This report is the culmination of the first year and a half of work by the CSIS Initiative for a Renewed Transatlantic Partnership to produce a series of practical policy recommendations, presenting the best opportunities for joint action between the United States and Europe, to rebuild the Atlantic Alliance. Six specific recommendations for joint action are Preventing Iran s acquisition of a nuclear weapons capability; Securing Ukraine s democratic future; Controlling WMD strengthening the Global Partnership; Common transatlantic approaches to fight international terrorism; The United States and the EU in the global long-term challenges and near-term steps; Achieving an effective global military capability for the the need for European defense integration. In each case, the report examines four Do we have common or, at least, compatible perspectives? Can we agree on the appropriate strategies? Does each side bring capabilities to the table for joint action? What are the prospects for joint action and what will be the division of responsibilities?
