The Reaper #3

Drone Strike

Rate this book
On a classified mission to help the Israeli Defense Forces stop a Syrian and Hezbollah invasion to seize the Golan Heights, Ranger sniper Vick Harwood and his spotter go deep undercover. Operating with limited support from the American and Israeli governments, Vick is out on the edge.

Alessandra Cavezza, Director of Operations in Syria for the Italian UN Commission for Refugees, is moving families out of an embattled neighborhood. The nearly vacant suburb has been a haven for anti-Assad forces, ISIS militants, and Russian private military contractors. As she crawls into the basement of a home to help find a young girl's doll, she finds a secret room that has detailed descriptions of unthinkable attacks on the United States, and falls into the hands of a madman: Jasar Tankian, Lebanese mastermind behind the plots.

As Syrian tanks attempt to push through Israeli defenses at the border, Team Reaper picks off Syrian tank commanders as they battle Israeli tanks, jets, and infantrymen. Combat intensifies as Vick goes black on ammunition. Commandeering a cargo drone to deliver Team Reaper to a landing zone near the coordinates, Vick becomes Alessandra's--and America's--only hope for survival.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A fairly good sniper novel. Reads almost exactly like the Kyle Swanson book series, except in this case, the sniper is African American.

Pretty good, keeps things moving.

Once again the Reaper is in action and he has a new spotter... I think this is the best one yet and hope that Nicholas Irving and A.J. Tata will keep them coming. I must thank #Macmillan , #StMartinsPress and #Edelweiss for giving this ARC to me. Reaper : Drone strike is on the shelves in just a few days. Go get it. It's great.

I would have given this five stars because it is a wonderfully exciting book. And the ending was great, until the last page which has something happen that apparently will be resolved in the next book.

I found Reaper: Drone Strike to be good, but not great. It was fun and entertaining with a great action sequence at the end. However, I had a hard time engaging with the first 3/4 of the book. I'm not entirely sure why, but I felt like I was missing out on context and that things were jumping around a bit. I've read the other books in this series, so it wasn't that I felt out of the loop. Rather I just couldn't get into it as easily as I wanted. However, I was rewarded for sticking with it in the last 1/4 of the book, which really took off with intense action and a satisfying conclusion. Also, the characters were solid and I really liked Alessandra (I'm a sucker for strong female characters) and Clutch. So overall it's a good book, but not quite up to the level of the best in the genre.

Much better than the first 2 books with the story telling. Excited to see where it goes with the ending cliffhanger.

Brigadier General, U.S.A. (Ret.) A.J. Tata and Special Forces Sniper Nicholas Irving(The REAPER) use their combined battlefield and leadership experiences from countless years in the United States Army to provide highly contagious and unbelievably real storylines in the Vick Harwood series. The amount of time each has spend in hostile regions during war time have helped create authentic and heart wrenching storylines that keep you rooting for the good guy.

The continuation of the Vick Harwood series hits right off the start with shadow operations where members are not supposed to be where they are. In the real world, we'd like to think that this is how the military actually does things. The story hits you right in the feels later on while a member of a goodwill expedition finds something extremely stunning and potentially world changing in the field. This story also shows a lot on internal dialogue of Harwood, his vulnerable side, and the ability of him to work his way out of tricky situations!

The actions scenes are great due to the real life battles experienced and put into the hair raising situations these two have created. I gave this 4 stars and is a read you should definitely not miss.

Look for my full review on my book blog! I have a condensed w/o spoilers version (below) and an expanded version with minor spoilers (blog).

I had a great ride with this story. With intriguing villains and a kick-ass female character, this fast-paced book kept me reading! The characters and imagery were written nicely, and I even turned my opinion around about a certain character I disliked at first.

I went in thinking that there was going to be a lot of things I couldn’t understand, but the authors lay out and explain a lot of the machinery, equipment, and other terminology quite well. In the end, I was felt silly being worried in the first place.
A fast read. There is plenty of action to go around with multiple different characters. Harwood, Sassi, Tankian, and Max are the main characters and each of their POVs are written out very nicely; their ideologies, their way of thinking and strategizing, their background…

Enjoyable read and kept me well entertained for days! This book is the third book of the Reaper series and ends in a cliffhanger to be picked up on in the fourth book.

This sniper novel is an escape to a different world of war, terrorists, and danger.
Vick Harwood, known as Reaper, together with Clutch, are on a special mission supporting Israel soldiers in the invasion. Clutch gets wounded and kidnapped. Reaper, needs to find him.
Sassi Cavezza is working for the United Nations in Syria and recently she is helping refugees with resettlement. When helping a young girl to find her doll, she comes across a basement room with maps and diagrams. She takes two pictures, which disappear from her phone and cloud. Does this have something to do with the terrorist attack?
While looking for Clutch, Ranger rescues Sassi, who was captured and kept captive. Reaper, Clutch, and Sassi are fighting against enemy.

Nicely written book, with lots of action.
Happy reading.

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.I really wasn't sure if this is the type of book that I would like... but really I was pleasantly surprised.

There is a lot of military jargon here, but it ends up being explained pretty well, so I knew what was going on.

