Angel
The story, titled “The Angel”, is a prelude to an Ontology of Evil (Anatomy of Darkness), according to which Evil is divided into two hypostases, Allure and Horror.
Common experience indicates that Evil can at times attract people and at other times repel them. Evil, in general, can be perceived by people in two ways, and those two ways are as different as the image of a magnificent gothic temple embellished with monstrous statues is to bearing witness to the slow and arduous death of a loved one. The fact that a reader might think that, even when faced with such an experience might secretly bring us pleasure, might be indicative of how well those two powers are intertwined and how hard it is for them to be separated.
However, they seem to be separated in the story “The Angel”. Both hypostases of Evil appear through the tale which Mr. Papadimitriou, a journalist and a publisher narrates to two of his friends.

Θα ξεκινήσω λέγοντας ότι γενικά φοβάμαι τα ξενόγλωσσα βιβλία. Φοβάμαι ότι δεν θα κατανοήσω πλήρως τοσο το περιεχόμενο τους όσο και τη μαγεία τους , εφόσον δεν τα διαβάζω στη μητρική μου. Ωστόσο το συγκεκριμένο με εξέπληξε ευχάριστα. Κατανοητό αλλά όχι απλοϊκό λεξιλόγιο, άρτια μεταφρασμένο και ευανάγνωστο. Μέχρι εδώ καλά. Ως προς το περιεχόμενο, δεν σας κρύβω πως ήταν κάτι εντελώς διαφορετικό για εμένα. Στα πλαίσια της ιστορίας που διηγείται, κατάφερε να ενσωματώσει στοιχεία ενδελεχούς έρευνας, αναφορικά με την σαγήνη του τρόμου μέσω της τέχνης. Κάνοντας αναφορές σε γλύπτες, ζωγράφους, ποιητές και συγγραφείς ο κύριος Καλαϊτζής με μύησε (χωρίς να με κουρασει) στον κόσμο της σκοτεινής πλευράς της τέχνης. Στο βιβλίο, θα βρείτε υπέροχες εικόνες, πίνακες και γκραβούρες που από την μια αποκαλυπτουν το πρόσωπο της φρίκης ενώ από την άλλη αποτελούν αξιοθαύμαστα έργα τέχνης που προκαλούν δεος. Η ιστορία που εκτυλίσσεται στα πλαίσια του βιβλίο είναι εξίσου ευχάριστη, αν και ο ρόλος της είναι μάλλον δευτερεύων. Εν ολίγοις, αγάπησα το εντυπωσιακό αυτό βιβλίο και ανυπομονώ να διαβάσω και έλα έργα του @gregorykalaitzis
