Falling out of a window didn't hurt as much as falling for her.
Tove Savage.
When the most beautiful girl in the world treats you like her dirty little secret, you're reminded that beasts are meant to live in the dark.
Tove used me to get back at her boyfriend, breaking something inside that left a scar far deeper and uglier than the one marring my face.
Three years later Tove arrives at my hospital broken and without her memories. So, what am I meant to do? Try to forget how much I love her or exact my revenge?
BEAST is a twisted Beauty and the Beast retelling.
J.A Wynters hails from Australia where she lives with her three kids, two fish and one feline companion. She lives on coffee and vodka and loves reading and roller derby.
When she's not keeping her small army alive she loves writing and conjuring new worlds from her imagination.
After Adrian's mother death, he and his father moves to a new house. From his window he sees his beautiful neighbour Tore. Then, a terrible accident change his life forever... They became friends, but Adrian's life it ain't easy. Adrian character is great and it was so much potential (wasted) but I can only give a 3,7 stars. I was lost a bit in the story, Tore was a true b*tch. Some things didn't made sense. But is still a sweet story. A retelling of Beauty and the Beasty. For those who love retellings, I think you're going to like. It's different, and here Wynters uses her imagination really well. I'm a bit suspicious, since Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite fairy tales.
Beast by J.A. Wynters is a powerfully dark story of longing, betrayal, and love. Wynters hit it out of the park with this one. An intense story of pain and betrayal, Wynters gives her characters so many layers that make them touchable and realistic. Adrian is the young teenage boy who is permanently scarred in an accident. Tove Savage is the girl next door who he is in love with. I think Wynters does a fabulous job of depicting the difficult teenage years, especially for someone who is different like Adrian. His relationship with Tove is complicated and ruled by the opinion of others. “Like a beast. How could I have got it so wrong? So twisted? How did I never see that she was always the monster?” There are a few twists and turns that I didn’t expect. There are also a number of very steamy sex scenes. Overall, a great book and though intense it does have a feel-good ending. I was given a copy of this book.
Holy hunk. Can I take a bit of Adrian to go? Obviously, the cover and blurb drew me in because I'm a major Beauty & the Beast freak. Adrian didn't disappoint. He's a flawed hero with a heart of gold, and he's the shining star of the book. There are also some side characters that tickled my fancy.
I love J.A's writing style and adore her descriptors. I could wrap myself up in her words and use them as a blanket without issue.
My biggest issue came with the heroine, Tove. She, too, is flawed, though I found her flaws to be far uglier than any literal blemish. We spend a good portion of the book seeing these, and by the end, I felt little to no redemption. She is the true beast in the story, and I rooted for anyone but her, which is a strange place to be in when reading a romance. I feel like Adrian was blinded by her beauty and ignored a serious lack of character and heart.
I am truly sorry that I could not love this book because the male lead would have been so worth it - he is an innocent victim in this emotional mess.
Have you ever read a book where you had the feeling that even though the leading characters might get their HEA - they would have been better off if they had never met?
Well - I found one just now ... No matter how much I wanted - because let's be honest everybody loves a good "beauty and the Beast" plot - I could not bring myself to even like the female lead one tiny bit.
Instead, I resented her more with every chapter I read and there was nothing there that could redeem her in my eyes. She was as shallow as any female queen bee antagonist in other books usually is.
No - stop - she was even worse - and probably according to my own rules I should rate this book with 5 stars because it made me feel - ANGER - but that was not the plan when I came up with those rules...
The story kept my interest the entire time. The writing is good. But the story has a major flaw.
Spoiler Alert. In the beginning, he is bullied in school. The girl who claims to be his "best friend" actually participates in it because of peer pressure. She uses him when she needs comforting and he becomes her dirty little secret. She denies to everyone that they have a physical relationship. In fact, she makes fun of him in front of their peers.
So, I'm expecting her to redeem herself before the book ends. But alas, NO.
Years later they meet again, he nurses her back to health and he is basically the best human being to ever walk the Earth aside from Our Lord.
Well, she continues to act like a spoiled teenager. He ends up apologizing to her. You read that right. He apologises to her (?!?) I nearly pulled my hair at this point in the book.
Girl, you don't deserve him. Boy, we need to have a conversation about your self-esteem issues. I kept reading the book hoping she would grow up. But once a rotten apple, always a rotten apple. He would be better off alone.

Beast by J A Wynters I don’t care for fairytale retells but I have to admit I really enjoyed this one. You could almost say that this is a book about Karma and in a way it is and isn’t. The old saying “ love will find a way “ applies here. Long time friends growing up through heartache and sad times become estranged over some pretty bad/sad circumstances. They argue, she calls him a beast ! He loves her, she loves him, he leaves for 5 years and returns raring for revenge. She has an accident , will she recover ? Will he still love her ? Is she strong enough to deal with what life has felt her? We will see if the beast can save the beauty after beauty saved the beast. The story of Adrian and Tove, you want be able to put it down. ....pat....
