Dirty Like Brody is the second full-length novel in the Dirty series—a rockstar romance series about the members of the rock band Dirty and the women and men who love them.
Novels in the Dirty series are interconnected standalones, each with an HEA. (There are ongoing storylines that develop throughout the series, so reading them in order is not crucial but is recommended.)
Reading order: Dirty Like Me (Dirty #1) Dirty Like Us (Dirty #0.5) (novella) Dirty Like Brody (Dirty #2)
Jaine Diamond is a Top 50 Amazon US and a Top 5 international bestselling author. She writes contemporary romance featuring badass, swoon-worthy heroes endowed with massive hearts, strong heroines armed with sweetness and sass, and explosive, page-turning chemistry.
She lives on the beautiful west coast of Canada with her real-life romantic hero and daughter, where she reads, writes and makes extensive playlists for her books while binge drinking tea.
Her books have been translated into French, German and Hebrew.
Have you ever had a heroine you just want to shake and say “open your mouth and tell what happened”. That is how I felt with this book. Frustrated and ready to pull out my hair at times.
Jessa and Brody have known each other since childhood when Brody saved her from bullies. Their relationship developed over time because Brody is also best friends with Jessa’s brother Jesse (first book in the series). When Jesse and his friends form a band in their teens Brody becomes their manager and is still managing them now that they are selling out stadiums.
Jessa basically ran away as a teen and became a model. She has isolated herself from her family unit including Brody for years. Now she is back for her brother’s wedding and Brody is pissed/in love. Boy does he tell her off! He has no problems expressing his feelings. But the entire book could be solved by a simple conversation and open communication and therefore my frustration comes in. That is the majority of the book....this secret Jessa is keeping from everyone about why she ran away.
I am really loving this series though. The writing is great and it really keeps my attention. The books are on the longer side, but if you are looking for a good rockstar series Dirty is it.
After loving book one, I was so excited to see that there were more books in the series for me to devour. And I started this book straightaway with abandon.
And what a buzzkill, folks. Because not only did I not enjoy this one...it also made me have NO desire to read the book after this.
The main reason?
Jessa and "the secret" she says she's going to tell Brody right when the book starts...and then proceeds to not tell him until almost 90% in. So annoying. And when it finally arrived, it was SO lame.. I HATE when authors do that. It's obnoxious. And not only did she hang it over our heads the whole book, she taunted us with near misses throughout. And not in a good way.
She also managed to make me have zero desire to read the next book as I couldn't care less about either main lead. What a bummer.
Maybe I will come back to this series later, maybe not. But for now, no interest.
6.5 years after leaving home to pursue her modelling career, Jessa is back for her brother’s wedding. She reunites with angry Brody, the boy she loved her whole life, now a man, the manager of her brother’s band, Dirty, and furious with her for leaving. Why did she? Too late, no explanations, Brody tells her. She should think of him as dead to her.
Besides, he has a girlfriend and he’s banging her at this long wedding weekend thing, where everyone drinks a lot and talks about penises and music and which band members they’ve hooked up with. It’s all very.
Everybody is thrilled that Jessa’s back and they want her to stick around, write songs, play with the band, etc. And Jessa halfway commits to it, because she maybe wants to finally tell Brody why she left 6.5 years ago, although if she can get him back without telling him, maybe they could just do that?
‘What’s wrong with Jessa’ was a mildly important sub-plot in the first book of the series, ‘Dirty Like Me.’ Jesse, her brother, had persuaded her to write lyrics for his solo album, but she was dodging his calls and wasn’t committing to any meet up plans. Jesse didn’t know why she was being like this: unhappy, disconnected, refusing to do something she loved (write music) and he was worried she was still grieving over their mother’s death (about 8 years ago) and that she may have been thinking about suicide (their father completed suicide when she was 9).
This is a long and empty book, and it makes me sad to say that because I read Diamond’s forward about how much she loved these characters and their story. I wanted to love them too. I think she spent too long with each of them in their miserable places, and then had an unbalanced ending that felt like a rush to the finish line.
Jessa is highly introverted, and aware of her sadnesses and the dangers in falling into them. She’s very controlled in what she’s willing to share of herself. Frustratingly for the other characters in the book, she isn’t willing to share a great deal emotionally.
