Delilah Horton #2

Cupcake Overload

Rate this book
One night I was out with my girls enjoying a much needed ladies night while wondering if one more dirty martini would push me over the edge. The next thing I knew, I was in the club’s bathroom listening to a woman screaming, “No,” and a man’s voice growling, “I know you want it.”

That asshole picked the wrong restroom, in the wrong club, at the wrong time.

Little did I know the asshole was Cade’s VP, and although we saved that woman from his clutches that night, she’d be found floating in a motel pool a month later.

Running a PI firm is a lot harder than taking pictures for one, especially when your professional life spills over into your personal one. I’m going through cupcakes like our new puppy goes through piddle pads, and if I’m not careful there’s bound to be a Cupcake Overload.

Favorite Quotes:

They seemed really into each other, and although the age difference was probably at least ten years, I had to admit I had the urge to give her a high five over it. I mean, it's always a score for the sisterhood when an older woman bags a younger man, even if he does have delusions of surferdom.

Like the angel she was, Amy May slid a beautiful white-chocolate cupcake under my nose while I was freaking out. 'I love you,' I managed as I shoved it into my mouth.

I bent over to fluff out my hair, then tossed it back. 'Whoa,' I uttered when the effect looked more wild banshee, than seductive siren.

I was just standing there, staring at him like I'd paid admission.

My Review:

Cupcake Overload was a tasty treat without the calories. The story was laden with delightful indulgences such as steamy sensual scenes, wickedly fun and irreverent humor, clever observations, and an engaging plot, I fan myself as well as snorted, barked, and smirked as I read. The writing was crisp, highly amusing, and bitingly clever. New love bloomed, relationships solidified, a murder mystery was solved, and massive amounts of cupcakes were consumed. It was like nectar from the gods for this old cougar.

This was my first time reading anything by this author and I loved this book. The characters were all relatable and I felt like one of the bunch while I reading. Even though this was the second book in the series I didn't feel out of the loop at all. I'm a big fan of romance and mysteries and this book was the perfect combination. We had several laugh out moments and some sexy moments as well. Lila and Cade are in a committed relationship and seeing how he interacts with her kids makes my heart melt. The secondary characters are awesome. The mystery part of the story was good and it wasn't over the top. This story as a whole was just what I needed. I enjoyed this story so much I even purchased the first book in the series. If you are looking for a funny, romantic, mystery book this series is for you.

This modern day Nancy Drew kept me entertained! In this book, Lila and Cade's relationship is more solidly grounded, but they still have some growing pains to adjust to. Their chemistry is fantastic and Cade's warm ruggedness really melts my heart. I absolutely adore how he treats not only her, but her children. It hit close to home for me, which made it even more special.

As for the mystery, don't go in looking for a complicated story to solve. Don't get me wrong, there's just enough "who done it" to keep the story moving along and keep you on your toes.

If you're looking for a sexy, fun mystery, give CUPCAKE OVERLOAD a try!

Spoilers ahead

Book 2 in the series continues with Delilah now running the PI agency after the death of her former boss. A case of murder causes her to clash with someone from Cade's MC and created some tension in their relationship

***
I was absolutely not a fan of how Case handled the whole business with his VP and his confrontation with Delilah and her gang. I did not like him taking of to clear his head, I did not like his easily she forgave him, I did not like how she suffered from severe bbs with Cade
However this series is fun and entertaining, Lila was a great h except she turned a little stupid about Cade

