Life Will See You Now: Quit Waiting for the Light at the End of the Tunnel and Light That F*cker Up for Yourself

Rate this book
Best selling author, award winning comedian and international keynote speaker Gavin Oattes challenges you to live life better than you have to, to never be afraid of your own style and to blow your own god damn mind for a change.

Cast your mind back to that album that changed your life? The riffs, the hooks and the lyrics that blew your mind? That movie that moved your whole world and assured you that life was going to be special? Transporting you to a place you'd never been before, the opening chapter of that book that changed your life forever?

The hairs on the back of your neck stood, adrenaline rushed through your entire body with the weight of the world gone from your young shoulders. Energised, inspired, alive, all in and ready to turn up to this wonderfully f*cked up thing we call life.

Close your eyes and remember that feeling right there in that moment?

Life Will See You Now is a rousing, uplifting anthem that will inspire you to put down your phone, rediscover what truly matters and completely rethink what 'making it' in life actually means.

A personal development title with a difference - there's no step-by-step guide and no map to change your life - instead, it provides you with hilarious, real life inspiration, motivation and energy to figure it out for yourself and rediscover that wee piece of magic you had when you were just five years old.

Oattes makes the argument - backed by both positive psychology and an abundance of childlike wonder - that in an anxious world ruled by pressure, ego and other people's expectations, we are all incredibly lucky to be alive at a time where kindness, gratitude, play and ice-lollies really do matter.

Remember, you don't have to do what everyone else is doing. . .

Gavin Oattes was a key note speaker at a recent conference that I attended and I have to say I felt for those delivering sessions immediately after him! This book is thought provoking and laugh out loud funny! It also BBC showed me that we really need to play more!!!!

If you’re a kid that accidentally grew up into a serious adult or haven’t played hide and seek in the last month because you were too busy or stressed for such nonsense, stop and listen to this book. Don’t read it. Listen. Gavin’s voice will make your Audible ears happy. Scottish accent. Everything is better with a Scottish accent. ;)

Gavin has written an amazingly personal book charting his successes dissapointment and all the while his continuing personal struggles and coping mechanisms.

This book has within it the secrets to true success built from the bottom up one step at a time.

This book will stop you in your tracks and it's like Gavin personally guiding you to be the best version and be the milk for you and the world.

I humbly recommend this book to you. You will not be dissapointed. You will laugh cry and be moved by Gavins amazing beautiful words.

Thank you Gavin for commiting these words to print. You moved me and ignited Me.

I enjoyed this book. The reason for the 3stars rather than the 4stars is because I didn't learn anything new but it was a good reminder to play more and be silly more often, and not to be so grown up all of the time. Be responsible when need to be but definitely make much more time for some childish fun, sillyness & play. The author was very open with his life and emotions and I enjoyed reading about his life experience so far.

I don’t know the author and decided not to look him up on social media until I finished this book. I didn’t want to be influenced by his pretty of ugly face, plus he told me not to go online and eat ice cream!!
I felt as this book got more honest as it went along, as though Oattes settled into his story. I loved the chapter on anxiety as it mirrors how I sometimes feel, and I always pull myself through it but sometimes it’s tough!

Bloody Awesome!

I've read this entire book in just a few days. I literally couldn't put it down!

The honesty and humility is this book is simply amazing and not to mention a massive sprinkling of humour too.

It takes guts to be this vulnerable and to put yourself out there and I hope many more people follow Gavin's lead (including me!).

Thank you for writing this book.

Great read, one of the last few pages shares a quote from his son whilst sharing a lovely moment that had me in absolute stitches, worth it just to get to that! Some pearls of wisdom than aren’t delivered in your normal gloaty way with self-help books, he’s delivered them like a perfectly ripe oranges!!

The author was a key note speaker at a conference I attended 12 years ago and his words truly inspired me and changed my mindset.
It has been so good to listen to this book to remind myself about what’s important and what he said all those years ago that energised and boosted me then.
Thanks Gavin! x

put it on your list

A great insight into the mind of a fellow worrier. Feels like the author is a friend telling a story and sharing positive messages. Many relatable stories with a sprinkling of self help along the way. If you only read one book this year - this is it.

A easy read, childish at times, but a funny read. Not something i would recommend to others. I picked this one up at the airport to have a read on my long flight. The book really didn't start until 100 pages in, then it got a bit interesting.

Life Will See You Now is a motivational book by comedian Gavin Oattes about how to be more present and more positive about life.

The thing I liked the most about this book is how raw and personal it was and how it speaks out for mental health, especially men’s mental health. The last chapter or two had me welling up and feeling truly emotional. There’s nothing overly groundbreaking or new in this book but it is presented in a fun yet meaningful way.

I had previously read an Andy Cope book following attending a days masterclass with the man, this book compares favourably and is written from the heart with a clear intent to spread joy. Many of the points are simple but that is the beauty of it. The world needs laughter, it needs playtime and it needs us all to see the world through kids eyes. A great book, easy to read and perfect for those who actively practice well being and those who want to become a goose :) Gavin, well written and thank you. My dad is also in the moon and that chapter will stay with me and in my world it was my 2 year old who now waves to him. Grab this book folks and live it.
