From a fan favorite author with more than one million books Four brothers find love in unexpected places in this western historical series.Levi Hooper is the youngest brother and tired of being ‘the kid.’ No one takes him seriously. Not even the girl he hoped to marry. Zola Minor needed an escape from a controlling relationship. She found one by moving west with her parents. When her father falls ill, the family stops to rest near the Coulee Crossing Ranch—Levi’s home. While Zola finds a freedom she’s been seeking in the open spaces and big sky, she also clashes with Levi. In the best way possible. She is both attracted to and afraid of the young rancher. She sees what his brothers can’t. Levi is a mature young man with a generous heart. A heart she’s afraid she can’t resist. But Zola’s family never planned to stay. When her pa is strong enough to continue the journey, she faces a tough leave the rancher behind? Or take a chance and trust him with her heart?
Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.
Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.
She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
These are wonderful stories and lessons in Gods love. The people in these stories are so blessed both to have God and each other in each of their lives.
The youngest Hooper brother finally comes home! Everyone is ecstatic - even Levi! When he comes across a family staying in the soddy that his sister-in-law lived in, he begins to get involved. Zola Minor and her parents have stopped to rest and let her father recuperate from an illness that he has contracted on his way to his brother’s home. Finally, they are able to continue their journey with Levi as an escort. Things with Zola are left unsaid because of her feelings towards men. Will they change after Levi returns to the ranch? Will he be willing to give up on the promise that he made his pa? Great story by a great author.
In this fourth book of the series Levi becomes friends with Zola and offers to accompany them on their journey until Mr Minor is stronger. Along the way their friendship deepens, in spite of Zola’s fears from a controlling beau in her past. Many events occur along the way, but Levi’s remembered verses help them face adversity and restore their faith. It’s hard to say good-bye to this family but their stories were strengthened by faith.
But honestly, Zola was just too much with her “I won’t let a man control me”. She must’ve said it 50 times. I get that Henderson was a horribly, controlling jerk, but she really needed to quit thinking the same of sweet Levi.
They were both fun-loving, live for the moment young people. But then, without warning, Zola would morph into this snarky bee with an itch and lash out at poor Levi. What’s sad is, I really enjoyed her character in the last book.
She was emotionally destroyed by a man who was controlling, demeaning, and cruel. He was shot for his actions but the hurt he caused lives on in her. He is the youngest and insecure by the coddling still given to a grown man. They have come of age but struggle to flourish until God brings them together. Highly recommended for all readers.
The whole series has been good. This book is all about healing past hurts. Overcoming abuse from an earlier relationship makes it difficult for Zola to trust. How can anyone keep from living the horse named King with all of his playful antics. This was an enjoyable novel to read.
I always enjoy Linda Ford’s books. This series is about a family with strong ties to each other but to God. There are four brothers and Levi, the youngest, has promised his Pa that he will stay together with the family...but will love interfere with his promise?
I absolutely loved King. Made me laugh. I enjoyed the relationship of Zola and Levi right from the start. Appreciated how he kept helping her see things from a different perspective. Loved all the Scripture verses and how they were used to assist in times of need. A great ending too.
Of all the books in this series, this is my favorite. The love that grows so gently and sweetly between Luke and Zola reminds me of my husband and I when we fell in love. Linda Ford does an excellent job with these characters, and indeed all the characters in this series. I will read her other books, joyfully!
The author has been very good at telling us her story of the adventures of the people in Canada who in the early days of the settling of the western part of the country. The story is a very fun to read love and adventure story.
You did it again and I thank you for writing another one.
I have always appreciated a good story and these stories of yours are among the best! I like most of the people and those I don't like you manage to do away with. Thanks for writing such interesting st9ries.
I enjoyed this book so very very,I love how the author worked the whole novel around Lord's Word the scriptures about not fearing and about love God's love. I recommend for everyone.
This was a great ending to the Hooper family. I know there are more books in this series, but the Hooper are not the main characters. I loved Levi and Zola, there story was so sweet and caring.
Good story, but I liked the first 3 more for some reason. I just didn't get the same realistic feeling about their relationship. Zola seemed a bit too adamant about being "controlled" by a man, so refused to see Levi as he was.
I recommend reading this book. This author combines love religion and history to spin an enlightened tale of the old west. The trials and tribulations these people incur gives explicit incite on the west. Great reading
This book reminds me how a friendship I once had continued many years. It turned into a marriage. As Levi and Zola shared fun interests and adventures to finally realize what their hearts felt. Another great book of Linda Ford's.
Another fun, light read that deserves a 3.5. This is about Levi, the youngest Hooper brother, and Zola, a young lady who escaped a controlling man in another area.