Delilah "Lila" Horton is back, and now she has inherited the P.I Company as her own after her boss Moose passed away. Life is starting to look up for her as she's got a steady income, a job she loves, three awesome friends and a lovely man Cade. One night during a girls night out, Lila/Amy/Bea and Carmen bust into the male's toilet as we all know the females loo's always have massive lines. They get in and overhear a girl telling a guy "NO" and "STOP." The friends bust down the toilet door and the female run away. Later the female Samantha turns up dead in a hotel pool, and the guy that the girls saw with her is none other than Sledge who Lila is about to find out is her new partner Cade's VP of his biker club. Now with Sledge looking like the main suspect, it is up to Lila with the help of her friends to find out what happened to Samantha. Even if that for Lila means talking to Eric - her douche ex-husband as Samantha's ex-works at the local bank where Eric is the manager. I love reading this series as it reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series with Stephanie and Lila being similar magnets for trouble and as Janet has, Bethany Lopez fills her pages with lots of laughter moments. If you need a cozy, romantic comedy/mystery now with Murder, Mystery, Mayhem, and Cupcakes sprinkled --- I mean laughter throughout the pages then check out Book #2 Cupcakes series "Cupcake Overload" as you won't be disappointed with this reading.

4 Lila and Cade Stars

This is the second book in the series about a divorced Mum who has become a P.I and is falling in love with her hot biker boyfriend. Lila is a quirky character and we get to watch her blossom from a quite quiet person into a vivacious, bubbly woman who is surrounded by great friends and is creating a new life for herself post divorce.

This series has a strong Kristen Ashley vibe to it. Is some of it a bit far fetched? Yeah, maybe, but this is fiction and this book provided a delightfully distracting couple of hours.
Who wouldn't want to read about a highly entertaining group of people,a crazy heroine with a penchant for cake and a deliciously hot biker?

This is not a standalone - each book leads to the next but there are no cliffhangers. It's funny, sexy and light reading. I'm looking forward to book three

I am absolutely adoring this series because a) cupcakes, who doesn’t love cupcakes?!? And b) it is the perfect mix of suspense, sexy, and humor.

“Dammit, Lila,” I whispered, giving myself a mental slap. “You’re not calling him The Douche anymore, remember? We have a truce. It’s Eric…” Old habits were hard to break.

We meet back up with Delilah ‘Lila’ Horton, and she is now the PI instead of just the photographer. She has been working lots of cheating cases, but suddenly gets a murder case that involves more than just a dead girl.

“Sheesh, you’d think he’d been gone for years, rather than days, the way my body was behaving. I was like a cat in heart, fighting the urge to rub myself all over him.”

We also get more of Cade, the hot, dangerous, sweet MC that is Lila’s main squeeze. Besides the two main characters, I loved getting more of the entire crew: Amy May and her cupcakes, Bea and Shannon, and Carmen.