Part of the story of her relationship with Brody is told in childhood flashbacks, where he was her protector. Their first meeting is told very early in the book, and it established Jessa’s character completely. She’s 8, and she’s retreated to the top of a climbing dome, while two older boys bully her and tell her she has shit on her pants and is dirty. Jessa is trying to ignore them and retreat into herself when along comes Brody, 13, a cool dangerous older boy who threatens the bullies and forces them to eat what’s either mud or shit before they run off. Jessa and Brody then discuss what Jessa is doing on top of the dome, and Jessa says she’s being the princess, which Brody thinks is cute, although he also tells her she has to stand up for herself and be brave. She won’t though. Jessa, when threatened, retreats into herself.
Brody decides that child Jessa is adorable: she’s pretty, she idolises him and she’s a bit of a dork. He gets to spend more time with her as she grows up. It’s all a bit murky when he tells 15 year old Jessa that he’ll wait for her, but it’s nowhere near the worst thing that’s ever happened between a child heroine and her older hero.
Brody’s faults are that he’s angry and judgemental and emotionally abusive to Jessa. And both of them seem willing to agree that Brody being angry and judgemental and emotionally abusive to Jessa is what Jessa deserves, because she left and because she retreats into herself. I don’t think they really properly resolve this.
Brody and Jessa have very few genuinely nice moments together, because everything is overshadowed by whatever it is that Jessa is concealing from Brody, and because to Brody, Jessa is a flight risk and he can’t risk being hurt the same way again. He has his own rotten childhood stuff as well. The worst of it comes out very late, and as a sort of a full disclosure afterthought, which is disturbing since it doesn’t feel like it’s properly dealt with at all, as if just communicating it is enough to show that both these characters have suffered pain and because they’ve talked about it while now understand each other better and everything will be fine. Probably, it won’t be.
The fact that they so rarely emotionally connected without a whole lot of tense baggage also overshadows their sex scenes. Diamond does a good long build up to sex, and writes a good passion scene, but it’s difficult to get enthusiastic about these two characters together when they are clearly so distant.
My ‘what’s wrong with Jessa’ theory for almost the entirety of the book was that she was raped. The plot I’d constructed had her raped by Seth, the drug addicted band member who was kicked out of the band not long after the band completed its first tour. I’d had her keeping silent about the rape because she didn’t want to risk her family and friends not believing her, and because she devalued herself. I’d had her convinced that Seth was more important to the band than she was, so she just let it all go.
I was sort of wrong.
When the story finally comes out, it’s that Jessa traded sex in exchange for drugs. Seth introduced her to drugs when she was at her most vulnerable, after her mother’s death, and kept feeding the addiction he’d helped her form. Jessa was also feeling incredible pressure to be the girl her brother and Brody and all her friends wanted her to be, the sweet, perfect pretty good girl. Jessa was 16 when this started, Seth 19, and Jessa had told Seth that she was in love with Brody (but Brody was with another girl) and Seth had told Jessa he was in love with her.
This revelation comes near the end of the book, as Jessa confesses all this to Brody, and Brody immediately leaves to punch Seth, who he accuses of rape, and kick him out of the band. Seth had been invited to rejoin the band when Jessa turned down the offer of playing with the band, as well as being their lyricist. Jessa, prior to confessing all of this to Brody, had warned Seth that she was going to reveal all, and she was giving him the opportunity to tell his side of the story. Which he didn’t do.
Jessa denies that it was rape. She felt ashamed of keeping her addiction secret, and she felt like a whore for trading sex for drugs and that’s why she got out. She knew she couldn’t be in the band and free herself of her addiction.
The whole tone of this book is dark and it feels like a departure from the first book, which was a more fun ‘ordinary girl meets rock star’ plot. I could have let this one go as just slightly off and not for me, but then the epilogue switches to Seth’s POV. He’s gone into exile with a different name, playing with another band, when he discovers that the band will do a documentary based on the search to fill his place in the band. Seth has grown a beard and doesn’t look like he used to look, so he decides he’ll go audition in disguise. He’s annoyed that Jessa told everyone that he’d raped her, because he didn’t. So all of this is sounding vaguely threatening and like he’s going to be the villain in the next book, but the title of the next book is ‘Dirty Like Seth,’ suggesting that he’s the hero.
Which just seems horrible. Even if we accept that Seth isn’t a rapist, he’s still a boy who got a vulnerable girl addicted to drugs, and exploited her vulnerability. I’d take a redemption story where he acknowledges and atones for what he’s done, but how is he romantic hero material?

