I received this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
This book is like James Bond meets Cinderella! :D
Where James is Ryan and Anya is Cinderella as in she's royal blood! She's not a soft Cinderella either. She's brave, smart and resourceful. She's almost foolishly brave sometimes. And that's one of the reasons for four stars. She acts first and thinks after and during some scenes in the story that was not stupid, because it was believable, but annoying. I would have preffered her to be a little bit more afraid of the consequences of her actions and thus more cautious. But I still liked her. She's not spoilt socialite, but a really nice person, even if naive.
Ryan was nice too, but I just couldn't buy that he strated acting like a love-sick fool when he was described as an extremly crafty super-agent. During the story he himself muses about this, so it made this credible, but still annoying, like Anya's hot-head actions.
The story was interesting and fast paced. Very spies-R-us. Some time it was a little over the top, but still very enjoyable.
Love, love, love this series. Sometimes when I love a series so much it is hard to write a review for just one of the books because the characters all blend together for me in one long story. The Super Agent series is loosely linked together based on characters and their jobs, but all the stories are very different and Misty writes in a way that you can read them independently and still enjoy them. I love the characters, the dialogue, the action and romance. There are no wasted words on the pages, so you need to pay attention to them all. I have a thing about the CIA and FBI and really enjoy these types of stories.
The Blood Code is engaging from the beginning and I didn't want to put it down until the last page when all was tied together for a fantastic ending. In this story, we watch Ryan try to rescue Anya and the world from a Hitler-wannabe, Russian President Ivanov. What starts out as training young CIA field operatives and a little asset recruiting turns into stopping a potential nuclear war. In The Blood Code things go wrong. Ryan isn't always able to save Anya and things get messy. Misty is great at writing suspense because with her stories you never really know what is going to come next.
The Kremlin Palace sounds like such a neat place (when President Ivanov isn't in it of course). I felt like I was actually there based on the descriptions in the book. I had no problem visualizing what was happening in the book. From the clothes to the food to the secret passageways.
The characters of both Ryan and Anya were well written. Anya was not a "princess" in the typical sense. She was tough as nails (one of the things Ryan loves about her) and wants no one waiting on her. She was raised to be very independent. However, now, her grandmother has been kidnapped, she has to play the part of the Russian Princess that she doesn't want to be, she is held hostage by Ivanov, and she has to keep her feelings for Ryan to herself to protect them all. She is definitely spy material with the risks she takes and I was worried she was going to be caught more times than she actually did. My heart was always beating fast when she was on the move!
Ryan has his own issues to deal with and it was nice seeing him out of sorts and risking his job and the life that he knows for Anya. He gets himself into more trouble than I would have expected from him based on his character in other books. We saw him a lot in Operation Sheba helping out Conrad but he seemed more in control then. Probably because he didn't have a fascinating princess distracting him at the time.
The romance in this book is light. There aren't any scorching hot love scenes but the sweet love scene in this one is so appropriate for the story with Anya and Ryan. The romance is sprinkled throughout the story and a little heavier on the suspense. I think it is a great balance to this specific story and it is also a little more believable. If you are looking for a solid, engaging romantic suspense book that is part of a series I would personally love to see made into a movie, I highly recommend you try The Blood Code.
Wow, another one to add to my “lose sleep over” list! If you can’t handle nail biting suspense and driving yourself nuts by not being able to put it down and do normal things like house work (bleh) then you can’t handle this book. So worth the dirty house I acquired while reading. Kids need to eat? Throw some cookies in their direction and keep reading! I will neither confirm nor deny I did that. This book will hold your attention like a train wreck unfolding before your eyes. The author throws out the teaser hints to secrets that keep you hanging on just to know why it’s all happening. The action keeps up but not overwhelmingly where you can’t keep it all straight. I felt I WAS Anya, grossed out by the Russian President’s advances! You can’t help but fall in love with Ryan, an honest and loyal heartthrob. Aren’t spies always intriguing and handsome? Don’t take my word for it – read the book and get hooked yourself! HIGHLY recommended. No really, I dare you to read it and NOT get involved. Just don’t blame your undone housework and hungry kids on me. Received this book for an honest review.