I love that this is not a typical romance. It is fun and crazy. It is full of love and friendship. It has drama and suspense. I certainly can’t wait for the next book to find out what is going to down in Hawaii, as well as more of Carmen and Bran! ~ Tiffany, 4 stars

~~~
As sweetly delicious as a cupcake, this second book in Bethany Lopez’s romantic suspense series is a lot of fun. Like, a LOT. It’s also sexy (whoa, Cade…WHOA), mysterious and laugh-out-loud funny. And if that doesn’t make this book a winner, what does?
Hmm, the strong and humorous friendships that our main character, Private Investigator and Cupcake Lover, Lila has with Amy May, Bea and Carmen certainly help. Because they simply add to the easy charm of this book, and this series.
Cupcake Overload is a quick read—I knocked it out in a couple of hours, and enjoyed every moment of it—and although I needed a little prompting when it came to remembering the previous book (which I also enjoyed, I should add, quite a bit), I soon found myself eager to know what was going to happen. It might have felt a little rushed in places, especially towards the end, but no matter. It was still one scrumptious Sunday afternoon read, and has me salivating for more of this series.
In particular, more of Bran and Carmen (MUST HAVE) and of course, to find out what’s really going to happen in Hawaii… Needless to say, I most definitely have room for more Cupcake series books! ~ Beth, 4 stars
This is book two in the Cupcake series and man oh man do I love this series. Nope it is not about baking or cooking but cupcakes and one nice big beautiful cake is featured in this book ...in case you are wondering. So, here is the scoop on Cupcake Overload...nope you do not have to have read Always Room for Cupcakes to enjoy this fun filled romantic mystery BUT if you really want to get the ~FULL BETHANY LOPEZ~ Experience than I highly recommend that you read book 1 before reading this one.
In this book we get to know Cade our hawt MC biker and his Old Lady the PI Lila a whole lot better. The strong and forceful women in this town show up and it made me proud. As in real life things are not always what they seem at first glance and one has to search to get the truth. Good thing that Lila is a PI, although she is a new one at it. We get to see growing pains and new love all around and of course a well written story and mystery. I am looking forward to reading the third book and wondering should I swim into this late at night??? Or wait until daybreak?
Delilah "Lila" Horton is a private investigator with a growing business and relationship with Cade. Lila has a "Girls Night Out" with her friends which leads to trouble between her and Cade. Lila is renovating the home left to her for her family. Can Lila manage to keep her personal and professional life separate? Will Cade and Lila work things out? Your answers await you in Cupcake Overload.
This book is laugh out loud funny and an awesome sequel to Always Room For Cupcakes. The characters and story are rich, bold, imaginative, complex, honest, funny, down to earth, raw, flawed, hopeful, and mysterious. I look forward to more from this author in the future.
I enjoyed the previous story and this one was no different. Cade and Lila are so good together. Especially Cade with Lila's kids will just have you melting. Lila has come a long way from the women who was cheated on and I loved how she changed her life and became this awesome, loving bubbly person.
What I also loved about this story, is that its not just a romance story its a suspense one as well. And that was the part I loved best.
So a dead girl and another biker added to mix, what could go wrong
The narrator was not too bad. I still heard this very annoying buzzing sound on the audio, but other than that. Not a bad narration.
There is nothing better than reading a book that makes you laugh out loud – hysterically. “Cupcake Overload,” by author Bethany Lopez is absolutely hilarious and blended with the perfect amount of romance and suspense. This novel is the follow-up to “Always Room for Cupcakes” and we find Lila finishing remodeling the house that she inherited from Moose, running the P.I. firm and welcoming Cade into her family more and more. Lila is just as hilarious this time as she was in the first novel and still getting into crazy situations to get that money shot for her clients. Cade is still a bad-ass biker dude but also babysits the kids while she’s out with the girls, cooks, cleans, and is absolutely adorable. Knowing Lila’s kids are dying for a puppy, Cade comes home one night with a little furball Lab puppy, which they affectionally name, CB. I can’t tell you why it’s too funny and is a spoiler.
A murder brings Lila into a business deal with Sledge, the VP of Cade’s motorcycle club, and also leads her to a variety of characters that may or may not be involved with the murder. Lila is becoming more peaceful and at ease with her ex Eric, even trying to get over her habit of referring to him as The Douche. Basically, Lila and Eric are on the same page about the kids and visitation, and the kids are adjusting beautifully the new people in their parents’ lives. Everything is going well and happy and warm and fuzzy – but of course, there are a few bumps in the road.