Let me just start by saying that Jessa ruined this book for me. I cannot tolerate childish lead heroines. It goes against my nature to overlook and accept such annoying, irrational behaviors.
So this one got 2.5 ✨ from me. The half 🌟 is because some of the other things happening in this story I enjoyed. Like seeing the wedding and some of the shenanigans of the wedding weekend, for Jesse and Katie.
Also, Brody made it a little bearable too, but even he started to wear on my nerves cause I couldn't see why someone like him kept on just taking and dealing with Jessa and her silliness.
And the introduction to Seth/as well as his Epilogue in this book that leads you to his book, book 3.. These reasons are why it got that half 🌟
It's just way too difficult and too much to ask of the reader, to deal and sympathize with an MC like Jessa. ESPECIALLY when her POV is majority of the book as well. So nope this one was not my cup of tea 🍵.
All the drawn out unnecessary drama with Jessa, and taking forever to reveal what her issues were, just really killed it for me. She could have said long before 7 years what her problem was and why. Then when she finally does come back she's still pulling the same old childish mess instead of just saying and doing what needs to be done.
Her irritating, irrational, silent back & forths with everyone, truly ticked me off. To the point that when things were FINALLY revealed, I didn't even feel bad for her. Because her big reveal, it essentially just boiled down to she was a 16-18yr old child who did alot of dangerous mess, cause she didn't have the proper adult supervision to help, protect, and hold her accountable for her behavior.
And even after getting herself together, and years of cutting herself off in order to "Heal" she comes back and her mentality hasn't changed at all. She's still acting, emotionally anyway, like that child that left all those years ago.
So no. Jessa ruined this story for me. She gets no sympathy here.🤷♀️
So I am gonna take a little mini breather break here, before I read the 2.5 Novella, and possibly book 3 (Seth).
I'm trying to give this Author a big benefit of the doubt, because book 1 was so amazingly written.🥰 So I would definitely recommend that book.. But based off of how horrible the Prequel is, as well as this book, I can't say yet that I would recommend this series as a whole.
Sexy musicians, friendly banter and some strong chemistry makes Dirty Like Brody a 5 star read to me.
The band Dirty’s manager, Brody, has a secret thing for Jessa Mayes, sister to his fellow band mate. Keeping his feelings under wraps for all these years was hard but now that he has been put in charge of Jessa’s attendance and behavior at her brother’s wedding…its nearly impossible.
Jessa has been running from Brody, the biggest mistake of her life, since that one day that sent her running in the first place. Now she is back to be a bride’s maid in her brother’s wedding and she is going toe to toe with all the wounds from her past…including Brody!
AMAZING ROCK ROMANCE! Copious amounts of meaty story and character development to back up the explosive chemistry and a marvelous supporting cast to boot!
We now have “romance” authors writing “romance” heroines who have traded SEX for drugs. This is how repulsive and grotesque the genre has become where this is somehow considered ok. I used to joke that some of these writers have the romantic compass of a meth whore, and apparently it’s no longer just a joke.
I really wanted to like this book because of Brody’s behavior as a child and the glimpse of his personality in Dirty Like Me, but ugh, he admittedly has serious anger management issues and is so hot and cold with Jessa even while in his head it’s confusing. He hates her, loves her, he’s done with her, he can’t live without her, good grief only teenagers are this dramatic. Then there is Jessa. If you take a flaky personality, dip it in insecurity, wrap it in immaturity and then deep fry it in ignorance and drama you get Jessa.
The removal of one of the stars is that the reader waits almost the entire book for Jessa’s big, devastating secret that is sure to push Brody away (not to mention kept her away for almost 7 years) and when you finally get to it, as the reader I’m like that’s it, she thought Brody wouldn’t want to be with her and everyone would hate her if she fessed up to stuff she did as a teenager? No kidding, a teenager lied? 🤥🤭 That’s the secret? 🤬 (I won’t give away what actually happened but I don’t want new readers to be as disappointed as I was to learn it was just something that many teenagers do and not a relationship deal breaker type secret).
So basically Brody is a possessive nutcase that is in love with a person he doesn’t actually know as an adult, and Jessa is in love with a man she remembers as a teenager, but since they loved each other as kids and the sex as adults is fantastic, everything will turn up roses. 🙄 Bottom line, the storyline wasn’t horrible except the secret reveal part and I had a bit of a personality problem with the characters so the removal of the second star.
