HOW DO I GET OVER THAT? I mean seriously, this book absolutely wrecked me. I was hit with deep, agonizing, gut you, make you cry emotions, and I'm not sure my poor heart will ever be the same. Caitlyn and Adrien's story is raw and ache inducing and completely heartfelt. But I will warn you, this book does touch on some serious issues such as drug use and other various forms of abuse. It won't be a book for everyone, but it's an important one in that it delivers a powerful message.
Neon Nights picks up right where Inebriated left off with Caitlyn trying to move on from a crazy summer riddled with tragedy. To help deal with the heartache and pain, she heads to San Diego to start her life anew. There, she moves in with her mom, enrolls in a new school and even makes a new best friend. But the scene there is just more of the same... alcohol, drugs and drama.
When Caitlyn finds herself in a sticky situation, she calls the one person who inhabits her every thought. Adrien is quick to come to her rescue and once again, she falls under his spell. And with his newfound sobriety, the two of them decide to give it one more go. Will they finally get their happily ever after? Or will his demons, yet again, prove to be a problem?
If you're a fan of YA romance, sexy rock stars and angst-filled stories - grab these books up. From start to finish, it was angsty, addicting, heart-wrenching and absolutely unforgettable. Adrien imprinted his soul into mine, and I will keep him in my heart forever. Four emotionally charged stars for Adrien, Caitlyn and Neon Nights.
This book was literally an emotional rollercoaster. Katey did an amazing job with this book. The whole time you are left wondering how it is gonna end and the end will still surprise you. I am literally in tears while writing this review. Addiction is an important issue that we need to bring more awareness of. Katey did a great job capturing from start to finish what addiction can do to a person. I wish we got an epilogue though so i could get more of an insight what happened in the future but other than that this book was literally amazing. I recommend you read this duet NOW. A short, fast-paced, duet with an amazing message.
I can’t even begin to describe how this story was so emotionally wrenching, and beautiful at the same time. It was such a dark love story so beautifully written. Such a great piece of work Katey Taylor created with Inebriated and this sequel Neon Nights.
These characters and their lives and the tragic situations feel so real and I was so invested in them. I’d admire Cait’s strength and though she was a character who did things that made you want to scream at her from time to time she does grow and I was given the closure and hope needed for this story.
I had a special connection with Pete as we have some similar tougher life experiences. Katey brought light to these issues delicately and realistically.
This story will stick with me and I believe it is a novel so many people of all ages should read. You must read Inebriated first as this is the sequel.
Thank you to the author for choosing me to read this story with a free ARC. All opinions are my own.
I don't know what I was expecting. This was trashy and messy. I was enjoying it more than the first book, then the ending happened and it completely lost me. The main character has no motivation or drive other than drinking and sex. We know nothing about her. Other characters that just drop off and we never hear from them again.
ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A special thank you goes to the author, Katey Taylor, for giving me a copy of this arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own and were not influenced when given this book.
tw: underage drinking, drug use, sexual assault, abusive relationships, death, grief
I read the first book of this duology a year ago or so and I absolutely adored it. It was the perfect book that showed what teenagers deal with from drinking to peer pressure, to sex and more. It tore at my heartstrings and the ending made me sob. I often still think about the book from time to time.
When the author contacted me to read the next book, I knew I had to accept. As if it was ever even a question. I spent a year waiting for the sequel. And let me tell you, I am so glad I did. This book was even better than the first one, if that is even possible.
It continues right where the first book left off so you will need to read the first book in order to understand what is going on. It follows the life of Cait after everything that happened. I don’t want to spoil anything but let’s just say Cait struggles to live her life.
What this book does fantastically well is portray grief. Grief pours out of this book. Cait is grieving after everything that has happened. Even when she is happy, she still feels sadness. I love how realistic it was. Grief never truly go away. It’s always there, in the back of your mind.
