for both of them it is an emotional roller coaster ride and a good one at that. I can’t wait to read then next one and that one I will be buying.
I feel kind of bad rating this story two stars, but there’s nothing to it. I was looking for a short, sweet read, something to tide me over until a new release comes out. That’s what I got and nothing more. There’s nothing wrong with this, it’s just kind of blah.
Aria is a single mom who signed up on a dating site at the urging of her sister. She didn’t give it another thought until she got an email saying she had a match. Aria accidentally accepts the match (clumsy fingers) then feels like she has to go to the event set up for introductions so she can explain the mistake.
The twist here is that the dating site is trying to match human women with aliens from a planet where there’s a shortage of females. Aria’s genetic match is Tarjen, a royal guard, who can’t wait to meet her. Not everyone on Earth is happy about these matches and the event is bombed. Tarjen manages to rescue Aria and her daughter Melody. She tries to tell him about the mistake, but they’re immediately swamped by mating lust, and over the course of the next three days Tarjen convinces Aria they’re meant to be together.
That’s pretty much the entire story. There’s no drama surrounding the bombing. Even the description of it is maybe a paragraph long. It’s a convenient plot device to drive the story forward and that's it. Nothing else happens. Tarjen and Aria have sex, they talk two or three times, the story is over.
There’s nothing to the characters or the relationship either. I have no clue how old Aria or Melody are. I don’t know anything about Melody’s father other than he was a cheater. We’re told Tarjen is a planner, but there’s not much else to his personality. There’s a Big Misunderstanding because Tarjen doesn’t tell Aria some things about mating, and he expects her to accept everything that happens immediately. He apologizes, promises to try and be more understanding, asks her to marry him, and all is resolved. It’s completely ridiculous.
I knew this story was short, and I honestly expected it to be shallow. What attracted me was the idea of a single mother mating with an alien. I thought there was potential for some cute scenes of the alien interacting with the child. I thought there might be some drama. There wasn’t. Tarjen accepts Melody from the moment he sees her without asking a single question. He is sweet with her, but she spends most of her time with a babysitter.
This isn’t a bad story. Two stars says “it was okay” which is how I feel about this. It was mildly entertaining. There’s just nothing else really to say about it.
Aria Frasier never saw the gooey applesauce glob heading for her face until her baby, Melody, giggled. Her friend, Haley, marveled at the accuracy of the throw, then settled in to tell Aria all about her horrible week. As she was talking, the door flew open and Piper came in to announce she had an invitation to the Star-Crossed Dating Agency gathering at the end of the next month. Aria had signed up too when she had too much wine to drink, but nothing came of it. Piper told her to check her email, but Aria had never used it once Piper had created it. When they got the login information, Aria found that she had an actual match! But the email was already a month old. As she fumbled with the program, she inadvertently clicked on Accept and fireworks went off on the screen. With no undo button, she would have to go to the gathering and tell them in person that she had not really accepted.
Crown Prince Joran and his princess called Senior Guardsman Tarjen Rix into his office to tell him the news. Female births had diminished to the point that the Pyrosian species was at risk of extinction, but a select few had been permitted to seek a mate from Earth. Now Tarjen had been matched!
The day of the matching, unhappy Earth men set off explosions to ruin the festivities. Aria ran down a tunnel to get to safety. Tarjen had spotted her and tracked her to keep her and Melody safe. When he touched her shoulder in the darkness, a brilliant blue Spark arced through the air, indicating they were true mates. Then he held her and Melody and kissed her – and Aria thought maybe this hadn’t been a mistake after all? She wasn’t aware that soon the Scorching would begin, driving them both into a blazing mating fever they could not control. The fever had already started affecting him. What will they do if they don’t get out of the blocked tunnel and complete the mating?
This was such a fun book. Tarjen’s personality already set him on the road to disaster when he thought he could carefully plan things out! Humans are not so exacting and more likely to “go with the flow”. It makes an interesting combination. And most important is that Aria was there to explain and reverse her accidental acceptance, not to create a new family dynamic with an alien! Grab a copy of this story and see what they have to go through to get what they both need.
Tarjen is a new book in the Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides Series, one that’s a complete stand alone, but interconnects to the other books, and starts a new story arc for the following two books. Aria is tired of men and believes that she’ll be happy with just her baby daughter. When she accidentally accepts her match in the alien dating site, she knows she has to show up in order to turn him down in person. But fate has different plans after a bombing sends everyone into a panic. Tarjen is determined to follow his plans on wooing his mate, but nothing is going according to plan, most of all, his mate. After they experience the spark, Tarjen knows there’s no going back, but he must convince Aria that they can be good together and that they’re meant to be, if only he can stop bumbling his thoughts!
