“Now, let me hold you. I miss the way you smell and the way you feel in my arms. I need you like an addict needs their next fix, Dove, and I’m not sure I’m strong enough to deny myself what I want from you right now. So, please, roll over and stop looking at me like I’m a knight when really I’m the devil waiting to crack you open and feast on your soul.”

The conclusion of Zane and Dove’s story. Boy did they have to go through a lot to get to their HEA. It was emotionally exhilarating at times trying to anticipate how they would get out of certain situations. But it was so worth it...this duet was surprisingly good.

This is a new author to me but I really enjoyed their writing style. Pace was fast and the love scenes steamy. It is a mafia romance and does have violence if that is a trigger. Also note that Zane is not a typical hero...he is a bad man in a sense but he will do whatever is needed to protect his Dove. I will have to go back to read the other books connected to this one.

Wow! What a terrific conclusion to Dove and Zane's story! This book kept me on my toes, consuming me completely. It has everything that you could possibly want in a dark mafia romance. From sizzling chemistry, to a powerful alpha hero, to a fierce and feisty heroine, to a series of gasp worthy twists and turns. This book has it all. Deadly Obsession sunk its claws deep, hooking me from the very start.

It picks up right where Cruel Obsession left off with Dove and Zane trying to find their way back to one another. Zane turns to someone unexpected for help, but little does he know that they have their own ulterior motive for wanting to find her. And Dove? She learned to stand tall and take the reins in order to save herself and Zane. And as their story unfolds and secrets are revealed, the drama, danger and suspense intensify ten fold.

All in all, J.L. Beck and C. Hallman outdid themselves, bringing to life a deliciously dark mafia romance that pulls you in and takes root inside of you. I loved everything about it, and can't wait for you to fall in love with it too! This duet is definitely a must read for any dark romance fan. So damn good! Five stars for Dove, Zane and Deadly Obsession!

"We're two crazed lovers clawing at one another's hearts until they're a bloody mess. Who will bleed the most?"

It started with an obsession and it turned out a raging mob war!!!
Wow!!!! The second part of this story really impressed me and i couldn't put the book down...
The fast pace, the constant heartbeat when all shits were hitting the fan over and over again, the suspense, the agony... all of the above made that book so appealing!!!
There wasn't only innocent Dove and Zane's obsession in here....
The things in this instalment went above these two!!!!

"It's a battle of mobs at this rate, and Zane and I are the only two pawns left on the chessboard."

"We're frenzied, gazoline and fire, lightning and thunder, and we'll burn the world around us to the ground."

Honestly, i don't want to say too many things about the plot...
Dove and Zane were seperated for each other, even though they didn't want to...
It's time for Dove to realize that there are bigger monsters out there than Zane...
And Zane as being Zane, he could do anything to save his precious Dove, even if it will turn out the worst decision of his life...
Enemies are all around them and everyone wants a piece of them...
Will they survive this madness??? Will their love survive???

"It's so strange that once upon a time, she tried to escape me, but now she holds me close as if I'm her savior."

"I'm lost without him, like a broken compass that doesn't know its way."

I really enjoyed this wild and crazy ride, i can admit even more than the first part!!!
I loved how Dove finally got a backbone and she was starting to depend on herself and not only to Zane...
Zane for once again proved how much Dove meant to him... He was obsessively in love with her and he could do anything to protect her, even to walk into the lion's den and sacrifice himself...
And that wasn't always for the best...
Their adventures went beyond imagination... They started a war from nowhere and they needed a miracle to get out of this madness.
What will happen after all???

"The future is mine, and I am going to be my own knight in shining armor."

"The problem is, I love her too much, and that just might what gets me killed."

*********************************************

"Sometimes the love of your life is right in front of you.
Other times, he's hiding right outside your window, watching you sleep."

"Your crazy matches my crazy, and I’m never going to give you up.”

Second book takes of where Cruel Obsession ended. Zane survived , Dove is getting caught up in a war that is not hers. Secrets are reviled, alliances are made, decisions to take. Will Zane and Dove survive this?

I kinda felt annoyed with Zane half of this book, and loved him for the other half. In my opinion he sometimes didn't saw Dove more than a sex tool, an obsession, a possession. Well, the girl was not stupid nor weak, and I think if he listened more of what Dove had to say they wouldn't have found themselves in so many predicaments as it was. Anyhow, he is still the same overbearing, possessive obsessed man.

If I could get my money back...