Prepare to cry and prepare to shout with happiness. You will become instantly reattached to Cait and cheer her on every step of the way. This book has made its way to my top ten favorite books of 2020. But be warned, this isn’t an easy book to read. It deals with a lot of heavy topics that have carried over from the first book. Please make sure to be in a good mindset when you read this book as there are a lot of triggering events that I listed above.
This sequel to Inebriated was just what I needed!! Neon Nights had me feeling all the feels - highs and lows. Katey did an excellent job of capturing some of the things young adults go through. The new characters bring a special twist that makes it hard to put the book down. It was nice to see how much Cait has evolved and grown. Her new journey brought me happiness, sadness and all of the emotions in between.
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book way much more than the first one because of the emotional roller coaster that it was.
I liked that each of the characters had an actual backstory and were dealing with so much more than they let on. The way they handled a lot of situations makes me care for them a bit more than I like, because they reflect the nature of teenagers nowadays.
Many of the slips Cait has done were getting me kind of on edge, because I knew she was making mistakes and they would reflect badly in the future- er... next few pages. I do not actually stand behind her choice that she has made right after she graduated and turned eighteen. It was rash and not well thought through, but I unfortunately understand why she made her choice.
The way Cait reflected on her past mistakes shows that she has matured to a certain level, but many more mistakes that she has done have shown that she has a long way until she actually matures into an adult. Understandably, based on the recent events that have occurred, she had emotional problems, such as dealing with panic attacks and depression, but I believe that her mother should have helped her more rather than focus solely on her own private life, that is why I loved her father way more, even if he was easily shown once or twice in the book. Her best friend, Pete, was a total sweetheart, and I loved him even though I felt like he was a bit of a bad influence on Cait. But in the end I felt really bad for him but also proud of the choices he has made.
The end was a bit too sad, but because I have read a lot of emotional books at this point I cannot even cry. I did predict what would happen at the end because I have a hunch for emotional endings, but it was painful to read nevertheless.
The cover of this book is way too on point for this story and may even trigger some tears.
This is the story of Cait, a high school senior reeling from the impacts of last summer. She starts senior year in a new city, with no friends, which is a lonely way to start what is supposed to be the best year of high school. She becomes fast friends with a gay boy in her class. He fluxuates between a dedicated friend and an absent one. He is also not always the best influence in her life, yet he is at times her savior.
This book is the sequel to the YA novel Inebriated. It is very similar in style and also seems exclusively geared towards a teen audience. There are lots of moments consisting of excessive drinking and drugs throughout the book and I think there were missed opportunities to focus on the repurcussions of the choices made throughout the book. The last part of the book deals with those repurcussions of choices very well and some of the moments are purely heartbreaking.
This book is probably 4 stars for a teen audience and 3 stars for an adult. It lacks the depth and character development that most adults crave. It's a fast read and I would recommend it to teens who enjoy reading with a warning of physical abuse and drug use throughout the book.
Thank you Amazon, Katey Taylor and Netgalley for this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is one of those books that just sweep you off of your feet. I really liked all of the dynamics between the characters. They all felt so much more real or 'alive' even, in comparison to the first novel (which I loved, btw). There were so many action packed scenes, the tension of what was going to happen shivered my spine and the drugs abuse scenes were just on point. I really feel like the author has grown in writing style and character development. The only thing that bothered me about the main character is that she showed such repetitive behavior towards the love interest. Not once or twice, but several times throughout both books. That made me roll my eyes a bit. Neon Nights picks up where Inabriated left off and that was nice, because we see the main character there, struggling with everything she's been through, deciding she needs a new start. I always love the "let's go somewhere else for a new start"-trope. She has no friends, but several memories that "haunt" her in some sort of way. I felt her struggles and I thought all of her actions made sense, except for her constantly, almost depending, behavior on Adrien. Come on Cait, really? But in the end, I loved their raw story. It shows that life isn't a smooth path, but it's bumpy, rough, tricky even. I'm happy to have read both books. I think the author is definitely getting a big fan base and I'd love to read more by her.
Thank you so much NetGalley, Katey Taylor and publisher for this e-ARC! I'm rating this one 4/5 stars!
