This book is about farming, but I've been using these in my garden. Most everything is simple, cheap, fairly accessible, science-based, and easy to understand and follow basic truths: plants do well when there is robust microbial activity around them, and it's good to guide them through what you have locally since that means they'll grow and change well with their environment. There's a lot of acronyms within JADAM that might make it seem intimidating, but don't be fooled – the actual concepts and ideas behind the acronyms are pretty easy to understand and simple.

Quotes from Jesus Christ and Karl Marx are scattered throughout the book, and there's a lot of rants about how many governments and corporations do not foster a good environment for farmers or for the planet. I found these thoughts pretty interesting and useful – and kind of an interesting approach that mixes philosophy with something very practical – though I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Christian or a Marxist, and I don't think you need to be one to get something out of this book, and the ideas flowed well with the more practical knowledge and recipes. I also found it pretty hilarious somehow…Cho is so committed. The strong spirit and honesty of intermingling of these ideas without trying to sell me something is unusual and striking.

I beg you to pick up this textbook! Youngsang Cho in this book not only offers the how of sustainable, ecological, and ultra-low-cost gardening and agriculture, but the philosophy and politics behind it as well. I saw another review here that claimed the book should've masqueraded as an a-political "cookbook" for gardening, which I believe is an absolutely awful idea. Cho recognizes the fact that all facets of existence are political, and that to deny it is in itself a political statement in support of capital and the destruction of life that capital facilitates. He makes it very clear that the reason this book and JADAM exists is to counter capital in defense of the living, and if that's not something you can come to terms with then I do not believe organic farming along indigenous wisdom is for you. If you are willing to come to terms with this, then this will be your best resource for organic farming available anywhere today.

This book is crazy in-depth. It would take a lifetime for me to try out everything. At times it is a bit difficult to read since it is a direct translation. However, in spite of the translation woes, the explicit information for these techniques is conveyed very well. I found the book to be a completely different and refreshing look at organic growing.

Very informative when you past the 100th page. It could've been a recipe book but for some reason they included an unnecessary amount of information about how the modern agriculture is evil instead of how you can make a jadam solution, but you will get there eventually.

Not the best planned or written book but it is full of useful information and it helped me change how I see a lot of things related to farming and gardening. It has helped me gain knowledge and skills that likely will be critical for those of us who wants to stay healthy as we move into this new world with bio engineered food and toxins all around us.

Highly recommended if you have an open mind and are into gardening or real food.

Some very interesting ideas that I'm going to try. I already have my comfrey sowed, and I'm not pulling out my stinging nettles.
