This series has been great. Each story has been very enjoyable and this one is no different. I liked the characters, the world building and the story lines. It was great to see some of the characters from previous books show back up. While you don't have to read the whole series to enjoy Let Her Rest, it does make it a little bit better. I was very intrigued by what we find out at the end of this one. I hope that is the subject of the next book.
I would like to thank J.R. Erickson for the ARC copy and the opportunity to read this book early. I love this series and look forward to the next book.

( Format : Audiobook )
" Hello darkness my old friend."
Book 7 in the stand alone series based around the Northern Michigan Asylum for the Insane, and, like the earlier books, atmospheric, unexpected and with good characterization.
Jake Edwards is a pretty ordinary guy with commitment issues. Already in his late 40s, he runs his own excavation business, employing several men and Barbie, his 50 something motherly secretary receptionist. On the first anniversary of his most recent relationship, an unknown woman comes to his office, introducing herself as Petra and asking if he remembers her. He doesn't, and is shocked when she tells him that they were close childhood friends whilst resident at the Northern Mitchigan Asylum as he has absolutely no memory of ever having been there. He suspects that someone is playing a prank on him - until Petra's apartment is found awash with blood, and she had disappeared. Under possible suspicion of murder, Jake investigates. Meanwhile, a second story runs alongside that of Jake's forgotten past, the two coming together later in the book.

Alan Carlson, who narrated, gives a fine lerformance, his reading clear, well modulated but unintrusive, without over emphasis, letting the reader fill in the emotional content of the text. His background approach somehow emphasises and makes all the more dramatic what is written. He also gives individual voice to each character.
From the domestic normalcy of the opening to the violent finale, this book maintained my interest and involvement. Well written and expertly read, this was a most enjoyable book. My thanks to the rights holder of Let Her Rest, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Recommended even to all who enjoy murder mysteries even those who are usually somewhat wary of the inclusion of the paranormal, this book has a fine, chi!long presence throughout combined with a normality which firmly grips the reader's attention and immagination. as one of the characters comments, "More complex than an Agatha Christie novel".
Good writing and fine narrating.
Recommended.

LET HER REST is a psychological roller coaster filled with dark, repressed memories, mystery, ghosts and haunting. I've read most of J.R. Erickson's Northern Michigan Asylum books and this one is a page tuner. I didn't want to stop reading! This was an ARC copy.
Jake is now a successful excavating business owner who was adopted by a couple after he runs away from the asylum. His mother committed him (about age 10) after he sees dead people which is not 'from God.' There is no love in his biological home.
Meanwhile, a newly divorced nurse, Charlie, buys Wilder's Grove beautiful Victorian mansion for a suspiciously low price that she can afford. This was Jake's former home but it is too big for just him and he doesn't want to be tied down in marriage. The former owners had done restoration and remodeling and even left antique furniture. This seems puzzling to Charlie --she thinks it's her good fortune, since she had few belongings from her former home.
Then strange things happen - the neighbors and children are afraid of her, things move where she hadn't placed them, and she feels a hostile presence.
Don't read this with the lights out!

As with each book in this series, this story was amazing.

Jack and Charlie are really good characters, and I really enjoyed the way in which their stories get intertwined. And having back some of the characters from the previous books was a wonderful bonus.

As always, the story is full of tension and very, very intriguing. While we are learning about Jack's childhood and which was his relationship with Petra we also are trying to learn what happened to her and what happened to them both in the Northern Asylum.

Charlie, on the other hand, is trying to learn about her new house and the spirits that haunted it, but that isn't without danger.

A real page-turner, wonderfully narrated by Alan Carlson, fully recommended.

Each book in this series is a great stand alone novel but The Northern Michigan Asylum for the Insane is a pivotal theme. While each can be read on its own, reading the whole series definitely enriches the experience. Read one and you will be hooked!

Jake owns and works at a construction company, one he inherited from his adoptive parents. His business is thriving, his personal life, not so much. Jake’s failure to commit has ended every relationship. Still he is pretty content. Until he gets an early morning visit from a mystery woman, Petra.

Petra tells Jake they knew each other as children. Something he has no memory of. In fact, before he came to live with his new parents, Jake’s childhood is a blank. He sends her on her way. When he reconsiders speaking with her that evening, her neighbor answers. Petra’s place is covered in blood and she is missing. Soon the suspicion will land on Jake!

Charlie just moved to a new town. She needed a fresh start after her divorce and found a wonderful deal on a large Victorian, Wilder’s Grove. From the first day, Charlie begins seeing a womanly apparition in the house. Was the house really a bargain or something more sinister?

What do Jake, Petra and Charlie have in common? Grab Let Her Rest and find out.

Well the she pulled it off again another great fantastic book read. I received this book as an arc copy. World building was definitely absolutely incredible as was the character development which was incredible as well. Storyline and plot line were both well developed as well. The story follows a man who is trying to solve the mystery and murder of an individual he knew when they were children, and to remember his childhood. The twists and turns the plot takes is totally amazing, and you do not know from one page to another what you are going to stumble onto. This book is a midnight oil burner and page-turner that you cannot put down until you have reached the very end. I highly recommend this book for people who enjoy solving murder mysteries, and love fast action packed plots. I love this series and wish there could be more books coming out, but there is one last book that will be coming out and that will be the end. So sad for for those of us that love this particular author and her writing technique, but there are other books that you may have missed or just go back to the books you have and reread.