I love the writing and the characters. I have been engrossed since the first page and had a hard time putting the book down.
I would suggest to the reader to read "Inebriated" first, even though the back story is given in detail, I think you miss the emotional journey that Cait has been on and everything that happens in "Neon Nights" won't be as impactful without it..
I look forward to what Katey writes next!
A special thank you to NetGalley, Amazon, and Katey Taylor for providing me with and ARC.
Neon nights is a sequel of the novel 'Inebriated' and it was okay in the beginning but later on, I didn't expect the twist that came..I didn't predict that. Just when everything falls back to place, it shatters in the speed of a lightning and the ending... The ending, oh my God . You can't do that Katey😭😭😭 How dare you!😭
Wow! Finishing that story felt like a punch in heart. I loved Inebriated but this book brought such beautiful layers. Cait’s strength is admirable and I love Pete as a character. Their friendship was one of my favorite aspects. This may not be a good fit for everyone as the subject matter is intense and the author doesn’t hold back. It makes you wonder if there is truth behind these fiction novels. Thanks to the author for a free copy for my honest review.
Note: I got a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review so my opinion is 100% real and not affected by that.
I AM WRECKED AND SHATTERED AND PISSED! This book just broke my heart, shattered my soul and destroyed my life. Yeah, you heard me right. I cried, laughed and even SCREAMED at this book. It was too much especially since I read it in one sitting. This book will own my heart for a long time because it left a painful scar in my soul.
The way this book deals with so many sensitive topics just breaks my heart. These characters... agh! I live for them! Even though they’re known for making some pretty stupid decisions, I still love them with my soul. Katey now owns my heart! Her books somehow changed my perspective in so many things! They’re quite heavy and hard to read but they’re really important. Highly recommend them to everyone but firstly, trigger warning for death, sexual assault and substance abuse.
'Neon Nights' by Katey Taylor is an addictive sequel to 'Inebriated'. Cait has moved to San Diego to live with her mom after her parents' divorce, and she is doing her best to move on from the harrowing events that closed out her junior year. Haunted by the memory of her friend Steph, she tries to develop a life outside of everything she's ever known. She begins the year at an alternative high school where she meets Pete. Their friendship quickly develops, and they begin partying together.
Cait's motivation throughout the story is not really defined too much. Readers don't quite know what she wants to do with her life after high school ends. However, it is very clear that there are pressures in her life that are causing her to act out, from her parents' divorce to her mother dating again, to the horrible memories that she can't help but relive every time she gets behind the wheel. Right or wrong, this is the way she handles things, by drinking and trying drugs, despite having been down on the drugs throughout her previous adventures in 'Inebriated'.
A couple of guys, both off-limits and seemingly nice, come into the picture as the story goes on, but Cait always finds herself drawn back to Adrien Cross, the lead singer of a band that she loves. Their relationship has ended, yet his online followers still weigh on her life, since she can't help but read what they have to say about her. When Adrien releases a single that she knows she inspired, she finds herself falling deep into an abyss of overwhelming uncertainty about what her future holds and how she will ever get over Adrien.
When her eighteenth birthday rolls around, life seems to be playing cruel tricks on her, and the events of the day become too much. However, in a turn of events that is predictable, yet engaging, Adrien is brought back into her life when she phones him for help.
Cait and Adrien's relationship has all sorts of ups and downs. They are right for each other while at the same time being so very wrong. She is constantly in over her head, between alcohol and pills, let alone the fact that she is only eighteen and is supposedly the driving force behind Adrien's return to sobriety. That is a lot of pressure to put on one individual, especially one so young. She can't seem to get a grip on her life, which is only exacerbated when she makes a choice to do something with Adrien that reveals to her what kind of life she's in for if she continues down the relationship path with him.
