Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet! Which color is your favorite?
Introduce your child to the colors of the rainbow with this bright, layered board book. Humorous, rhyming text, and bold illustrations introduce each of the seven rainbow colors in turn. Curved and layered "touch-and-feel" board pages increase in size as you move through the book, developing your child's hand-eye coordination as they turn the pages. The final spread shows a "rainbow" of children from all around the world, reinforcing a positive message of diversity and inclusivity. Open the rainbow pages, read the rhyming text together, and spot the objects in each and every color.
4★ “Red is my favorite color. What red things can you see? A ladybug, a flower, and a juicy strawberry!”
This is a beginning beginners book of the basic seven colors of the rainbow, the ROY G BIV colors, as many people remember them in the order they appear when we spot a rainbow in the sky.
They appear in this book in that order as well, although there’s nothing to indicate that to the adult or older child who may read this with a little one. YELLOW
There are more yellow things in this picture than are mentioned in the rhyme, which gives the adult or older child something to encourage the little one to find. If you can’t see the words well enough, here’s the rhyme:
“Yellow is my favorite color. It’s a happy, sunny shade. It’s ripe bananas, rubber ducks, And delicious lemonade.”
The rhymes are simple, a couple could certainly be better, but they get the job done. The one for indigo was a little tricky since it said it could be for very dark jeans, but the jeans in the picture are bright blue. I’m nit-picking.
Green is a nice one. GREEN
Each page has a part arc of the rainbow and the last page has them all in order.
“These different colors make the world bright. UNDER THIS RAINBOW WE ALL UNITE!”
Cute and bright. Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto’s words&pictures for the preview copy.
This is a cute, rhyming picture book about the ROYGBIV colours. I read a digital ARC, so I'm sure I didn't get the full effect; the board book has layered, curved pages that get bigger as the book goes on, so the reader would be unpacking a rainbow while turning the pages.
The rhyming text is surprisingly solid. Each spread is filled with objects of a particular colour, some of which are tied to the text, so there's plenty to look at and search out.
If I have one complaint, it's on the last page. There are a bunch of kids depicted, each dressed in a different colour (except indigo, for some reason). The accompanying text lists the colours. I would've preferred it if the kids had been lined up in the order of the rainbow, since it would've reinforced the names of the colours.
This is likely to be a well-received board book. It's fun to look at, the rhymes don't grate on the nerves, and a sweet spirit of inclusivity makes for a nice ending. I'd definitely recommend taking a look at this one if you're searching for books (especially board books) about colours.
Thank you to NetGalley and words & pictures for providing a digital ARC.
This is a cute and simple introduction to ROYGBIV colors for toddlers and young preschoolers. It’s just the right length for their attention spans. Multiple readings will help them learn their primary colors through repetition.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is a beautifully bright board book for children that is engaging and eye catching with lots of things to find on the pages. A simple yet adorable book for young children to teach them about colours of the rainbow in a rhyming format. A really cute book little ones will love.
I will say that it’s a little bit of a struggle for my daughter to accept the indigo and violet colors. Nearly every other toy she’s had was always just purple. I wish more toys and books were like this one – the “scientific” colors and it accomplishes it without coming confusion. Each color has a host of items that correspond with the rainbow color as well as a child stating that it’s their favorite color. That aspect may be a little confusing for kids as each page starts with “blank is my favorite color”. This book isn’t a true “touch and feel” type book, the only the fact that the pages are layered gives it any definition.
There’s a lot to love in this little book – the illustrations are charming and colorful, the children featured are diverse, it’s not just a square, the pages are layered and the writing rhymes. It’s the little things that just give books a little extra. I would highly recommend this book to introduce your littles to colors! Thank you to Amazon Vine for the opportunity for my daughter and me to enjoy this book – all opinions are my own.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for providing me a copy of this book.
This is a cute little book filled with colors and rhymes. Each page is a different color of the rainbow and all the things of that color we can find around us.
The thing I liked the most about this delightful little book was the diversity included in it. It was inclusive in a very natural way. I’ll definitely be introducing it to my son soon.
The illustrations are cute and the rhymes catchy. Overall a cute book for kids that they’ll definitely enjoy reading.
This is such a beautiful and fun book. Each set of pages is assigned one color of the rainbow. Illustrations in that color as well as reasons why they are loved. A really fun book to read with my son.
This was a wonderful children’s book! Each page focuses on a single color of the rainbow and gives us brilliant pictures, fruitful examples of the color, and fun items often associated with the colors. I think this is a wonderful book for children! The illustrations were really pleasing to look at and the story itself was fun to follow along and easy to read. This would make a great addition to a children’s library and would be a great learning companion for young children learning their colors. I would definitely recommend this book to family and friends.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
This book is visually spectacular, rainbow tabs with each page dedicated to one of the ROYGBIV colours. The text is full of delightful rhyme, there is a lot to explore and discuss on each page, and the illustrated characters feature a diverse range of appearances and abilities.
Rainbow colors is the perfect board book to teach babies and toddlers about colors. I love that each page mentions items that you can find, along with many more color themed items to create discussion with the child. I also love the diversity included on the final page.
I purchased this book for my grandchildren. It does a neat job using color with rhyme and items to look for in the illustrations on each page. It is interesting as it teaches the actual colors of the rainbow. The end has a nice message - we are all under the same rainbow.
Beautiful and cute! I have enjoyed Juliana Perdomos illustrations in the past and this is no exception. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Quarto for my digital review copy.
A sweet board book about colors (the ROY G BIV colors). I like how each page get bigger to build the rainbow when the book is closed. Very cute design. There is also a nice message of inclusion.
A simple book about colors that rhymes and has patterns. Its fun to read and to say. The illustrations are great and approachable. All in all this is a great board book.
A lovely book on the colours of the rainbow. Each double page is given over to the colour. Examples of the colour are given in the lovely pictures. The beauty of this book means more can be learned than just reading the book. The reader and child can ask lots of questions and pass quite a bit of time.
I read this book with my three year old daughter and she loved it!
It was fun for her to get involved in a book like this and she is very much a mini bookworm and interested in ones where she can learn and get involved are her favourite and this was a massive hit with her.
I liked that it was educational as a mum and it was easy for us to read together, and with the big question I asked - do you want to read that one again, straight away it was yes please! So a winner from the target age range right there!
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
Rainbow Colors is a cute little board book ideal for reading aloud with toddlers. It teaches the colors of the rainbow with easy, bouncy rhymes and bright, expressive illustrations. Definitely recommend this one for story time with the little ones, who will enjoy identifying items in each color's two-page spread!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review! This is a really cute picturebook about each colour of the rainbow! I really liked how it manages to capture the vibe of each colour!
This is an adorable book on colors for the youngest children. The illustrations are vibrant, colorful and sweet. The rhyming text will appeal to toddlers who can also look for objects in each two page spread.
Share the world of color with someone you know. You will both enjoy this title.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Nice board book for children ages 1-5. The rounded edges with colored rainbow rings is appealing to the eye, as are the bold illustrations. There is no way that any child can miss what color is being promoted on each page and objects should be familiar to many in the target age-group and will allow for practice identifying everyday items. Those older in the age group will find ample opportunity to talk about what is happening on the detailed pages. At first, I was puzzled why blue and indigo were set apart on two different pages, but then snapped to the ol' ROY G BIV acronym used with my fifth graders to learn the order of colors in a rainbow!