Jake owns an Dig Deep Excavating in Frankenmuth, MI. A woman comes to his office and says she knew him as a child in the Northern Michigan Asylum, but he doesn't recognize her and he was never in the asylum. Was he? His early childhood memories have all been lost. He remembers nothing before being adopted. The next day this woman disappears, her house covered in blood. Her hypnotherapist contacts Jake and helps him begin to remember some of his past as he searches for answers about the woman. Charlie is a divorcee who moved to Frankenmuth and bought an old Victorian house she soon begins to think is haunted. How is all this connected to an an old asylum almost 3 hours north? As usual this is a page turner with a great, detailed plot and great characters you feel like you know. All of the books in this series can be read as stand-alones but this one refers to some characters from a previous book. You don't necessarily need to have read it but you will remember them. The more I read of this series, the more I enjoy them. This is the best yet. Thanks to the author for giving me a copy to read early. I can't wait to read the next one but it will be the end of the series.

Loved it! It starts with a couple of parallel stories that come together later in the book. Jake is a grown man, working but bad with relationships. He is visited by Petra who says she knew him from the Northern Michigan Asylum when they were kids. Jake has no recollection of this at all and brushes it off. Then Petra goes missing and blood is all over her apartment. Jake is brought into it as her shirt appears on his desk at work. He has to pursue it to find out what happened as the police suspect him. Second story line is Charlie (female) who moved into a house that appears to be haunted. The story lines come together as that is the house that Jake grew up in. Together they have to figure it out. There are some surprising twists along the way and a great ending. Great story!

I received a free copy for an honest review.

Let Her Rest, the latest installment in J.R. Erickson’s Northern Michigan Asylum books is another great paranormal thriller. As the past intertwines with the present, Jake will find that his amnesia was hiding the horrors of his youth in the institution and what led to his escape. Meanwhile Charlie is now living in Wilder’s Grove, the house where Jake escaped and found safe haven – the haunted house. Someone from Jake’s past has been murdered and he is being framed. Jake will have to unlock his history if he is to free himself and Charlie from the madman of his past. An incredible eerie series. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Let Her Rest is the 7th installment in JR Erickson's fantastic Northern Michigan Asylum collection. Each book can be read as a standalone, while every novel has an underlying theme of the Northern Michigan Asylum. The more you read the more background material you absorb for future books. This story was no exception. A wonderful ghost story/murder mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat and burning the midnight oil until you are finished. With the fantastic storyline and wonderful characters it is definitely a win. I can't wait to see what the next, and unfortunately last, book will be.

Another Winner!

I'm a fan of Ms. Erickson, and this book doesn't disappoint. I wish I would have taken notes of the other books, because some of the characters and story lines over lap.
This is also a haunted house story. A young lady, Charlie, buys the house after her divorce, and lots of weird, creepy things happen there. The other main character, Jake, is embroiled in a murder, but is drawn back to the haunted house where he used to live. Jake and Charlie are drawn together as he tries to prove his innocence .
A great tale. I'm sad that I read this whole series, but happy to start the next one by J. R. Erickson.

This book is captivatingly eerie!! Once you start reading it you can’t put it down. It grabs you from the beginning and just has this pull on you to finish. You just gotta know what happens. Jake owns his own business and doesn’t remember much of his childhood up to the age of 10. Then one day a mysterious woman named Petra shows up and says they knew each other while at the asylum. Charlie is a divorced woman starting over who buys a wonderful house. What she doesn’t know is that it’s haunted....

I received this as an ARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.

How is J.R. Erickson so good at keeping me reading? I devoured this book in two days, which for me, a fast reader, isn't that hard.

Jake Edwards is pulled into a strange world after meeting Petra, a woman who lets him know that he was at the Northern Michigan Asylum in his youth. He has no memory of this, and not long after meeting her again, Petra ends up dead. It's up to Edwards, and his new friend, Charlie to find the killer.

It's so good! I really can't praise this author enough.

I enjoyed this book.

The story is interesting, and it’s nice to finally know what happened to Maribel. Jake was just the wrong person with the right gift in the wrong place at the right times. Two times actually, as a child and as an adult. The split POV was nice. The characters were unique. My main problem was the ending. It just felt too rushed.

I only have one more JR Erickson paranormal book to read. To be honest, I’m sad I’m running out of material. That’s always a good sign.

JR Erickson just keeps getting these books better and better. Let her rest is a great addition to this wonderful series. You can kind of see some of what is coming from reading the other books but again you will be caught somewhat out-of-step as the twists at the end will keep you on your toes. I will be sorry to see this series wrap up after the next book.

Good

It was a good read, but I gave it a 4 because the story was at times was all over and would have been better if Charlie was more involved like as being in Jake's past or something instead of her random story thrown in. But I still consider it a good read because I love mystery, crime, fantasy books.

Wow! I’ve loved every book in the series but this one is my favorite! It starts off action packed and keeps it coming all the way to the end. I loved Jake and Charlie and I loved seeing so many of the other characters from the series. It’s all coming to a head and I can’t wait to hopefully see the full story of the asylum unfold in the last book! On to the next!!
