Loved it!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: boss/employee
Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Triggers: alcoholism, past abuse

Gunner has been attracted to his PA Gia since college, but has never made a move since she's a relationship type girl and he's allergic. But everything changes when Gia becomes homeless and he offers her a place to stay. When a relationship develops, Gia needs to decide if she can accept him as the hot mess he is or if she needs to take care of herself first.

I really enjoyed this book! It had so much more depth than I was expecting based on the blurb! The grumpy, auburn haired smexy machine's life is spiraling with anger issues and too much booze. Gia is a very unassuming, quirky girl who is completely thrown off by his persistent interest and whose past abuse makes her leery. These are two struggling individuals that you really feel and root for. The chemistry between them is explosive and the long path there relationship took really amped it up. Great story with fantastic, flawed characters ❤.

**I generously received an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

This was the first book I’ve read by J.M. Stoneback. I really tend to enjoy romance novels featuring two characters who seem to despise each other, yet can’t stay away from each other, so when I read the description of the novel, I was very excited to get my hands on it.

Gia and Gunner went to college together. She worked in the library, saddled with an abusive asshole of a boyfriend, while Gunner was a few years older and would frequent the library and give her a hard time. So she didn’t have a whole lot of fond memories of Gunner when she found herself desperate enough to accept a job as his personal assistant. Gia didn’t finish college, whereas Gunner became wildly wealthy and successful.

Not only does Gia have negative memories of him from college, but Gunner is a real jerk to work for. He’s extremely exacting - in the first few pages, she recollects how he recently threw away the lunch she’d ordered him, then made her re-order it, because his macaroni was touching something else in the container. He complains about nearly everything she does or doesn’t do (which I’m sure you can imagine is pretty much everything). Plus, he’s a manwhore. Gia can’t wait to get out of there as soon as she can find another job.

Fortunately, we’re treated to a dual POV, so we also get to see Gunner’s side. Gunner reveals he’s been drinking excessively since the age of 16, had an abusive childhood, and struggles with anger problems. He sees a psychiatrist regularly, and her professional advice to him is that “he should date”. Any psychiatrist should be focusing on helping him resolve his substance abuse and anger issues before so much as suggesting he date. When Gunner reflects on his past dating experiences, he refers to one as “long legged Abigail”, another as “big titty Paige”. Charming. He believes women only want one thing - his money - and views them as little more than sex objects. In fact, he refers to Gia as the “fuck that got away”. This was a big part of where the book went wrong for me.

Yet we’re also shown how Gunner cares enough about others to keep on his elderly receptionist, who has serious mental side effects after being struck by lightning. She slurs her words, wears her clothes inside out, and can’t keep track of days, yet he won’t fire her because he knows she needs the job. This seems like a complete contradiction based on the Gunner who views women as purely materialistic, and an extension of their sexual worth. That was basically how the whole book felt - on one page Gunner was an asshole, then on the next he was a Nice Guy.

There also was a serious over abundance of metaphors in the author’s writing style. Let me give you an example, all over the course of just a few pages: “rain taps angrily on the window”, “love is a poison I don’t want to drink (one of Gunner’s thoughts, naturally)”, “Gia’s face is as beautiful as a sunset over the ocean when the sky bleeds orange”, “my heart beats wildly and freely like a horse running loose in the woods”. It was complete overkill. The best books know how to SHOW, not TELL. This made the book feel like a freshman effort to me rather than the work of an author who’s already published several books.

Another big issue I had was Gunner’s treatment of Gia. Her portrayal as someone who has been in an abusive relationship means she’s well aware of how the other person cuts you down day by day, belittling your self confidence, making you question yourself, and turning things that aren’t even your fault around on you until they BECOME your fault. She even mentions early on how her ex was a pro at gaslighting her. With that said, I’d have thought Gia would’ve had a very difficult time overlooking or overcoming that issue with Gunner, since he often did exactly that to her.

My biggest problem was, no matter how troubled Gunner’s past, no matter what type of negative experiences he’d had with women, his behavior towards women was so objectifying and disgusting I didn’t even want him to get together with Gia. In one scene, he texts a previous booty call and orders her to come to his office and suck his cock. I didn’t think Gunner deserved her. Frankly, I was sorry Gunner’s sister Alana had married the very hot Darien, one of Gunner’s partners. He seemed like a much better prospect.

