Proofreading is a highly marketable skill that makes for a great side-hustle or second income, especially for teachers. As more people write a variety of content across numerous industries, opportunities abound for professionals with above average language skills to bankroll their knack for words into a profitable home-based business. Now more than ever before, the stage is set for good writers, editors, proofreaders and teachers to sharpen their skills and promote their services. The field of freelance proofreading is wide open with potential clients everywhere. For the curious and the determined, Start Your Proofreading Side-Hustle answers the question, “How do I get started as a freelance proofreader?” From defining the job of proofreader to setting up a home office, and finding customers, this book clearly outlines what it takes to launch a freelance proofreading business.
This was more of a booklet, barely more than a pamphlet, than an actual book. While it's title implies it will help you start a side-hustle it is actually geared more toward someone who is interested in starting a full-time business. It does have some good ideas and tips but in reality it is largely an advertisement for Ms Hampton's online proofreading and copyediting classes. I will say it was worth the $10 I paid for it and I may check out her classes but there is little that is ground breaking between these covers.
I appreciate when authors don’t beat about the bush.
Having prior experience with freelance proofreading, I did already know most of the outline presented by Ashan Hampton, but there were some innovative ideas I hadn’t thought about.
Not to mention it was a good refresher.
Recommended if you’re a beginner and need something short and to the point!
I highly recommend this short book as a reference for starting your proofreading side hustle. It covers all the essential areas needed to get yourself started. I appreciate when an author provides questions to think through for yourself rather than flat out telling you what to do.