Edgy, intense, and awesome! Operation: Lost Princess, book four in Misty Evan's Super Agent Romantic Suspense Romantic series, has everything a reader expects in a romantic suspense and brings it with style. Ryan and Anya will win your heart, as will the people who support them! The journey is tough and terrifying, but our super agent and the Russian princess attack it with attitude and guts, prepared to travel through any danger to protect country, family, and each other. Acting behind a calm facade, the two are multidimensional; we are allowed to see and feel the terror, the caring, the love and even the lust as well as the courage that keeps them going in the face of an adversary who is ready to unleash nuclear weapons and genetic manipulation to become the unquestioned leader of a world power.
I have to start off saying that nothing makes me happier or gets me more involved in a book than a really tough, strong, believable, female main character. And Anya Romanov Radzoya is absolutely that person. She doesn’t wait around for someone to save her. She fights back and fights hard for her loved ones. I love Anya and I felt her fear every time she put herself in a risky situation.
The entire story is based around Anya’s lineage and her Russian past that even she doesn’t necessarily know all the details too. There is mystery, action, and of course steamy romance. It’s a fun, summer read. I read it at the beach, which was probably a good place since the obvious redness in my cheeks from the intense heat of the book could be blamed on the scorching sun.
President Ivanov is a great villain. He absolutely oozes evil and corruption. From his actions to the plans in his head, there is nothing redeemable about this character. Which makes it all the more fun to root for him to fail miserably. The depths that one man will go to for absolute power is terrifying.
Then there’s Ryan. He’s that guy. He’s gorgeous, funny, a bit insecure at times, and a secret agent. How can you not fall in love with him? His admiration for Anya is endearing and when he realizes how it’s turned into love, you will long for them to be together. And when they get together? Well, let’s just say fireworks aren’t anywhere near what goes off between them.
There are plenty of wonderful secondary characters in the book from Solomon to Del and my favorite, Naomi. I actually found myself wishing I knew even more about them. There’s history between some of them that I am dying to uncover.
The Blood Code is an exciting adventure with plenty of secrets along the way. Just when you have it all figured out another twist will keep you guessing about the final end game, exactly what a spy story should do. The ending is great and hopefully we will see bits of Anya and Ryan again.
I confess, I went through a stage of reading quite a lot of romance, but it’s been a while since I last sank my teeth into a good one. When I saw the opportunity to read and review The Blood Code, part of Misty Evans’ Super Agent Novel Series, I jumped in, even though I am new to this process.
I was not disappointed by my return to the genre. The Blood Code kept me engaged through all 340 pages. There is believable tension and attraction between Ryan and Anya, and I appreciated that Anya was as brilliant and courageous as Ryan (go girl power!). There was an element of Anya cast as the “damsel in distress,” but Misty Evans does a nice job of showing how Anya can more than hold her own in difficult situations.
When Ryan and Anya finally hook up (come on, this isn’t a real spoiler--it’s a Romance, for crying out loud!), the love scene is spicy and titillating, without overwhelming or distracting from the rest of the plot. Misty Evans is clearly comfortable in this genre.
I felt the book dragged a bit around the middle, where I started to feel a little claustrophobic being stuck in the Kremlin along with the key characters. I realize that’s part of the point--they’re feeling stuck, too--but I began to feel eager for more action other than the tension between Ryan and Anya and President Ivanov, a nutjob Hitleresque leader with visions of world domination. But even this criticism I had to think about after I had finished reading the book.
I haven’t read the other books in this series, but I got a kick out of learning more about U.S. and Russian intelligence agencies and Russian architecture, so I’ll likely try some of the others.
Overall, this is a very satisfying, well-paced romance, and I recommend it to anyone who dreams of meeting a man---at least in books--who likes his martinis “shaken, not stirred.”
Disclosure: The publisher provided me a review copy of this book, but this is an unbiased review.
I received a copy of this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review! Thank you, Entangled Publishing!
