After I ruined my own life two years ago I never had anyone else to blame. I’ve had to live with my own hate without any way to release it. Until Elle shows up. I’ve never hated anyone the way I hate her. She’s a dead ringer for my dead girlfriend, and now Elle needs to join her. I’m the prince of this school and I rule my subjects fairly. But not her. I’m going to destroy her. Elle’s in my sights and there’s nothing that can stop me from pushing her over the edge.
Vindictive is a high school bully romance that contains mature themes and dark scenes that some readers may not enjoy.
This story is essentially about a girl who goes to a new school, an academy, no less — though how since she portrayed as dirt poor and doesn’t have a scholarship — new to town, and the step daughter to a physically abusive and potentially sexually abusive stepfather. Her mother is clueless and under her new husband’s thumb. The hero takes an instant dislike to the heroine because she looks like his former girlfriend (which makes the HEA somewhat awkward?) and proceeds to terrorize her. She is attracted to him, eventually succumbs; he becomes protective of her and they eventually become a couple, etc.
This book had all the elements to be a great bully romance - alpha a*hole hero, jealous / possessive, sweet heroine with inner strength. Unfortunately, the story didn’t unfold very well. Repetitious sentiment after repetitious sentiment, same repetitive theme — I hate you because you remind me of her and I want to destroy you. In fact, most of the bullying came from the hero with some intense dislike from the hero’s sister whom we never find out why is so malicious. We never see the two girls “make up.” The weirdest thing about this story was that we never read them saying they love each other. One can only assume after the two epilogues that this is so.
Things I like about the book were the intensity of their encounters, the total a*holery of the hero, their chemistry but those weren’t enough to save the story. It was nice way to past the time but too many missing elements.
(Second reading under different cover. It seems I liked the book more a second time around (unless something was changed).)
This missed out on being a good book as the MFC was too spineless and the Mac was too brutish. In my opinion Elle got the worst of it though as she was just written as a one dimensional push over in her school days and to add insult to injury she just evolve into a baby popping machine.
There was no growth or layer to her character - even though she was academically bright and could play her instrument well.
I really like a bully romance but I think the author missed the mark with this book. There were good bits to the book as well so am certain Mae will learn lessons in her future literate ventures.
I truly love bully romances but this was just all over the place. The premise was good, but there just wasn’t any follow through. The H was ridiculously awful..really over the top. Despite that, the h still fell for him. Though he really did nothing to redeem himself...I was disappointed
I love a good bully romance, but this is not one. Sexual assault is not sexy. None of the characters were endearing. Clay is just a narcissistic man-child with no redeeming qualities.
This book gets dark really fast. I enjoy ready dark bully romances and in my opinion this book provided exactly that. If you are just start off in this sub-genre maybe this might not be a book for you. The bullying shown is intense and scary, this is a work of fiction and that's how I read it as. Our main characters are broken and they need each other to hold one another together. These teenagers are from broken homes and that plays a huge part in how their characters are displayed. In the end love and support conquers all. I cannot to read more from Mae Doyle.

I enjoyed some of this book. However, there is a lot of mistakes made. Whoever was suppose to help proof read really messed up. It would have been a really great book if there was just a little more detail about the parents, sister, lives of each other and less mistakes. It took a lot to hold my attention with this book. Even as it fast forward there was no forgiveness from parents. No mention of if they enjoy having grandchildren or even if Elles mother ever came around. It was like poof sex, 2 yrs in college and then 5 years with kids and more sex talk. Sorry if I sound a little harsh.
You see that eye roll?? That's what this book deserves an eye roll cause what the heck did I just read??
This book was a hit and miss, like you could see the author's vision but it was so poorly executed. Clay never got any character development as far as I'm concerned, in fact everything about Clay was shit.
Elle's personality was confused, one minute she wanted to blend in and go unnoticed and the next she wanted to be noticed and belong.
All the other characters were literally just background noise.
This book needed beta readers, editors and proper execution before it published cause the plot had a lot of potential but it just became a massive flop.
Omg this book is intense and absolutely brilliant. With many crazy twists and turns we see poor Elle find out she looks like a dead girl that went to the new school she just started at. When Clay meets her he takes it upon himself to make her life miserable due to her looking like his dead ex. With him claiming she is his to the school. Will we see him change his attitude towards Elle or will everything turn bad. Only way to know is to pick up this book
Note to author: Get a good proofreader. You can't trust spell check. You might not have misspelled words, but you end up with missing words and wrong words.
Also, ended pretty abruptly. Just jumped from the first time they had sex without Elle being coerced, to a double epilogue. The double epilogue didn't include any of the characters from earlier or their reactions to the new relationship. It feels incomplete.
This is fairly dark cover to cover. The characters all seem to have personal issues going on at home that spill over to school life. It’s a bully romance and there may be some triggers for some readers especially as this is listed as a book for teens and young adults.

First book to be read by Mae Doyle. Man! What is there to say. Everywhere Elle turned it just did not look good for her, but I did love that she held her own. Clay is one twisted and dark guy. I will say this is not yoir typical bully romance but it is worth the read
This book could have been really good but it just seemed to be incomplete. Ellie's and Clay's relationship is super rushed and forced. Not once did they say I love you to each other and their was no gestures or signs that could express their feelings for each other. The characters weren't well-developed and the book is just missing something. I seriously don't even know if the main characters loved each other or not and that really bothers me.
This story is all about misplaced hate long lost love, and hope. The girl he loves is gone. Is there any way he can learn to love again. Learn to love a girl who reminds him of the girl he loved?
The story had potential; however it just fell flat. While the author had a good start; it seemed things were just too rushed through. The words also didn’t flow well.