The thing about Bethany Lopez is that her characters are so real. They experience both the good and the bad, the awkward and definitely the embarrassing, and they just deal with it and roll on. I think it’s so funny because I can see so many of these things happening to anyone, especially issues with Lila’s son and the hilarious airport scene at the end. Lopez’ writing is spot on making you completely forget that you’re reading because you feel like you are standing right there involved in the conversation with the characters. As her warning states at the end of the synopsis, there is foul language, sex and all sorts of crazy things that happen, so this is probably not the right book for someone easily offended. I’m not sure what this says about me, but I think both novels in the Cupcake Series are two of the funniest and most entertaining novels I have ever read. The creativity and fearlessness the author demonstrates in bringing these characters to life amazes me and I most definitely hope that there will be more to come in the Cupcake Series.
Ah! I love this series! Back in the land of cupcakes and Private Investigation. Cupcake Overload is a funny story filled with danger, romance, and cupcakes that will leave you salivating. Meeting Cade and Lila in the first book endeared me to their romance and exciting life in small town America. These two are brilliant together and this story picks up right where everything left off. I would say you should read the first book before this one; it gives you a good foundation and lets you hit the ground running on the second in the series.
First off, be warned. This book will leave you CRAVING sweets. I can admire a woman who loves cupcakes as much as I do. Lila’s love for the sweets left my tummy grumbling and endeared her to me even more. Lila’s friends are top notch in this book, friends who know exactly what each person needs, a group of women that is there through thick and thin. These ladies are one of my favorite parts of the story. Their lives are so intertwined. They do the mundane together, but they also do the dangerous and exciting together too. The comradery adds another level to this story that made me love it even more.
The romantic comedy and suspense aspects in this story are blended well. In my opinion, it was not as exciting and dangerous as the first book, but PI cases aren’t always as dramatic as can be. We see both the boring cheating cases and the high profile murder cases that come Lila’s way. Watching her balance her PI work, while being a mother of twins and falling in love with a steady, sexy man, is endearing. She seems to have it all going for her.
Cade and Lila are perfect together. They allow for room to explore and grow in this phase of their lives. Their chemistry is on fire! I adore how these two make each other better. Cade’s love of Lila and her kids is so precious. He is a protector and seeing the soft side of this mountain of a MC man is fantastic.
I am excited for more in this series. I want to see more of Cade and Lila but also watch the secondary characters grow and their lives continue on. This series has made me a fan of Bethany Lopez and brought my addiction to cupcakes to the forefront of my brain! Lopez makes romantic comedy and suspense work very well together. You will not want to miss Lila’ antics and the way Cade and her girlfriends are always there to save her.
I like my books angsty and full of emotion as much as the next person, but sometimes you just want to kick back with a read that takes things a little easier, one that is a pure feel-good book that makes you smile. The Cupcake series by author Bethany Lopez does just that, and CUPCAKE OVERLOAD, the second book in the series is just as delightful and as much fun as the first book was.
Lila Compton is back at it again, doing what she does best. As a PI, she's keeping plenty busy with the cheaters and philanderers that seem to run rampant in her small town, but this book brings a little something extra. When a young woman that Lila and her girls 'rescued' from the clutches of a gnarly biker dude shows up face-down in a swimming pool, Lila is immediately on the case. Things are a little trickier, because said biker dude is none other than the VP of Lila's hot times a billion lover man, Cade, and is claiming innocence. With Cade and the ladies on the trail, things are as crazy as one might expect, but, as always, amidst all the action, Lila is still making time for her beloved cupcakes.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series, due in large part to the author's wicked sense of humor that is apparent in every interaction, in Lila's inner dialogue, and in the shenanigans that abound. Bethany Lopez continues to write Lila as a self-sufficient, I'm not afraid of anything kind of woman, and her antics are a trip to follow. Throw in the lovable group of friends, her two endearing kids, and Cade, the man that shows her what it means to be cherished, but in a totally hot kind of way, and you've got a winner. I'm always looking forward to another book in this series, and give this one a solid 4 stars for keeping me super-interested, super-hungry (because, cupcakes!), and super-entertained. If you're looking for a fun series with non-stop laughs and action, you can't go wrong with this one.
