What do you do when your planet runs out of women? Send for takeout, of course.
Torel is the best medical officer in the Pyrosian fleet, but being the best comes with a cost. When the queen orders him to apply to Star-Crossed Dating, he’s relieved when there’s no match for him among the human females of Earth. He doesn’t have time for that kind of distraction.
Mated or not, he’s on his way to Earth to help newly-mated females adjust to the life awaiting them on Pyros. All he has to do is keep them healthy and happy during the voyage home. It should be the easiest assignment of his career.
This book contains a widow determined to never fall in love again, and a doctor who is about to discover that when it comes to the heart, he’s still got a lot to learn.
Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

Sometimes love is the best medicine. Haley lost her husband to cancer and is afraid of facing that hurt ever again. She isn’t against getting a little something in the bedroom but is determined not to allow her heart to get involved. She never counted on Torel, doctor to the Pyrosian royals. Torel is committed to his job and his people and has no time for love. He never counted on Haley. These two were bound to be and it was fun watching them figure that out.
As I continue on the journey of this amazing series I am never disappointed with Susan’s ability to take you into her world and never want to leave. Her characters are relatable and sassy. A must read!
I have the rest of the series to enjoy and certainly did of these two characters. Torel is the medical officer and his thoughts are generally focused on his work and caring for those in need. Haley is at the gathering to hopefully see her friend find her mate. But explosions rain down and she blacks out, injured. Torel is busy working on those injured and as we know, he touches her seeing that spark. Given Haley's fierce nature and determination to not fall in love after having lost one already, it is a heated mating for this pair. They work it out over their own relationship hiccups. Even catching up with one of her friends. I loved the snippets of humour. Always a welcome read as we see these pairings grow. Now it is onto Radek's story.
So we were supposed to believe she was an itelligent journalist? 😅 She finds research about earth females also about fertility and thinks it is something really bad. From a freaking chief medical officers tablet who takes care of several earth females who are preagnant or who might want to be. Lord what a moron she is. After this it was hard to relate to her and her wailing and disregarding everything the medical scientist told her. I chewed myself through this but I sure hope the next books women have a bit higher IQ 🤣
Haley went to the gathering as Piper's guest and all went crazy when the explosions started. Haley is injured badly and is taken to the flagship medical area. Torel is the doctor in charge of all medical from Pyros, neither were looking for a mate but when she awakens asking about her friends she touched him and they spark. It's a long two days of sex and disagreements but they decide they do want to mate for life, she will not be going back to Earth.
This is the fifth book in the series. I love this series. The aliens are hunky, sexy, smart and eager, for the most part, for a mate. The human women that are chosen are smart, funny, sassy, and clueless as to what they are getting into. The journey through "The Scorching" is a rollercoaster and you never know what will happen at the end. Highly recommend.
Another enjoyable story in this series. I quite like the different perspectives the author is taking with the storylines, although I have often wished for a bit more depth and substance. Torel and Hayley were great together, despite it starting to feel like the loudly opinionated human women are always having to teach the males a few of the realities of relationships and life.
Great series, I'm loving it. The characters have been developed very well and are interesting. The powerful pull between Torel and Haley to satisfy the mating is strong. Well written leaving you with the desire to have one of those aliens for yourself.
It took almost 2/3 of the book for her to accept her fears about another mate and get over her grief of her husband's death. But all well that ends well sand they both got their HEA.
Torel is the chief medical officer of the flagship so when the explosion happened on earth the injured were brought aboard. Haley had a head injury. When she woke she touched Torel and sparks flew! Enjoy
The story and series are still interesting. I'm Interested in what's going to happen next. I kind of want to see how the over all story is going to play out.