I think I just read a book where the MMC groomed the FMC... but it's okay because someone in the band was much worse than he was.
- 15 year old Brody walks into a 10 year old girls room and sees her naked... but it's okay he didn't do it on purpose. - 20 year old Brody kisses 15 year old Jessa because he can't bear the thought of anyone else being her first kiss... - 21/22 year old Brody and 16/17 year old Jessa are regularly sharing a bed, making out whilst Brody tells her he loves her, will wait for her until she's ready...
At the same, 16 year old Jessa is being abused by a member of her brother's band who is a couple of years older than her, and is exchanging sex for drugs AND he's the MMC of book 3... someone save me now.
Is the age of consent not a thing we consider in books anymore???
This is marketed as a contemporary romance, so can authors stop normalising this type of relationship. That man should not have been thinking of her in any sexual way before the age of 18. Rolling around in bed together? Yeah, I'm calling the police. I don't care that she has always 'looked' older. Her behaviour in the book definitely did not showcase an adult and even at 24, this girlie needed A LOT of therapy.
Age-gap romances where the FMC is emotionally immature... yeah, it always feel gross and creepy. Sorry, not sorry.
This one had a completely different vibe to the first book, which was a lot lighter. This was angsty and repetitive AF.
As a reader I appreciate obstacles couples need to get through, but Jessa is a flighty fortress keeping secrets for much too long, and in retaliation to her actions Brody comes off like a manipulative child who throws his toys the minute he doesn’t get exactly what he wants. It goes on for the majority of the book and when the reveals are done there’s not enough payoff for a romance. Honestly, I felt for their issues. They both had fairly shitty childhoods that would scar anyone but I just didn’t really end up loving them as characters.
The epilogue could have been used to cement these two in their HFN/HEA but instead it’s dedicated to Seth, who’s in the next book, which I’ll likely read.
How is no one star review talking about how problematic and just wrong it is that an 18 year-old was crushing on a 13 year-old and then it’s even justified with that she always looked and behaved older? And then they kissed when she was 15 and he was 21/22? And that he would have gone further if she hadn’t stopped it? This is not just problematic, it’s just wrong. Every time such a flashback was written out I was so uncomfortable I almost dnf’ed. The only reason I didn’t dnf this book was because I liked the first of the series and I liked the glimpse and promises we readers had gotten for future works and I didn’t want to have gaps before continuing with the next book. As for the characters and their relationship besides these flashbacks: it was a hot mess and not the good kind. The constant back and forth, both being toxic and then after all that happened they connect over sexting? I just don’t buy it. I have to admit that I was rooting for them in the end, maybe because I just wanted it to be over and done with but probably also because deep down I am a sucker for childhood friends to lovers with long pining but that was just too much, especially when that pining was going on when she was barely a teenager and he was 18. I’m not sure how the author and editor(s) could ever think that was okay and that her looking and behaving like she’s older is a good enough excuse besides the fact that they never actually were sexually involved with each other while she was still a minor. Just no.
I’ve become a fan of Jaine Diamond and her boys and girls in the rock band Dirty. This is Brody and Jessa’s story and it is written with the drama that seems to usually follow bad boys in famous bands. Dirty was a band made up of childhood friends who are more like family than anyting else and like most families along with their love comes a lot of heartache. Brody was always their friend; just not one of the friends with musical talent. His talent came in the form of being their manager and he did well for the boys and himself. Brody had a tough life and took on a bad boy persona from the start but he also became the savior of Jessa Mayes. As kids Brody took to Jessa but knew with the age difference at that time he could only admire her from afar even though she was the kid sister to his best friend Jesse. This meant that Brody had watched Jessa grow up into an amazingly beautiful woman. Jessa had talent not only being a lyricist to a lot of Dirty’s music but also as a model.
Jessa was dealing with her demons that she let take her from the only family she knew and kept her from them for six years. The only thing bringing Jessa back at this time was her brother’s wedding. The man she ran from was going to be there…along with his girlfriend. That had to hurt but she couldn’t stop watching Brody. As for Brody he was pissed off that after all of this time Jessa had not once answered any of his calls or messages. Just how long was Brody to wait for Jessa? That attraction was still there but along with that attraction came all of the demons that had sent Jessa running away from her friends and family. So what did send Jessa running and how long can you actually expect someone to wait? Is loving someone worth the risk that they may very well hurt you and/or leave you yet again?