This book immediately started off surprisingly crass, which caught me off guard. I really enjoyed book 1, and this just didn’t seem to fit, folks. The OTT brief smexy scene with Cade when Lila came home from the bar down to her describing why she didn’t want a puppy right away (all the p*ss and sh*t) had me shaking my head by the poor taste in writing. Cade’s hateful/jerk reaction during Lila’s first trip to his MC club house had me finding another reason why a book 2 may not have been such a great idea. Then Amy May (just one of Lila’s many BFFs to keep track of) taking Cade’s side. Well, that didn’t work for me, either. Nor the silent treatment she got for days from Cade afterwards. Lila’s pouting over not being told her lesbian cop friend, Bea, got married seemed thrown in for no reason, as well.
The writing felt forced in a way that had me feeling embarrassed for the characters for being written this way. Like the author was trying to hard to pull off funny, sweet, quirky, and sing-songy while being OTT smexy/crude at the same time. That combination just doesn’t work, folks. At 70%, I threw in the towel and decided Cupcake Overload was loaded down with so many unappealing factors for me that I needed to move on to another romantic read. Here’s to hoping others enjoy this one, it simply did not work for me.
Title: Cupcake Overload, Series: Cupcakes (Book 2), Author: Bethany Lopez, Pages: 266, should read book 1 first, stopped reading at 70%, MC hero, thought it would be better, OTT smexy with lusty language.
It’s best if you read Always Room for Cupcakes before reading this book. This is a continuation of Lila and Cade. The two are together and Cade stays with Lila most nights in her apartment with Erin and Elena. When Moose died in the last book, he not only left his business to Lila but also his house. Lila, Cade and her girl pals all helped to fix the house up so they could move in. Lila has taken over the PI business. The girls are out for a girls night out. When they have to use the restroom, the ladies has a long line so they go over to the men’s. They hear talking and a woman saying no. They break in to the door and tell the man to leave the woman alone. He gets nasty to the women, and the woman he was with takes off. A few days later she is found dead. Unfortunately the man she had been with that the ladies helped is the VP of the motorcycle club Cade is in. Cade doesn’t handle the situation well when he finds out that Lila was part of the group who descended on his VP with the woman when they are at the Clarissa b and tells Lila to go wait out front while he talks to his guys. Lila leaves and doesn’t hear from him for over a week. In the meantime, Lila gets in her van one day and the VP is sitting in her van. He asks her to take his case to find out who murdered the woman as the cops have him as their number one suspect.
It is always interesting with Lila, her cases, and her friends. There always seems to be something going on. As always, Lila’s go to when she is upset is a cupcake. I am so happy to see Lila and Cade getting closer. Cade is so good with her children and they love him. I love when Cade gets all caveman with Lila when she does something dangerous because of her job. I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it. I was given this book and voluntarily read it and reviewed it.
I really enjoyed the first book in the Cupcake series, Always Room for Cupcakes, (you can read my review here), so I was super excited when this one came out. Once again it was a fast read, and for those two hours it took me to finish, I laughed quite a few times. As I mentioned in my review for Always Room for Cupcakes, it reminded me of an R version of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, but without the love triangle that drove me crazy.
Bethany Lopez wrote Lila and her female friends perfectly. It felt as if I was out with my own friends; the way we talk and swear. A lot of the books I read don’t include swear words, and if they do, they can feel fake, as if the author put them in to make the book more hip. But the way Lopez wrote, they felt natural.
I do believe there were more sex scenes in this book, which makes sense since Cade and Lila are now a couple. Not only were the scenes really hot, but Lopez didn’t include any phrasing like, his pulsing member, which I was grateful for. I think those types of phrases work well in Regency Romances, but not so much for Contemporary.
I did feel as if the mystery was not as strong as in the first one, and a lot more of the main character’s time was spent with Cade or her girlfriends. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but if you are looking for a mystery/thriller, then you may be a bit disappointed. I still really enjoyed the book though since we got more character development with Lila’s friends. I am really excited to see how the budding romance with the lawyer goes.
If you enjoy funny books with strong female characters and steamy sex scenes, then you need to read this one…. Or better yet, if you haven’t already, read Always Room for Cupcakes and then Cupcake Overload.