If I could get my money back, I would. I felt like two juvenile girls wrote this over night.
The damsel in distress was kidnapped every few chapters. Everyone ended up being related to her somehow. Add in the cheesiest dialog I’ve ever read and corny sex scenes. It was absolutely cringe worthy. I gave these authors a shot and honestly, it’ll be my last.
I rarely give out negative reviews. In fact, I think this is only my second. I’m an avid reader... this was just too ridiculous.

A decent if not mildly lackluster finish to the duet, this is the completion of Zane and Dove’s story. It didn’t quite capture the mood and magic of the first half, and although there were quite a few interesting and exciting scenes, there was a lot of filler, too. I began to skim the sex scenes, as they eventually became pretty repetitive. I wish this had been condensed into one book, with the first 2/3 focusing on the captivity and more of Zane and Dove’s backstory. Quite a bit of the fat could have been trimmed from this book, while the first installment was mostly meat. In any case, it was entertaining and a fun continuation of the story.

1.5 “WHAT ABOUT THE CAT?!?!” Stars

If you’re reading this, I’m going to assume that you read the first book, in which case you may remember that Dove worked at an animal shelter and had adopted a cat, Max. A cat which, when Zane abducted her, he brought along to the underground bunker. And then they left the bunker without the cat.

They thought they would be coming back. Obviously. I mean, who takes a cat out on an outing to the hospital?

Except they don’t make it back.

I get it, Dove gets abducted and all sorts of craziness happens, but at no point in all this does girlfriend EVER seem to worry about her poor cat or even recall that it exists. And as an animal lover, I felt very WTF about that. I mean, she remembers and thinks about the bunker, but at no point does she wonder about or mention the cat that they left there. So the whole time, I’m sitting there thinking this poor cat is dying of thirst and/or starving in this underground bunker while its owner doesn’t even give a shit and I could not get over it.

Yes, I understand it’s just a fictional pet and not the point of the story, but it made me wonder why the authors felt the need to introduce a detail like that if they weren’t going to follow it through. In the epilogue, it’s finally mentioned in a quick paragraph, which made me think the authors forgot about it and just had to add that in because “oops.”

Why did I care so much about this cat, you might be asking? Maybe it’s because the characters weren’t well fleshed out, so I really didn’t care much about them. They seemed more like caricatures at times—the innocent, naïve girl who has to toughen up and grow some balls; the cold-blooded killer who is crazy obsessed with the heroine and seems to think of little else but her; the asshole “mafia” guys…

The hero especially fell flat for me. He came off as temperamental—one minute he’d never do anything to hurt her, the next paragraph he says he wants to hurt her because of how she hurt him. He is moody and reactive—easily flying off the handle rather than trying to see the situation through a rational lens. And I guess that’s fine if you’re into that type of thing, but he struck me as emotionally immature, among other things, and definitely not book-boyfriend material.

I think the storyline could have been good, but the lack of details where they were sorely needed ruined it for me. Add to that the numerous grammar/typo errors (savior instead of savor; severe instead of sever, etc.), and this book just wasn’t it.

Mmmmm.... I didn't like this book as much as I liked the 1st one. Zanes kind of let me down, here he is this big bad enforcer but all his power is taken away from him. He was really ineffective, like the first time they try to escape and they got caught like two teenagers breaking curfew. It was sad to read as I wanted more from Zane. They only time Zane seemed to have control over anything was when he was alone with Dove.

The second half of this didn't really match the first half when it was mostly just Zane and Dove and I missed it. Adding in all these people and circumstances and kidnappings went on too long. Zanes obsession is still there but his ability to act on his obsession is curtailed and ineffective too many times. The sex is hot but that's about the only place he has any real control of anything which based on how badass he was in the first book, I felt was out of character for him to put up with that situation so long. Lots of twists and turns that were somewhat telegraphed. I felt like the middle was dragged out too long and the epilogue was unfulfilling.

This story had too many unnecessary twists that were used to propel the story along. I love how Max (the cat) has been conveniently staying in a shelter while everything went down and that this just happened to be mentioned at the end of the book. Dove and Zane's relationship seemed more like an actual relationship in this book because Dove was actually standing on her own as a person but I still found it difficult to root for them.

Good story though not especially engaging

This book had all the elements of a great tale -- vulnerable heroine; take charge, caring hero amidst a mafia storyline with twist and surprises. The tale continues smoothly where the first part left off, and we make surprising discoveries along the way, all within the realm of the mafia and their mafia connections. Nice variety of scenes and world building the authors created, and the interactions of characters, good and bad, and how they influenced the main characters. You couldn't help but love them and their devotion to each other, the decisions they make to hold on to their love, the obstacles the hero would take on, the sacrifices he was willing to make to keep and to protect his true love.