Ms. Diamond has done a great job again of bringing you characters that she molds into people you can’t get enough of and leaves you feeling totally invested in their lives. Dirty Like Brody takes you in and behind the music scene along with taking your heart and putting it all out there. This is one of the series that always has me waiting with great anticipation as to who we are going to be up close and personal with next!
I received this book as an ARC from a freely given and honest review.
However this one was just ok for me BUT this book is pivotable in this series bc a lot of info is involved. These characters....ALL of them are freaking ridiculous GOOD!
I just wish these characters were less in their head/past and more in the present with the dialogue.
Jessa ran away from her family and herself at the age of 18 to pursue modeling. Jessa has done very well in her career choice however leaving Brody behind was hard but necessary.
Brody never understood why Jessa could not commit to him but he gave her the space she needed. But 6 ½ years of silence on Jessa end was just too much to take and it pissed him off.
Jessa has to overcome her demons and face her actions by telling Brody and everyone the truth about her past. She just never seems to get the words out but she loves Brody and if she wants to be with him Brody has to know the truth. Brody might hate her forever and not want her anymore but she has to try because the secrets and the lies are going to tear them apart anyway.
Brody loves Jessa and has told her so, she just is not listening. He has tried to move on, unsure what Jessa’s problem is with being with him. Jessa’s main problem is she hates herself and does not want to face her past actions much less tell her family. Jessa has no idea who she really is and needs to figure that out.
Brody has to get through to Jessa and Jessa needs to understand her family loves her and is here for her no matter what. Can Brody’s love for Jessa conquer her fears and bring her back to life?
I love Brody!! 😫😭 His patience. His love for Jessa. He's the perfect book boyfriend.
Then he put his forehead to mine, panting softly. “Do you need me to say it? Because I fucking will. Do not leave me again. If you go across the fucking world again and I can’t see you… touch you… and you’re gonna freeze me out and pretend I don’t exist, I will not be able to handle it, Jessa.” He cupped my face in his hands. “Promise me you aren’t gonna do that again.” Him 😫
"I took her chin and drew her face close to mine. “I have loved you forever, Jessa Mayes. Pretty sure I was fucking born to love you. I know you didn’t really believe me when I said so, or maybe you just didn’t want to… but I would’ve waited for you forever.”
(Don’t ever leave me… I can’t fucking breathe without you…) 😍😍😍😍
**Childhood friend to lovers **Slow burn 😘😘 **Age gap (He's 5 yrs older) **Chemistry 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏 **Overprotective Guy 🫠🤤
Jessa and Brody have had feelings for each other since they were children, first friendship, and then as they got older more intense feelings. Jessa lost her parents at a young age and was raised mostly by her brother Jesse who was in the rock group Dirty and rose to fame with them. Jesse and his friends protected Jessa and watched her grow up, including Brody who she had a crush on for years. After one intense time where Brody kisses her and tells her that he'll wait for her to be ready, Jessa puts distance between them and starts hanging out with Seth a newer bandmate of her brother who at the time is into drugs. Brody is of course jealous, and things only get worse when after telling Jessa how he feels she leaves and doesn't return for almost seven years, until her brother Jesse is getting married. Upon her return she doesn't expect Brody to have so much anger toward her and resentment, but he does, and she is devastated. The two of them however can't escape one another and soon give into their feelings for each other. But Jessa needs to open up and tell Brody why she really left and Brody needs to trust that Jessa is done running. This book was full of angst and drama. I liked Jessa and Brody together and enjoyed reading about the other characters. Maggie and Zane, and Jesse and Katie especially but I didn't like Jessa's friend Roni and I thought she was bad news. I know there is a book about Roni and Jude but I'm not really looking forward to that book or the book about Seth because I didn't really like him in this 'Dirty' book.