Cupcake Overload is the second book in the Cupcakes series. I didn't know that when I began reading the book. I noticed the Should be read in order warning well after finishing the book. I might have not liked the fact that I didn't know how Cade and Lila's relationship began, but I didn't have a problem getting into the story. Honesty I had stand alone books in a series that were a lot harder to get into than Cupcake overload. I would have liked though to see Cade more in this book. I would have felt a bigger connection to him. He was great with Lila's kids so he is on my good side.
I know that I will continue with the series. I liked the characters main and secondary. The only reason I wish the point of view will change in the third book is because I get to know even better Lila's friends. They are very interesting people, each with a unique personalities. Even if the series continues to be from Lila's point of view I won't mind because unlike some books the friends aren't forgotten in the end. I would like to see what the universe has in order for Carmen. Her story is a subplot and I hope to see more.
Cupcake overload is a light and easy story to read after a tiring day. It might cause you the need to eat a cupcake yourself so keep one close when reading this book. The mystery of the dead woman blends well with the rest of the story, but I felt like the identity of the killer and the whole big reveal where a little too easy. I guessed I am more used to the more hard core stuff. Anyways this book is a good way to unwind from a hard day and I could easily recommend it to everyone.
Lila and her friends are out for girls-night when they find a young woman saying "No" to a greasy looking guy in the bathroom. Coming the the girls rescue, they think it's all over until Cade takes Lila to the compound to meet his brother MC's, only to discover the greasy guy is Cade's VP, Sledge, and Lila forgot to tell Cade about the incident. This causes Lila and Cade's first disagreement.
When Samantha, the young woman from the bathroom incident, turns up dead, all signs point to Sledge. He asks Lila to investigate and help clear his name. As Lila interviews everyone in Samantha's life, things finally start to fall into place. But will Lila and Cade make it through their first disagreement?
These books are short and sweet. I love how quickly things happen, but happen in a way that keeps you interested enough to want to keep reading. I'm looking forward to the next book. I can't wait to find out what happens in Hawaii and what's with Lila's feeling of dread. I'm also a little upset that the next book after that one doesn't come out until May. What am I going to do until then? UGH!
And all the talk of cupcakes is making me want to head over the the Sprinkles ATM near me. Yes, I live very close to a cupcake ATM... can you believe it. But I'm going to try to hold strong because I need to loose weight. LOL!
I really enjoyed this book. There was mystery, suspense, sexy hot scenes and lots and lots of cupcakes! Bethany Lopez is satisfying my sweet tooth with this series. This can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading Always Room for Cupcakes, Cupcakes #1 to get the full effect of the background of our fun couple.
Lila is a divorced mother of twins dating a tough, rugged biker, Cade. She is running her own PI business and of course faces danger in her line of work. But Cade is going to make sure she follows her dream while protecting her as much as possible. Lila has a strong circle of friends and Cade has his own biker family. But with Lila and Cade trying to blend their lives, there is a lot of activity going on around them.
There is fun, humor and sweet romance from our main couple. There is also suspense, mystery and a little danger. There is also punishment for Lila when Cade catches her acting up or not following the rules. Those are the sexiest pages.
As we learn more about each character and their place in the Cupcakes series, you will discover that you want to hear more about them. I enjoyed the variety that each page brought but I really loved the cupcakes!
An easy read, fast paced read with humor and a bit of suspense. I thought this book was pretty good, the only issue I had was that I wish I'd read the first book in this series so that I would've known the characters and a bit of their background; like when Lila and Cade first met. I believe I would've loved this book a bit more. One thing that I really liked about this book is how it was fast paced and there was never a dull moment or scene that dragged on and on to the point where I felt like I had to skim the pages to get to the dialogue between the characters. Also, the chemistry between Lila and Cade was truly off the charts; the seem like a very sexy couple together. I know Lila is newly divorced but I'd still like to read about her and Cade maybe getting hitched and having kids together (not sure how that would work out with him being in a MC). The humor in this book was awesome and had me laughing out loud. One other issue I had with this book was that I wanted some more action when Lila was trying to find out who really killed Samantha; also more interaction with VP (the car scene was hilarious). Overall, a really good read (just make sure you read them in order) and I would definitely read more from this series.