I am so thrilled to be back in this universe, back with the Intergalactic Dating Agency, and seeing new and familiar characters! I love the Pyrosians and I loved this book! Tarjen was so much fun because he’s very much stick to the plan, color inside of the lines, the law is the law type of a person. Aria and Melody just threw a wrench into his life, shook him up, and he came out only better! I loved that he never failed in his belief that they were meant to be together and meant to be mates! Aria was so practical but a romantic at heart. I loved that she questioned everything, wanted to hope and accept what Tarjen said, but also had her daughter to consider when it came to making plans. Together, Tarjen and Aria were such a great couple, I loved their powers gained, and I loved watching them overcome obstacles. This was a fabulous book and I am looking forward to the next release!
This is the fourth book in a series which I haven’t read, but I had no problem understanding what was going on. It does make me want to read more though because I liked the idea of aliens who, facing a crisis of a declining female population, use a dating site on Earth to recruit mates for themselves. Of course they don’t explain quite everything to the potential mates, which causes a bit of conflict, but it’s very hard to resist sexy, handsome men who are desperately eager to please the women meant for them. The first meeting between Tarjen (who has everything planned to make sure everything goes smoothly) and Aria (a single mother who accidentally accepted the match) is anything but normal, as anti-alien activists blow up the site where the meeting is taking place and Tarjen rushes in to protect Aria and her little daughter as all his plans are blown to bits. There is confusion, misunderstanding and scorching attraction, and I liked the story even though it was a bit short and a little too conveniently and quickly resolved. It did make me curious about her sister Piper’s story though, come on, she mates with a dragon!
Aria is a believable mother with young child; she's got a history that isn't explained, though. Tarjen is lucky to get a mate, and recognized the gift he's been given. Again, he has a history that might be in the preceding books, but I don't know.
I understand the Shocking, that there were going to be sex scenes to skip (I had expected some floundering around because he's a virgin, but nope, he's a pro), and then I was at the end of the book.
It felt like I got a few chapters about this couple and a little taste of bigger plot issues (why no women, who's bombing, dragon friend, she's writing an introducing manual), so I went looking at the other books, and they're the same thing! Under 150 pages and no substance.
I'm disappointed because I really resonated with Aria (mother, body issues) and wanted to see Tarjen grow to not always acquiesce, and I really really wanted to see world interactions, big picture plots.
Another romance from Ms. Hayes clicks off everything a reader of romance wants: a quick read (2 hours for me), a hot Alpha alien, and a everyday woman you can relate to, plus some sort of paranormal twist – in this case the alien culture.
One of three parallel romances for this larger universe, each following one of the circle of three friends.
Additional pluses for the worldbuilding.
First, unhappy Earthers having their women taken by aliens. Totally with government permission and the women signing up for the ships. But there are political consequences and reactions. Nice.
Second, and this is what won me over, the woman protection of her daughter. This interacting with the Scorching. Loved the woman dealing with the losing of the mind, and her emotional reaction to it. Loved the reveal of a culture used to dealing with the issue and set up to take care of the needs.
This is what worldbuilding is about – not just the first level, but the consequences.
This addition to the series features Tarjen, one of the prince's royal guardsmen. He accompanied the prince to Earth for the first round of mate claiming, and now he's going to Earth to meet his own mate. But before introductions can be made, there's an explosion and Tarjen is fighting his way through the crowd to where he last saw her. Then there's another explosion. Aria is a single mother whose sister talked her into signing up for the alien dating service. She learns she has a match and accidentally hits the accept button. Thinking to explain her mistake at the gala designed to introduce mates, Aria and her daughter, Melody, attend, only to be trapped in a tunnel as they attempt to escape the blasts of the bombs. Then Tarjen appears in the darkness next to her.
