Law student Gina Banks knows that getting in bed—literally—with billionaire Austin Long is just plain trouble. Sure, she’s taken a few risks to try to stop the expansion of Skipjack Bay. And yes, okay, the first time she met with Austin to plead her case, she’d technically been trespassing.
But this? His bed, his rules, his massive, let’s just say confidence. Not to mention his uncanny ability to make her come... completely undone. It’s all beyond crazy. Still, the chance to help the families in her hometown is something she can’t turn down. So, she agrees to his terms.
Total surrender. Hers. To him. A simple business deal where they both get what they want.
The absolute last thing Gina expects is for Austin to want her to surrender her heart to him, too.
Previously published as Black Gold 1 & 2, (c) 2012 & (c) 2014 revised throughout with newly added content and an extended ending.
Story Note: This steamy standalone includes cameos by a few characters from Tempted Beyond Reason (formerly titled Waking Up Her Curves, which has similarly been republished with revisions and new content), but not to worry, both stories are completely independent from each other.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
My introduction to Christa Wick consisted of a scorching attraction. Gina and Austin are determined to break every rule. Tempted by Trouble takes a look at love through lustful eyes. The magic of falling in love with all the drama of making it last. Driven by heat and haunted by heartache, Tempted by Trouble blasts it's way into the senses.
I usually love Christa Wick Books. I enjoy a good BBW story but for some reason this book did not appeal to me. The book was ok and the characters were decent but I just wasn't able to get into them the way I normally do. Gina and Austin didn't captivate me and I struggled to understand how their relationship endured. All in all I think it was me. Maybe I just wasn't ready for this book. I'll give it three stars because while I enjoyed it I just didn't connect to it.
THIS is how you do erotica well. A real plot, good characterization, believable antagonism/sexual tension, between a tough heroine who had carved her way out of a modest background, and a hero who is dominant, sexually demanding, controlling. The kink, with some BDSM is well done. The emotional conflict is realistic. You get great alternative points of view, though l would have preferred more of the hero's thoughts. A scorcher!
A steamy romance where both the main characters get far more than they bargained for! I enjoy this author’s writing style and this book didn’t disappoint me.

Great story-line, interesting characters...overall wonderful read. The push and pull between Gina and Austin was enough to give you whiplash. My only issue was that I would have liked to have Austin's POV.

Tempted by Trouble has Gina Banks almost lawyer trying to save her town from an oil company owned by Austin Longs family. They have an incredible attraction and Austin works at getting Gina to submit to him but can’t get her out of his system. What starts as a wager ends up being a lot more! Gina is introduced to the world of BDSM. This is the type of story that takes a bit of work to get through. Sometimes the plot appeared to waver and Austin kept running away without any discussion rather frustrating but stick with it by the end it comes together.
This was a quick and dirty read. I was unfamiliar with the author, but I will definitely check out some of her other titles. I enjoyed the evolution of the romance between Gina and Austin, and there was no shortage of intense passion. If you are looking for a well written, quick and steamy read, here it is.
I have no idea what either character found attractive in the other. They barely even spoke to one another. If this were my first exposure to this author, I would run and not look back.
I liked this book. It offers up lots of hot steam with a side order of kink. The chemistry and attraction between Gina and Austin was very sultry and intense. The entertaining story line has enough drama, tension, twists and emotional turmoil to keep you focused and flipping pages. There were a couple things that annoyed me though. The biggest was the lack of a strong, trusting relationship when the BDSM elements started to come into play. I know this is basically a quick read book, However, I feel that this is an important issue for me when you are going to add this type of lifestyle to your book. Trust and knowing your partner are essential and in my opinion this couple was nowhere near that. Second, this is book four in this series but features the couple from book one in this series prior to them getting together in that book. As this is a standalone read, you can easily read this book before that one but if you are unaware it can be annoying when you realize this fact. I am posting of my own accord a candid review.
Excellent story. It was previous released in two parts, and I didn't get the second part. I'm so glad I can have them both together in one book. Our heroine is a feisty law student who is fighting a big company to protect the environment. She meets the hero when she sneaks into what she thinks is a regular party, but turns out to be something else. I really loved getting to know our heroine from the inside out and her character is very attractive and well developed. Christa Wick writes sex/love scenes very well. This book has a bit of BDSM aspect, especially in the second part. In fact, the longest BDSM scene is really neat, written from the point of view of a blindfolded and restrained heroine who is experiencing it for the first time, and not knowing exactly what is happening to her. So many writers of this kind of scene get very mechanical with descriptions of devices and Christa Wick makes it very erotic with her descriptions of the feelings and sensations the experience causes.
I was feeling all kinds of things about this story. Parts of it I liked and took it strictly as a romance story but as a black woman some of it made be uncomfortable. The audience watching people engage in kinky sexual acts was unnecessary and more importantly Austin a white man flogging Gina a black woman didn't sit well with me. I don't speak for all black people but I guarantee you the majority will go where my mind went. Oh hell no that @$@$!? is to much like slavery beating. WHAAAT THE HELL. She allowed him to hit her with a flogger because he told her that she was beautiful and she was horny. After that I lost all desire to finish this book. There isn't a black woman I know that's going to allow any man do that to her just so she can get off. I'm disappointed. I finish this book but honestly it lost me after the frogging nonsense. I really thought that it was going to be my favorite in the series.
This book is listed as the fourth in the series, yet its events occur before those of the first book, Wake and Lacey's romance. These are the only two of the four in this series that have crossover characters, so if you're able to, you'll enjoy reading this one first.
Gina has very personal reasons for demanding an audience with Austin, which only gives Austin the opportunity to pursue an intense romance with her. There are layers of power exchange in this story, substantial BDSM scenes, and a level of intelligence - both in its characters and in the writing - that is rare in romance novellas.
Gina was easy to identify with, and Austin was very easy to fall in love with. I really enjoyed this story and the epilogue was a beautiful bonus. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is book 4 in the series but actually goes back to before Wake and Lacey met in book 1 therefore this book could've been better placed in the series. Obviously being Laceys cousin we've seen glimpses of Austin in her book and I thought i'd learn a bit more about him in this book but aside from his work life and sexual preferences you don't get that much of an insight into Austin until the epilogue where u get more of a sense of his softer family side. Gina is just finishing her law degree and fighting to protect the land shes been brought up on from being destroyed by Austins oil company, she is fiesty and will do whatever it takes to protect her home and the people who live there including giving herself to Austin whom she has an immediate attraction to. A fast paced, quick read, hot domineering sex scenes and a make you smile epilogue overall a good read.
Another great read and this time focusing on Austin, a billionaire and Gina, a law student who is trying to get Austin’s attention and his current practices of his company. Austin knows who she is and when Gina sneaks into his private party, she discovers who Austin really is and finds out, she can’t deny him. When she starts working for Austin, things heat up between them...but can it last. A great read with plenty of steam and some BDSM and two characters who have sparks. I enjoyed these two but would have liked a bit more background on Austin, he was still a mystery and I would have liked to have known why he acted like he did at certain times, such as in Miami and if he was with another woman, not his cousin. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
I have read other novels by Christa Wick, and this one was by far the hardest to follow the storyline or even what was actually happening in the plot and with the characters. I found myself constantly paging back to re-read the previous section to see if I had missed something. I really didn't sense the connection between the two main characters - Austin & Gina as it was supposed to be some sort of insta-connection. However, without Austin's point of view thrown to explain his actions, I just thought he was using Gina as she thought. The last couple of chapters which worked to change this, were just confusing and I was left with an abrupt ending.
Austin and Gina’s story was slightly longer and more detail oriented than other books in the series and I really enjoyed it for that reason. I found Austin difficult to figure out. He ran hot and cold; although I knew that he loved Gina, it just wasn’t clear. Their connection was intense especially physically but the story missed out on some of the deeper elements in a successful relationship. Thankfully, the epilogue cleared up everything and I ended up liking it.