Unfortunately, the story did not hold my attention. On "paper" it was good, fairly well-written, but in execution I had trouble finishing it because it felt formulaic, and even overly long. I did not find it dark, and for sure not close to how it was touted to be before release. It was a contemporary, mafia romance with an attempt at twists that realized themselves as dramatic rather than intriguing. The heroine took actions that brought her trouble that could have been avoided; the hero acted somewhat carelessly in situations where he had no control, situations which it seemed obvious to bide your time and judge your circumstances carefully to make a sound move at the appropriate moment. As usual, though, these authors write some great steamy, love scenes. Overall a good story, and though not especially appealing to me, others may enjoy it.

I really expected more from this duo. I mean, I always expect a bit of ultra violence from them but usually they can really pile on the abuse/feels. This was so uncharacteristically simplistic and not in a good way. They could have really fleshed out their background connection with more flashbacks. I got whiplash when the h went from timid and scared to falling for the H in what appeared to be 24 hours...48 tops.

Zane & Dove’ Story Comes To An End
*arc generously provided by the promo team in exchange for an honest review*

CRUEL OBSESSION (The Obesseion Duet Book 1) REVIEW

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Dove finds herself in a unique situation, one that she has never been before. Things can’t get any worse. But never say never…

This was a quick read for me. In the second part of this duet, the world gets expanded. New characters are added and situations go from bad to atrocious. While in book one there was little steam, here we get a lot of intimate scenes. For me, that was one of the better parts of the story. I still admire and respect the work ethic of these authors and I will continue to read their work because they deserve it. I will explain why I only give three stars in the following.
Deadly Obsession started with a bang, but, unfortunately, the middle part felt dragged out. By the end, I just didn’t feel as invested. I was curious about some characters and whether they were bad or good, but other than that the twist was foreseeable, made quite obvious with numerous hints, and it made the experience less enjoyable. I didn’t particularly enjoy Zane, yet I found ways to understand his stalker and obsessive ways. That was his character; this isn’t a soft New Adult, so it’s understandable. He went through his own thing here. However, Dove was a weak link here. She was indecisive as hell. Decide: Do you want to be your own hero or do you want others to keep saving you? Regrettably, she annoyed me. Here, even the heroines from the Blackthorn Elite series would’ve put up a better fight. She fake-defied people and in my opinion, it wasn’t because she was so savvy that she can handle tricking mafia men. She’s built up to be this bad-ass, but it seemed like it was only a façade because she didn’t act that way all the time throughout the novel. I barely believed some of her decisions and how she actually succeeded in being this supposed badass.
I recommend this read to anyone who enjoy the twistedly dark reads by Beck & Hallman, family drama, innocent leading ladies and obsessed leading males willing to risk it all for their lady.

Deadly Obsession (The Obsession Duet 2)
𝑨𝒓𝒄 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘.

Starting the second book, going in I had a handful of theories of where the story could lead. Never was I expecting what when down.

Zanes possisiveness was a bit overbearing for me. It was fine in book one but his inner monologue got repetitive and gradually annoying over time. However I loved his obsessive love for the heroine.

The heroines character developed and you can clearly see how shes grown a backbone. Our little dove trapped in a cage. I found it amusing that she kept getting kidnapped, moving from one hand to another and then another. This girl has all the bad luck in the world. Shes lucky to have a knight to rescue her.

I DROPPED EVERYTHING as soon as I got this ARC. I don’t sign up for many arcs anymore but this, this isn’t something I could go without!

If you haven’t already read part 1 “Cruel Obsession” you need to IMMEDIATELY!

Book 2 was intense, action packed and steamy AF!

I didn’t think I could love Zane more then I already did, but boy does he come through in oh so many ways in part 2!

Look up badass in the dictionary and there’s a picture of him there.

Oh and Dove. Holy Dove! She really became the badass heroine I wanted her to be in book one!

Girl you were fantastic!

I am really sad this duet is over cause I already miss it!
I love me an action, mafia, intense, crazy romance story and THIS DUET gave me ALL of it!

Going to order myself the #paperbacks now.

2 - 2.5 stars?

This book should never exist and this story should never be a duet.

I am DNFing since I'm bored out of my mind and the heroine is dangerously grinding on my last nerve, like it was the last dick at a bacheloterre party.

And tbh, i don't need to read it to know how it will end.

Deadly Obsession is the second book of the Obsession Duet and I have to say it was just as or even better than the first book. We get so much information about Dove and her past and some huge surprises that you don't expect. I was so happy to see some past characters from other books and the twists that J.L. and Cassie brought to this second book.

