After her history-making Kentucky Derby win, Trish believes she can go on to win the triple crown of thoroughbred racing but untold adversity and near tragedy may stop her progress
Award-winning and bestselling author Lauraine Snelling has over 80 books published with sales of over 4.5 million. Her original dream was to write horse books for children. Today, she writes adult novels about real issues centered on forgiveness, loss, domestic violence and cancer in her inspirational contemporary women’s fiction titles and historical series, including the favorite, Blessing books about Ingeborg Bjorklund and family.

They live in the Tehachapi Mountains with a Basset named Sir Winston ob de Mountains, Lapcat, and “The Girls” (three golden hens).
Absolute crap. Had nothing to do with horse racing in the real world. Snelling can't preach her way out of a wet paper bag, let alone write a decent book. I can't believe I paid money for this. I sold it or gave it away.
Really enjoyed this book. For me the series didn’t really start to pick up until the fourth book. The ending was a little too quick for me. Too much happening in the last chapter and I have mixed emotions about it.
16 year old Tricia Evanston has had several firsts this year. Spitfire won the Kentucky Derby & she was the first female jockey to win! The next day she was still celebrating with her brother, David, & the assistant trainer, Patrick. Spitfire was taking off their baseball caps! Red Holloran joined them, asking about her new car, a red Chrysler LeBaron convertible, won with the Kentucky Derby. What would her mom do? Back at the hotel their parents, Hal & Madge, discussed the newspaper coverage, which pictured Tricia cover with mud from the track. While they ate they discussed what life was like when paddlewheelers were the mode of transportation on the river, but Trisha's mom, Marge, reminded her that she didn't like wearing dresses. Trish's grandparent joined them & she realized her mom got her worrying from her grandmother...neither thought she should race horses! They discussed the possibility of Trish racing in California over the summer, but she had a chemistry class to make up...they'd have to work it out. It was also brought up that Spitfire was to be syndicated & moved to BlueMist Farms as a stud...Trish hadn't realized it was happening so soon. When they broke up, all but the Evanston family left town, but they were leaving for Pimlico, but Hal was going to Vancouver first for a chemotherapy treatment.
I enjoyed this series very much. A girl who lives on a horse farm in Oregon wants to be a jockey. Finally, her dream is coming true. Just as it has come true, her father dies of cancer. After this, she learns to cope with his death by turning to God. The one thing I did not appreciate about this book was the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing throughout the series. But, overall, I definately enjoyed them.