I’m sorry to say that this book was a miss for me. I really liked Gia. She was strong despite everything she’d been through, and she had a level of determination I admired. I would be interested in reading Darien’s story, too. But Gunner was just a landmine of way too many issues. Plus, the contradictions made my head spin - one minute he’s ordering a blow job like it’s room service, the next he’s hugging Gia when she starts crying at work. I felt like I didn’t really know who he was. If I were to rate Gunner by a book boyfriend system, he’d be the one I dated and broke up with, then tried desperately to forget I’d ever been with.

This was a two star read for me.

I love a book with two tortured souls, Gunner and Gia’s love story is definitely worth a read.

The author was able to capture my attention from start to finish. I felt as if I was watching the story unfold instead of reading about it which I love about a good book.

I hope to read more of their story in the future.

Heartless Boss
Written by: J.M Stoneback

Gunner Underwood is a self made man, a man who demanded a lot from himself and from others. He was also hiding from himself. Hiding the kind of memories that never really leave you, that live on in your mind, that punish you for things you didn’t do and cause the stress to build up to a point that there is always that explosion that can sometimes push you to be someone you really aren’t

Gia Gallagher doesn’t want to be seen by anyone! She will never let the world see who she really is and that’s a shame; because she has worked very hard to to become who she is today. She also hates her boss Gunner and she has reason. He has a temper, he’s rude and he ghosts women he dates. Gia also knows Gunner from college and she relates Gunner to the reason she left school. (and NO, it’s not what you think.) There comes a day when Gia needs help and Gunner steps up to help out. It’s then that Gia gets to see different Gunner; a man she had not expected not to see.

Both Gunner and Gia are survivors, Gunner carries not just trauma from his childhood but and event not long ago that has him fighting PTSD. He needs help but he holds everything in, which is causing other issues in his life. Gia survived a very abusive relationship and with the support of her friend Izzy and a therapist she is managing.

Heartless Boss does have bright spots as well where they laugh and enjoy the time they spend together. But the dark can take over and when that happens that is when we readers can see these characters for who they really are.

Gunner has to admit to himself that he does need help but will he take that step? Will they ever be able to be couple or will their relationship fall apart?

This was an interesting read where ghosts continued to haunt both characters. Watching Gia’s character grow throughout the story was rewarding, while in some instances Gunner’s character becomes more broken. Can Gunner do what needs to be done to keep Gia in his life? I will say, when I finished reading Heartless Boss I was glad I had picked this up. It was a story that makes you stop and think about how much people hide from each other and how with work they can heal.

This was such a great book filled with laughs and also moments of sadness where you are not sure how the characters are going to get through.

Both Gia and Gunner have ghosts and pasts that are troubled but each of them focus on different ways of healing and dealing with the issues which can either strengthen or destroy the characters.

Gia is called "Rainbow" by Gunner due to how she dresses and I love that she really didn't care that she was different. She overcame so much and didn't take things for granted and was so appreciative when Gunner gave her a helping hand.

Gunner had made something of himself and had a very successful business, Underwood Banking, yet he was still unfulfilled and was drinking and sleeping with any woman. He had wanted Gia since college yet he was also afraid of ruining her with his own demons.

I knew things were going to heat up between Gia and Gunner and slowly you watch Gunner change into a different man when he is with Gia yet his demons were still so destructive and they began to affect their "relationship".

There were a lot of twists and turns that kept me wondering what was going to happen next and with certain characters and how they were really all connected.

I loved how Gia began to put herself first and follow her own dream and my heart broke with one of her confessions to Gunner and his reaction.

I was happy at the end when Gunner realized he needed help and when he finally told the Gia the truth of the PTSD.

The end was great and I am looking forward to more in the series!! - By Rebecca

It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, but it was sure as shit close.

“women are disposable to me, so getting to know them sent on the top of my to do list. I cease all communication with them after the last drop of my cum drips from my dick after I fuck them. The moment I let them stick around, they begin to beg for more money than a homeless person on the street”

The storyline was got awful, and I had to DNF. The author introduced characters with absolutely no background, and no information. I can’t even begin to describe how many times the MC thought or said how much he likes pussy but hates women within the first 60 pages.

Do not recommend

Momentazo!

Enticing, intriguing and an unpredictable emotional journey ahead 😍

This one had me right from the start. Gia works as an assistant to Gunner and he is a***ole with a capital A. He is totally blunt, arrogant and unapologetically sure about himself add to it his wealth and status and you get a guy who's unbeatable and also sometimes unbearable.

