London was on the hunt. Her intention was to kill.
London De La Motte is not a believer in religion or religiosity. She never found a use for it, considering her troubled past and no place for it in her life as a private investigator. An encounter with a statue in a historic Catholic Church sets London on a path of psychic vision and vigilante justice; righting injustices from the past and present. What she didn’t know is that her brush with Saint Cecilia’s graven image was far from accidental. It was destiny; conjured by Mama Bah, a voodoo high priestess some twenty-five years before. London’s world is rocked by this newfound giftedness. The question is, what will she do when the past and present come crashing down around her.
**If you are sensitive about race-related issues, this may not be the book for you. **This book does end in a cliffhanger. **This is the first book in the Tales of the Blackened Soul Series.

I might have to listen to this book again when the remaining audiobooks are released. This story is definitely interesting; however, at times I was a bit confused. So I reserve the right to come back a re-review and rate this story after the entire series is released.
Wow This was a good read that I truly enjoyed. The content kept me engaged as the flashback scenes helped make the present scenes understandable. Well written with a nicely flowing storyline, London was an interesting character as her gift helped her private investigative talents. This first book has me hooked and looking forward to reading the next part in this series
Title: Midnight: Tales of a Blackened Soul Author: Deidra D.S. Green Publisher: Rathsi Publishing, LLC Series: Tales of a Blackened Soul Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review:
"Midnight: Tales of a Blackened Soul" by Deidra D.S. Green
My Rationalization:
This story will keep your attention from the first chapter until the very end. Let me not leave out the Prelude because being a dark color I could only amaze those very same words being thrown out! Moving on...Life in New Orleans...with Mama Bah Twenty-five years ago...now who was she and what makes her so important in this story?
As you read from "Midnight" the story will go back and forth...from past to present so you will have to keep up!
We finally meet up with our heroine London De La Motte "who is on the hunt and her intention was to kill." Now, why was this?
I find London a very intriguing person in that she knew exactly what she was and wanted in her life. She wasn't a 'believer in religion or religiosity." And as a private investigation, she saw no place in her life for any of it. However, after a friend had died she goes to her funeral and there London will be set on a path of some "psychic visions and vigilante justice; to right injustices from the past and present." How will this historic Catholic Church with Saint Cecilia's given image" have to do with all of this? This is where this novel will gets even more interesting because we will now see what Mama Bah [a voodoo high priestess] had to do with all of this that had happened some 25 years ago as Nephtalie is brought into the story.
I love London's interaction with her boss [Butch] of Reynold's Investigations. From the visions how will London handle it from Michael Ames, Harrison Waites, and Diamond missing? Now, that London's boss has hired another investigator Lance Billups in the office how will London be able to handle things she needs to get done? Will she be able to trust Lance?
What will happen when London realizes more about the gift that had been given to her as she talks with Saint Cecilia and Sister Mina?
I am trying not to tell too much more so I will stop and just say you will have to pick up "Midnight: Tales of a Blackened Soul" to see how well this author delivers this story to the reader and then there is, even more, to come from this story due to this novel being a cliffhanger and the first in this series of 'Tales of the Blackened Soul.' Up next we will get even more of London's story and the introduction of Sable. Yes, I would recommend this read.
Darkness is safety and serenity. Darkness is home. (My favorite quote from this book)
This book was 💣 Ms. Deidra D.S. Green has brought a 💫💫💫💫💫 London’s is a Private Investigator that’s witty and a true G! 😂 She’s not gonna let NOBODY “punk” her!!! She’s been working for a man named Butch, since she graduated high school. Shortly after a very dear friend’s funeral, London begins to start having Psychic visions. These visions will aid her into helping her with solving her caseloads. This story will keep you on the edge, page after page. The characters introduced are very interesting, charming and believable. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel. This series is surely to be a banger. Don’t miss it.
This story was so good! I loved London as the strong heroine and the paranormal aspects of her abilities was right up my alley. The storyline seriously hooked me in quickly and I can’t wait to read book 2. I would have given this book 5 stars if it weren’t for the grammar errors! For example, there were a number of places where he was used instead of she, food instead of foot, mother instead of mouth, heirs instead of airs, etc. I think if the author gets a good editor and re-releases this book, it will be kick-ass and award worthy. The errors weren’t enough to make me not finish the book or even to not download book 2 but they are there and there were enough of them that it kept stopping the movie in my head as I was reading. So, if grammar errors bug you enough that you can’t finish a book, this story probably isn’t the one for you. They usually bug the crap out of me but this story was so intriguing that it hooked me in in spite of the errors. All in all, I would recommend this book to read but if the author gets a good editor? I would recommend this book for an award.
I really liked this story. I enjoyed London’s journey of coming into her gifts and also the breaks in between sharing her origin and the vivid details about her visions and what’s driving her new purpose. I’m interested to read the next books in the series because I want to know what’s in store and what London will end up getting involved in as well as the other characters in the book. There are a lot of typos, however, but if you can get around them, this book is a great escape.
I can appreciate a good vigilante tale. London isn’t a perfect person, but her intentions are pure. I’m interested in seeing how her life will unfold. I’m really interested in finding out how she ended up in the foster system and if Lance will become her love interest. Overall, it’s a decent story. Also, what’s the sister Mina? Like, is she hiding some thing? Is she more important to London’s life and when will we actually know or is she just like a filler character?
Once I started the book, I wasn’t sure if I would finish it or not. But it became interesting and confusing at the same time. I think that the flashbacks into time caused a little confusion for me. It was well written and I’m curious about the other books in this series.
Loved that black womens experiences were discussed. A lot of misuse of words, wrong tense or just wrong words.
I literally gasped when that clients truth was revealed. Very interesting. Can’t wait to read what happens next and how the author will tie it all together.
This was a somewhat interesting read. I like the fact that I could resonate with multiple issues that were addressed in this book. I will read this author’s second series. The Prelude has piqued my interesting.
I couldn't get into this book by author Deidra D.S. Green because of the voodoo, high priestess scenario. The storyline jumped from present day to the past lives with enslaved people and the slave holders. Not for moi!
Idk how to feel about this.. it had a strong start and I liked the book… but at the same time it was a little underwhelming… like the title and the cover was better than the actual book… but imma finish the series because I’m invested and want to see where it’s going.
I fully enjoyed this book. Starting book 2 now. As a former teacher there were a few grammatical errors misspelled and missing words. I know this was not you me Green, I just had to say this. As I stated earlier I fully enjoyed this book. Thank you.
I enjoyed this story! London’s powers are a unique gift I don’t read about often in the urban supernatural genre. I look forward to the next installment!