This book is part of a series, but can be read standalone, which is a good thing as I have never read any other books in this series. After reading this one, I certainly will be on the lookout for the others!
This is a romantic suspense novel, set in Russia. Anya and her grandmother emigrated to the United States shortly after the death of Anya's parents. When her grandmother is kidnapped and goes missing, Anya, after receiving a message, flies to Moscow. The book starts off with a car chase and Anya spilling out of the car and into the arms of Ryan Smith, super agent!
The villain, Ivanov, desires to rule Russia and is obsessed with bloodlines. His and Anya, one of the last descendants of the Romanovs. (Was anyone else envisioning little Bartok the white bat from Anastasia commenting while reading this? OK, nevermind. :) ) So not only does he want to wipe the United States and other superpowers off the face of the planet, but he wants to be a new kind of Hitler, too, and populate the world with super Russian babies made between him and Anya. Iew. He was gross and gave the icky creepy vibes. What a great villain!
Anya is what I love in a heroine/lead female protag: brave, smart, witty, and doesn't just faint in the face of danger and expect a man (Ryan) to clean it up for her. I like her little klepto skills in an attempt to do spywork for Ryan and I admired her love and dedication to her grandmother. Not many would be brave enough or love someone more than themselves enough to persevere.
Ryan is delicious - I like how discombobulated he is by Anya and the fact that she makes his head swim.
The Blood Code is based around Anya Romanov Radzoya's lineage. She is one of three remaining Russian princesses. However, Anya is anything but your typical princess. She prefers jeans to ball gowns and sweaters to tiaras. Anya is an incredibly spunky character. She's very set in her ways and doesn't let anyone tell her what to do.
Anya's grandmother is taken prisoner by the Russian President Ivanov. Ivanov demands Anyas presence in Russia at the nuclear arms summit. You soon learn that Ivanov has insane ideas of returning Russia to its former "glory" by using his and Anya's "pure" bloodlines. Ivanov is the perfect bad guy. He's insanely creepy and gives you the willys just imagining him.
Enter the hero of the story, Ryan Smith. After meeting Anya while she's running from the police, Ryan agrees to help Anya find evidence against Ivanov. Under the guise of a pencil pusher for the President of the US, Ryan infiltrates the nuclear arms summit and lends his expertise to Anya's predicament. Ryan is a strong character. He and Anya butt heads a lot.
Having read the previous books in this series, Misty Evans continues to deliver the fun, fast action and highly-entertaining I have come to expect from her books. Reading Ryan's story was great fun and I already know whose stories I would like to read next.
In return for an honest review I received an ARC from the publisher.
Anya Romanov Radzoya is forced to return to the country of her birth when her grandmother is kidnapped. She is now held captive by President Ivanov, a power hungry madman. Taking a dangerous risk she is able to escape her guards and make contact with Ryan Smith, a top-notch CIA operative. He agrees to help her rescue her "grams" and save the world. Now the game of cat and mouse begins in earnest. The danger brings Anya and Ryan closer and they become lovers. With weapons of mass destruction aimed at the United States and Britain, the Russian President seems to hold all the cards, but he hadn't counted on a determined and resourceful Princess to put his plan in danger. Within the Grand Kremlin Palace many secrets are revealed that will change the future of Anya and Smitty. Misty Evans has written a tale filled with intrigue, danger and romance. Anya is a memorable heroine who is willing to put her life on the line for those she loves. She and Ryan are a perfect match. Who wouldn't love a strong, honorable man who treats his love with caring and tenderness. This is a compelling story that contains many surprises. A perfect summer escape.
I received a copy of this book from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.