Deception, aggravation, and constant worry are only a handful of the issues she knows she will have to come to terms with if she stays with him. When he finally realizes that being an adult is what it takes to show her he truly cares, heartache and upset are the only emotions there are to describe how the book concludes. Yet, their relationship reveals larger truths than they know – sometimes life deals harsh blows, and knowing how to deal with them, how to cope and find strength in what happens, is utterly important. It can make or break you, and you can learn some startling truths that are sad and horrible, and they may come at a high cost, but they are essential to character growth.

Inebriated did not end on a high note so I was super nervous yet also excited to see what Neon Nights had in store for me and these characters I came to adore so much. Well first Katey stomped on my heart, then she gave me hope and all the wonderful feels this couple can give me, and then, then she broke my heart once again, worst than the first time. I don't want to get into it because anything I might say can be a spoiler and I don't want to ruin the reading experience for anyone. But yeah, expect your heart to be put through the wringer by these two books but especially this one. I am still in shock and other things. I was really not okay after I finished this book.
Just thinking about these characters makes me tear up but also makes me feel warm because I loved them so much and really enjoyed spending time with them this weekend. These are definitely books I’ll be rereading in the future because I already miss Cait and Adrien. Their journey was a rollercoaster ride that ended in a painful accident but I could not have loved them more. The pain I felt was so worth the ride.
Okay for those readers who like disclaimers and trigger warnings, I'm gonna give you two. But please don't read further if you don't want ANY type of spoiler. As I mentioned in my review for book 1, these two books depict alcohol and substance abuse. And for the second one,
There is a lot going on in this one and, at the same time, I am amazed at how none of the characters grew at all.
In fact, if anything, Cait is even more irritating than in the first book. She is in a new school and a new area and she manages to make absolutely NO friends, except for a guy that is even more broken than she is. There are absolutely no healthy characters in this story - from the guy next door who is simply creepy to the fact that Cait's mother is absolutely clueless (again? still?), nobody is wiser.
Cait, as the main character, is now close to 18 and still acts like a silly little girl who, once again, does not pay the price for her own addictions. She goes to pills and booze and somehow, is never called on the carpet. I disliked her in the first book and really grew to hate her in this one.
The Adrian character had some redeeming factors for a bit, but soon went back to who he is always would be.
There is an interesting twist at the end of this story that I did not necessarily see coming and it does add a layer to the story.
Once again, the writing is great and engaging. This author does not shy away from writing tough scenes, which I love, but I had to give this 3 stars because the characters just did not grow at all from the last book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
SPOILERS
Neon Nights takes up where Inebriated left off. Cait has moved from Caleveras to San Diego, to live with her mom. She starts a new school for troubled kids and meets a new friend, but other than that, nothing changes. She doesn't deal with what happened to Steph at all, and the past months are barely talked about in the book at all. Within pages, Cait is back to drinking anytime anything remotely inconveniences her.
Cait gives Adrien a lot of flack for being an addict, but she is basically an alcoholic. She drinks anytime she's sad, or upset, or mad, or wants to have fun. Her mother is oblivious and never home, which when your daughter has recently been in a fatal crash fueled by booze and drugs, is stupid. Nothing has changed at all from the first book. There is no growth. When Cait and Adrien reunite, it's clear how the book will end. I wasn't sad, just frustrated.
I wanted more from this book. I wanted her to grow up a little and realize her mistakes, but she didn't. I realize she's 17/barely 18, but she's not naive. She's completely immature and vapid. The only things you ever learn about her is she's pretty and drinks constantly. Those are her only qualities.
Title: Neon Nights: A Sequel Author: Katey Taylor Publisher: Amazon ISBN: 9781732750425 Edition: E-Book Publication date: 24/03/2020
Content: "Liquor and lust and troubled boys who are hard to trust..." The seenteen-year-old Cait magically attracts bad decisions. After a summer full of tragedies, she suffers from the aftermath of a failed relationship and has to deal with the pieces that are left. But... WILL Cait be able to get on the right path and to continue her journey? Or will her past catch her again and trag her down?