Hmmm well this story spans from Tove and Adrian's childhood years to their early 20s. It begins with Adrian moving into a new house with his father and meeting his evil beautiful Angel right before he has a accident that disfigures him and hurts his already fragile heart. Broody heart of gold boy here. Now Tove she I honestly pretty much hated most of this story she was beautiful shallow and incredibly vain and basically a doormat who did what people wanted her to, even if it's not where her heart lay. Namely Tray, the douche King. Tove makes terrible mistakes and years later Adrian and Tove are reunited through a tragic accident in which Tove loses all memory and is very badly hurt. Will Adrian take the revenge he feels he needs to, to fix his broken and battered soul or will he fall in love with Tove all over again?
I give this story 3 1/2 stars I loved Adrian the story was very sweet but I cannot stand wishy washy heroines that are vain and shallow I understand it's a learning experience and by the end I did grow to feel and like Tove but did I feel that she honestly paid enough for her future.. That I will keep to myself. But the writing was grabbing I didn't want to put the story down and it definitely kept my interest and I would most definitely read more by this author.

An interesting spin on Beauty and the Beast fairytale where who is the "beast" changes within the story.
On the day that 10-year-old Adrian moves in next door to 10-year-old Tove, he falls through his bedroom window trying to open it to talk to her. The fall and glass leave his disfigured and the target for school bullies. Tove befriends Adrian but as high school comes around, her friendship is tempered by the want to fit in. The tables are turned when Tove is in a car accident and ends up at the mercy of her beast, Adrian.
I had to reach back (yup-far) to remember what high school was like and the pressures that come from peers to not be the outcast to relate to Tove. It is in this way that Wynters makes the reader re-evaluate who is the beast in her story. Tove sacrifices her friendship and the love of the boy who would walk through flames for her, making her cruel yet very teenaged human. Adrian, the scarred and damaged boy-to-man, who is the supposed beast, showcases what true humanity is. His outward appearance conceals a heart that is bigger than all those around him. He perserveres and succeeds despite what could hold him back.
Well written with fully developed characters, Beast is a great take on the tale with a modern approach.
Who is Beauty? Who is the Beast? A broken man. A broken woman. A painful and unforgiving past...and a love that knows no bounds.
Adrian and Tove first see each other during a freakish and horrible accident and their future is sealed with a connection that surpasses time. When she hurts him for the last time, he vows to rip her heart apart and leave it to bleed. But, she needs his help now and his heart is not cooperating.
I adore Adrian and his scarred and vulnerable state truly believing he is the beauty in this story. As for Tove, she is a Beast, among other names, with a capital B, who is positively ugly inside and out. She doesn't deserve Adrian's kindness and devotion because I don't believe she is capable of it herself.
With that being said, this is a dark and emotional romance that rips out your heart and not so gently places it back for a HEA. It's a sign of a good writer who can invoke so much hatred and love for characters and Ms. Wynters does that with Beast. Whether you believe there should have been a HEA or not, it's an interesting take on the fairy tale.
Thank you to Ms. Wynters for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
I had the pleasure of reading an early copy of Beast, a retelling of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast.
The author has done it again with this fresh reimagining of a beloved favourite tale.
Adrian and Tove have a complicated relationship going back to when they were teenagers living next door to each other. The story is not a predictable progression and as the reader gets to know the characters, motivations become clearer.
When Tove falls into Adrian’s lap, he sees it as a sign. The author keeps the suspense up at a leisurely pace, one that makes you want, no need, to find out what happens next.
I read it in one setting, just having to know how it ended and boy did it end with a surprise you won’t see coning. I highly recommend Beast as a great read, one you’ll devour just as a Beast should.
As soon as I saw the cover and knew this was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast I had to read it. Scarred men are my weakness.
I absolutely adored Adrian as a young child and as an adult. My heart broke for him his pain was raw, I felt his anguish and suffering. I couldn't help but admire his resilience. His love for Tove felt pure and genuine, even when he hated her.
I really wish I could've liked Tove more but I just couldn't. I felt she was to easily manipulated and I wanted to shake her.
I kinda hated her even when I felt bad for her situation. I just didn't feel like she really deserved Adrian. She did grow on me slightly towards the end of the story and redeem herself somewhat.
I enjoyed the story overall and I loved the ending, it was sweet and romantic. It took them a long time to get there so maybe it was meant to be, and the best things do come to those who wait.
J.A. Wynters has a realistic retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It’s about as real as it can get in my opinion. It’s a story about two characters Tove and Adrian who both are beautiful messy. One is messed up on the outside and one in the inside. They both have to wade through the waters in their insecurities, peer pressure, and situations that life has dealt them. I really loved this story because both characters had their faults. It’s was fast read, it was not a bed of roses, but so worth every word. If you love retellings of fairytales with a realistic spin and looking for a true love story to read on Valentines Day I highly recommend this one for you.