Haley thinks she is at the gathering to get a good story & support her best friend. She isn't looking for any long term relationships. Her husband, who had been her soulmate, died of cancer a few years ago. She believes that getting attached to another male of any kind is betraying her vows to him. Torel, the ship's top doctor, is in about the same frame of mind. He is so devoted to his work he doesn't think he has time for a mate. When Haley has a skull fracture & a few other injuries she is brought to the ship, along with a few others. He gets around to look at her, just as she starts to wake up & ask questions, they touch. The spark that signifies their true mate jumps between them. She knows a little bit because her friend was in the dating system, then she really starts asking questions. A little startled himself, & afraid she will hurt her newly healed head injury, he sedates her. He is put on leave with her until the scorching is over. When she wakes up again in his quarters, he tries to explain. She is uneasy about it, & they try to say it can be a long distance relationship. Like when he comes back to Earth with the ship to bring candidates to find mates, he can come visit her. He has to leave for a while but wants her to stay in bed to rest. She finds out her friend Aria & her daughter are on board & go to find her. When she does they get to talking, & Piper, Aria's sister who was with her at time of the attack, hasn't been found yet. They are both a little worried until they are told it is believed she has been claimed by the Ice Dragon Prince, Radek. Aria is fairly upset, she is not too certain she wants her baby sister mated to a dragon. Haley is just dying laughing! She says only Piper would find herself a Dragon! By this time, Torel has tracked her down unhappy she did not stay in bed. She starts asking him what he knows about Romaki Dragons & when he asks why she tells him about Piper. The next morning she wakes up to him leaving he has been called to the infirmary for an emergency. She gets bored & starts looking at his human studies of compatibility, has the computer translate them. It's wording isn't all correct so it what she is reading doesn't sound like what he has been telling her for days. It sounds like they just see human women as breeding animals. She gets very upset. While this is going on, Torel is trying to save one of his officers he put in status until his mate could be healed. Nothing is helping him, Torel decides to try to get his mate to talk to him. She gets him to wake up & come back to her. Torel figures out that he doesn't want Haley for away from him for long amounts of time. He wants her to be with him always. When he goes back she is so upset she triggers a power that they didn't think she had. Fire starting. He tells her she needs to control her emotions & it will be easier, he will teach her. She tells him what she read, & what she thinks. He tells her some of was probably worded wrong, she is too upset to listen. She calls Aria to talk to her, they get around to what happened. She calms down, & sees how she needs to just talk to him. She goes to find him so they can talk things out. When things get sorted out, they are back in their quarters looking out & she sees something. She is wondering how Aria is going to take this. She just saw 2 dragons fly by. It will be interesting! She loves her little sister. It was another good one! I can't wait to open up Radek! I love dragons!
Piper and Haley watched as Aria entered the sports arena where she would meet her alien matched mate. Piper and Haley were afraid she would turn him down because she didn’t want to leave them to go to another planet. But both of them wanted only her happiness. They went to find seats to watch the matching events although neither had a match this time. Haley said she wasn’t even interested in a match since she had lost her husband to cancer. She didn’t want to go through that horrible loss again. You only love like that once.
The Pyrosians entered the arena and lined up. The VIPs took their seats on the stage. Everything was perfect and ready to begin – and then a huge explosion occurred!
Torel Zinn was the head medical officer for the Pyrosian royal family and served aboard their fleet’s flagship, the Firebrand. He chatted with Vadir and then prepared to take the shuttle with the Prince and Princess. Fortunately, although the queen had insisted he register for the mating process, he was not matched. He had no time for a mate with all the work he was doing. A mate would just distract him. Their shuttle was just descending into the open top of the stadium when an explosion rocked them. It banked hard and then climbed quickly to clear the stadium.
Haley woke to horrible pain that caused her to go unconscious again with the slightest movement. At some point, the pain stopped and she opened her eyes to a white room. A doctor in a black uniform approached and she reached for his hand to frantically ask where Piper was. A sudden blue spark arced between them – he had inadvertently found his mate!
Because Torel would soon be in the thrall of the Scorching, he would be unable to perform his duties. He told his staff and he was taken off active duty as Chief Medical Office for the next two days. They moved Haley to his room and, when she woke, he explained what would be happening to them. He told her after the two days, she could return to Earth. He had not wanted a mate so although Pyrosians do mate for life and, once the bond is sealed, he would never desire any other female, this could work for both of them. What could go wrong with such a well made plan?
Wow, this is an awesome book that drew me right in. There was so much going on! Out of the chaos of the explosion on Earth, we follow the fate of Aria, Piper, and Haley. Don’t miss reading this one – it was wonderful from start to finish!
Torel is the fifth book in the Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides Series, part of the Intergalactic Dating Agency universe, but while it connects to the previous book, it can stand alone. Torel is the head medical officer and focuses all of his attention on his work. He does not want a mate and had never considered having a family. After an explosion on Earth brings the injured females onto his spacecraft, Torel unexpectedly experiences the Spark with Haley. Haley has already had her chance at love and a soulmate, so when she experiences the Spark, they decide that when their Scorching ends, they’ll go their separate ways. But perhaps the Gods have other plans for Torel and Haley!