When I first started reading this book, I was worried that it would be hard to follow since it was part of a series. I am happy to say that I was able to enjoy this book without having read the others. I am sure the characters in the book are from the previous books, but the story wasn't lost due to the fact that I haven't read the previous stories (but I have loved the book so much that I plan to start from the beginning!) The story deals with a CIA operative who has to trust the word of a woman who basically "falls into his lap" and tells him that she has information of national security. This woman turns out to be a beautiful Russian princess, Anya, who has gone through a lot of tragedy and is trying to find the truth and her family. She feels like she has no one to turn to except this CIA agent, Ryan. They have to learn to trust each other in order to survive their time in the Kremlin Palace. The story built up suspense from the time you start the story. The love in this story was sincere. And it was only after they gained each other's trust. It made me love the story and want to keep reading it.
The very best in romantic suspense. Although this is part of a series it can be read stand-alone. Non-stop action and intrigue. I was bowled over by the mystery and loved the chemistry between Ryan and Anya. Twists and turns, good guys and bad, a love story in a foreign land what more could you ask for? Anya is a geneticist who was born in Russia. She and her Grandmother fled to the USA when Anya's parents died. Now her Grandmother has been kidnapped by the Russians and Russian President Ivanov is blackmails Anya into returning to Moscow to be his future wife in exchange for her grandmother’s life. Ryan works for the CIA. Ryan is in Russia trying to turn an asset in Ivanov's cabinet. Anya turns to Ryan in hopes that he can help her find her Grandmother and free them from Ivanov's machinations. Ryan is CIA and doesn't trust anyone lightly but his gut and his heart are telling him he needs Anya. Can he rescue the girl from the bad guy and maybe save the world? Of course he can he is a Super Agent.
I love it! Secret CIA spies and Russian princesses!?! Feisty and capable Russian Princess! I read this book before I realized it was fourth in a series. I don't think it took anything away from this story not having read the first three. I believe they were each about different characters within a central group of people.
Anya is a Russian Princess with a problem and Ryan Smith is the CIA operative she finds to help her rescue her kidnapped Grandmother.
I enjoyed the fact that she was not completely helpless, that she had self-defense skills, and super-secret-spy skills even though she is a scientist by trade. Ryan also liked these traits very much.
A great story that made me miss one of my favorite TV shows (ALIAS) just a little less. Not so heavy on the detailed steamy scenes, but still gives good butterflies.
I received a copy of The Blood Code by Misty Evans from the publisher for an unbiased review
The Blood Code by Misty Evans can best be described as a nail-biting, spine-tingling, edge of your seat thriller. The book is just chilling. I just couldn’t fathom how Ivanov would be stopped or how Anya would get out of the dreadful situation of being held captive before it was too late. Anya is so feisty and at times it puts her in further danger. Oh and President Ivanov is so creepy, I just cringe when I think about his character. He is so unstable that I couldn’t predict what he would do next.
I liked Anya’s strong will. She added excitement to the story. She was a relentless character that wouldn’t let anything stop her and had no mercy on her enemies. Read More
This book was by far one of the best romantic suspense novels I have read. Evans created a strong, likable heroine in Anya. She stood up for herself and though afraid at times, chose not to show it. Her hero, Ryan, was just about everything you would want in a hero...strong, secure, sensitive and of course the most important 's' SEXY!!!! Although fourth in the series (and I have not read the first three but now I am going to) this book stands alone as well. The story and characters were very believable and Evans does an excellent job in telling the story.
I highly recommend this book and the series! Fast paced, international intrigue, political corruption, traitorous agents, sizzling hot romance....this series has it all.
I love everything Misty has written this book was just as awesome as everything else loads of action and adventure in and out of the bedroom and even in a Russian palace with a princess lol lots of lies, betrayal and nuclear codes a wonderful adventure I didn't want to end
Okay 4 stars for all the brilliant stuff and hard work and research that the writer must've done about nuclear and AI and spies etc that my small brain thinks impressive. But for the romance it's a solid 3 at most. For the characters 3 too. I was a bored when I reached some parts but it's an okay read. The ending was cute. Good job author!
This book was given to me as an advanced review copy, from Jaime Arnold (Senior Publicist of Entangled Publishing, LCC)
This is my first suspense book with military influence, so bare with me on reviewing this book it also was influence with history of the Grand Duchess Anastasia.