Gunner on the other hand has a secret and also he likes his PA a little too much. But this attraction has been there right from college days when Gia would be working in the library and gunner with his friends would go to study. But the shy and quiet girl never gave him the time of the day.

I was as shocked as Gia when she has to suddenly search for a new living place and ends up going to a hotel. But then gunner comes to her rescue and offers her a place to stay.

Gia is shocked to find out that she'll be sharing living space with gunner in his home. Also, as gunner attitude towards her starts changing, Gia wonders if the hard exterior hides a soft interior in gunner.

It was surprising and I loved seeing how gunner is self assured yet kind Hearted but does it in his blunt style. Then there's the secret that he's been hiding from his family and it all connects to the scars left over from his past.

On the other hand, Gia also has a past that still haunts her but I loved how gunner makes her feel special and also worthy and in turn how Gia helps him face his issues.

I didn't expect the turns this story took with also a completely different family secret coming out. I just loved how gunner and Gia progress and come together and eventually help heal each other. Loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I hated how the author bypassed Gias PTSD over gunners. Like come the hell on! She was raped & this author isn't even classifying it as PTSD. That's complete bs. Of course she had PTSD. I'm so annoyed that we had more crap & sensitivity on his crap than hers, like hers wasn't anything to be considered diagonisable but his was becaus he accidently pulled the trigger on his dad. What the heck ever. That was my biggest gripe w/this book. Had the author given Gia that consideration of a diagnosis than this book would have gotten a a 3 & half star rating, probably a 4 because everything else was really good. I just hated how each time his trauma was brought up, he got a diagnosable mention of PTSD and she didn't.

Gunner and Gia are both broken and hurt by their pasts. They both have crushed on each other since college. Abuse, secrets, insecurities and fear keep them both closed off to relationships. An experiment with dating opens doors both thought were closed forever. The story is messy like their emotions. It seemed a bit all over the place. Loved Gia. She was seeet and quirky. I had a love/hate relationship with Gunner. He was foul mouthed, rude and abrasive yet did nice things for people. But overall I liked the story

Chasing Gunner by J.M. Stoneback is book Two in the Chasing Series. This is the story of Gia Gallagher and Gunner Underwood.
Gia and Gunner met in college but she didn't finish where he did an went on to be rich. Both had abusive past but Gunner turned to drinking and being a man whore. Gunner doesn't know how to treat women I thought although he did have a soft spot for an older employee, so he was a complex person. We do get dual points of view so we do get some in-site into why Gunner treated Gia so harshly.

Did you ever have a regret where you didn’t go after someone you were truly attracted to? This is a story where that has happened but as time has pasted they have both picked up emotional baggage. This is their story of how they work together to overcome the past and try to make a future for themselves.

There are sad moments, happy one, oh crap did that just happen? It was a page turner and I look forward to reading more from this author.

3.5 stars for Chasing Gunner by J.M. Stoneback. This is the first book I have read by this author. I will say at first, I was a little leary about the book. The cover was just ok, not that excited. However, as I scanned the cover, I noticed a quote on the front “There is a thin line between love and hate” and let’s be honest who would not be intrigued by that line. I was excited to see what the author would deliver with this book. Ok so let’s get into the nitty gritty of the story and its characters. We Gia needed a job, so Gunner hired her. She is horrible and her job and Gunner is an asshole. Gia wants more than the job she has for Gunner; she wants to open a bakery. She is just too busy paying of her student loans for a degree she didn’t get to finish. “Point blank—this job is like prison; you do your time and you get out.” Gia is a quirky girl who loves color, hints her nickname Rainbow. She is pretty broken on the inside but tries to not let it show on the outside. When she first meets Gunner in college, she would not talk to him when he came to the library, not because she did not want but because her boyfriend at the time said she could not talk to any other men ever. She was in an extremely abusive relationship that has caused her to have issues now. Now all she really wants is to be able to stand on her own two feet. Ok so not let’s talk about Gunner better known as Wolf. I hated him in the beginning. I thought he was a straight up jerk, who treated women like crap. He slept with all kinds or women and had no relationships. He is just not a likeable character at first, then that all changes and we get to see a softer side to Gunner. Gunner is suffering from sever PTSD from an event that happened with his abusive father. He is an alcoholic, trying to numb his pain with women and drink after drink. “Real pain is not from hurting yourself like breaking an arm or leg. Sure, it hurts like a motherfucker, but that pain is temporary, the wound will heal, and you’ll move on like it never happened. Real pain lies in what’s in your head, the mental scars people imprint on you or the ones you inflict on yourself.” As I learned more and more about his past I fell in love with his character. I know some may read this and think, how can Gia fall for him blah blah blah , but honestly how can she not. This isn’t a story about instant love. This is a story about learning to deal with your issues and moving past them, about helping someone even though it may break you. This book was so much more than a simple love story. My only complaint is I wanted more of an epilogue.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a deep, but sometimes dark love story.