If you are looking for a highly entertaining story that keeps you guessing and on your feet, this is the duet you are looking for!

Loved it

This one was action packed! Lots of secrets revealed and fighting between the most powerful mafia families. Some of them want to hurt Dove or use her against the others but Zane is determined to protect her, save her, love her, and never give her up. This man goes through some stuff in this book for Dove. It hurt my heart to see Zane struggle and in pain sometimes physically and other times emotionally.

description

Dove is in more danger than I ever could’ve imagined, and I’m not sure I can protect her from the evil that’s lurking in the dark, murky waters.

Totally different from the first book but still good. Some things didn't change. Zane is still obsessed. That man loves her with no end in sight. He was willing to die for Dove. I could just eat this man up with a spoon. He was everything I love in a book boyfriend.

description

“Then let’s go inside, get her, and kill the bastard who’s trying to hurt her,”

I watched you, snuck in your apartment, killed assholes that only wanted you for sex, and guess what?”

“I’d do it all again. Over a hundred times. Again, and again because you’re mine, Dove. All mine, and the next time someone tries to take you away from me, I won’t fail you. I’ll kill them with my bare hands, and make you watch just to prove to you that I will never let you down again.”

Dove annoyed me in the first book but I will give her credit. She grew as a character and learned that she can't always be the damsel in distress and wait for Zane to save her. Sometimes she needed to save herself.

description

This is Zane, the dark, psychotic criminal that would slaughter, destroy, and rip the world apart for me, and he is all mine. I’ll never give him up. Never.

As far as spice this book had more sex than the first one. It was fast paced but the chemistry between the characters and the spice kept me invested in Dove and Zane as a couple. The entire duet was pretty balanced with spice and plot. My favorite parts was when Zane just had to punish Dove or show her who she belonged to. I'm a sucker for a controlling alpha male. I really needed to see them get their HEA!

description

“I want you to know that even though I love you, I want to hurt you. I want to make you bleed the way you made my heart bleed when you forced me to leave you with Matteo,” I say, my voice quivering with emotion. I’d never been angrier and scared all at once. The memory of her forcing me to leave, telling the guards to toss me out is all I can see in my mind. Open that pretty mouth of yours. The same mouth that slayed me with such hateful words. I’m going to fuck it, fuck your mouth, throat, and then your pussy.”

I love how the story wrapped up and couldn’t ask for a better ending. We find out that someone steps forward who is unexpected to help Dove and Zane. We find out why they want to help and it made the ending all the more sweet. I really liked the last couple of chapters. Dove never knew what it was like to be loved or have people she could depend on before.

description

Sometimes the love your life is right in front of you. Other times, he’s hiding right outside your window, watching you sleep.

Dove and Zane are definitely worth the read.

I think I was expecting something more, don't get me wrong, it's a good sequel to the first part, but I would have liked to have more suspense, more drama, it was too predictable. However, I liked very much the hot and steamy scenes and Zane's passion and possessiveness.

4 Obsessive Stars

Picking up exactly where book 1 left off, this book brought more action, smut, and twists to the duet!

So much changed for Dove and Zane in book 2.

Dove is faced with new revelations regarding her heritage and the consequences they bring. Nothing is simple anymore(not that anything was truly simple before, but things were easier when Dove was just a captive in the bunker) and Zane has to adapt to these changes. Dove seems to be coming into her own and while she was strong before, she turns into a straight bad ass in this book!

Zane is no longer the only man laying claim Dove and I was surprised by how he handled it. I expected more blood shed and resistance from Zane, but instead we see how Dove truly is his weakness. One thing remained true: Dove was Zane’s everything and he would do anything to keep her.

I found some events in book 2 predictable but still enjoyable. I loved the over the top obsession Zane had for Dove, despite the equally OTT declarations of love. Did things get cheesy? yes- but sometimes I like it cheesy. Overall, a great conclusion to the Obsession Duet!

DEADLY OBSESSION by JL Beck & C Hallman is book Two in The Obsession Duet Series. This continues the story of Zane and Dove, so you really should read the previous book 'Cruel Obsession' before starting this one. In addition to that information this book does have some previous characters from the series "The Rossie Crime Family" but you don't have to have read that series to enjoy this one. I just wanted to mention it in case you have and you might like to continue with those previous characters. This book starts where we left off with the dramatic ending. Dove is finding herself a hostage again but this time she isn't treated as Zane had done but that doesn't last to long before another Mafia family came in fighting and she was taken with them. Of course we learn what happened with Zane. This series has been nothing but a page turner for me. I could not put this book down until I found the last page. Love these author's writing and hope to read more from them soon.