The story of Gina and Austin is steamy with some light bdsm, not much but if that is not something you want to read at all then this book is not for you. I enjoyed the love story and the bdsm was light enough to add to the story instead of making it all about it. Would have enjoyed sine deeper caracter profiles of the two main caracters, but there were just enough.

This was another quick steamy read from this author! Gina is a law student and Austin is the CEO of an energy company that she wants to hold accountable for their environmental impact on the area she lives in. The two clash to say the least. Austin is a little over the top in his demanding ways but Gina matches him step by step. The two are explosive together!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Hot! ❤️
I had a bit of a hard time with this one. The author is vague in places and definitely undersell the relationship between the two. I was often left as confused as the heroine as to the heros intentions and actions. Have zero of his perspective was difficult for me to read I definitely prefer a dual perspective narrative but it's still well written, no typos or grammatical errors, no name mix ups etc.
Well done! I admire the drive, the goals spunky Gina has set for herself. Austin, the difficult and unapproachable billionaire has some unorthodox requirements for Gina to reach those goals. Can she do this? This book does contain some darker elements, but the author relates them with discretion. The fascination these two have with each other is soon apparent. I love the sense of humor, and the depth of love they eventually discover. The ending is very satisfying!
We finally get Austin’s story! What a story it was! Austin offered Gina one night with him for what she wanted and boy she gets so much more! I really enjoyed this book so much! It was a hot, sexy read! I loved Austin and Gina! They were perfect together! Tempted by Trouble is a fantastic romance you should read and you’ll love it too!
Yet another great read by Christa Wick. This time we meet Austin billionaire bad boy hot as sin and kinky as hell. Gina determined, passionate and career oriented. Austin’s taste are particular but he knows the minute he meets Gina that she’s it for him. What happens next is a dirty cat and mouse game till they both surrender and fall into their own personal HEA.
Gina is worried about the environmental impacts is Austin’s oil company comes to her area, so finds a way to meet with him to discuss the issues. Sparks fly and Austin offers her a job in exchange for a night of submission to him. Will one night be enough? Fast-paced read with great characters and lots of steam. The chemistry between Gina and Austin is off the charts hot. I liked it.
This book was Very different than the other Christa books. It still has an alpha, a strong h/h relationship, but it has an erotic submission focus. I liked it, but even knowing it was Erotic I was a bit surprised. I chose not to read the reviews going into to it. If you like this type of focus you will love it. It was good book for me, but not as great as some of her other books.
Gina is absolutely tempted by trouble and his name is Austin! Austin trades her one night for what she wants, but they get so much more. Really enjoyed this super hot and sexy read.
Gina is just trying to protect her community and land. Austin is the man she needs on her side. When she realizes what he wants from her will she be willing? Hot sexy and some bdsm