Gia Gallagher was also the quiet girl in college who kept to herself and barely looked up from her job at the library. She never seemed to have many friends and kept to herself but when she is hired to be a personal assistant to a man from college she does her job but seems to flinch when he gets into her personal space.

Gunner Underwood always had a "thing" for Gia in college but his "Rainbow" never really gave him the time of the day so he spent his time filling the nights with random women who never meant anything to him. Now that he runs Underwood Banking he has employed the girl he has always wanted.

As Gunner and Gia get closer he tells her he doesn't do relationships but still wants Gia. But soon Gunner's demons begin to take over and will it cost him everything?

This was such a great book filled with laughs and also moments of sadness where you are not sure how the characters are going to get through.

Both Gia and Gunner have ghosts and pasts that are troubled but each of them focus on different ways of healing and dealing with the issues which can either strengthen or destroy the characters.

**I received a copy of Chasing Gunner from Xpresso Book Tours and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions expressed below are not solicited in any way.**

Chasing Gunner by J.M. Stoneback is the second book in her Chasing series but as of right now Darien isn't available but I have hopes of someday reading it. Chasing Gunner has everything angst, alcohol and drug addition, domestic violence, and finding love with Gia who has her own past horrors. But for me the author did a wonderful job writing how the H/h managed to get beyond all of their problems and learn to love again.

Gia Gallagher isn't a great personal assistant to Gunner Underwood (Nickname: Wolf) whom he calls Rainbow because of her interesting colored outfits. Because of student loan debt her wish of owning her own Bakery so for now she'll do coffee runs and tolerate Gunners rotating women and drinking because he pays very well. But when she's faced with be homeless, her boss will offer his penthouse extra room to her even though he wants her in his bed. Somehow they will figure out how to love each other all while dealing with their past demons and PTSD.

Gunner Underwood buys failing banks and brings them back from the brink but he has demons and flashbacks from his childhood, alcohol addiction and his one goal is to get Gia into his bed but first he needs to confront his ghosts from his past before he drinks himself to death. Can Gia save him even though his friend Darien and Matteo have tried and failed? Will they find the love they both want desperately? Gia asks one thing of Gunner get help and deal with his PTSD before he can come back to her for their happily ever after.

☆☆☆☆
Heartless Boss was an entertaining read with interesting characters and enough angst to make my angst-addicted heart happy.
Gunner Underwood and Gia Gallagher knew each other in college but it wasn’t positive in the least. He loved picking on her as she worked in the library. Her memory has her putting some of the blame on him as to why she didn’t graduate college. He was attracted to her but his behavior got in the way. It didn’t help that she had an abusive boyfriend at the same time. Since they saw each other last, Gunner has become a very successful and wealthy man. His days consist of work, drink, sex and repeat. When he sees her again, she’s in a dire state. She desperately needs a job and she’s homeless. He helps her. One thing is painfully clear. He still wants her more than ever. Both of them have been through a great deal in their individual pasts. Both see therapists but Gunner didn’t act as serious as he should have. He struggles with his past and PTSD due to a past event. If he wants Gia in his life, he will need to come to terms with his addictions. He’s been a functional alcoholic since he was 16 years old. Will he decide to break his rules in order to win Gia over?
This book pulled me in from the beginning and kept me engaged till the very end. My only issue was my feelings towards Gunner. One minute his behavior had me wanting to smack him and the next I saw some potential that he could be the man Gia deserved. In the end, I enjoyed the story. It was a definite page turner and as a whole, a good story. I do recommend it. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