Harwood, the Reaper, is the hero here, and he is really a hero. He seems able to antipode everything and is able to do almost anything sets his mind to. I don't know enough about snipers or Army Rangers or really anything to be able to tell you if this is accurate or not.

Sassi, one of the characters with a viewpoint in the book, is the damsel in distress type, but actually seems able to save herself when the need arises. She bothered me the most of the characters though, because she made stupid decisions that got her into trouble in the first place. She also thought that because her mission was for the greater good nothing would happen to her... and that seemed a little childish of a viewpoint. Regardless, I think she grew on me a bit.

You get to see many different character perspectives in the book, which is something I like because it reads almost like watching a tv show.

There was enough action and drama in here that I did find the book difficult to out down in some instances. I ended up really enjoying it and may continue to read these! At least I know that I won't shy away from the genre anymore.

This novel is wider in scope than the previous Reaper novels. We learn a little more about Vick's childhood in the foster system and see where his need for justice comes from. The story starts building with points of view of the main characters and takes off when they come together. The plot is fast paced and the expanded scope of the story made it an enjoyable read. No spoiler details, but we know where the next volume starts. Can't wait for it, but have to be sniper patient til then.

Thanks to authors Nicholas Irving and A. J. Tata, as well as St. Martin's Press for the FREE ARC copy of Reaper - Drone Strike.

I liked it. 3.5 stars. Plenty of action and the story moved along at a brisk pace, keeping the entertainment and interest coming. I would say only that Reaper could be a little less super hero. Other than that, a good read. A little more editing and this book will be ready for its May release.

I received this book through Goodreads giveaway contest. All I can say is, if you you want an adrenaline rush, you need to read this book. Brigadier General, Mr. A. J. Tata, has been one of my favorite authors for a long time now. I usually don't write a review on his books, because all of his books are 5 star ratings to me. I will admit that I entered this contest because he is listed as a co-writer on this book. Author, Nicholas Irving, appears to be the main writer in the "Reaper" series, and all his books are as good as this one, then I have been missing out and need to read all of his prior books in the series.
The book is essentially about Ranger Vick Harwood, AKA the Reaper, and his spotter, Ian Nolte, AKA Clutch, on a Black Ops mission to help Israel prevent, or stop, an attack by Syrian or Hezbollah forces. During their mission, Clutch is captured and Harwood will stop at nothing to rescue him. In the midst of Harwood searching for his spotters location, he meets a United Nations, Refugee relocation employee, Alessandra Cavessa, who has discovered a terrorist map depicting an attack on the United States. So Harwood sets out to rescue his friend Clutch and stop a major attack on the United States.
This book contains so much more that is interwoven in it's story that it will keep you turning the pages for the final outcome. Nicholas Irving and A. J. Tata do a fantastic job in keeping the readers adrenaline flowing. I would highly recommend this book to whoever wants to read a non-stop action novel.

Not my genre, to be sure, but this is a thrill ride of an action novel that will appeal to- well, you know who you are! Vick Harwood, the sniper, must rescue both his spotter, Clutch, and Sassi, a beautiful UN worker who has information a possible terrorist attack. As implausible as some of this is, it's also so well done that you'll find yourself turning pages and holding your breath. The novel is completely plot driven and would make an excellent movie. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC. A fast read that would be a perfect airplane book if we were doing that but is fine for the couch during the pandemic.

Nicholas Irving's "Reaper Zone Strike" is an exciting adventure of a sniper and his spotter, which moves from the Near East to the United States. When the book ends, there is a twist for the start of the next book. If you like war stories, adventure novels, some mystery, you'll like this book.

Another fantastic outing by the Reaper, Nick again has the experience and knowledge to make the stories feel so real, and in my previous reviews I missed the writing partner Anthony. Like a sniper and a spotter these two make a great team.

Reaper Drone Strike is nonstop action with a few breaks in between to catch your breath. The authors do a great job translating Harwood’s world for civilian readers. Every paragraph feels like a sneak peek into the life of a real Ranger sniper. I was blown away by the technology and how Harwood used it especially during the action scenes. I enjoyed the connection between Sassi and Harwood. And that ending, though. Excited to see more of Monisha in the next one.

This book is nonstop action, just like the first two in the series. I definitely recommend these books to anyone and everyone who loves action or thrillers!

Army Ranger Vick Harwood sets out on his third adventure with a new spotter and a new mission. Shortly thereafter the action and adventure start and it just doesn’t stop. Harwood sets out on a rescue mission and stumbles into the middle of a terrorist attack making new friends along the way.

It’s the Reaper I’ve come to know and love back and maybe better than ever. I can’t wait for more in this series.

Another Great Story!

This is a really great series. In this third book in the series Vick Harwood aka “The Reaper” and his spotter are on the hunt in Syria when they stumble upon a plan to attack the continental United States with drones armed with weapons of mass destruction. An extremely enjoyable series! 😁

Compared to his last book, the transition from the different character perspective was spot on. Nicholas is getting better and smoother with his writing style. Action scenes seem more controlled and less Hollywood-esque. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