I had high expectations after the first book, but this one dragged. The secret that the h held back for over 80% of the book after "deciding" to just tell the H within the first few minutes of reading the book then almost revealed at least 5-6 more times but. never. fucking. did. and the author didn't let us in on it so it was just worked up to be this huge thing and then I was so let down. I figured it was some kind of sexual assault, but not only was it apparently not technically rape it was supppper ambiguous not only to the readers but to the characters because they're all like is it rape? should we hate him? it's still fucked up? Idk? and left us hating this new character that is going to have his own book next in the series? Like why. Absolutely no one and I mean NO ONE likes that character or wants a happy ending for him. This could've been a cool story, I like Brody, I kind of liked Jessa but she got so annoying with her wishy washy BS, the "almost" reveal happened like 5 times too many. What happened to her was fucked up, but the author held on to it for so long that it just annoyed the readers and built it up too much for what it was. Sad cause I liked this series a lot but the next book does not seem appealing at all. (Not to mention really dumb premise...like really his band mates/ex-best friends aren't going to recognize him with a beard? come on...)

I wondered why Brody [Band Manager] was always all business and never one to let down his facade?? That said I guess the reason behind that is that is heart belonged to Jessa and it was his own dirty secret he kept only to himself. Jessa is that younger sister of Jesse and basically a family member of the band. We are introduced to her character in the earlier books and find out she use to write for the band and is now a model. What we don't know is that both Brody and Jessa are hiding feelings for the other from not only themselves but each other.
Jessa has been running from her past for years and is finally forced to confront her biggest mistake when she attends her brother's wedding. Brody is tasked with making sure Jessa doesn't skip town and miss his best friends wedding. What becomes evident from the moment they finally see each other again is that well the feelings have been buried they are still right under the surface waiting to bubble over. The hidden jem in their story is that we get to see where it all started and looking back into the years [Jessa at the age 8 on the playground and Brody the bad boy 12 year old protecting her from the start] was a treat that makes their story so much stronger. Their family life stories are both different, but it is evident that both faced challenges that left them scared. It is evident pretty quickly following Jessa's return to everyone associated with the band how important these two are to one another. The real question is will these two be able to let down their guard long enough to ensure they can finally build on the feelings they have for each other.
Let me just say that I am totally digging all of the members of the band and I really can't wait to see what comes next in the series.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Brody is Dirty's business manager. He grew up with the guys from the band. That also means he grew up with Jesse's little sister Jessa.......
Once again, this is my second time reading this book. Idk why, after 5 years, I suddenly decided to pick this series up again. I'm not even sure yet if I'm glad I did. 😜
I'm not sure how I feel about this read. Jessa is only 15, where Brody is 20 the first time he kisses her. When he promised to wait til she was "ready," my daughter is 15. It reads differently now. I wouldn't want a 20 year old man kissing my child of a daughter. I think it's probably just me, but I couldn't quite get behind it even if he did stop and wait till she grew up.
This book has everything. Angst, rock stars, drugs, a wedding, and even a motorcycle gang! It was a one-stop shop for romance tropes. Age gap, friends to lovers, second chance, brothers best friend, found family, he falls first....... the list goes on and on.
I did find the big reason for leaving a little convoluted. It didn't make a whole lot of sense that with all those overprotective people around her, not one of them even remotely picked up on it.
Overall, it's a fun read, but don't expect it to be deep. It's a little snack when you can't decide on your next book.
Gah I loved so much of this book! I ate it up!! The animosity was palpable but so was the heartache!! Brody and Jessa were aching for each other!!
This, just like book 1, was wayyyyyy toooooo looooong! Too much redundant internal dialogue. I also didn’t like the way the “secret” was handled with Seth BUT I suppose it had to be done in order to set up his book.
The slow burn was burning and then it was just fire. So much sex again and don’t get me wrong - I’m a big fan - but it drew out an already overly long story.
The age thing when they were young didn’t sit quite right with me even if Brody didn’t act on anything. It was a bit icky. I didn’t ever feel like it was predatory but I did wish Jessa hadn’t been that young.
2.8⭐️….. like i read it really fast….doesnt mean i thought it was good…. im kind of just on a roll with this series and im like INTRIGUED, i LIKE the characters (kind of?) but this one was just like not v developed as not as hot. i love the whole long love vibe but it just wasn’t doing much for me. the failure of communication here while although i kind of understand it made it frustrating to read. idk lol this one was blah. ALSO I NEED TO STOP READING BOOKS LIKE THESE BC THE COVERS ARE SO EMBARRASSING LIKE WHY
A brilliant read.Brody and Jessa waited so long to be with each other but the time they spend apart living their own lives going through the experience they did has helped then to understand more whet they meant to each other the maturities of life can help you appreciate everything better. They are so good together. Lots of love and Passion, they were made for each.