I have read the supernatural story A Ghoul's Kiss by J.M. Stoneback and this quickly turned out to be my new favourite author, so you can imagine my surprise when I was offered Chasing Gunner from booksprout for an honest review. Well, I was surprised as I thought she would just stick to paranormal stories, I mean I really enjoyed A Ghoul's Kiss and am waiting anxiously for the 2nd book in the series to arrive, but a romance story?
I am so glad that I decided to take a chance on Chasing Gunner, as it was just as good. My only regret was I didn't realize that this is the 2nd book in the series, the first one being Chasing Darien. I wish I had read that one first as the characters that are in Chasing Gunner are also from Chasing Darien and now I no what happened to them, so a bit of a let down. I am going to still read Chasing Darien even though I have the gist of what happens to them, to no surprise.
Now there will be follow up books with the other characters to come - so yes I will read those also.
What I enjoyed about this story was the world building. J.M. Stoneback has a way of writing a story to get you invested in the characters. Speaking of the characters Gunner and Gia are 2 broken people overcoming their tragic past and each has trouble trusting people and guarding their heart.
On a side note Gunnar is dealing with PTSD and it was dealt with tastefully.
Overall I recommend reading all stories from J.M. Stoneback !

J.M. Stoneback is a new to me author, and I gotta say, I'm a fan after reading Chasing Gunner which gripped from the very beginning, and held my attention completely until the end. It's the story about Gunner, who is a successful man with PTSD from his past baggage, who drinks too much, sleeps around too much, and has no filter, which all stems from those demons. And he even sees a therapist who tries to help him with it, but he's still not quite ready to face everything head on. He has this PA named Gia Gallagher, who he's always had a thing for, which dates back all the way to college, but Gia aka Rainbow, has her own set of demons that keeps her from entertaining relationships, or even hookups, though she's had her own secret thing for Gunner. So there's some big chemistry shooting sparks, even though she lets him get away with nothing, until her apartments get sold out from under her, and she finds herself staying with him, so that chemistry won't be denied anymore. It leads to sexy times that lights any furniture it takes place nearby on fire, but it's more than that, see hearts get involved despite them trying to keep them guarded. However, there's still those demons that need to be faced, plus some big twists that has the crap hitting the fan, which in turn has the fan dropping my f-bombs. So yeah, this story is fantastic, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Their past was collage, she was a sophomore to his senior. Loads of triggers!
Great story, beast fell for the bright beauty but she was the one that got away. Easily to fall into this story and not wanting to surface when it ends.

Gunner Underwood ‘Wolf’ grow up poor, abused, and older brother to his sister Alena and witnessed their father’s abuse of their mother. His childhood turned him into a hard working drunk that hits it with women multiple times a week. If their get clingy he ghosted them, his experience if they’re more interested in his wallet then they aren’t not what he wants. Plus this guy is suffering from ptsd, and that’s why he’s self destruction with alcohol from morning til night. As Gia said, he puts the C in crazy and the W in hoe, because he screws every women on his hookup list, even after a new chapter with Gia.

Gia ‘Rainbow’ grow up in bad situations, pretty much the day she was born, lost her mother and grow up in the system then abused by the ‘boyfriend’, now ex. Her life was heard but she still wears the scares from her last day with her ex, no matter what good comes from her present her past is a constant reminder every day. But Gunner has a way to get under her skin just like she does with hime and neither one can shake or screw to lessen their grip.
Will the beauty tame the dark wolf? Or will the darkness take away the brightness of his opposite?

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. This was my first book by this author and will not be my last. I need to read Chasing Darien the first book in the series. I love Gunner, Gia likes to call him Wolf, he’s broken, fighting his demons, drinking and trying to deal with his PTSD. Then there’s Gia or as Gunner calls her Rainbow, she’s got baggage as well, surviving an abusive ex and starting her life over and. I’m working with Gunner. She’s sassy, a great match for him and they’ve been tap dancing around each other since college. Neither one knew the other was was pinning away for them. Circumstances have pushed them together and now the owner up feelings are starting to surface. Neither feel worthy of love, but the sexual tension is building up and there will come a time that it’s going to explode and when it does will these two be ready for the outcome? Can Gunner move past his demons and confide in Gia and can Gia tell Gunner everything that’s happened to her? I loved this book and I hope there’s more to cone. Secrets and denial play a factor in their relationship. You can’t move on until you fix yourself and let love in. Banter is amazing, sexy, deliciously hot! Highly recommend this book.

I thought Chasing Gunner was a great story that had me really into what was going on with the characters and hoping they'll pull together and get a happy ending . The blurb really intrigued me to were I wanted to know Gia and Gunners story they were interesting characters they frustrated me to know in with how they handled certain situations but some of it was understandable but had me shacking my head . But over all the couple showed alot of growth to their character I mean they both had a difficult past to were I so wanted them to find their way to one another . This would be the first book that I have read by J.M Stoneback and I'm looking forward to seeing more books in my kindle by the author.