I waffled on giving this a four star, but in the end I gave it the full five because by the half way mark I couldn't put it down. I've always been a sucker for a romance with an imperfect male character and this delivered; Adrien was perfect. I also love how Tove was imperfect too, I mean honestly I wanted to smack that girl a few times. The beginning took me a bit to get into, as the characters were younger at first, but it was all necessary to the story. The build up I enjoyed slightly less was absolutely integral to the whole. Overall a very enjoyable story that I would absolutely recommend. This is my first by this author but would make me want to try more of her work.
While reading this book, I fell in love with Adrian. He will give you all the feels! I cried, laughed, and had every emotion in between. It's a shorter read but be ready for your heart to break for Adrian! He will capture you up in his web and not let you go!
Tove is a character like an I have never read before. You want to love and hate her at the same time! I know I did! She will keep you on your toes and have you asking "why, why, why?"
It does have a HEA but is a roller coaster to get there! Don't be afraid to hop on and take the risk! You won't regret it!
I loved this book so much, for so many reasons. Wynters paints her characters with a brush of reality and forces us to see them for their ugliness. The beast in this book is not who you think, and in some ways it is, perhaps all her characters are marred by some internal or external scarring. This book has so many layers and her characters portray realistic traits that we can all relate to, desperation, obsession, betrayal, living life through everyone else's mirror, worrying about judgement. So much raw emotion so much hunger and desperation so much beauty entwined in ugliness. Not what I expected but could not put this book down for a second.
Beast is inspired by Beauty and the Beast in a modern setting that spans years. While the magic is absent the real life situations have us following our mains Adrian and Tove from childhood and into adulthood and the tragedies that plague them. Adrian is more the wounded hero and Tove the vain love interest who has to learn to stand up for herself and be her own person. It was an interesting read but the characters were irksome at times.
Second book I’ve read of this authors and once again I was beyond pleasantly surprised! A fantastic twist on beauty and the beast! I was sad the book ended where it did. I was throughly enjoying this store line and see what came next for them all! Especially if the Karma bus truly caught up to Tray!
Broken, That is all I can put into words without giving away everything I want to say about this book!! JA Wynters did it again with her Amazing ability to write an amazing story, I was torn and pulled from the beginning, my feelings were ripped away in every sense as she always does!!! A great read, with some mental mind wonders and torn up hearts in between!!! I loved it!
I couldn’t get over my anger at the female lead. I love Beauty and the Beast, and I understand the fun idea of the twist, but I could not find a way for the female lead to redeem herself. Forgiveness is one thing, but I wanted so much more for the male lead.
Stunning, stark and poetic. from the very first words, Wynters pulls you into Adrian's world and she plays music with your soul strumming at your shattered heartstrings. This story brings out all the emotions - raw, captivating and heartfelt - All the stars - my new fav for 2020!
The emotional journey this story takes you to is unbelievable. Looks not being perfect is what this story is about . You can feel the cruelty that kids in high school treat other with . You can feel the peer pressure and the writing broke my heart .
I couldn't get past my dislike for the heroine so I didn't get passed 35%. The real Beast in my opinion is Tove, the heroine. The beauty in Adrian is overshadowed by his scarred exterior. I have never disliked a heroine as much as this one.
I love finding new authors that can draw you into the story. This story definitely pulled on my heartstrings. I also love a new twist on an old tale. This was definitely that. I was absorbed within moments and couldn’t wait to see what happened.
I have literally nothing bad to say about this book. I've put off doing this review so I could give a more comprehensive opinion but still all I can think to say is I love it, it sucked me in from the beginning and I was swept away. I couldn't put it down.
I loved Adrian, great character but Tove was weak as piss. I truly hoped that Adrian finds a better lady to love and Tove is just a bad experience from his youth that he needs and will get over.
What can I say about this book? It blew me away, and kept me reading. I couldn't stop once I'd started. Page after page, I was pulled into Adrian and Tove's story. I was lost in it. My heart broken for them both. Adrian, the broken boy. Cast aside and lost. And then Tove, oh, my sweet Tove. Caught in a sea of appearances and peer pressure, just as broken as the boy she knew.
This isn't your typical romance. There's love, and hate, and more hate. But oh, it's so sweet when it all comes together.
If you're looking for a book that will suck you in and keep you reading, then look no farther. You've found it.
4.5 Stars for a story that is both haunting and sweet. I went into reading this with caution--I am not big into retellings because let's be honest, nothing can live up to childhood memories of a singing teapot!--but I was pleasantly surprised! Or more like tearfully, LOL, as this story wrenched at my heartstrings.
This is less a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and more a story about a man who sees himself as a beast after an accident and must overcome that. We see his growth throughout his life as he loves and loses a beautiful but ultimately shallow girl then comes across that girl again as an adult as she faces the same trials he did. It's dark yet sweet, and a wonderful read for those days when you want something that is both romantic and heart jerking.
I'm sorry but did a bully write this? Tove is awful, she deserved what she got and never had to answer for her own shitty behavior. Adrian deserved better. Ugh what a terrible story. It didn't even deserve one star or a half.
