The seer predicted a union of necessity. A marriage foreseen to save a man’s life and heal a woman’s soul.

Death by boredom is the only fate Duncan MacCoinnich fears. Years as a mercenary fed him the adventure he needed, but now the dull routines of his brother’s keep are starving him for excitement. So, he offers his services to the ruthless smuggling lord, the MacDonald of Skye and all is set—until the woman screams.

Independence and adventure are all Tilda Mackenzie wants, a tall order for the only child of the chieftain of Clan Mackenzie. Her duty is to marry and secure an alliance. But she’d rather work at her father’s side, helping him build their smuggling empire and outmaneuver the bloody MacDonalds. She’s fearless and canny and takes pride in bending her will to no man—until the day the soldiers decide she needs humbling.

Tilda’s rescue has Duncan headed for the gallows even though she claims him to be her husband to refute the accusations. Both of them wished for adventure. But adventures can weary a soul especially when deadly enemies appear in unexpected places. That’s when wishes change to prayers for nothing more than the safety and love found in each other’s arms.

Take care with what ye wish. And word such wishes wisely. For when ye receive what ye want, ye might discover it a curse instead.

Adventure, treachery, and romance abound in this second book of the Highland Heroes Series from bestselling author Maeve Greyson.

Action packed full of surprises, this is a Highland epic you will love.

I adored these characters. Both Tilda and Duncan stole my heart, the two had such strength and passion, it was great to read their story.

It had instances of a Highland adventure , then swiftly crossed to a jail break and onto a swashbuckling epic.
It just had everything you could ever ask for in a book.

It’s the perfect accompaniment to the first book and gives you a strong yearning for a third.

Great reading material and highly recommended.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Adventure, intrigue, excitement. That is exactly what Duncan craved and smuggling was his next stop. So different from being a warrior for hire and helping his brother as the new chieftain to the newly formed Clan MacCoinnich.
He was making his way to Inverness to learn the smuggling business when he heard a woman scream.
She was being attacked by British soldiers and Duncan, the braw warrior he was, saved her. But as fate would have it her name was Tilda MacKenzie and her father was the Laird Mackenzie! One he had been told to avoid due to being competition to his soon to be smuggling operation!
Tilda is so thankful for the strong man that saved her and only wants to repay him. That is when everything begins to get tense. Her father makes him a part of his clan, forever in his debt for saving his only daughter and the adventure begins!
Duncan definitely got his excitement and intrigue plus much more and as the two spend time together, there might just be a forever love!! Perfect!

This book is full of adventure, treachery, pirates, and romance in Maeve Greyson’s second book “The Warrior”. The characters are wonderful, full of independence, secrets and the plot are handled in just such a way you keep reading to discover what happens next. Duncan MacCoinnich is not a man that likes a boring life. Always wanting adventure in his life, he discovers more than he bargains for when he rescues Tilda Mackenzie from savage British Soldiers bent on raping her. Together Duncan and Tilda must find a way to keep the adventure they both seek from turning into a dangerous game that could cost either one of them their lives. I truly enjoyed this book and can not wait for Maeve’s next one to be published.

What a wonderful and fun story to read! When Duncan left home all he wanted was adventure and boy did he get it! When he saves Tilda from from British soldiers who intend to rape her, Duncan doesn’t realize who her father is. When Tilda father the Chief of clan Mackenzie makes him a member of the clan, Duncan has no choice but to accept, even if it puts a price on his head from the Macdonald clan. This is when the real adventure begins. I loved Tilda and Duncan, they were made for each other! I can’t say enough about how fun this story was. Definitely made me laugh and just when you think the adventure is over, nope another begins. Definitely recommend reading this book!

Duncan MacCoininch can't settle into the quiet life of his brother's new keep,  so he decides to search for adventure.  He's off to learn smuggling.  That's until he hears a woman scream.

Tilda MacKenzie is the only child of a powerful chieftain but that's not helping her now.

This is a very emotional story where our characters go from one danger to another.  Death is following in their wake.

We go from the highlands to the islands,  with fierce Highlanders and even fiercer pirates.

Very exciting action packed story.

As fate would have it bored Duncan MacCoinnich is searching for adventure and he ends up saving the life of Tilda Mackenzie after she was being brutally attacked by British Soldiers intent on raping her. Tilda is the only child of the chieftain of Clan Mackenzie who welcomes Duncan into his Clan and smuggling business. Tilda returns the favor when Duncan’s life is on the line and offer marriage that swiftly becomes a jail break, treachery, swashbuckling pirates, and adventure romance. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.

I love Duncan! He is such a fierce protector of innocent people. He was brought up to respect women. He is also looking for a change from being a mercenary to just having an adventure. Tilda MacKenzie is the daughter/son the chieftan always wanted. She is smart and beautiful. She also knows the family business just as well as her father. She was kidnapped and Duncan rescued her. Thus begins their adventure. There are people on the English and Scottish that want one or both of them dead. But fate has other plans. Wonderful book!