Gia does not enjoy working in the office but she has bills to pay and working for Gunner makes it even worst. He is prickly boss who tortures her until she is back home. Gia loves colors but working PA to Gunner doesn't allow her to express her love of colors except her shoes.
Gia and Gunner knew each other from their days at NYU. Gunner always visited her while she was working as librarian and always asked her out but she never accepted. Gia never opens up to anyone unless she is comfortable. Gunner was finally getting to know her but she quit her job and went away and she is back and working as his PA.
Gia and Gunner have their own issues from their past and Gunner is still struggling. When Gia had to find a new apartment, Gunner offers his home and they becomes roomies. Gia always had a feelings for him but she knew he was womanizer and changes dates like his shirts.
Gunner lays out his expectation of their relationship to Gia and things gets heated but their past catches up to them. Now Gunner needs to to find away to find himself before he loses Gia.
It was different type of office romance. They both have their own issues but they work it through. I did enjoy reading this book.

4 1/2 Stars!
Gunner is a hard one to figure out. His opening scene showed him to be a real tool and I disliked him a lot. He treated Gia really poorly, lusted after her, and had intense sex with one of his hookups because he was trying to get Gia out of his mind. Ugh!
I started to like him when he was surprisingly kind to Gia when he found her crying at her desk after being evicted from her little apartment.
Then I started disliking him again when all he could think of to deal with his attraction to her was to do the dirty with his hookup.
I was a bit disappointed that Gia wasn’t all that great at her job and the way she openly accepted his brutal and cruel “honesty” with her and others. Sometimes rude is just rude.
As the story progressed, Gunner’s character starts to show and he actually started to soften his rough edges because of Gia.
This ended up being a totally entertaining and steamy read with lots of emotional drama involving both Gunner and Gia. Their complex and painful past binds them together instead of tearing them apart.
Well written with good inner dialogue and dual POVs.

This was a book that had me hooked from the very first chapter. I loved this entertaining, emotional romance. Gunner and Gia are complex characters with wounded souls. I felt an emotional connection to them and my heart broke for them. What could be a pretty basic, superficial plot idea is elevated to the next level by an intense, long simmering attraction and powerful emotions. The stark differences in how these two dealt with their damage and baggage was gritty and realistic. Gia was an amazing character. She totally charmed me. I loved how she embraced her uniqueness. This is something that is happening more often in books, but in my opinion not often enough. So, it is always an addition that I find delightful. Gunner...Well in my opinion Gunner was so often his own worst enemy and that is tragic and painful thing to be. His demons were simply eating him alive. The story itself offers up drama, heartache, angsts, twists and a love that has just been waiting for the right moment to shine. A poignant and powerful romance that is so worth reading. This is my impartial, independent review.

Two broken people with a past of hurt and pain get your tissues and your pom poms out because you will be cheering them on. Gia has lived with abuse most of her life escaping it only to go off to college but didn’t get a chance to finish and she has crushed her a boy from her past. Sexy as all get out Gunner whose past isn’t much different from the girl he grew up with, crushed on both know pain, abuse, fear and both their own set of insecurities to deal with daily. Emotions are all over the place in this, the lack of communication have these two all over the place but not to fear they get it together both learning to open up about what they he have been through and Gunner learning to care for others and putting the bottle down (undercover and not so undercover alcoholic). Gia was sweet, weird in her own way with a few quirky habits but a good person each of them have so much to work through but the amazing thing is with a little trust in each other, healing is what they are doing for each other but can they find happiness?

Gia and Gunner are two very broken people with demons chasing them on a daily basis. It was interesting to see how differently they each were dealing with their hurts and fears. Gia was working hard to pull herself up and put herself first. To take care of the pain and hurt from her past. Gunner on the other hand while professionally successful, emotionally he was a broken man, drinking and using women to escape his demons. These two have a past and they have a present, but can they heal themselves and each other to have a future. I laughed and I cried. These two characters are so well written it is impossible not to engage and become emotionally invested. There were several twists and turns that kept this reader guessing and almost frantically turning the pages because I just had to know what happens next. This was a first time read from this author for me and I can promise you it will not be the last. I recommend you add this one to your must read list!