Review
Having to filled in for his boss due to sickness was not what Ryan Smith had intended on doing, but when his computer tech guy say that someone was heading to their secure location . . . it was time to brace for intruders. Waiting for the intruder traveling by car, it's turns out to be a woman who carries a very important ICBM key and information about the President of Russia.
Anya Radzoya, a geneticist with a painful past, a royal bloodline connection, has to risk everything to find her grandmother after she'd disappeared and Anya knows who did it. However making deals with the president of Russia was out of the question, his quest for super Russians, power, and control of the most powerful weapons of Russian, with Anya by his side. Anya has to play princess/spy while she search for her grandmother's location but she also has to deal with Ryan Smith the spy that she must learn to trust.
Ryan and Anya must work together to find the evidence although Anya already seen some of President Ivanov's plans up close, she need more . . . they need more to call for actions. The Key to unlocking Russia's greatest weapons lies within Anya but just how far will Ryan and Anya's grandmother go to protect Anya? When it is her DNA that is the key element to unlocking the Missiles and the enemy already has the code?
I give this 3 Cat's Tails Up, I like the visualization of Russia that was explained and some of the science/medical aspect but having the Grand Duchess concept made the story a little bleh and confusing to me.
Fifteen years ago, Anya Radzoya fled Russia with her grandmother after the suspicious deaths of her parents, but she can’t escape the royal genes that make her one of Russia’s last living princesses. When President Ivanov blackmails her into returning to Moscow in exchange for her grandmother’s life, Anya discovers he’s planning to unleash a nuclear war. With no one else to turn to, she joins forces with CIA operative Ryan Smith.
Undercover at the nuclear summit, Ryan recruits Anya to find proof Ivanov is resurrecting the Cold War, but he suspects his new asset is a double agent. Anya is determined to rescue her grandmother with or without his help, however, and Ryan finds himself falling for the beautiful princess before he even trusts her.
Trapped inside the Kremlin with a cunning and ruthless opponent, the two must risk their lives and their hearts to save Anya’s grandmother as well as millions of innocent people.
My Thoughts:
As a child/teenager during the bulk of the “cold war”, this novel really hit a nerve for me. I absolutely loved the kick-butt heroine, Anya Radzoya, and the equally adept, and hunky hero, Ryan Smith. Their growing attraction crept up on me, culminating in a very satisfying love scene close to the end of the book. The story progression of the suspense/intrigue is very well paced with just enough doubt in the truth to keep you reading. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good spy story with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
You might want to put your feet up, relax with a martini, shaken not stirred, and rest easy knowing you’re well protected!
Blood Code by USA Today bestselling author Misty Evans definitely fits the requirements for a romantic suspense. The heroine is a Russian princess who has lived in the United States from childhood. Suffering from a severe blood clotting disorder, she is now a geneticist focused on finding a cure. But when her grandmother is kidnapped by the crazed Russian premier, she will do anything to save her, including seeking help from head of the CIA in Europe who happens to be in Russia on a training mission. The hero is an ace at his job, but when the beautiful princess's life is in jeopardy, he acts rashly.
Evans has created a fantastic story that probably has little basis in reality. Any leader who acted as insanely and misused his authority as the Russian premier in this story does would probably not stay in power long. Nevertheless, the novel is still full of thrills and chills, and the growing love between the two main characters, who are willing to sacrifice themselves to save each other, leads to a satisfactory happy ending - which you will have to read the book to find out.
It wasn't a bad read, but it wasn't a great read either. IMHO, there just wasn't any chemistry between Ryan and Anya. There really wasn't much of a mystery to it either. It was predictable, and honestly, boring
There are some books that you just can't put down, and some books that sit there waiting for you to finish them. This book was the latter for me. It wasn't good. It wasn't bad. It just was. Let me put it this way - I typically read a book like this in a day or two (5 tops), but this book took me over a month to get through it. I think that pretty much says it all.
This ENTIRE merit is beyond excellent !! If you love spy and love stories, buy the ENTIRE series before you start reading. Because you will not be able to stop u til you've read the ENTIRE SERIES !
