Lisa Moore has written two collections of stories, Degrees of Nakedness and Open, as well as a novel, Alligator.
Open and Alligator were both nominated for the Giller Prize. Alligator won the Commonwealth Prize for the Canadian Caribbean Region and the ReLit Award, and Open won the Canadian Authors' Association Jubilee Prize for Short Fiction.
Lisa has also written for television, radio, magazines (EnRoute, The Walrus and Chatelaine) and newspapers (The Globe and Mail and The National Post).
Lisa has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She also studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where she became a member of The Burning Rock Collective, a group of St. John's writers.

Thank you Breakwater Books Ltd. for sending it along. Take a superb collection of Newfoundland writers. Add the excellent editing skills of Lisa Moore. Bam! You get a very fine collection of stories between two covers. The first story's ending hit me "like a shovel over the head." WHEN you read it you will understand. Starting with the first story and with each successive story the reader is drawn into the lives of the characters with a magnet pull that comes from the exceptional writing skills of this collection of authors. Each story packs its own punch the narrative leaving you breathless. These stories will haunt you. Leave you searching for just the right words to explain the feelings they evoke. There is a lot to unpack and analyze here. I enjoyed my time with these stories and expect I will see more in the future from this group of writers.
There are so many incredible stories featured in this anthology of Newfoundland writers. All featuring ‘hard ticket’ characters, I found myself smiling, sighing, teary-eyed, and searching; a wide-range of feelings throughout my reading experience.
This is quite a lovely collection of stories. Well worth a read.