The Warrior

Fast paced, page turner. Duncan agreed to learn the smuggling trade from the MacDonald clan. However, on his way to meeting his contact he saved the life and virtue of Tilda MacKenzie, the chief's daughter. Now he is caught between the two warring factions and must leave Scotland to save his life.

Content Warning
Maeve Greyson’s Warrior in the Highland Heroes series definitely needs Content Warning. The warrior, Duncan MacCoinnich, starts out on an adventure because he is bored. He gets forced into marriage after saving Tilda from sexual assault, charged with murdering a British soldier, escapes from the gallows, stuck in the middle of a feud between 2 clans, involved in a shipwreck. Wife loses her foot, has a miscarriage. He loses an eye, ends up with a pirate patch. Duncan becomes a pirate to earn a living and changes his name to escape British law and the enemy clan.
Before all this most of the MacCoinnich clan perished from a morbid throat disease. The surviving brothers and cousins hired themselves out as mercenaries.
In the next book, The Judge, Duncan MacCoinnich makes an appearance, remarking he has had enough adventure to last a lifetime!
I have read Greyson novels before which involve nasty villains but not so much calamity as in the Warrior.

Many misfortunes

Duncan was in the right place to save Tilda life and maiden hood! He was in the wrong place to hook up with rival smugglers! Tilda was taken by 3 Englishman attempting to rape her after a fierce beating! This is one of many misfortunes with this couple! Duncan married her to save himself from the gallows for killing one of her tormentors. Duncan was drawn to Tilda but the daughter to a powerful smuggler and chieftan was too far above Duncan but the two were certainly made for each other. They would survive a shipwreck, a lost limb, a lost eyesight and a press gang even a miscarriage but can their love survive on the open seas with Duncan as a sea sick pirate? This book is mesmerizing! You will laugh, cry and cheer for adventure of several lifetimes and a love that won't die!

Age of Pirates⛵🐺💪🗡🔫
ADULT Highlander🏰 Romance💕 and Adventure🗡🔫
This takes place in the late seventeenth century when pirates🐺💪🗡🔫⛵ were active, especially in the west Indies. The story is about two Scottish clans who are pirates🐺💪🗡🔫⛵ but dislike each other.

I got this ebook from Amazon📚 with Kindle Unlimited.

The book was a good change of pace from many I have read but there was a place where the hero went out Two different times to check on his horse🐎 at the stable after receiving a message. Of course he was ambushed both times and of course he had no weapons both times. Fool me once....But fool.me twice?

Good.

Contains information some may consider spoiler.

This book flowed better than book one, but so many trials for the characters to face. I liked the book and it is worth reading, but in my opinion, I would have liked there to be more happiness and less separation and injuries. I enjoyed the characters. Duncan was a favourite from reading his brothers' books. Tulsa was that strong, loving heroine that you can't help but like. I must admit that I only enjoyed the epilogue to an extent. Duncan and Tilda belong in the Highlands.

Duncan had hair dark as sin...and the cover of this book displayed a blonde man?? Wrong cover.

I loved Duncan, he's fierce warrior and he's a hero to his wife and to me! He took care of her even before he was married to Tilda. Awesome man🥰

Dinna weep, my child, my fairest one.
Dinna weep o’er little or plentee.
Ye’re in my arms and in my heart.

I really loved this for the first half and although it turned into quite the adventure, for some reason I just started to find it rather dull and ended up speed reading the last quarter of the book. I also find it difficult and sort of exhausting (LOL) reading this series because the author writes the dialogue in a Scottish brogue so when you’re reading it you have no choice but to pronounce it all in a Scottish accent and it genuinely becomes tiresome. I wonder if anyone else who’s read these books knows what I mean lmao

Trouble Aplenty

A love story that keeps you guessing and wondering how much trouble a good deed can get you into. One problem arises after another but true love always finds away. Just when you think all is lost and no way can Tilda and Duncan ever be free to love again, the good overcomes evil.

A Fun Read That Will Keep You Guessing!

Once again, I have read another wonderful book by Maeve Greyson! With her believable characters you will become completely engrossed in the story. At times, actually forgetting that you aren’t a fly on the wall [in the story]. Not all writers of fiction have that ability but Maeve certainly does!

Derivative Romance

Rescuing a young woman from assault leads Duncan to an entirely different life than he had planned. Tilda, too, finds life different than she envisaged.
A Highland romance, which owes a lot to a more famous one.
It was mostly enjoyable, although anachronisms and mistakes about language (Irish words for clothing) spoiled it for me.

Adventure

From the first chapter this book is one adventure after another for the Hero and the heroin. What I enjoyed most was the trust they had for each other and the kindness Duncan showed Tilda.

Pirates murderous women and feuding Scottsmen

I just adore the adventure in this book and series. What a wild ride for Tilda and Duncan. Tilda is a tough and Firery lady. The women in the series are fantastic. The love story is a wonderful part but the action is amazing.

Hard nosed FMC and determined kind protective MMC. They experience continued hardship because of an unknown nemesis. You find out in the last third of the book who it is. HEA does occur.

I liked the story

It was a very good read except for one modern phase. I am a history and trivia buff, the author did a good job except for that.