Here we go again! The fact that human men have a tendency to like the chase rather than the settling down leads to authors writing about aliens who can only have one mate! What woman wouldn’t want a man (or alien!) who only has eyes for her and thinks she’s perfect. This series tells the stories of each of the Pyrosian males who find their mates on earth. This time it is Taejon, one of the prince’s bodyguards. Aria and her sister, Piper, applied to the agency but were not accepted. Now, all of a sudden, they are not only accepted but Aria is advised that she has been matched with Tarjen! Not everyone is happy about the Pyrosians taking earth women (make that American women) as their mates. So, when so many get together to celebrate the matching of mates, there is bound to be trouble. This is a novella that is well written and quite nice. 18+
Harken and Asia's story is so sweet. Finding herself as one of the alien mates and that he accepts her human daughter starts her to realizing her world is changing. The bombing, the scorching, her missing friend and wondering about her sister makes her wonder how this can work out. Meeting three of the mates from the first group helps, but seeing her friend and discovering she isn't sure what happen to her did makes her worried again. When Tarjen steps up to say he thinks he knows where she might be Aria ask if she also mated to one of his people. If she is where he thinks she is safe because she would be his mate and nothing could stop him from protecting what is his. Who and what could be the more powerful possible mate? Will happiness find these young women?
Pyrosians have it tough. There aren't enough females to repopulate the planet, and the only compatible off-world species is located on a backward, under-developed and embargoed planet - Earth. So, being equal parts desperate and sneaky, they head off to Earth anyway... and thus was born the Star-Crossed Dating Agency. Appropriately named: these alien hotties can't get the human mating/dating thing right to save their souls, or prevent spontaneous humanoid combustion. Tarjen's return trip to Earth has given him a heads up on human women - and he still manages to blow it! Never fear, true love survives Sh*t storms, fire storms and anti-alien terrorist attacks (among other challenges), and HEA is enjoyed by the lovers, illegal alien issues aside. Maybe it ain't War and Peace, but you won't cry over it, either.
Aria aS the only one of the 3 to get a match. Piper got an invite and Haley went as Piper 's guest. Everything was going as planned until the explosions began. Aria's mate found her they sparked and the Scorching began. Aria"s decided she was going to refuse the mating, she had a sister and baby daughter to think about. They are rescued and taken to the ship, by then they are burning up. They drop Melody in the nursery and proceed to his sister's. After 2 days they have a fight, she leaves and ends up with the previous mates and their men with Tarjen who talk so.e sense into them both. He told her that he wanted to talk, she agreed but before she gets to him she runs into Haley who is mated to the doc, then later finds that her sister is mated to a dragon prince.
I loved this book! The next in the world of the Intergalactic Dating Agency. It did not disappoint! Sweet and scorching, and shows when it is a true match that it doesn't matter if there is a child by another man. That child will be loved as much as the mother. Also, things do not always go as planned. Tarjen is a planner, well when it comes to human mates that doesn't always work. (snicker) Same with Aria. She doesn't want the match, oops. I did not put this one down once I started it! Yup, hooked. It is also a fairly short read so it can be done in a day.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This is Tarjen's story and Aria's. She is a widow with a little baby daughter. You find out more as you read her background. Tarjen is both friend and guard to Joran and decides to give the alien mail order bride programme a go. Their meeting is boardering on a disaster as bombs go off. He finds her and soon knows she is his as well as her daughter. Like those before them there are hiccups as they work through their issues to reach their HEA and survive their coming together. I enjoyed the others being there, the humour and how they ALL work together. Now for the next in the series and more.
I do love these Pyrosians! Aria Frasier is in an entirely different situation now than when she signed up for Star-Crossed Dating, but she’s been matched. Their meeting is explosive, in more ways than one! Tarjen has a lot to learn about human women. I’d offer to help, but it seems he has plenty of assistance. Tarjen is so kind and thoughtful, just the kind of mate you could wish for - and the sparks fly! This is a story filled with love and rapid relationship building...because sometimes you just can’t wait! Enjoy!
The problem with reviewing this book is that I don’t know what standards to hold this book to. The story itself is incredibly predictable, there are no character arcs (actually the characters barely have personalities) and in six months time, I will have totally forgotten this book. But I don’t think this book ever really aimed for any of those things.
This is a fun, fast romp with hunky aliens claiming their Earth mates and showing off their supernatural skills. It’s goofy and proud.
I like Tarjen and all of these aliens because they genuinely want a mate and want to make her happy, whether she wants it or not, haha. And since Tarjen is a security officer he also wants Aria and Melody to be safe. Yes, this story follows a pattern, but we learn some new things about the "mating" process and consequences. There is just enough action, angst, and a cool SciFi romance for an afternoon read.
Typical alien mail-order bride plot. It had likeable characters and was a fun read. Typos: numerous sentence fragments after quotes (e.g., "Whitecaps?" He asked), numerous sentences missing an initial capital letter or ending period, misplaced possessive apostrophe (races'), "gods" spelled both with and without a capital letter when uttered or thought by the same character, "an approximation" spelled "a proximation," stray comma ("Aria mentioned, choice, too").