Opinion: At first, the cover is poor beauty! I totally fell in love with it. With the characters in the book I have some kind of hate-love-relationship. Sometimes I love them, for example Cait, and in the next moment I could hit her for her bad decisions. They are so nicely described that they could even be people in real life. I love the writing style of the author and the way she describes people and settings, but also the thoughts of Cait. The whole story was so damn heartbreaking, I almost cried at certain points. Sometimes this happed out of sadness, sometimes out of anger.
Conclusion: All in all, I really recommend this book! It is full of surprises and so catchy! There is literally no reason to not read it!
This is the sequel to Inebriated, where Cait has moved away from her old town with her mom and is trying to start over after the death of her best friend and breaking up with her drug addict rock start boyfriend. Unfortunately, it isnt that easy for her to change her old ways and kick her old habits. Cait still is drinking and using drugs, meeting other guys who are no comparison to her first love sadly, for her. She again ends up in a downward spiral, and lonely on her birthday, she drinks so much that she blacks outs and can't remember what happened....apparently she called her ex and he shows up at her door. He has been in rehab so he is not using and he is trying very hard to stay on the straight and narrow. Cait sees this and is happy for him, and they get back together and she goes on tour with him. Sadly her rock start boyfriend has a hard time staying straight and things start to go south for both of them. Sadly, Cait learns some pretty harsh lessons but somehow manages to become a stronger person and survive all the terrible events that have happened in the last couple of years.

I absolutely loved "inebriated" but "neon nights" is just a masterpiece. when I started I knew this book would take my heart as well. Breakups, love, drugs, society, divorce this book has it all. Things that happen every day in our society, things that are posted on social medias that we can probably afford but also cannot. Both books break me a little, thinking about these characters makes me tear up,I wish these characters were real.I loved them so much and I really enjoyed spending time with them this weekend. I already miss Cait and Adrien . I recommend these to everyone, you will be left speechless like me.

#NeonNights is the sequel to Inebriated, and my advice is to read Inebriated before you start this one!
Cate is moving on from the tragic events of the summer and her lost love, Adrien Cross, a talented singer who struggles with heroin addiction. Sometimes I got annoyed at Cait as it seemed that she hadn’t learned any lessons, but then isn’t that the same with us all? Her life once again fills with drama and bad decisions and I hoped that she would turn it all around.
This was an enjoyable book, and I recommend it to teens as a gripping summer read.
Thanks to #NetGalley & the publisher for my free advance copy.
Oh my gosh how could it end like that!!! I am so in love with these characters just to get my heart broke!!! This series has kept me on my toes the whole time and I have to say I loved the wild roller coaster ride it gave me. This book held me captive the entire time!!!! I can’t wait to read more from this author
Can she fix the train wreck that is her life? I really liked the first book so I was really looking forward to this one and it didn't disappoint. Pick it up and see if Cait has grown up and learned from her mistakes or is she doomed to repeat them over and over. Happy reading! #NeonNightsASequel #NetGalley
A great sequel to Inebriated! Cait’s story continues with darker and tougher topics such as drugs, addiction and alcohol. It had this darker romance that drew me in instantly. So many factors in this book kept me continuously flipping the pages. I never finish a book in one or two sittings and I was able to do that with both Katey Taylor’s books!
TW: addiction, drug use, alcoholism

This book will destroy you just so you know. I loved every page and can not wait to read more. Please be advised though that this title covers issues such as drug use, and forms of abuse. This book packs a punch and delivers one powerful message. Wonderful characters and a great killer story.
I loved this book. I will admit I haven't read the first one but it truly was great. A story of friendship, rebellion this book has so many different things going on , I really couldn't put it down. Truly a page turner a must read.
I enjoy this series for what it is. It's like reading something along the lines of teen dramas I watched growing up, like the OC. So in that sense, the story is addicting- wanting to know what happens next. I was hoping the story would take a different trajectory but enjoyed it nevertheless.
Emotional and powerful sequel that is a fast paced roller coaster read. Themes of addiction, codependence, grief, and loss give way to insights. A Remarkable journey that lingers and promotes thought.