I will do a more thorough review later - I finished reading this on an overnight shift so I am a bit lagged. I really enjoy this author's style of writing and I have fun with the characters she creates. The first book was fun and I immediately signed up to follow the author because I really want to know what happens to these guys. That has only increased after reading this one. I feel like I really got to know everyone much better after this and I am seriously looking forward to the next book. I am going to rant a little about one aspect of this book that irritated me but I would like to say ahead of time that I did still give this book a solid B rating and I was really glad I read it. I just need to rant about this one thing...
SPOILER...ISH AHEAD
That said...this book would have been a 4+ star easy with an A rating if it hadn't been for one thing. It is sometimes necessary to withhold past information for a time to add mystery or to keep the reader guessing/interested/involved, etc. After that certain amount of time...I hate you and want to punch the characters in the face. (The lag may be adding emphasis) When I looked at my kindle and realized we were over 40% into the book and we still had NO IDEA what the freaking reason was for all the angst...I will be real, I threatened the kindle, the author and the characters. I may have also gestured aggressively. This is annoying by itself but to keep it going (as any good author does in this situation) she gave small pieces that don't fully explain the whole. My struggle with this was it didn't really feel that way. It ended up feeling like I kept being trapped in a room with two people arguing about something in a code that I don't know. I couldn't even choose sides or reason things out because: CODE. It also went something like this *me watching back and forth as the argument continues* "Oh! So maybe it was...Ok, apparently not. Wait, did she just mean...? Nope. Not that either." *BIG REVEAL in the argument* "SO it was really about..." *Turns out that was something they were mad about that wasn't the real issue still* After about 4 of these arguments - followed by the heroin thinking "I really have to tell him the real issue, the real reason but I don't know how he will feel when he knows so I am going to be a chicken and not say anything for a while more" (EVERY TIME) - I was intrigued enough to stick around, invested enough because of the characters likability but it was a VERY close call. I stopped being intrigued and started just feeling left out of the story. Like watching a sequel film that is going to tie up answers the first film left only to have the sequel made up of scenes where the camera only shows up in the middle of conversations or scenes and fading out before resolution. WHAT ARE YOU SAYING TO ME?!?!?!?!? It was incredibly frustrating. As a reader, I like to know what's going on. I like to choose sides. I like to guess how this is going to play out. I like to give the characters advice that I am fully aware they can't hear. I also like to be able to comfort myself by justifying behaviors with reason and logic. It is exceptionally annoying when the characters are doing ridiculous things (the same things repeatedly) and you are half way through the book and you still don't know why. You can't guess how soon they will get over it (if ever). You can't tell if they are within reason or just being jerks. Maybe the big reveal is big. But maybe not. I would like to assume they are acting within proportion to the situation but that is not always the case. I once read a book and I was trying really hard to be sympathetic to the heroin because the few insights we had implied serious trauma. Only to have the delayed reveal turn out to be that her 'trauma' was her parents divorcing when she was an adult but they still loved her, showed it and individually openly adored her. Now, not to downplay the trauma that is divorce but the hints made it seem like serious abuse...I couldn't take her seriously after that. That is not the fault of this author (Jaine did not disappoint) - or maybe anyone except me because my imagination tries desperately to fill in the blanks but Limbo is not fun for me as a reader. Now, maybe you are a reader that has no problem with this kind of thing. If that is the case, Enjoy. It truly was a good read. Just beware otherwise. Sometimes knowing the struggle ahead of time helps me keep my expectations in check so I can truly enjoy the story.

this book was nothing like the first (i really really loved the first one.). this is not bad but it didn’t felt really good either.
half of it was brody mad (but not really) with jessa leaving him while we - readers - couldn’t understand why. so i - of course - thought it would be because of something super OMG but when she tells us all this mistery - the other half of the book - i was like … ???
it didn’t make much sense TO ME. and i got pissed - i kinda hate when the main character keeps on running from the love of her life just because she is scared. just don’t.
to end, this plot involves seth - the main character of the next book which i don’t think i’ll be reading because the author wasn’t capable of making me want to know him since he was a drug addicted and that’s basically what we know about him. (?)
Oh man, this was QUITE the ride. Book one, Dirty Like Me, ends with an epilogue from Jessa’s point of view. About Brody. And oh my god it sucked me in immediately. I had to know what happened between them and what their future would hold. This story satisfied my every desire.