Oh my, I absolutely loved reading this fun addition to this series, I loved Torel and Haley, and I loved that they wanted to fight their connection! This was such a cool concept to me, because I wondered what would happen if a couple didn’t like each other or if the female didn’t want to leave Earth. Torel definitely had a scientific mindset, but I think my favorite thing about him was how he was so against a mate at the very beginning and you could just slowly see his shift in his thinking and eventually never wanted to let Haley stay on Earth without him! Haley was a little damaged from her past, so I love that she had to confront her issues in order to have a glimpse of the happiness she could find with Torel. They definitely had their own issues to work through, but I loved seeing previous characters, I enjoyed the direction the book took, and I look forward to reading Piper’s romance!
The first thing I'd say is lack of communication can be the reason for any and most downfalls. Reading the amazing series the same problem existed throughout the stories, species clash and get expectant and don't think things through.
Torel slides in the next book in this series A handsome Doctor that is all consumed with work and research. He was pretty sure he didn't have a mate and wasn't worried about it. Who had time for one his legacy was more important.
Haley she all about the facts being a journalist and about the catch and release that's been working for her since she lost her heart. She had no intention on getting heart involved with anyone else.
and then
This series has just been a lot of fun, Sci Fi is one of my go-to genre's and Susan Hayes makes it effortless with her delivery of sexy stubborn males and equal beautiful stubborn females. Nothing in life worth having is easy right. the Scorching is hot, the passion is sweet and it all comes together to be a great read. Enjoy
Another hot, steamy, scorching short read by Susan Hayes. Pun intended. Torel didn't really care for a mate. He had all he needed with his work. Haley never thought she would meet another man that would capture her heart because true love doesn't happen twice in a lifetime, right? Can they have a 2-night stand and go their separate ways? Oh, they think so. However, the gods have other plans. I loved the push and pull, the heat, the anger (Haley can get down right mad when told she can't). No spoilers, but we know there is an HEA, the journey there though is well worth it. I cannot wait for the next!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I love this series. Torel is as surprised as Haley when they Spark. I liked Haley until it came to her temper tantrums in Torel's quarters. He is trying everything he can do to please her and she isn't trying at all. She doesn't use her brain, everyone knows that translations from a computer are not perfect. After the closeness she shares with Torel, she goes off on a tangent and doesn't even listen to him. She is not one of my favorites when it comes to the women. Now, Piper's story I am chomping at the bit for. Really great series. I volunteered to read an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
Fun and unique story that's well written with angst, denial and steam.
This was a unique spin on the idea of a romantic match using a dating agency - neither the H nor h actually applied for, or want, a mate. Then they meet and the spark happens, igniting a smoking hot scorching. They both decide to ride out the scorching - what's a little 2-night stand when their chemistry is that hot?! Well, they find walking away, despite trust issues, denial and cultural differences isn't looking all that possible. Fate has more in store for this couple than a couple of days of smexy times and gives them a strong bond to try and resist. Good fun!
"I don't need no doctor, 'cause I know what's ailin' me..."
Torel recognizes all the signs when he meets his meant-to-be human mate. And then he ignores, denies, suppresses, and darn near works himself into a snit. Why? Because he (whine) doesn't want a mate. He wants to be the BigA$$ almighty famous doctor. No time for nookie, no no no... Funny thing - his destined human honey feels exactly the same way (and why does that get him all hot and bothered?) It's a goofy tale of non-lovers who backpedal themselves right into the red-hot flaming romance they think they don't need. Read it, and then say "Told ya so!"
Torel's behavior in this story just a little too off putting. I know its light and quick reading but these two went from it's just a booty call to true love forever really really fast. The fact that he kept insisting that they could go their separate ways after the scorching was idiotic, especially considering as a healer/doctor of his people surely he should know better than anyone what that actually meant. However it is a light and fun read just like all the others, perfect for that bubble bath and candle hour to lift your spirits.
This book is fun, short, sweet, and of course: steamy. If you haven't read the previous four books, you should for better understanding of the secondary characters. It's not necessary, but it makes for a fuller story.
Torel was a different book in this series in that both of the characters not only were not looking for romance, they actively fought it. It was definitely a different feel, but a lot of fun. I enjoyed both Haley and Torel even with their stubborn bullheadedness. I certainly wouldn't mind a Torel. ;)
