Hemživý chaos a jiné příběhy
Mezi Lovecraftovy nejzajímavější práce patří povídky z období, kdy byl trýznivou finanční situací nucen psát pro jiné, ať už jako utajený, anonymní autor, přepisovatel nebo přiznaný spolutvůrce, vesměs rozvíjející náměty a leckdy i sny platících zákazníků. I do všech těchto děl se však otiskovaly jeho svébytné vize a styl a občas se do nich vkradly děsivé bytosti z jeho slavného panteonu.
S. T. Joshi, známý znalec a badatel autorova díla, ty nejlepší spolupráce a revize sebral do dvousvazkového vydání, v němž jsou všechny povídky opatřeny zasvěcenými poznámkami a komentáři a uvedeny do souvislosti se zbytkem Lovecraftovy tvorby. Výsledkem je dvousvazkový soubor, jenž jistě potěší všechny příznivce tohoto klíčového představitele moderního hororu.
Patrně nejslavnějším textem tohoto prvního svazku je novela „Pod pyramidami“, kterou Lovecraft napsal pro iluzionistu Harryho Houdiniho. V poslednej dobe celkom často skloňujem čítanie pred spaním. Je to moment, kedy potrebujeme upokojiť myšlienky a dostať sa do pokojného, vegetatívneho stavu v ktorom je možné do rána odpočívať.
Vrámci tohto procesu som v poslednej dobe vyskúšalo viacero kníh a žánrov. Bolo mi prekvapením, že som sa v overenom štýle majstra hororového žánru H.P. Lovecrafta stretol aj s upokojením zmyslov. Kniha Hemživý chaos a jiné příběhy (Argo, 2020) z nakladateľstva Argo je zborníkom spisovateľa z pestrého obdobia autorských spoluprác. Na poviedkach a úvahách nepracoval sám, v snahe o vyriešenie vlastnej ekonomickej situácie vytváral obsah na objednávku. Ak to povieme veľmi zjednodušene. Nemal strednú školu, ani vysokú. Jeho vzdelanie mu umožňovalo zastávať len obmedzené množstvo pracovných pozícií. Vzťah ku vzdelaniu je v osobnosti Lovecrafta veľmi ambivalentný. Na základe limitov v matematike sa nemohol venovať astronómii, ktorou bol dlhoročne fascinovaný a vyčerpanie bolo rodovým prekliatím. Aj jeho otec sa údajne dostal do hrobu z príčiny stresu a fyzického i mentálneho vyčerpania.
Všetku svoju energiu venoval košatej kreativite, z ktorej vyvstali kultové diela v žánri hororu. Práca so živlami, zmyslami a zvýšeným tlakom sú zaručenou kombináciou každého jeho literárneho útvaru od poviedky, cez román až po esej. Práve posledná zmienená kategória tvorí silnú ingredienciu v textoch obsiahnutých v čerstvom zborníku Hemživý chaos a jiné příběhy. Texty majú spirituálny charakter a sú zasadené do rôznych etnických, teologických a kultúrnych kontextov. Pracuje s históriou starovekého Egypta, orientuje sa na korene Ázijských náboženstiev, vracia sa za obdobím indiánov. Práve pestrosť týchto prostredí vytvára najväčší chaos a pri čítaní “na jeden hlt” môže byť čitateľ obrazovo preťažený. Ideálna forma čítania je teda po častiach, aby bol efekt jednotlivých príbehov zastúpený absolútnou čitateľskou senzitívnosťou.
Ohromný pocit náhleho osamotenia a melanchólie je ťažiskom napätia. Hranica medzi skutočnosťou a fiktívnym svetom ťarchavého magického strachu je lámaná každým neopatrným krokom protagonistu. Kam padne pohľad, tam je pohyblivá vlna likvidačnej energie a temna. Medzi týmito čiernymi oblakmi démonických monštier a metafor sú ale texty meditatívne, presiaknuté upokojujúcim pocitom spirituality fixované na reálne náboženské predobrazy.
Kniha ukazuje, že Lovecraft pod štítom rôznych pseudonym a v spolupráci s ďalšími autormi bol schopný flexibilne reagovať na čitateľské požiadavky. Tak sa tu na mnohých miestach objavuje autentická neha a viera v ospalý pokoj, aký môže v jeho znepokojivých románoch chýbať.
Sme zasvätení do rôznych rituálnych procesov a brána medzi podsvetím a zmyslovo prebádaným svetom zíva nekonečnou hĺbkou podmanivého temna. Aj napriek tejto skutočnosti vieme otvoriť oči z dynamického sna a ocitnúť sa v čistom prostredí, ktoré môže kedykoľvek pred nami zaniknúť tým najdesivejším spôsobom.

"The Crawling Chaos" is a short story by American writers H. P. Lovecraft and Winifred V. Jackson (first published April 1921 in the United Cooperative. As in their other collaboration, "The Green Meadow", the tale was credited to "Elizabeth Berkeley" (Jackson) and "Lewis Theobald, Jun" (Lovecraft). Lovecraft wrote the entire text, but Jackson is also credited since the story was based on a dream she experienced.[citation needed]
Despite the title's similarity to the character's epithet, Lovecraft's monster Nyarlathotep does not appear in this story. The name was used because Lovecraft liked "the ring of it".
The story begins with the narrator describing the effects of opium and the fantastical vistas it can inspire. The narrator then tells of his sole experience with opium in which he was accidentally administered an overdose by a doctor during the "year of the plague".
After a disembodied sensation of falling, the narrator finds himself within a strange beautiful room containing exotic furniture, where a pounding sound from outside inspires an inexplicable sense of dread within the narrator. Determined to identify the origin of this sound, the narrator moves towards a window and observes a terrifying scene of fifty-foot waves and seething vortex consuming the shoreline at an incredible rate.
Sensing imminent danger, the narrator quickly exits the building. Fleeing the waves, the narrator travels inland. The narrator eventually arrives in a valley with tropical grass extending above his head and a great palm tree in the center. Driven by curiosity despite his fear, the narrator crawls on his hands and knees toward the great palm.
Soon after arriving at the tree, the narrator observes an angelic child fall from its branches. The child then smiles and extends its hand towards the narrator and the narrator hears ethereal singing within the upper air followed by the child saying in an otherworldly voice:
It is the end. They have come down through the gloaming from the stars. Now all is over, and beyond the Arinurian streams we shall dwell blissfully in Teloe.
As the child speaks, the narrator observes two youths emerging from the leaves of the tree. They take the narrator by the hand and describe the worlds of "Teloe" and "Cytharion of the Seven Suns" which lie beyond the Milky Way.
As they speak, the narrator observes that he is floating in the upper atmosphere, with the palm tree far below, and now accompanied by an ever increasing number of singing, vine-crowned youths. As they ascend, the child tells the narrator that he must always look upward and never down at the earth below.
As he rises further listening to the youths singing, the narrator is disturbed by the return of the sound of the waves, and, forgetting what the child said, looks downward and observes a sight of global destruction, with the waves consuming the cities until there is nothing left. This is followed by the waters draining into the Earth's core via an opening gulf, which causes the Earth to explode.

No, síce sa to niekedy ťažšie čítalo, ale bavil som sa. Či už jeho poviedky, alebo revitované, stále tam bolo cítiť jeho. JEHO !

Another strange short story by H.P. Lovecraft. This bizarre opium induced story felt all over the place but it was enjoyable. I love H.P. Lovecraft’s short stories.