Oh sweet, self-sabotaging, furious Brody. What a perfect alpha male. I think I may have actually physically drooled while reading this. Brody and Jessa have known each other since she was eight and he was thirteen. He was this tough-looking, leather-jacket-wearing, knight in shining armor in Jessa’s eyes. She loved him from the moment they met. He became Jessa’s older brother, Jesse’s, best friend, meaning he was around all the time. Especially since none of the kids had great parental figures, they all kind of banded together and became their own family. Throughout the novel, Jessa thinks back on all her memories with Brody, and we get a front row seat to their complicated, emotional relationship. Brody saw Jessa as this beautiful, spunky child until one day she blossomed and he realized he was attracted to her. He remained her protector throughout her youth, until she mysteriously left him and her family behind after she graduated college and never looked back. The beginning of this novel is the first time Jessa and Brody have seen each other in six and a half years…and they are still just as furiously in love.
The beautiful way this novel weaves the past and the present together, painting the picture of these characters incredible lives is profound. I craved learning about their past as much as I needed to know what their future held. Book two in the Dirty Series filled my heart just as deeply as book one did. As much as I love every single one of these characters, knowing that book three is about Seth makes me nervous. It’s difficult to get on board with him finding his HEA after everything that happened with Jessa is revealed in this novel. I know I could never be let down, partially because I’m wondering if this is ultimately Elle’s happily ever after too…but I’m still nervous! I’m keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes high.
“I have loved you forever, Jessa Mayes. Pretty sure I was fucking born to love you. I know you didn’t really believe me what I said so, or maybe you just didn’t want to…but I would’ve waited for you forever.”
I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Jaine Diamond is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. Dirty Like Brody was another great addition to the Dirty Series. The characters were complex and vivid. They were complicated and realistic, even though they lived in this larger than life world of modeling and rock stars, motorcycle clubs, and drug addicts. It was so easy to sink into their world and be drawn in by their drama.
The book was exceedingly well written. I didn't feel bogged down by the narrative or distracted from the overall focus of the plot--and with a book that had so much conflict and backstory, that was rather amazing. I didn't run into any typos or structural errors that pulled me out of the narrative.
The romance between Brody and Jessa was equal parts sweet, broken, and steamy. The sex scenes were hot and very well written. They didn't feel rushed or exaggerated in the way I find a lot of sex scenes to be written in romance books at times. It was the perfect balance of romance and raunchy. I loved Brody and Jessa as a couple. They had a good balance of sexual tension, hatred, and undying love that made you want to root for them. The author did an excellent job of dangling the unknown drama of Jessa's past in front of us, making us wonder what her big secret was, without teasing the reader to the point of frustration.
I think the book was very well handled, and I was thoroughly entertained for the couple of hours it took me to get through it. If you enjoy contemporary romance with an undertone of "bad boy" drama, a whole lot of conflict and tension, and steamy sex scenes, this book is going to be right up your alley. I highly recommend you give it a try.
Brody Mason has been with the band, Dirty, from the beginning. He’s their long term manager who’ll do just about anything to keep the band happy, performing, and out of trouble. Especially when that trouble has the potential to break up the band.
Jessa Mayes is coming home to celebrate the marriage of her brother, Jesse. She’s been away for six years—and for those years she’s tried to forget all about the past, all about how her dream to be a song writer ended, how she let the love of her life go without saying goodbye.
But coming home is going to stir up that hornet’s nest. Six years is a long time to be gone without contact, without resolution and still carrying a torch for each other. Brody and Jessa’s relationship may have ended before it really got a chance to start, but the heart knows what the heart wants. Has too much time passed or will a love this intense still burn bright?
I am a total sucker for a rock star book. I love the debauchery, the music, the groupies, everything. And it makes it even better when a book is so damn well written, the story just sucks you right in and doesn’t loosen its grip until you read the last word. That’s what happened with Dirty Like Brody! Though, Dirty Like Brody is a bit different than the norm—it’s from their manager’s POV! Nice twist! It’s also a second chance romance and an enemies to lovers romance too.
There’s so much going on between Brody and Jessa. I loved how they finally worked their way back to each other, loved them together, but I think the storyline could have been tighten up a bit—getting them together sooner, as it seemed to drag in some spots. Over all, I really enjoyed their story. Loved getting to know more about the band and I can’t wait for the next one! ~ Missy, 4 stars