Lila is back and better than ever. She's catching her stride as a P.I. and settling into the new life she's created for herself, including her new relationship with hotty alpha MC biker, Cade. Finding herself in some sticky situations, including having to face off with Cade's VP, Lila has a lot on her plate trying to solve a murder and figuring out her relationship with Cade. Her awesome, loud, spunky, spitfire crew of besties are right by her side with laughs, loyalty, support, and of course a lot of cupcakes.
Cupcake Overload was a light, fun and quick read that also brought the sexy big time. Cade and Lila burned up the pages. They are such a great couple it's easy to root them on.
The Cupcake series is the perfect weekend read. So grab a cupcake, or two or three, snuggle up somewhere comfy and get ready to laugh, cheesy grin and swoon your way through these wonderfully cheeky flirty reads.
Great mystery love story! Lila or Delilah is newly divorced after her husband cheated on her, but she's got Cade, a tough biker who adores her and her twins Elan her son and Elena her daughter! Add in her group of friends that you will love and you have a great story outline that keeps you guessing and wondering who actually killed the girl they saved at the bar that fateful night! That night will come back and haunt Lila in many different ways, and because of it she just may lose Cade. Can they survive what's coming their way? You need to read this book to find out!
This was my first book I've read by Bethany and I loved it, I look forward to going back and reading book 1 which isn't necessary to read before this one but I'm sure it's just as great! Bethany kept me on the edge of my seat with this story and I could not put it down! 5 solid stars for this one and make sure you get your copy today!
Book two of this series is full of the same fun and quirkiness that Bethany Lopez shared with us in the first installment. Lila starts this story by stopping a possible attack of a woman by none other then Sledge, a fellow member of Cade's MC. When that woman is found dead, Sledge hires Lila to clear his name. Off we go on the search for justice. I love all the secondary characters Lopez includes in these books. From Lila's ex, to the various suspects they add such flavor keeping the listen fresh and interesting. The relationship between Cade and Lila is growing, the steam factor high and their love evident. The addition of puppy CB is sweet(love the name too), the twins adding humor and that touch of real life balance. And we can't forget the cupcakes! So many interesting flavors, I would love the recipes!
The narration by Ava Zilver is wonderful. She brings each character to life with a different voice and personality. It's my first listen by her and I will be looking for more!
I got an ARC of this book and here's my honest opinion of it.
First of all, I should mention that this is the second book in a series. I got the book without that knowledge and even though this book works alright as a standalone, I wish I was clued in on what happened in the first book. This book doesn't really explain much about what went on prior to it.
This book was a short and light read. The author usually cut to the chase when describing scenes, often not going into much detail. I'd say that the writing is middle-grade style. I did not really enjoy the read mainly due to that. I felt like too much detail was being left out while some unnecessary details were mentioned, details that did nothing to further develop the plot.
However, I did enjoy the adventure the main character went on to unravel the mystery. It was pretty much the only redeeming point of the book.
Absolutely Fun Read - You won't be Disappointed
I will admit that when I was choosing books to review for my blog, I had to signup for this book about cupcakes. I also purchased the 1st book & the audible to read/listen to before starting this book.
After everything blows up in the end of the 1st book, Lila and her girls are out for a much needed girl's night. It isn't until Lila meets Cade's MC family that she finds out that what they got involved with crosses over into Cade's life. This is where the story takes off & you get to see Lila in action and how Cade & her fair through this unexpected obstacle in their relationship. This book has lots of surprises and how Lila approaches everything that comes her way is nothing short of hysterical. I loved reading this book & I hope that Carmen will get her own story too.
I received a copy of this from netgalley for an honest review so here is my review.
When I first opened this book I was starting to get into a readers funk and this book broke me right out of it! I read it over night could not put it down. This is a great series that I can not wait to read the next one! I went and bought the first one too after I realized it was the second in the series.
Ok so this book is about a PI Lila and her boyfriend Cade and her solving a crime that is linked to Cade's motorcycle club. The story starts with Lila and her friends breaking up what they think is a sexual assault and the next day the girl they thought they saved is found dead. In true form Lila is asked to solve the case and she feels it is her duty to find out what happen to this girl. This is a perfect story that will make you laugh so hard that you can not put it down.
