Lisa Harper is a hilarious storyteller and theological scholar―a gifted communicator whose writing and speaking overflows with colorful, pop-culture references that connect the dots between the Bible era and modern life. “Her God-given ability to not merely teach the Word but package it in a way that stirs the heart and calls to action is incomparable” says Priscilla Shirer. For six years Lisa served as the director of Focus on the Family's national women's ministry where she created the popular Renewing the Heart conferences. The next six years found her serving on the local level as the women's ministry director at a large church in Nashville. As the author of eleven books, and a Masters of Theological Studies with honors from Covenant Seminary, she is now a sought-after Bible teacher and speaker. Lisa was on the Women of Faith national arena tour and speaks at many other large events as well as at hundreds of churches all over the world. Lisa describes her greatest accomplishment to date as getting to be Missy’s mama.
I'm rating the Bible Study * unsure if this is the actual book or the study so wanted to mention that at the beginning. Pros - I just adore Lisa Harper. This study was my first time even hearing of her, and her video accompaniment was so enjoyable. She has a genuinely fun and caring soul, and I looked forward to hearing what she had to say. She did a great job taking one of the most forward books in the bible, and breaking it down in a way that is relevant to just about anyone. In my group of women, some of these verses were enough to turn faces red! But Lisa tackled it head on, lightened the tone and made it relatable - not just for young fiance's. Cons - the questions really jumped around. The video itself and initial questions were about Song of Songs, and some questions about the lessons from the women in the video which weren't always clear how they were connected to the passage, and then there was additional reading from other books of the bible to try to tie it all together. I enjoyed the study and I really enjoyed Lisa. But some parts were confusing, at least to me.
This look at Song of Solomon as a way that all Christians can relate to God is both intriguing and relatable. She uses real-world examples to showcase feelings everyone can understand, the newness of a relationship, the loss of zeal, dealing with those who would discredit your emotions. All in all, she makes it so anyone can understand the poetry of the Song of Solomon.
This says CD but only because it kept messing up when I tried to add the book itself.
The bible study was amazing. The study focused on the book of Solomon, and the love story was so beautiful. I would recommend this study for women in the later years. Makes you appreciate the love of your marriage.
