War has come to the Land of Yet and though the wolf has awakened within her, Ameenah Yemini has just begun to understand the legacy behind its magic.
Without the wisdom to wield it, she knows she is no match for the treachery of the Hir, whose lust for absolute power threatens everything she holds dear.
Her only chance – Yet’s only hope – is for its people to band together and fight.
But the Hir’s iron grip reaches deeper than they ever realized and the land that once stood together is more divided than ever. While Ameenah travels to the isolated Province of Harat in search of allies and the remnants of the mythical Amasiti, the man she loves must take a different road, each uncovering terrible secrets, centuries in the making that could unravel their rebellion before it has time to take root.
In a desperate race to rally a force strong enough to defeat the Hir, Ameenah's quest plunges her into the depths of a cursed land to recover what remains of an age-old promise—but the cost of saving her people just might be her life.
The final chapter of The Wolf Queen adventure is here.
My name is Cerece Rennie Murphy, but, among my 5 siblings, I am known and teased by my superhero name, Wonder Worry, (and yes, I am a little worried about your reaction to what I just said). While in my youth, I used my superpower to whip minor setbacks into epic tragedies in 60 seconds flat, I no longer have the time to hone the skills I once possessed, which were handed down to me VERY CAREFULLY by my mother and her mother before.
Instead of spending my days imagining worst case scenarios, I am now on the front lines of true disaster prevention – treading the fine line between boo-boos and permanent brain damage, fighting crimes of curiosity, omission, absent-mindedness and sleep deprivation. I carry others down the winding, bumpy road of youth that starts out at the nexus of unique and brilliant but intersects with narcissistic serial killer at some distant point I hope fervently to avoid. As you might have guessed, I am a wife and mother of 2 small children. Luckily, my family lights up the sky so I never stumble too hard or lose my way.
I would lament the luxury of needless worry, but alas, I don’t have the energy. As I write this, I am losing a battle fought between my trusty sponge and a hardened glob of half-eaten cheese that traveled from the kitchen to the living room rug in the palm of a very small, but mischievous hand. Its stronghold on the fibers suggests occupancy of at least 2 days, but I’ll never know for sure. Rather than despair, I’ve chosen to retreat to my keyboard, noting that I have won the war - most of the rug is un-cheesed.
Before I worried. Now, I write.
I look forward to slowly, quietly, in my own shy way, becoming a part of this community. If you would like to get to know me and my work a bit better, you can visit my website at www.cerecerenniemurphy.com
I just finished this breathtaking, dazzling high-fantasy sequel. Wow! Highly recommend this spectacular novel, especially for fans of authors like Robin Hobb, Tamora Pierce and Tomi Adeyemi. Wolf-shifter Ameenah continues her struggles against the encroaching evil of the Hir's oppressive regime and must bring together a number of fantastical peoples as allies - such as (my favorite) the Sri (picture carnivorous Elf/centaur hybrids with dramatic horns) and the Mehireti (Author Murphy's brilliant, fresh take on mermaid warriors). The settings are beautifully immersive and the names of both the people and the places are some of the best I've encountered. This is a book of substantial depth as we follow Ameenah's symbolic journey towards finding her power by joining with the transformative magic of something bigger than herself. Thrilling, complex and deeply inspiring. (With truly chilling evil forces with twisted magic that preys on children). Highly recommended. #TeamSri
First of all, the prologue of The Wolf Queen Book II is beautiful and intense. It gives an intriguing explanation for Ameenah's connection to the wolves. And it shows the villainous roots of the Hir, completely solidifying how terrible and dangerous he is.
In this book Ameenah and her friends must travel to the different provinces of Yet to convince the leaders to work together against the threat of the Hir. There is a sort of "side quest" feel to some of their adventures, as new mysteries, threats, and even allies are discovered along the way. I love that Nasir and his sister Kiva must go to one province while Ameenah, Opa, and T'ebak must go another. We get to follow both stories, which are tied together by their common goals but also the ever-present love of Ameenah and Nasir, who must now travel apart. They both go through their own trials, and it was very satisfying to see them finally meet again and work together in the final battle.
It was nice to see gentle Siama again in this book, and after expecting the return of Oorala as well, I was not disappointed! We learned more about Opa, one of my favorite characters from the first book. Ameenah is certainly the star of the Wolf Queen duology, but the author did a wonderful job of creating many memorable characters to round out the story. Highly recommended!
The beautiful writing, elaborate story lines that were also elegantly resolved, the magical protagonist who graciously forms alliances despite her pain and solitary nature, the fantasy...this is a top notch author and book. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this second book of the Wolf Queen duology.
I wanted to like this book, but the amount of times I had to ask myself 'Was this edited?' completely ruined any interest I had in finishing. Might have been an issue with making it an ebook, which is disappointing. Overall, not for me. DNF at around 50%
This conclusion to this story is one I won't soon forget! I loved the journey and man this was so fabulous! Wonderful characters and an incredible story!
This was a good read. At one point it became dull but I pressed through and got back to the goodness. What a wonderful display of the power in and around women.
Love this book! Could barely put it down because I was so invested in it. So happy that there was a second book to continue reading about this world. Love a woman getting revenge!
This was brilliantly written. Just like book 1, as I picked it up, I had to keep going until it was finished. There are stories that move you and then there are the stories that stay with you forever. This book will make its mark on your soul and hold a treasured place.
From beginning to end an intricate story line was woven taking readers along as we discovered secrets, betrayals, and then into deeply satisfying triumphs!
It is the ultimate adventure story for everyone who loves fantasy and a wonderful new take on shape-shifting, and the others the world of Yet, has hidden away. With no loose ends I am very satisfied with how this all came together and I look forward to reading even more from this author
